Hi. Can anyone tell me how to compile an android kernel in Ubuntu 16.10?
Upon compilation starting, there is a "make" error popping up about "Unrecognized option -EL", and the process is failing.
I've also tried the same in Ubuntu 16.04, and ended up with the same results.
For many days, I've stuck with Ubuntu 14.04 in Windows 10, a feature they introduced earlier in 2016, but I want a pure Linux environment badly and also, not that old 14.04.
So any clues?
I noticed the default gcc is 6.2 in 16.10 now(don't know if that's a problem though because I'm using a cross compiler)
Help please.

I've been wanting to start building from source so I could actually try to contribute some development time to a rom.
I've seen some of the build from source threads and even tried to use the wiki from one ROM's page. but the latest version of Ubuntu doesn't want to even get the Android SDK installed let alone get the latest code. So I was thinking that I would try to get this up and running on one of my windows boxes and was wondering if anyone else is building from a Windows machine.
If so is there a good resource or tutorial for getting started.
Don't think you can build with windows or it'll be hard to set up. Are you in Ubuntu 11.10?
Sdk should install fine though it isn't necessary to build. Follow Google's initializing build environment guide or cyanogen mods wiki guides.

I pulled down the latest Ubuntu build through Wubi (easy dual boot and removal since I was putting it on my wife's laptop).
Doing that since I haven't found a way to get a VM to recognize my phone when it's connected. I'll look up both of those guides and try them... thanks.
The Google guide has instructions to allow computer to detect and also put adb in bash.
Would not rec wubi for anything other then temporary which you seem to be doing. Just make an actual partition for Linux later, else you will run outta space.

ok, so on two installs of Ubuntu 10.11 the guide from setting up the Android build environment isn't going according to plan... so i'm wondering what version of Linux are you guys using to build?
Hi,
I have a Lenovo Yoga tablet 2 10". It comes in two variants, the Windows version with a 32gb disk, and an Android version with a 16gb disk. From everything I can find out, those is the only difference between the two.
Because of projects like Android on Intel and Console OS I decided to buy the windows version with an intent of developing a dual boot tablet.
So, so far I have started the build process of the Intel baytrail target, and it has been running for a couple hours. everything is looking good though.
Next I am trying to build lenovo's kernel sources Located here for my tablet but had problems as I did not have the NDK and when I tried to install it on my debian wheezy machine, it complained about glibc being the wrong version, so I have to upgrade to sid to get glibc 2.17.
Anyway, my real question is, I can figure out how to build the Intel android installer, and I can figure out how to build a kernel, but How do I combine them?
The Intel make command, seems to build the kernel into some kind of installer, that then installs a bootlader (droidboot) and the rom on the tablet.
Hello everybody,
I downloaded Android cm-13 sources to start developing and I'm trying to import it on Intellij following instructions on cyanogemod wiki (that says to run: make idegen ecc.).
First time I ran "make idegen" I got an error message saying that my java version is wrong ( I had Oracle java 8, instead of Openjdk 7 needed) so I removed my java and I tried to install openjdk 7 but unsuccessfully because there a lot of dependencies that cannot be installed cause of old versions. (I'm working on last version of Kali linux, I don't know if it could be the problem). Anyway I finally installed openjdk but version 8 thinking that should be the same but I still get the error message about my java version and that version 7 is needed.
Any ideas about it?
Thanks guys.

I removed Kali linux cause of other problems and keep it on a usb stick as live os. Now i'm working on Xubuntu 16.04, i redownloaded sources, packages needed but still have problems with openjdk version. Openjdk 7 is not in repositories and i cannot find it through internet, I reinstalled openjdk 8 but still get error message as above.
I solved adding openjdk repository and installing version 7.
Now i'm trying to import project in Intellij but, when i launch "development/tools/idegen/idegen.sh", this is the ouput:
Code:
Couldn't find host out directory. Make sure ANDROID_HOST_OUT is in your environment.
I googled it but didn't find anything.
I solved the last problem, I'm stupid XD i exported the variable (ANDROID_HOST_OUT) but then i was calling idegen.sh as root so it didn't recognize the variable.
Anyway, now I started Idea to import android.ipr (as wrote on cyanogen wiki) but a new error occurred:
"Couldn't import anything from ...path/android.ipr"
Googled but nothing. Any1?
Solved. "Open" and not "import".
Hello, I am looking to install an OS on my HP Touchpad but I'm thinking of possibly Linux desktop OS. I have seen Ubuntu run on it but I would like to know if anyone has been able to get Arch Linux (Created within the past few years) to run and working properly? If Arch Linux is not an option I will take any Linux OS that will run on it.
