No sir, you should be just fine, try to reflash back to stock using odin, pull the battery remove the sim and sd card, and then go into downloader mode, and try again.
stock FW here, good luck.

Read the froyo thread you need to adb reboot
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
still cant get it to work... i dunno what im doing wrong. but it seems like all the files needed arent in the link from above.
Keep trying
Try enter "downloading mode" with the sd card in the phone(after many attempts it worked for me), there is a thread in this forum about how to enter "downloading mode" and flash the phone.
still cant get out of the android system recovery mode.. ive tried holding buttons down while turning the phone on and off and theres nothng happening. still cant use the power button as the ok.
i got the same problem i cant use any button as ok
is there a way to get the ok button, or what i can do to get over this problem
thanks in advance
Let me know if these steps help:
Here is a couple of methods to get into download mode. Once you get to
download mode, follow the directions in second part of my post...
First Method
1) Pull the battery, sim card, and sd card.
2) Reinsert battery but do not press any buttons.
3) Plug into usb that is connected to your computer. If something shows up
on the screen (charging logo) then you should be golden.
4) Hold the vol up, vol down, and power until the screen comes on,
immediately release the power button but not the other two. Hopefully it
will boot into download mode and than you can use Odin to get back to stock.
Second Method
1) Another method that seems to work for some people is to pull the battery,
sim, sd card.
2) Reinsert battery and hold both volume buttons but do not press power
button.
3) Then plug in usb. The phone should boot into download.
Third Method
1) You will need the samsung ADB drivers installed for your phone and ADB.
Samsung Drivers for 32 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...=SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
Samsung Drivers for 64 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...ung/vibrant/&file=usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
2) Remove sim card and sd-card. Remove the battery.
3) Hold buttons vol up, vol down, and power.
4) While holding down those 3 buttons put the battery back in and keep
holding all 3 buttons until the vibrant disappears and reappears. Once it
reappears, release all 3 buttons.
5) Now connect your phone to your pc via USB cable.
6) Open a cmd prompt and navigate to the folder with ADB and type "ADB
REBOOT DOWNLOAD" caps are not necessary.
7) Your phone will reboot into the download
How to get back to stock once in Download Mode:
Download the files in the linked thread and follow the directions there or
the ones in my post below.
Odin and Files Needed Available Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
1) Open Odin and verify that one of the Com ports shows a device connected.
If it doesn't try using a different usb port.
2) Load the .pit and pda files. It should be pretty obvious how to do that
once you are in Odin.
3) Make sure that the option to partition is unchecked. The other two
options should be checked.
4) Hit start and wait.
5) Your phone will restart when Odin is done and you will be good to go.
Seems to be the same issue
I just tried upgrading to 2.2 using Odin and this seems to be the same problem. It seems that every solution starts with, "Enter Into Download Mode..." but no method seems to work.
I wouldn't say the phone is "bricked" as when it is plugged into a computer it will install the drivers and Odin sees it, but I can't get it into anything but recovery mode.
The buttons seem to be strangely mapped, the up and down buttons are reversed and the power button doesn't seem to be working as the "Ok" button. The menu toggles the recovery screen and the <!> graphic with the Android. Anyone figured out how to solve this? In the meantime I will continue attempting to get into download moad.
Hi, I have the same exact problem. Stuck in system recovery. Volume buttons reversed. Power button does nothing. Cannot get into download mode. Please Help
what happened?
I just got the same issue :S
the volumes buttons are wrong and the power (OK) button is not working on system recovery mode...

Folks, any update regarding this problem. I got very same problem, and could not find a solution yet.
hints?
I have the same problem also. I got into the problem by following a thread down grading to 2e version from 3e version. I've tried lots of things including going back to stock--or what I think is stock. I now have the 3e version again but when I bring up recovery mode the up/down buttons are backwards and the ok (power) key doesn't work.
Suggestions? HELP?
We can get into root console and manually tweak files if that will help.
UPDATE----SOLUTION
I got this working by reloading the stock t-mobile kernel from http androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/. This link provided at that site is single file so just use the pda and pit boxes in odin. In desperation I selected re-partion and Phone bootloader update.
I was unable to get into the recovery console with hitting any keys but adb did the trick. Volumn-up and power gets into the flash download
Finally Fixed it
I finally was able to get the phone into download mode by holding down the volume up key, the search key and the power key.
It seems the key mapping was just messed up.
After it entered download mode I followed the guide on androidspin /2010/08/09/ how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant (add the .com to androidspin, forum won't let me post links yet)
Hi How did you hold the search key. It does not light up till the vibrant shows on screen. Can you please explain how to managed to hold vol up, power and search together? thanks
Sivaavis its only a 3-button combo, not 4. Why u holding down search? Its up,down volume and power and then when the vibrant logo shows u let go of power.

If you are in recovery mode just go into adb and type in:
adb reboot download
You should be in download mode
Hello,
I am not sure what happened, but here is the story.
First, I tried to root the phone using the 1-click method, only to later realize that it does not work as the phone I had was running the latest OTA update. I wanted to reset my phone to factory default and I proceeded to do that.
Now, when my phone starts I see the small recovery menu and a lot of red letters stating that the system could not mount, find or open recovery directories, files or logs. (On the screen is this info Enter ok key,Select vol up/down Rebot system now, apply update from scard, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition But nothing will move courser, then blow that in red is E:failed to open/res/recovery.fstab(no such file or directory) E:unknown volume for path[/cache/recovery/command with a lot more then in yellow letters #manual mode# and the same messages)
When I enter the download mode, and tried to use Odin or ADB, neither one can detect my device. I tried installing different samsung drivers on my system to no solution to being able to detect the device. Is this due to Windows not being able to initiate the drivers correctly, because when I connect the phone in Download mode, Windows has a pop-up show up that says "Drivers not recognized, your device might not work properly".
Does this mean the phone is bricked or is there something I can do to restore the phone?

did you try a different usb port? also I'd try heimdall and see if that works and sees your phone. which stock odin package are yup trying to flash?
I did manage to recover to the stock EH03 rom, by doing the first couple of steps in section 4 of the Guide for installing Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070).
At this point, I cannot get root on my phone. I tried using 1 click root methods and those fail to install SU. I tried using the manual method of pushing rage.bin file using ADB, but that also failed.
I tried flashing some of the ROMs from section 4 of the above guide, but they cant seem to install on my phone. When I try to install through recovery, I get the picture of the android on the side and a failed install and either get stuck with the Samsung logo or a recovery boot loop.
Am I missing a step or something in order to root the phone or load a custom ROM? Is it possible that my phone cannot be rooted due to a lock somewhere?
Thanks.

Hello. Today i wanted to change my OS on my S3. So i have done it, i wanted to do some upgrades like viper4android. I have broken volume up, so the only way to get into recovery is in android only. So, I installed it, and i have bootloop. I cant boot to fastboot (volume up needed), and ofcourse recovery. I can see only bootloop... I just have to boot into recovery. How to do that? Help, please. Thanks.
Does adb recognize your device? If so
adb reboot recovery
If you don't have adb then go get them via Google

Well, i tried, but my phone isn't recognized on my pc. I just plug it into pc, and nothing. Tried on netbook, nothing . Dunno why. Its normal?
You have drivers installed?
I know this is an old thread, but I figured it'd be better to hijack it than create a new one.
A while back my phone started randomly freezing and rebooting, last week it just got into a bootloop instead, my volume up key isn't working, so I can't go into recovery-mode nor download-mode (since one has to press volume up to continue), I've tried to use adb, using a script to wait for a connection, then instantly freezing it so it can either send over a file or just boot into recovery, but it seems it doesn't boot up enough for a connection to start. I also tried removing my volume key and manually pressing the volume up key with both a toothpick and a screw-driver (just in case contact with metal would change the outcome), but didn't work. Has anyone found a solution?, Is there a way to boot into either recovery- or download-mode without the need to have the phone turned on first or using the volume up key?

Do you have an sd card? Or usb drive with a usb otg connector? If so, (Not sure if cm recovery us close to twrp, but if it is) then you should be able to copy the data folder to one of those and then flash a new Rom and then copy and paste some of the directories. Orr do a nandroid backup if /data, and then flash a new ROM and restore that data backup afterwards. They would have to be the same Rom as you have now though
Sorry it took me so long. Next time quote me so I get a notification

I found this guide on how to flash twrp and root, you shouldn't worry about rooting until you get booted up first... As for the force reboot, I couldn't find out how to force power it off, so try some of the following:
- Take our battery (if there is a removable one)
- Hold down the volume down and power simultaneously for about 10 seconds (maybe less, maybe more)
- If there is a physical home button, try holding volume down, power and home. (Or volume up)
Once powered off (when the screen turns off, you maybe have to be quick before it restarts. If it does just re-power it off and try again) then hold down power and volume up to boot into recovery mode. You shouldn't need twrp if you can boot into cmw. But I do recommend it when we are finished...
You'll also need a custom (or stock) ROM to flash. I'll show you how to push to your phone with adb if mtp doesn't work in cmw.

Alrighty so if you have fill adb drivers than great, if not this should still work fine...
Download this: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298958289
Has adb in it, ignore all the root stuff. So extract the file to your desktop and open the folder. Put your ROM in the folder and name it something easy like rom.zip (important it's not rom.zip.zip)
When in the folder, hold shift and then right click inside the folder and select "open command window here" and then type "adb devices" and make sure something comes up with a ton of random characters. If nothing comes up (make sure phone is plugged in lol) then install your phone's drivers. Then try again. Next type this exactly as follows (if you names it rom.zip)
Code:
"adb push rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip"
**NOTE the space between rom.zip and /sdcard**
This should take awhile, depending on how big the file is. You should see a pulsing dash in the left side of the command prompt. It will stop blinking and bring up a new line when done. Now go into cmw and flash the file in your sd card (rom.zip)
Going to sleep, I'll reply early in the morning before school

No, my device is not rooted. I just fix it. First when I put the update in a formated SD card in a folder dload and then connected to my pc, hold + and - volume buttons + power button it started updating, it finishes and nothing happened, and when I push again the buttons there wasn't Factory reset in the menu but when I disconnect the phone out of the PC and hold volume keys and power then the factory reset menu appeared. I reset it and now everything is ok.
