Moto z usb storage disconnecting and reconnecting! - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hi, can't transfer files on my new moto z due to it continuing to disconnect and reconnect to my computer when plugged in. I tried the same cord on another phone and it worked on the second phone. I tried multiple type c cored on the MOTO z and still nothing.
NOTE: I was able to serve a 1.2 gb file to it in adb sideload (when updating to nougat). Without any interruptions. The phone also says charging while disconnecting and reconnecting from my computer. I also want to note in twrp when plugging in the phone it disconnects and reconnects as if it were in the OS. The only thing that stays stable is adb sideload and I was able to flash multiple firmwares without anything going wrong in fastboot. I was also able to move the phone around while doing this.

Atrix 4G USB Problem

Hi I have a Atrix 4G and I was charging it fine yesterday and then today I tried to plug the phone to my computer but phone is not detected and then again the charging doesn't work too. what should I do and did anyone have this problem before? and there's no problem with the data cable cause I checked it with another phone. Please help me with this.
have you tried a different USB cable and it charger box for wall outlet?

What ROM have you got installed? I had this problem with CM7-ICS-MOD2 rom, but I reinstalled the ROM and its fine.
I've also had problems with buying cheap USB cables that pass some voltage/current to the phone (so it shows charging icon) but somehow Windows won't recognise the phone... doesn't sound like your problem tho
I think it's not the rom, I think it's the cable and it's not a cheap cable thought it's the normal motorola cable, well what could I say **** happens and all my data's gone cause I thought it might be a problem with the rom. thanks all
I had the same problem with a different phone.. The problem is connection point on the phone especially if it's not charging.. So I'm not sure if that's a part that can be replaced or not.
Hey all. I figured it out, went out side and took a different cable and it worked fine. it was a cable problem.thanks all for supporting.I'm gonna get a new cable from Motorola.
I have 4 cables that don't work on stock android 1.8.3 and I don't get it. I can use RSDLite and the computer detects it without the slightest issue. All the cables work flawlessly if I start rsd on phone boot and it detect right up. So what is wrong with the stock 1.8.3? Should I upgrade... I want to root my phone but can't since I can't use USB.... wtf?
When you plug in your phone, check if you see anything in device manager. Maybe you need to install drivers..

Windows doesn't have a clue no matter how many perfect cables I use. It works and connects perfectly and immediately over rsdlite. I have 5 known to be working fine in cm7 cables. It will show as charging over AC if I restart the phone and keep the usb cable plugged in. It says it's charging over ac and it doesn't detect it in Media portal or mass storage or anything. Nothing shows up. Why is it that rsdlite works perfectly. This makes me seem that the android OS is at fault. Right? Nothing shows up in Device Manager. Only when in rsd lite mode, it will detect the phone and it will show up in Device Manager.
it's been about 48 hours one a full battery and it'll still at like 80%. I need to charge my phone soon...
Maybe I'll re-flash in rsdlite again? I flashed all the sbf's for stock roms with the same result. Should I reinstall again?
thanks

Hello,
I'm having a problem with the S4.
When I plug it into the computer (Running Windows 7), the device starts charging and I can sync files with the device.
But, it starts reconnecting, the USB connection just keeps disconnecting and connecting over and over again, nonestop.
But the device is still charging, only the connection to the computer stops.
Its going back and forth drom cd installer to mtp? Drivers are installed?
Does someone know what the problem might be?

I had a similar issue, the problem was damage to my USB ports. Try different ports.
When this was happening to me I found the problem to be the cord I was using, with the littlest of bumps it would loose connection. Try swapping to another cord and see if it fixes your problem.

^ This. I've got quite a few cables that I cycle between for different instances, and there are one or two I have that seem to be really finicky.

Don't know why it happens but ROMs like jellybeans4 bypass the installer and go straight to mtp which fixed it for me.

I had a similar issue where it would constantly disconnect and i could never get it to connect long enough to get past the installer, but it only happened on my desktop and on all usb ports, so i rooted using my laptop which didn't have the problem, and installed Hyperdrive, and now i can connect to my desktop just like i was before, but without all the disconnects. so it seems like it was a combination of my phone and my desktop not getting along nicely, but with a custom rom everything is fine.
Ahh now that I think about it the newest Samsung USB Drivers might help him also.

DNA now won't connect to PC

So I was just going to change ROMs, and I realized that my DNA won't connect to a PC over USB anymore. I always plug it in at work via USB to a laptop to charge, and it would normally open the autostart/autorun window, which I would always notice because I'll switch computers often. Last week the autostart dialog stopped opening, but I was distracted with work being busy and it just went to the back of my mind.
Until now.
I've checked all the normal trivial stuff... trying different cables, using different USB ports, and obviously different PCs. It also won't be detected by ADB. Yes, developer options are enabled, yes USB debugging is enabled. It sounds to me like its the port on the phone, so then I'm screwed, but I was just wondering if anyone knows any tricks I can try.
Are you running a custom rom? Go to settings>storage>storage settings>USB computer connection and make sure the connect as Media device (MTP) is checked. Same thing happened to me and some how this setting was unchecked

You going to laugh at me but download PDAnet and it will redownload the correct drivers.

Have you found a solution for this? I am in the exact same situation with no solutions working for me. I tried PDAnet and many other things. The device is unrecognized by my computer completely not even showing up in the device manager. This likely is a hardware issue, but I'm rooted with no way to return to stock because I can't connect to my computer which makes me unable to use my warranty for repair. This is a really unfortunate pickle as I'm not sure if I can even do anything at this point. I have found online that people with a hardware issue with connecting to their computers also had the slow charge notification when charging either through the computer or the power adapter. Mine does not display slow charge which gives me some hope that it is somehow a driver issue. Do you get the slow charge notification at all?
EDIT: It's a hardware issue for me. Noticed my charger is sticking slightly more out than usual, and it just can't get the right connection

Hey guys, just figured I'd follow up. Sorry for the delay, XDA email notifications somehow ended up in my spam folder.
Anyway, for me it just turned out to be that all the cables I tried were bad. Pretty low odds, I'm actually surprised both my cable at home and the one at work were all bad. Sure enough I tried it with a coworker's cable and it worked fine.

Elephone p9000 wont charge

Just received my awaited elephone p9000 today and had been using it for a couple of hours setting up, Doing an update etc. When i came time to charge it. To sum it up it used the supplied usb c cable to attempt to charge it on multiple usb chargers and tried it with two pc's with no success. When connected to the pc it did come up with 'This device has been linked" Then immediately followed by "this device has been unplugged" Or at least something along those lines. Today i went and purchased a micro usb to usb c adapter and managed to get it to charge momentarily then to find it stop then start again. I am now sitting on 1% power and not sure what todo. Any advice? I have warranty on it from gearbest fyi.

When I first charged my P9000 it did not go over 50% until I updated to the newest OTA and rebooted the device after the last update.
But I have not encountered disconnects or anything like that.
You could also screw your device apart and remove the battery for some time, but as you have a valid warranty I would not recommend that.

If you connect your phone to your PC, is it listed in the device manager? If yes, does your PC recognize it as Elephone p9000?
Have you installed the latest drivers for your phone? (http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-1037-1-1.html#.VWgkX_RAU-0)
Maybe changing the connection type in the notifications (when plugged in) helps in any way ?
Have you tried a different lead? I know this sounds obvious but my brother had a similar problem with his P9000 when he first got it, he used my lead (for some reason my lead was different to his as I bought from a different supplier, dunno why mines a kinda thick white lead, my brothers was a kinda thinner blue Elephone lead) and it worked fine. Although I haven't come across anyone else on here that's come across an issue with the supplied lead.

It does multiple things when it connects at different stages
ON and connected to pc- With elephone cable the phone constantly displays the messages 'Charger has been linked' and 'device has been unplugged' within ~1 sec of each other and no connection is noticed on PC.
With the MICRO USB - USB C adapter nothing happens
Powered off and connected to pc- Charging symbol will flash momentarily every ~5seconds. Pc will ding repeatedly as it connects and disconnects
fastboot- Somehow connects and is recognised by PC
Ive managed to get it past 30% power but took ages todo from leaving it powered off and just flashing on and off charging

I only have 2 leads unfortunately. The stock elephone and a micro usb to usb c adapter with a working micro usb attached. Ive ordered some more online and waiting their arrival. Im stuck on what todo
That is indeed very strange.
You could try to flash TWRP 3.0.2.1 via fastboot (http://en.miui.com/thread-58623-1-1.html, just use the TWRP for Elephone P9000 instead), but I would not recommend that as your connection is really unstable. The chance of bricking your device is much higher than the chance that your problem is solved.
If the leads you ordered do not help you should get it replaced.

sm-n920a error when plugged into computer

I've tried everything I can find on the web to repair this sm-n920a. Any time I plug it into a computer it comes up with a usb error.
I've even replaced the charging port, with no luck. It charges fine, doesn't appear to be any damage, tried 5 different usb cords that are working fine with other phones.
The ultimate goal for me is to update it to nougat, but the ota won't push on it from at&t, and obviously I can't force it to update plugged into the computer.
This even happens in download mode.
This happened to a lot of these phones, the ultimate real fix it seems to be replacing the mobo, but would like to know if anyone has any real fix, or a way to work around it to install nougat. I've tried a dozen things to get it to try to push nougat too with no luck.
Since these phones dont even have an sd card I can't even load files onto it unless maybe by bluetooth?
I wonder if I moved nougat over to it by bluetooth could I then get it to install somehow?
I just verified it's definitely something wrong with the phone cause I can insert a usb dongle that I have and a usb drive which comes up fine on my note 4, but doesn't appear on the note 5...although the light on the usb drive turns on, but it just doesnt see it...so there must be something wrong with the drivers on the phone, or something on the phone end...any help would be appreciated.
usb host check shows usb host not enabled on the phone. Can only "fix" it it appears with root, can't root without usb access.....daaaammmnnn
