I know that some phones have proprietary camera drivers, meaning that picture quality is not as good on non stock ROMs when compared to stock. What's the best ROM currently for Le Max 2 camera quality? Should I stick with the stock ROM or stock based roms like small EUI by aurel? Or do other ROMs like MOKEE and RR work with the camera just as well?
Thanks!

I have tried only 3 roms. Stock, Cusco and Small EUi. On all of them camera quality is average.
I miss the days when even my Nokia Lumia 640, a subpar spec device were taking stellar photos than Max 2 or even even Samsung S5 couple of years ago.

I think that both Cuoco and small EUi are both modified/debloated stock ROMs.. so still not sure if the camera would be worse with a non-stock based ROM :/ Which of these ROMs did you like the best overall (disregarding the camera)?

I have taken lots of very pleasing shots with the LeMax2. It's not brilliant in very low light, but I rarely take such photos. Daytime outdoor shots are great, some are "stellar" as you put it, and moderately lit indoor shots are also fine. I know Lumias were renowned for their cameras, but I simply don't believe that it generally took better shots than the LeMax2. I think it may be a case of nostalgia that wouldn't be borne out by a side-by-side comparison.
Madmax rom 5.9.20s here
Same question, im madmax rom, but videos dont autofocus, what roms are better?

Hey all I am living in the UK and have been trying out alot of the different Roms for the HD2. However I have yet found a Rom that supports the 5m camera. I find that the Stock Rom is much better for Camera and Video.
So my question to you, Is there a Rom out there that is as good as the 'Core Series' and 'Energy' Roms that support The 5m Camera on the HD2???
Every rom supports 5m camera. What's your problem ?
No it doesn't the core series v2 and v3 only support up to 3m on the camera and same as the energy. The pictures you take with those roms is nothing compared to htc stock

Don't you think it would be better to open your eyes and flip to the second page of the settings where the 5MP are clearly selectable?
lol, yes i tried that but it still does not look half as good as the stock Rom. Surely other people on here agree with me?
hang on while i force my way through the people fighting to agree with you,,,, oh, wait there aren't any,,,,,
hehe
i think your issue must be something else, since no one has yet mentioned anything similar, and i think it would have been brought up a long time ago if it were really the case.
Could it be something simple like maybe a tweak that you always apply whever you flash that is affecting it? sometimes something seemingly unrelated can cause issues in something else.
care to post a few examples of stock rom vs cooked rom images?

You must be smoking some good **** man. 5 Megapixel mode is ON in my ROM and I'm sure all other Leo ROMs as well. Whether they look good to you or not, I dont know. It's still a friking PHONE after all and not a professional camera.
i just wrote a tutorial in this thread (post 26) that should significantly help improve the camera's quality:

I switched from a Samsung rom to an Aosp rom a week or so ago, and while I'm loving most things about it, I really find the default Android camera lacking compared to the Samsung one. The Samsung camera has better focusing, much, much easier to navigate menus, takes better night shots, has stabilization, and seems to consistently take better pictures. Is there any way to get it to work on aosp? I remember there being a way to do it on the s3. If not, what camera apps do you guys use?

Unfortunately you will be unable to use the samsung camera app on aosp. I purchased camera zoom fx and use that. I also have heard people recommending snap hd camera but I haven't personally tried it. The picture quality doesn't seem to be as good on aosp as touchwiz. It's a trade off of running aosp but worth it imo.

i reccommend the motorola one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387369
i also like the Camera Zoom app. But the motox one is best.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll give your ideas a try. I've used HDR camera before with good results, but I'd like an all around good app. I think I'll try the moto one first. EDIT: I tried the moto one. I love the interface, but there are no settings for anything such as video or picture quality, or storage location.
Hi i have on my S4 mini 9195 the CyanogenMod 12.1.

Using it as well and I am happy with it
Try: Focus or Cyanogenmod camera app, they're pretty similar but I prefer CMcamera.
Open camera is the best by far.
i really like the stock camera. And bec of it i am coming back to stock rom from cm12.1, i really like cm12.1 Rom. i am sometime go for it but come back to stock rom because of camera. Tried alots of cameras some are mentioned here. Which are good but i kinda of not satisfied with them . i wish sometime in future Stock camera come to cm.

Will never happen. As source for this has never been released by Samsung. Has been this way for ALL custom ROMs since ever. The camera is the main reason I keep going back to stock. Focus is horrible on pretty much all custom ROMs. But because of major security flaws in stock OS I'll be switching back to CM.
Maybe auto focus is terrible but manual is damn good for macros. I used to make macros of smartphone motherboards, mostly after water damage to show clients that they phones wasn't stop working just by themselves. I can tell You on stock pictures from my phone was a lot worse than my coworker iPhone 5 and now they are a lot sharper and brighter than on his iPhone. I never tested outside photos on CM but I think it's only matter to feel manual focus.
Snap on CM11
Also using 12.1 on s4 mini, I've tried all cameras but have settled on Snap Camera HDR. Focuses fast and accurately, and doesn't lag. Also works well in lower light.
I just came back from CM 12.1 to CM11 in my S4 Mini Duos and switched to snap Camera HDR. Far better than built in CM11 camera app. The only thing I miss is the capturing with on/off button...
I use A Better Camera
Google Camera is pretty fast.
I've settled on A Better Camera (running on CM12.1) as I like layout etc., admittedly auto focus is not as good as CM app in some lighting conditions but a quick tap on the screen and it will focus perfectly.
Try the Ucamera application.
It is very good and it has many effects. It s available on play store
Google Camera is a pretty good choice.
It is not so simple. You can not have the same quality stock cam because any cam app is working with generic drivers in CMs or any other ROM CM based . For the same reason , the audio (mostly capture) also will never have the same quality.
It is a price to pay: Camera and audio quality worse.
Some apps can even do a good job, but difficult to achieve equal quality.
Until the other day I used CM13 and even liked, but needed quality to scan a document on an emergency. I had to restore Stock Backup. I lost the desire to again change the ROM and stayed in Stock. Unfortunately it is a reality.
Some apps can even do a good job, but difficult to achieve equal quality.
One consolation is to use some Xposed Modules and other tools that make Stock ROM ... Less outdated, I would say.

Has anyone come from the OnePlus One and can tell me how the camera on the X compares to it? I don't mind a camera with similar performance to the One, but don't want to take a step down.
Thanks

It's pretty similar and maybe even better. However its my opinion and people might say otherwise.
Oxygen is pretty bad though. I'm just waiting for custom roms

Bump. Anyone come from OPO?
yes, I went from an OPO to iphone to OPX.
The camera app in OPO was definitely better then the OPX (cm11s vs oxygen). If you compare the quality of still photos(when viewed on pc) then I guess they are almost equal quality. But taking pictures was a better experience on OPO mainly because the viewfinder preview was very smooth.
For video recording OPO wins easily in both HD and full HD. slo mo 120 fps was pretty garbage in both phones.
Hi friends...my one plus one camera was not take clear image once zoom the image..its not clear...onlyblur...plzzz help
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
Anyone else make the switch from OPO to OPX that can comment?
i switched from OPO to OPX and by far i'm highly disappoint with stock camera app.
No doubt the quality of OPX is better but video recording have lags, that might be causing of oxygen stock camera app.
i tried to inject opo stock camera app into OPX but installation crashed in between.
hoping official cynogen firmware will come for OPX someday.
OPX stock camera app is crap compared to next camera from OPO
Can somebody upload the camera app from the OPO?
This is the better
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3330357&d=1432526944
The camera is not good, there is problem optimization
have more noise
I own OPO and OPX. I have noticed in may occasions that oneplus x is better in camera quality compared with one. So my vote is for OPX.
Hey guys, I just ordered the phone today and it'll be arriving in not more than a month or so.
I'm curious if Camera quality really is different depending on the ROM because of the libs, framework or IDK, enlighten me.
Question is in the title anyway, thank you!
Google camera HDR+ app on nougat roms. Pretty good HDR pics and great in low light.
someone took the app from google phones and made it usable with phones with snapdragon 820

Heyyo, eh camera quality is kinda subjective... For me? I do prefer Nougat ROMs with the modified google camera as mentioned before.
There is one downside to Nougat ROMs though and that's the camera flash... Sadly the way LeEco implemented the flash via I2C doesn't work well with current nougat ROMs thus it isn't perfectly synched with the camera. So for dark photos with flash? Marshmallow ROMs are still better in that condition. I rarely take photos with flash so I'm not too concerned but just gonna mention it so you know too

Here's a bunch of photos I took with the Google camera mod with HDR+ set to auto as it tends to work best on auto for a balanced shutter speed and quality.
https://goo.gl/photos/zsxYdUGLJGbkBRD28
So yeah, thus far Nougat with the modded google camera works darn good.
Here's the version of it I'm using
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120756004
Like I mentioned previously the only downside to Nougat camera quality is flash synchronization. It's not perfect as LeEco uses I2C and thus far the community developers sadly have not been able to mimic it in custom Nougat ROMs... Sadly LeEco will probably never release the source code for it...
If flash synchronization is extremely important to you? That would be the only reason I'd stick with a Marshmallow ROM.

Damn. Loving the quality of your pics dude. I don't use flash often so it's fine with me. Thanks for all these info and the link. Really helpful
The EUI versions still have a much superior focus but GCam has a incredible better quality on night photos. I swap betwen EUI and RR Nougat from time to time to test new versions for GCam.
Also on Nougat you can enable EIS on all cam apps

Do we have that on Official/Marshmallow based Custom ROMs? And do you have some apps that simulate [email protected] FPS?
AFAIK, no rom has 60 fps with 1080p, even the official MM roms.
In fact, I don't think you can record 60 fps in any resolution, even 720p and below. You do have slow-mo [email protected], looks a bit pixelated though.
P.S.: 4k and 1080p might have artefacts in official roms, noticed that when I got mine a week ago. It's a case of low video bitrate, if you bump up the bitrate (with 3rd party apps)- you can go all the way up to 100mb/s - there's no artefacts.

On the official MM roms, if you pointed the camera at the sky you could notice a lot of artefacts from the compression (low bitrate, around 20 mb/s). Bumping it up to 30 or 40 removed the artifacts
