How to Flash a ROM with boot.img and System folder only? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI! Is there any way to flash a custom rom using PC?
SP FLash tool needs a scatter file
but my ROM doesnt have any.
I tried to make my own scatter file but I cant find the system.img
The system.img is a folder
how can i convert the system folder to system.img?
PLS HELP

Ive done this but it was year's ago while making an odin flashable firmware for sgh-t599. Sorry to say I can't remember the procedure but I used guides so the info is out there.
You'll need Linux, and you must know the size of system partition and if it need to be raw img format or sparse img format.
With the right commands these img's can also be extracted straight from a working device.

Converting img files to clockworkmod zips

Hi,
The company Ainol release their latest updates as img files which we than have to flash using a program called livesuit. Does anyone know the process (or have any tips) on converting these img files to clockworkmod zip files?
I can extract the system and kernel files using something similar to this tutorial: http://www.techknow.t0xic.nl/forum/index.php?topic=1679.0
That tutorial explains how to modify the img file and then repack as img. I tried moving the system directory and the kernel & ramdisk over into a clockworkmod zip that i know works and overwrote the files in that with the one i had extracted.
when i try to install it, i get the e: cant open cwmzip.zip
(bad)
any ideas? Maybe i need to get the updater binary from the extracted files somehow?

It really all depends, how many images? What are the images called? What are in each of the images if there is more then one?
thanks for replying, i think i have it right. I ran a log and saw that there was an invalid filename in my zip and sure enough, i looked in the app folder and saw a file with a lot of chinese characters. Deleting this file has sorted this problem
Thanks for replying anyways!

now you have to make an update zip and flash it through CWM/TWRP recovery!
(assuming that your phone has custom recovery installed)

Repack system.img ext4

hi,
for school I'm making a Windows program to unpack system.img, edit it, and repack it.
Is there anyone who know how to do this on windows? without an program? (especially repacking system.img)
I am now using ext4_unpacker and then ext2_explorer link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285831
this is the result: http://i.imgur.com/NJpDoCM.png
how to repack this? I prefer as system.img so I can flash it with adb, but if that is not possible I can also use my custom recovery (twrp or cwm) to flash it.
and I want to do this without a program, I prefer cmd commands.
(if it's possible to add all thos files to one zip file (update.zip) and then flash it in TWRP, that would be a solution, but is it possible?)

[Q] How Do I Extract .img files from gpt.bin

Hi,
I need to extract a few partitions in the .img format from the file gpt.bin from my stock firmware. However, I can't get it due to programs such as 7Zip and WinRAR giving me errors when I attempt to get the files.
I need help to get these files so I can unbrick my Moto X Force.
Thanks

How can I mount/extract .img files from MTK scatter firmware/rom?

I downloaded the stock rom for a Motorola device (E4 Plus) and know how to flash it with SP Flash Tool it but I'm curious as to how I could mount/extract the .img files to see what's inside and try modifications.
Trying to mount the .img files as ext4 on Linux fails and running simg2img also fails. Any ideas?
Another thing I'm wondering is if there's a way to convert the scatter files to a flashable rom (zip file)? and why are the scatter files so large compared to "normal" flashable roms?
