[Q] Need help with youtube resolution limit - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, i'm using lenovo A536 and flash it with LineageOS 6.0.1. Just now i realize that youtube doesn't have the 720p or over resolution option, and youtube limit the resolution only up to 480p. Does anyone know how to unlock 720p res for my phone? i know i can overcome this by editing the build.prop, but i dont know which phone model and which line to edit in it.
Thanks in advance.

it's a hardware limitation bruh, its not software problem and you can't do anything about it.
minimum display resolution required to play 720p video are 1280 by 720 pixels, or 921,600,
and yours is 854x480 display resolution which is required exactly to play 480p videos, and can't go
beyond that. and it's not a youtube problem cause youtube will detect what's your display resolution are
and show the resolution capable for your display to show. Even thought you change or tinkered your phone and suddenly you got the 720p or whatever resolution you want, I don't think it's worth it. it's basically a hardware limitation.

[Q] "My ASUS lags on this game" how to down the resolution

Hi guys. Lets say I have a game or app and it lags cause of 1080p. (DO NOT answer like: This is not the resolution problem, because sometimes it is). Or just app is not supported by full HD. Anyway. Can I change the resolution for 1280x800 (Popular and from normal Transformer)? Does simply DPI change work? What to set? Please tell me. Just for the situation with 1280x800, I want ALL apps etc to run in this resolution. Will it lag anyway?
Sorry for my English.

[Q] Webtop 3.0 and true 1080p problem

Im using Multimedia HD Dock and the most important resolution for me is 1080p but in Webtop its scaled to 720p. TV (tested on several TVs new high-end) sees this as an actual native resolution FullHD while it's still HD. In the previous version was the ability to set Webtop true 1080p and there by an official source is off (https://motorola-global-portal.cust...etail/a_id/63272/~/webtop—display-resolutions).
So the question and ask the experts - is it possible and if so, how to modify the system to achieve this true 1080p Full HD resolution? Certainly layout and the processor has the ability.
I'm also interested if there is a solution?
sent from my RAZR MAXX
This question has been answered to death within this forum and the answer is no. No one can get the 1080p natively working using the Razr.
I would also speculate that the CPU is probably not sufficient to run this resolution given the slow-down of apps and games even at 720p.
In previous version of webtop it was possible by editing file: edit xorg.conf file (/osh/etc/X11/xorg.conf):

With pleasure I would like to see if it will work smoothly in 1080p.

[Q] Youtube 5.10.3.5 only allows 720p even on 4k - no 1080p or 1440p

I saw other threads on the youtube update, removing 1440p as an option
Noticed this last night as videos I used to play at 1440 now only show 720p as the max option on G3
I found one "4k" video (the newest gopro demo) that allowed 1080p when viewing.
Tried rolling back and clear cache and data and reboot and rolled back to 5.10.1.5 but now only get 720p as the highest option - even on that gopro vid that gave me a 1080p option using v 5.10.3.5 last night.
Anyone else have this issue?
Sprint G3 (3/32) rooted with Stump
I installed youtube downloader (dentex) last week, not sure if that matters but figured it's worth mentioning
Anyone find a fix for this?
Again my steps:
was already on 5.10.3.5 when I noticed, previous videos in playlists that could view at 1440 now show 720 as highes res option, found ONE 4k vid that offered 1080 option...all others were 720 max (previously known to have higher options...)
uninstalled updates (this rolled youtube app back to default factory version that came with phone)
installed 5.10.1.5 and cleared cache and data and rebooted
tested and 720 is best I can get
uninstalled and tried 5.10.3.5 latest, cleared cache and data and rebooted, still no 4k video view option greater than 720
thanks!
well this is weird... I uninstalled again, and went to v 5.9.0.10 - cleared cache and data and tried that.
loaded a know good 4k uhd video and low and behold I get the option to display it in 1080 or 1440... so I hit back, and try another, nope, now only option is 720, so I go back to the previous video that gave me 1080 and 1440 options and now its only offering 720 !!!
clear cache and data after force close has no effect on this - same video only has 720 option, whereas when I first loaded it I had 1080 and 1440, they just went away on their own.
So anyone have solution for this? i got the same problem! max is 720p on this version!
Same Here!!! So much for 4k support...
Haven't been able to get anything higher than 720p, regardless of version
I got up to 1080p. Weird cause I had 1440 before. On the pc it still goes up to 4k. I've uploaded vids from my phone and my pc will play them full res. Who knows why they changed it.
Here is a screen
Sent an email to the yt dev team asking about this issue. Will update here if I get a response.
A note on my post about dropping to v5.9 and briefly getting 1080 and 1440 options back (until I tried another video to verify):
That behavior is almost like youtube queries your phone (which I assume it does to determine max resolution your particular phone can display and only presents those options to your phone once queried) and since the update is now misreading some versioning of the phone's capabilities (got 1440 and 1080 before the query, then it dumbed down to 720 after the query and nothing I can do will change that (havent tied going back to 5.9 again)).
TL;DR
Wondering if the youtube app update misreads some phone resolution (or model) info and dumbs down to 720 since the update
I didn't even know the YouTube app could play at 1080p or 1440P. I can only see 720p like the rest of you. I went ahead and revoked most of the YouTube app's permissions so that it couldn't see anything about the identify of my phone, the resolution of my screen, or the bandwidth of my Internet connection. Still don't see anything higher than 720p. Could this be a Tablet-only feature? I know KitKat itself restricts us on that front.
So no solution yet?
same here!
I just noticed right now that the only option was 720p. Trying to watch a 4k video, sad to say but im happy im not the only one with this. I have no idea what youtube is thinking
The same thing happened to me. I can only see 720p videos for 4k. This sucks will revert to 5.9.
[Edit]
Nope not even the old app will give me 1440p. This is on YouTube's end. They suck for that.
Same issue for me!
I deleted it then reinstalled 5.9etc

Just an update - still no reply from google yt devs or my other email from "send feedback within the app" - really disappointed with the lack of any sort of attempt to acknowledge or respond to all the users frustrated with this issue.
I just hope till will be fixed before we get the beautiful Nexus 6 with the 2560 x 1440 res!
So no news? :S
I am on the T-Mobile variant of the G3 and I have the same problem. I used to be able to watch videos at 1440p, now it's gone. I also contacted them from their send feedback page on the app. No reply. We have more 1440p phones now. G3 and Note4, soon Nexus 6 will join the party. I am sure tablets with higher resolution would need that extra resolution too.
NOTE possible fix in this XDA Thread: (uses apk from 5.9.0.10 and 5.9.0.14 that someone posted up)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/4k-youtube-t2908238
I have not tried it yet
[edit] - tried it:
Did not work for me. While true i was able to see both 1080 and 1440 options (note I was also able to see 1080 option in the current latest version before I uninstalled to try this - previously I was ONLY able to see max 720 on any uhd or 4k video after 5.10.3.5 update...) - with this method I do see 1080 and 1440 options, but they are never selectable, I pick it, go back to settings, and its still radio buttoned on 720, tried both 1440 and 1080 MANY times on known previously working 1440 and higher vids and still cannot get the option to stick, it just stays at 720 but you can see and even select the 1080 and 1440 options, they just never "take".
Note im on wireless 5ghz connection doing this...
I uninstalled, went back to 5.10.3.5 and cleared data and cache before launching and even 5.10.3.5 gives me 1080 option now (no 1440) BUT - it sometimes lets me select 1080 and other times I have to try selecting it up to 4 or 5 times before it will show up as "selected" when I look at a particular videos settings....

[Q] Per App Resolution

Thanks!

Tab S3 only 720p on Netflix ?

Hey guys,
My Nvidia Shield K1 died, and after several days doing comparison of what's available now, i decided to go for a Tab S3.
Great Super Amoled screen, hdr capable, but only 720p on netflix ? is that true ?
Even the shield k1 can do 1080.
Is it just a config issue or is the tab s3 really only capable of 720p ?
You can play HDR on the tab. I don't use Netflix so I'm not going to be much help. You need the right version of the apk and latest firmware version. If you're rooted use magisk and there is a module for Netflix.
See if anything in here helps, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3711917
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Thx for your reply, but it has nothing to do with HDR, you can be in 720p and still play in HDR. And yes i can play hdr content, at least i see the hdr tag on some content in netflix, but this tablet seems limited to 720p. And i dont understand why.
And i want to know if anyone ever tried the test patterns on there tab, look at the upper right corner, it will show you the bitrate, resolution and framerate. The shield k1 shows 1080p at 30 fps and the tab s3 720p at 30 fps.
