It usually happens when I plug it into my laptop with the USB cable included. It just stops charging randomly and starts heating. Heats up to aroung 70-80C, and you can smell burning plastic. I don't know how to fix this and it usually starts working properly soon. The warranty wouldn't take it, because it's hard to recreate this. (Only thing that stops my G5 from burning is my laptop. It automatically disconnects G5 with a warning that a power surge was detected)
It also heats up the microUSB to USB-C adaptor, I just tried it [for the first time. Had a Nexus 5x before].
What do I do? How do I get it replaced? Do I wait for it to catch on fire or what?

Well, plastic isn't actually burning, but it smells just like overheated melting cable rubber (I know that because I solder a lot and sometimes I even manage to burn some components, so I know the smell. But that's another story). And there's no visual damage on the port or cable, after cooling it starts working properly again.

Anyone else have this issue. The usb cable comes apart on the asus end(see pic)
P.s. this has never been abused and was treated with the the greatest of care

Nope, maybe try a tiny dab of superglue?
Well I know it is an easy fix I just thought it was kinda weird and wanted to know if I was the only one who had this problem
Yup happened to me. But on the other side. The USB side. Cant sseem to attach the pic from my tfp

Yes! It's a piece of crap! And I tried to RMA to Asus but they want the bad one back and then they'll send out a new or fixed one. So how is a person supposed to charge the tablet with no power cord? Very disappointing, Asus! They've sent me several follow up surveys to the phone calls and emails and I've told them how I feel about this. They don't seem to respond after that... Haha! Oh, well. The superglue route is probably the best way to go, anyhow.
My cable came apart like that the first time I used it. I carefully removed it from the connector on my tablet so as not to damage any wires, and then pushed the cap back on until it clicked and it hasn't come off since.
I think the problem is that the black cap isn't properly seated over the connector on some charging cables so the little clips on the inside never engaged. I have a half dozen chargers for the TF Prime and 3 were like this.
This is definitely something that might scare you the first time you try to unplug your connector, but it isn't a huge problem unless you rip out the wires or something.
My wife's did this the first time we unplugged it. I used a few drops of super glue on it and it has never come apart again. Mine on the other hand never had the issue. I think there was a batch of the plugs that they never put the glue on them so they weren't sealed when they got shipped. Put a few drops of glue on it and seal it up and enjoy the full use of the USB plug

I got my new s and I am liking it somewhat so far. I have a few issues though. First off is Amazon dint give me a us adapter for my charger so I have had to use my pc or PS3 to charge it. Neither of my htc chargers works as I woke up this morning and the phone was almost dead when it should have been charging. The light comes on but nothing happens though I wasn't able to test it while it had booted. This means I was not able to charge the phone when I first received it. I was able to fully charge it today but only with it on. Will this hurt the battery?
The next problem I have is the phone won't start normally after being off and charging. I always have to hold the volume button and the power to get it to work.
Next is the phone seems to get rather hot when surfing the net and when playing a game it gets almost too hot to hold and the games crash.
My next issue is with the keyboard. Is there anyways to get the period on the letter screen. What moron came up with the idea to not have the period there should be fired. I like the default keyboard a lot besides that and would like to keep it.

Usually charging with the ports on your computer or PS3 is a lot slower than just using the wall charger. The only thing I can tell you is make sure that the cable is in all the way.
Also, as a side note, the included USB cable is the worst USB cable I've ever used. That thing fits into the XPERIA so tightly that I have to use a hell lot of force to pull it out.

That's way better then any USB cable on my OG Droid,it was so loose,it fell out of the port when you moved the phone.

The one I have fits perfectly, I'm glad it's not too loose.

so before 2 days my phone was perfectly fine
and now when i charge my phone, it's charging normaly.
and when i plug off the charger from the phone, my phone keeps charging itself.
and i feel like it's draining my battery faster.
is there any solution for it?
Got the same problem since the same day.
Phone rarely able to connect to the PC. Battery indicator keeps blinking (in samsung rom) or showing as if it is charged (in CM9). Phone can't be turn off. Usb keeps disconnecting, making me afraid if something goes wrong when I flash anything with odin PC.
I use speedmod kernel (apollo, actually) and the battery doesn't drain. But still it acts as if it is charged when I turn off the phone.

Had the same problem last summer, I think it's a common fault on the i9100.
Some have been able to fix it by cleaning the usb port, or by gently bending the little piece in there.
That didn't work for me though, had to send it in for repair. They switched the motherboard and usb port.
so my only way to fix it is by sending the phone to repair ?

So you can try cleaning the port on the phone first. Try first with a dry clean toothbrush. If that doesn't work, take out the battery and try cleaning the port with a q-tip and a (little!) bit of isopropyl alcohol. Then let it dry before putting the battery back in. If THAT doesn't work, then you'll need to get the port replaced. You could do it yourself, (I've heard the part costs around $15) or your last option is to send it in for repair.
I wouldn't recommend bending or otherwise moving the little wafer inside the port, however.
I notice that it will continue for a few %, maybe 2-3. It's because the battery gets warn when charging and still continues to until it has cooled down enough. But I don't notice any difference in drain time on mine.

Are you running any custom roms? If you are that might be the problem.

Um... The port you plug the charger or usb cable into? Really the only port on the phone? And clean it the way I already described?
Hey guys, quick question or two:
Is it normal for the USB plug not to be plugged completely in? As in, I can see some metal still exposed when I plug in the USB cable. If I put the slightest pressure on the plug downwards (while phone is face-up), charging ceases.
Any effective (and safe) way of cleaning up the USB port? I wonder if cleaning it last time with a toothbrush might've bent the lip inside the port a bit, so that the connection is a bit more fussy...
Thanks! Rock on DNA fans. :good:
The usb cord isn't suppose to hang out. It should have a tight fit.
Thanks for the reply.
I wonder if missing the USB cover is making looks deceiving. There's about a 2mm gap seen between the body of my phone and the USB plug on the underside. Also, it's actually when I lift the plug a bit with the phone facing up that it stops charging. Though that detail doesn't matter I'm sure, poor contact is poor contact.

There has been multiple threads on XDA developers about the magnetic charging port falling out of the device and im start to regard buying a dk36 charger.
I want to ask a few question in regards of the use of the magnetic charger and how you think it came loose in your device:
How did you get the magnetic charger to attach to your device? did you just let it clip in with the magnetic or did you have to apply force to either the device or the charger to get it to start working?
With the use of the official magnetic charger (dk36) did you just let it clip to the device or did you have to apply pressure to the device to get it start charging once it clipped in?
How did you remove/ dismount the charger?(kinda stupid by hey)
And how did you fix the problem/ RMA the device?

I have been using mine for the past month and nothing loose, nothing falling apart. The magnet is not that strong.
Mind you, I don't swim with my phone so I don't know if it has become less waterproof or something like that, but definitely, the port sits tight, it is rigid and no problems.
I've been using the magnetic charger since my Xperia Z1, and never had problems with it coming off.
Same here have the official magnetic charger past few months and no problems what so ever.

I went to a Sony Centre to confirm if the cable is a knock off or not and their answer was: "This is a Genuine cable, but it's not available in your region."
However this cable doesn't have the "build week indicator" so it has to be a knock off, right? 0.o
Anyway this "Sony" magnetic cable gives me a headache. Genuine or not?
You can't apply force to make contact with the charging port(on Sony docks) the magnet is what pulls the contacts together(phone rests on dock).
I've been using magnetic charging docks from day 1(3mo ago) until a few weeks(when my port quit working) and it's still firmly in place(wish it would have fell out instead of failing so at least I could fix it myself).

it seems only older models of the Z2 have alot of issues, only new ones seem not to have these majour faults
my freind has a brand new Z2 and i said you wont like heating issue yet he says he doesnt get overheating while playing games which i feel ls a lie because i had heating while web browsing and this was extreme heating, something not as heavy as a highly detailed graphicly intensive game
but newer Z2 quality apears improved, you can see proof across xda :/
i think sony may have fixed the magnetic port issue in the newest manufactured models :/, its glued in in old but lets see about new?

he claims his batch no. is 14w30
-He claims the folowing:
no heating issues
no camera shut down
no random bootloops
no squshy button issue
no faulty camera button
no flaps issue
no random data loss issue
mine was 14w20 (i had a 14w17 device before sony gave free replacement)
and i had all issues mentioned above
heating (no camera shutdown ever oddly)
random bootloops with no mods
buttons werent clicky at all
camera button sometimes never worked
my flaps wouldent stay closed
my entire device would wipe its self for no reason
list goes on
lol im glad i dont have any phone right now xD
Mine is 14w18 and no issues you mentioned above (except device does get hot after prolonged use under the sun).
I'm wondering is the magnetic charging port falling out due to a really strong magnet on the charging dock/ module or is it falling out due to heat or applied force ?
I assume the official charging dock dk36 would have the "correct" magnetic strength to not ripp out the magnetic port of the phone
I've been having a lot of problems with my magnetic charging cable. When I first got it (from Amazon), it worked great. Connected easily, and charged wonderfully. Now, it seems loose and wobbly, and I have to set it the right way so it connects. Tolerable if setting on table to charge, but in the car or while holding it is frustrating.
I have a 14w19, and have been having overheating issues at times, and 1 dead pixel, and not rooted.. Should I try for a replacement?
well my official dk36 just came in so yeh lets see how thing goes and if its faulty or not
