Samsung Galaxy SII keeps turning itself on after I shut it down. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have issue with my phone. Everytime I turn it off, it turns itself back on. Even after I put out the battery and I put back in, it turns on. Well recently it fell into water just for a second but not sure if it because of this. With this issue there is another that it shows that it is charging but it is not. I am using CM 12.1
Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem with a phone which has a bad kernel.
Maybe you could upgrade to CM13/Android 6,

You might have a power button that is sticking.

4.2 broke the battery info screen

In previous versions of Android, the battery info screen indicates that it has been active while the screen has been on (naturally), and you can tell when and how often the phone has been active when the screen was off.
In 4.2 the info about "active" seems to be completely random. You can't tell anything abouth how often the phone wakes up without the screen being turned on, which used to be a great way to discover wheather any app was causing wake ups and possible battery drain.
Is this a known bug that is going to be fixed? Or is it a feature somehow? I'm surprised I haven't found anyone else bringing this up.
It happens sometimes, saw it also on my n7. The problem fixed itself after some hours of usage. A full charging cycle could also fix it.
I have the same issue on my nexus 4 and nexus 7 running 4.2.1. The solution is simple.
When the phone boots up just turn off the screen and turn it back on. Then it will continue counting screen on time.
For me the problem seems to persists no matter what I do.

You could try to plug the charger in and turn of the screen and turn the screen on. And a reboot can't fix it?

It looks like this to me regardless of ROM, on both my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7. Surprises me then, that I am the only one stuck permanently with this phenomenon.

I noticed it a few times, but it fixed itself ( every time I tried different things like playing, the charge etc). My n7 shows me sometimes that it's charging but it's not plugged in, so...

That may be because of dust in the USB plug, or that the "tounge" in the middle of the port is bent towards one of the sides. Try blowing in it, or bending the tounge back.

Device wont turn on, except when plugged in

Ok so for some reason now my SGP 5.0 USA will not turn on right. Whenever I press the power button it shows the loading circle then the battery icon. Now I know what your thinking its dead. But it is not! The battery is always charged. Right now it is at 85 percent and doing this. Only way to get it on is to plug it into the outlet and hold on until finally(after many of the battery reboots as mentioned above) it boots up.
Also it will not stay on. As soon as I unplug the charger the device turns right off. It only seems to start up properly when it is above 95 percent battery. If it is anything under I am forced to have it in the charger. I am on PAC-Rom with Sultan Kernel R5b2. I do not have fast charge enabled.
This is really weird, anyone know whats going on? Is the battery just shot?
Yeah, it happens to me on CM 10.1. I don't think there's anything you can do about it, and if you're worried about it not turning on, why not just charge it whilst it's on? It also seems that both ROMs don't have a charging animation. I'm not even sure if I understood your question, lol.

It does not matter if its on. I plug the charger in and taking it out will turn the device off. If I try to turn it on it wont turn on it just shows the battery icon then turns off no samsung logo nothing. Im just trying to wonder why its happening. It has never been a problem before been using cm 10.1 since they first released it for the SGP 5.0 and this has not started happening until a week or so ago.

Do you try to turn it on when it's plugged in? It's probably the ROM that's causing the problem.
Yes have to hold power button for a good 30 seconds it will do the whole battery icon several times on third one it finally goes to system completely bypassing Samsung logo which is weird.

Did you try draining the battery completely (boot to download mode and let it sit)? That has fixed it for other people.
Can clearing the battery stats by recovery work?

That doesn't affect anything but the usage info in the settings app, so no.

I have just tried this with no luck. This really sucks Its hard to install nightlies and turn it off during the night like I like when I can't even turn it back on or have it reboot into recovery. Think I should try flashing stock then cm9 then cm 10.1 in order see if that helps cause like I said been on cm 10 since it first came out never had a problem until a week ago.

That's odd... Why did this start happening?

I have the Verizon model. Yesterday, I rooted the phone, and flashed the last AOKP milestone build, then turned my phone off for the night, and plugged it in to charge. It charged just fine. This morning, I played around with the phone more, got everything set up how I wanted it, and let it have its first day use.
I'm getting ready to turn in for the night, and just now, I turned off my phone and plugged it in, but I noticed the screen stuck on the big battery image. I waited a while, assuming it would just fade off and then charge normally, but it just stayed stuck. I tried to power the phone on while it was "frozen" on this screen, but it was unresponsive. I pulled the battery, put it back in and connected the charger, and the same thing happened. I pulled the battery again, this time turned the phone on, plugged it in while it was still on, then shut the phone down, and after it powered down, it immediately locks up on the battery image.
It definitely wasn't doing this yesterday when I turned in for the night... Why is it doing this all of a sudden? Is this a known issue? Is there a way to solve this?
Hmmm that is weird. I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM you flashed (someone correct me if I'm wrong here...) because that phone off battery charging animation happens regardless of the ROM. Are you saying the phone won't turn on at all while it is plugged in now? It turns on when unplugged right?
Yeah, it seems like if I plug it in while the phone is off (or if I plug it in while it's still on and then turn it off without unplugging it), it gets stuck on that battery image and becomes completely unresponsive and I have to pull the battery.
Are you holding the power button for around 4 seconds when trying to turn in back on?

Yep. Held it for about that long, nothing happened. Waited a second, then presses and held it down for even longer, still no response.
It's strange to me that this didn't happen at all yesterday, and today, this happens. Him.
The last poster on the Unofficial AKOP + IR builds thread has the same issue. Might be a new AKOP issue then. I'd watch that forum for a while and submit a bug report to AKOP if the problem persists. Also try Odin-ing back to stock and re-loading everything and see if that fixes the issue (if you have the time of course).

I flashed a different kernel. Now when plugged in from power off the big battery image still freezes, but press power and screen will turn off. Hit it again and the small black and white battery charging animation comes up. Hold power and phone turns on.
Problem solved. It's the CM kernel. Now using ktoonsez kernel.

Hm. I'll have to look for that kernel.
By the way, does franco kernel not work with the S4? I downloaded the franco updater app I always used on my Galaxy Nexus, but when I go the screen for downloading the latest kernel like I've always done, I just get a blank screen on the S4.
I don't think he's made a kernel for us? Check original development subforum

Samsung galaxy S3 won't turn on

Hello!
So today my phone had 4% left on battery, I switched it on to show my friend a photo and suddenly the screen turned into so many different colors and just stuck there. I took the battery out and turned it back on, tried to turn it on with no results at all, not even the looping samsung galaxy SIII screen! I thought it was the battery so I put it on charge, but nothing shows; no red LED nor battery screen. I took my battery out for 10 minutes, turned it back in and tried to charge it again, also nothing. I used a different charger, also nothing!
My phone is rooted with the newest CM 11, Kitkat.
Anyone has an clue what just happened? What was that colorful screen?
I would really appreciate some help, thanks!

We have 2 things here:
1. The phone turns on but no screen.
2. The phone don't turn on.
If it is No.1 then you can boot into download mode and flash stock it is hard but possible. Try holding power+home+volume down for 5-8 seconds and then press the volume up key(try volume down to not sure about this one)and then connect the phone to your PC and see if odin recognize and then flash stock and if you are lucky it will get fixed. I got such a problem with my friend's phone and fixed it this way. If it turns on and stock didn't help and if it won't turn on the only way I recommend is to give your phone to a Samsung service center.

Guess I'm sending it to repair, the method didn't work, Odin didn't recognize it
Thanks anyway!

Random Shutoffs and a Single click of the Power button shuts off

So I have a galaxy s3 running Cyanogenmod 12.1 rooted and recently its just been randomly shutting off. It works fine for a bit then just shuts off out of nowhere. Also, whenever I only click the power button it shows the power off, reset, etc. popup then just shuts off before I can even cancel it. This does it sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. After it shuts off and I try to boot it, it goes to the boot screen and just shuts off again. It takes a bunch of tries just to get it up and running again, only to randomly shut off again. I actually only rooted it recently and soon after these problems started showing up, so it may be a software issue.
Have you replaced your battery with a non-original one? I had the same problem with one from Anker. After using again my older original samsung battery the problem has gone.
but maybe your power button could be broken.
you could also try if the problem appears on stock ROM flashed by odin

Ah I have not replaced the battery. I have heard that a common issue was a broken power button so I'll go check that out. This has happened right after I rooted the phone so I'll try to see it if is a software issue first
