Just to make clear everyone do not try this with LOCKED BOOTLOADER as it will not work.
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Premium HD app
will this work?
Im on .77 locked bootloader. Can i just unlock my bootloader and restore your backup? Should i now have lollipop and with root and recovery and working xposed?

Haven't looked in unlocking my bootloader much since I already have root/TWRP/KK but with having working recovery and Lollipop looking iffy at best staying locked I think it's time to unlock.
Does unlocking the bootloader wipe the device? If so at that point do I need to go through the steps to root KK again?
I have my TA backed up already so that's done. So once unlocked I can boot into TWRP restore this backup and be rooted/LP/working TWRP, then need to restore the TA backup which will lock the bootloader again if I'm correct?

no dont nedeed TA bacup than restore...before unlock bootloader one time bacup TA and when you want locked bootloader install your TA backup..
Teșekkurler @gursoft41 for the effort. Your ROM was the first one that didn't give me the headache with the home button making my screen black, BUT on this one the back camera is not working. I restored it twice, and the second time the first thing that I've tried was the camera, but there is no preview on the back camera. The rest of the interface is there. And the front one is working, but as soon as I try the back one there is no preview. Dead.
Could you please confirm that it is working for you?
I Tested again back and front camera both camera is working..

Yes
Then all you need to do is to put those files you unrared from gursoft41 into TWRP/Backup/Serial_number folder, boot into recovery and Restore the backup.
If you don't have that folder created, go to recovery, go to backup, make a small backup (choose the smallest partition, because of the speed of making the backup) and the recovery will create the appropriate folder for you. Then put those gursoft41's files in that folder and go again into recovery and restore it.
You can delete your backup that you made when you created the needed folder structure.
I am going to do an experiment(flashing TWRP.img on boot partition and trying to root.) to backup stock recovery.img of Lollipop 5.1. To do this, I need stock boot.img(Kernel Version: 3.4.42-gccbac57) of system version 23.26.2. If there's someone who rooted system version 23.26.2 then take backup of boot.img using Rashr App(Download from here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334554 ) and post that stock boot.img here.
If this experiment succeed then I will post stock recovery.img of lollipop 5.1.
UPDATE: I'm not going to do this experiment because temporary booting of twrp is now working on moto e. We can root device by temporary booting twrp and backup stock recovery.img
isn't there anyone who rooted 23.26.2 ?

It's simple, you just have to extract the boot.img from any ota zip (suggested the official OTA zip)
Do that and give him then.......it will be very good if he can make the 5.1 stock recovery

First of all, you must clarify who is referred to as 'him'?
Secondly, there is no method(according to me) by which you can make a stock recovery from a stock kernel. There are two files namely the boot.img and the recovery.img.
First one is the kernel and the second one is the recovery.
Use the ones you like.
Him meant the op
I don't know if one can make recovery from boot.img.......The op didn't say that either....He said and i quote "I am going to do an experiment to backup stock recovery.img of Lollipop 5.1. To do this, I need stock boot.img(Kernel Version: 3.4.42-gccbac57) of system "
So i thought by using some process he may be able to back up stock recovery....that is why i said like that
and BTW where are those .img files available @Rohitagni

U can find them in any zipped firmware files. By zipped firmware files, I mean the zips for stock firmware, or the update zips that many XDA users capture here from their rooted phones to help users who haven't received the OTA, enjoy the new OS, simply by sideloading.

I'm not making recovery.img from boot.img. I will use boot.img to make my device functional again because I'm going to flash TWRP.img on boot partition and try to root. If device gets root access then I can backup stock recovery.img because stock recovery.img is not over written in process of rooting.
I hope you succeed.........I try to get it from someone
And no @Rohitagni you can't extract boot.img from uploaded update zips but from full firmware zips, yes which is not available

We can't dump stock recovery without root access and moto e has only one rooting method which is flashing custom recovery on recovery partition. It means we lose stock recovery when we get root access.
That's why I'm taking risk of above mentioned experiment to backup stock recovery.

I tried flashing the TWRP from the site of TWRP but it results in blank screen. Also XZDR is not compatible with Marshmallow.
Did you already backup your TA? You can only do this by obtaining root so it is a must to flash previous FW (KK or LP) then root and backup your TA partion unless you don't care for your DRM keys.
1. Go to http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/ and follow instructions to unlock your bootloader. Alternatively you can use flashtool (just search here in the forums).
2. Download a TWRP image of Scorpion Windy (Z3 Tablet Wifi) https://twrp.me/devices/sonyxperiaz3tabetcompact.html
3. Download older versions of SuperSU. Systemless root doesn't seem to work with Xperia Stock so you go the system way, older versions are preferred. Will attach the zip I used.
3. Flash MM FW by Flashtool, do initial setup.
4. Boot into fastboot, fastboot the TWRP image you downloaded. Reboot and you should be in recovery
5. Flash the SuperSU. Flash also the RIC defeat zip. Reboot and you'll notice your just in TWRP.
6. Force shutdown.
7. Open flashtool flash the mM FW but only kernel and the FotaKernel, dont wipe anything. Reboot. It should start.
That worked for me.
After you, need to install busybox from playstore and the SELinux Changer app
P.s I can't attach any file however you can find everything i mentioned (Zips) here at XDA and TWRP. I still need to enable init.d but I guess that's difficult with stock rom stock kernel. Oh, and you can install flashfire in substitute of your recovery. Be careful with flashing Zips after you have a stable system since you don't have recovery and therefore no Nandroid backup

Well then, I knew what I should have done before I lost root. In any case, what certain DRM keys would I be losing on the tablet? I know the biggest commotion on the phones were the camera algorithms.

You would lose camera algorithm (I don't care for that, it's a tablet and its pictures are bad from the start).
X-reality and display enhancements, sound and noise cancellation (This is i don't want to lose since i use mine mainly for graphic projects) and remote play. That's only what I remember, i don't know if I missed out something.
NO NEED TO UNLOCK THE BT, flash a MM prerooted zip you can make it yourself with prf you need the FTF, recroot and superSu.
Anyway if you still want unlock the bt backup the drm keys with backupta

i willread on that. last timme i checked it out mostly devices are with sgp 612 (wifi) anyway thanks for the tip.
Can you give me the link on that thread? i checked the threads here on this device forum and they are for sgp 612 and 611 (wifi versions)
I have found many sites with conflicting answers, so please don't tell me "google is your best friend" for my silly/already asked questions...
So first what I have: a 5 month old, non modified M4 aqua (E2306), bought from a Canadian carrier. The firmware version is 26.1.A.3.111 (bootloader locked). My goal is to root my phone when I update to MM (using the method PiSpecialist has posted, I cannot post links), but I haven't done so for the fear of losing TA partition when unlocking BL. There is currently no way to root MM with locked bootloader.
Now, my questions:
1. When I unlock my BL, I will lose the TA partition (DRM keys) of the device. Yet to back these up, I need root access. Should I root my device while it is still on Lollipop? There are ways to root BL Lollipop correct? If so, please link a preferable way to do this.
2. Will I receive OTA updates after rooting my phone? If not, I should download and flash firmware from Xperifirm?
3. Will I lose root when flashing new firmware (e.g. flashing MM to a rooted Lollipop device)?
4. Is it dangerous to flash official firmware to a rooted phone? What is a safe way?
I found that dealing with TA is dangerous and can hard brick a phone. Anybody found a reliable script/tool to do this?
So this is pretty much what I am planning to do so far, if the above is correct:
Root my phone while it is still on Lollipop with a locked bootloader.
Backup my TA partition.
Get MM (from either flashing, or OTA, depending if I still get OTA updates)
Unlock bootloader (as there is no way to root for locked bootloaders in MM)
Root phone while it is on MM (if I don't keep the root after updating from lollipop)
Restore TA partition
DONE!
Not as many questions as I thought.... Any other advice/things to look out for would be appreciated
Theres no way yet to have root in mm /system, it needs to be in kernel and you cant use custom kernel and restore ta. All the questions you did are already answered in forums.
But in case your interested ill tell you what i did step by step to have original TA part with drm and "tunned" but unrooted /system.
Keep in mind that your warranty is void, you will loose all your data and you may brick your device. Messing up with TA partition is serious and dangerous stuff. The following steps are just to tell you what i did.
If you want to do so, do it at your own risk.
1. Clean install LP 3.120 via flashtool wipping user data.
2. Root with rootkit 3.xxx and installed twrp for BL
3. Backup TA
4. Unlock bootloader and install MM fw via flashtool
5. Now with BU installed boot.img and recovery.img
6. Now with root, deleted unwanted apps, installed adblocker, installed xposed, tunned some settings/apps etc.
7. When /system was how i wanted, i made a backup via twrp (data, system, cache).
8. Clean install LP 3.120 again via flashtool, wipping user data.
9. Root via rootkit and installed twrp for BL.
10. Restored TA partition
11. Restored the backup via twrp and SHUTTED DOWN the phone because itll not match with the rest of the fw.
12. Installed MM fw again via flashtool but this time, excluded /system part and DID NOT WIPE user data nor Apps log. (as ive restored MM /data backup before)
13. Started the phone.
Now i have MM with drm, locked bootloader, unrooted, xposed working with few modules, adblocker applied and some other mods. Also i receive updates via sony apps such as whats new. And the low speaker volume seems to be fixed.

What adblocker can be install?
Btw, false alarm regarding speaker volume, it still saturate with bass at higher volume resulting in a lower and kinda cracked volume output, it may need to be tweaked, or even try to port LP audio parametres to MM rom, if thats even a thing and possible, until sony fix it (if they do lol). Ive tested a variety of songs

Theres no method at this moment to put su binaries in /system, but if you dont mind you can keep the root as long as you dont restore your TA / lock bootloader as it needs a stock kernel signed by sony.

No, you exclude system as you restored it early via twrp, flash the rest of the firmware like modem, kernel etc. Remember to dont wipe data and apps log also
Edit: if you flash system youll loose the changes you did thats why you need to exclude from bundle when choosin in flashtool

Thanks! This was what I was looking for!
Also, will you be able to root after this? (If someone comes up with a method)

Your welcome. Yeah if someones finds a way to do the classic root like in LP this will be rootable for sure.
At least in the meanwhile we can have ads blocked and xposed with some modules and still keep bootloader locked with drm keys to keep functions and receive updates.

This is what im going to do...
Root bootloader locked in LL
Back up TA
Unlock bootloader
MM through flashtool
Root MM (boot.img , recovery.img) (This IS what you did by flashing these, right?)
http***://forum.xda-developers.com/m4-aqua/general/root-t3421932 (going to use this boot and recovery .img)
Chang/add to Marshmallow firmware
At this point, the device should be rooted on MM, with UB TWRP and SuperSU.
Now, is it okay if I just restore TA partition NOW, instead of going back to LL? I'm not really interested in saving OTA updates... speaking of which, how did you manage to still get them? I thought as soon as you modify your device, you are excluded from OTA updates...

Yeah you root mm by flashimg boot.img.
First, some people reported that is recommended to restore TA partition in the same firmware as you backed them up. Second, if you restore your TA and you have custom boot.img (like that one to get the root) your device will not boot
thewailer said:
6. Now with root, deleted unwanted apps, installed adblocker, installed xposed, tunned some settings/apps etc.

i have locked bootloader and its not unlockable (buyed to a company) and after some test i can tell you that don't need to unlock bootloader to do this
you can do it from rooted LP with twrp, first wipe data , system and cache, install MM fromzip (you can create the zip with PRF creator using the dummy_flashable.zip instead supersu zip) after MM its installed you can now install xposed, and other kind of flashable mods, lastly, power off phone and flash tft skipping system.sin
you will have android modded and untouched bootloader without root

id rather prefer to do the system changes with root in the mm firm, but sounds like a good method for those ones that cant unlock the BL.

Can't everyone unlock from the Sony website?
DarkerJava said:

If on rooted 5.0 all you need to do is flash a pre-rooted mm zip via recovery on lollipop, no need to unlock the Bootloader for root unless you have a device that has drm-verity security activated.

Oh yeah I completely forgot about that... someone released a prerooted rom about a week ago on the forums. This will less complicate the process for bl locked rooted MM, thanks!
A new tool has just been released to backup TA using the Dirty Cow exploit. After that, you should be able to unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash su and restore TA. Then your device should be rooted with DRM retained.
I don't have a XC so I'm unable to test.

But according to another post, actually it's impossible to keep root after TA is restored. Do you know if it's true?

That's correct. But it's important to have the TA backup for restoring full functionality.
There might be a way to use the previous DRM patches combined with flashing only the TA unit for the device key in order to have full stock functionality with root. Also would need a custom kernel for the latest stock firmware update.

For those who are unable to navigate modern forums (like me) there is a downloads tab in the post that will have the files you need to backup TA.

I had the same difficulty finding where to download. lol!
but worked like a charm for me
Add firmware v.34.1.A.1.205 to the list.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ersal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236/page7
(I have no idea why my browser crashes if I point it directly to my post lol)
I just was able to pull a copy of TA from the Customized CE1 (Central Europe) v34.1.A.3.49
When next version (hopefully Nougat) is available I plan to load the known compatible version 34.1.A.1.198 and compare checksums to verify. However, I did get a file with 34.1.A.3.49 which has the November 1st android security updates.
*edit*
After reading it appears that TA changes every boot. However, when the time comes to update software I will revert back to known version with compatibility and then re-pull TA.

Now that we can have a backup image of TA, can we use this tool to repack the kernel and restore DRM functionality?

- Yes, I think we can. As long as the TA unit address for device key has not changed then it should work.
- After some rest when I have my Wits about me I am going to attempt it
Guys,
could someone please tell me step by step, how to restore TA?
EDIT - know, after restoring TA I have a password option - cant get over it? any ideas?
Ok... done
I can confirm, it works - backup and restoring
So...
This is an outline of how I have managed to get root with devicekey back into the TA partition.
NOTE:
- I am only interested in running rooted stock sony firmware so for me this is OK for the moment.
- I am looking into why FIDO_KEYS come back as unprovisioned, everything else seems fine.
Follow this at your own risk
- Install latest stock firmware via flashtool 34.1.A.3.49
- Backup TA Partition
- Unlock bootloader using Sony website
- Extract kernel.elf from kernel.sin using Flashtool
- Create root kernel using this tool
Code:
[email protected]:~/Desktop/rootkernel_v5.0_Windows_Linux$ ./rootkernel.sh kernel.elf boot.img
- Unpacking kernel
Found elf boot image
Kernel version: 3.10.84-perf-g2cfe3ef
Found appended DTB
- Detected vendor: somc (Sony), device: kugo, variant: row
- Unpacking initramfs
- Detected platform: 64-bit
- Detected Android version: 6.0.1 (sdk 23)
- dm-verity is enabled. Disable? (Say yes if you modify /system) [Y/n] y
Disabling dm-verity

- Create devicekey which is flashable via flashtool
Code:
[email protected]:~/Desktop/rootkernel_v5.0_Windows_Linux$ ./flash_dk.sh TA_F5321_QV705K140B_20161208-1905.img devicekey.ftf
- Extracting device key
- Creating FTF file for device F5321
- Cleaning up
Done
- Flash devicekey.ftf via flashtool
- Boot device into fastboot and flash boot.img
- I haven't flashed TWRP instead I booted it by:
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
- Flashed SR4-SuperSU-v2.78-SR4-20161115184928.zip
- Reboot device
Fantastic news! This is major. So in theory we should be able to get more rom availability now?

I've never tried creating a custom FTF, so I'm not sure. I downloaded the UK version of 34.1.A.3.49 and was able to flash that successfully.
Have you unlocked your bootloader?
Just thinking FTF may be signed by Sony?
Maybe with a locked bootloader you can't flash custom FTF?
