Hi everyone, as we all know the LG G6 is out and will soon be available to buy. So here in this thread you can talk about anything: Expectations, advices, battery life, user experience...etc. Enjoy :good:
Great. Who's getting one first? lol

I'll be getting one, but only 1) after root is attained and 2) it's been in people's hands long enough to know it WON'T explode! (Note 7 anyone).

LG never had this kind of issues, but it had the bootloop issue for example which is way less serious/dangerous

I am interested in the G6. I think the pricing is going to be a lot more than last years G5 potentially. I am a bit miffed that the UK model won't get wireless charging or the Hi-Fi Dac and only comes in 32gb base storage.
Yeah hi-fi would do it for me. Gui looks decent but need to see it in action.

Yes but this is LGs first attempt at a flagship with non removable battery. So anything is possible.

No so. I have a Verizon LG G2 with wireless charging built in and non removable battery. LG's done this before. Best phone I ever had.

Exactly the G2 had non removable battery, best phone i ever had i regret selling it
Yes. G2 actually is/was one of the best phone I had. And it still has many support here in xda.
I recently bought lg V20 and I feel there is no much difference between g6 and v20. Unless someone can show me otherwise. I think I'll probably wait for v30 or g7.
The new SD 385 really seems tempting, and those battery and performance improvements would really help a lot as I am a power user.

I stand corrected. However, batteries have gotten way more volatile in the last couple years. I don't think it's gonna be an issue with that heat pipe tho. Still, root is needed for sure.

LG phones never had problems with root and similar stuff hope the G6 wont be an exception
I will not buy one for the same reason I did not buy G5 - they removed everything that made G4 stand out:
-curved screen
-volume buttons on the back (seriously, this alone is enough for me not to buy the phone)
-app drawer (please don't say that there are launchers - launchers suck bad and slow down the phone)
-bigger screen (G5 had smaller display, while the size of the phone was pretty much the same as G4)
-I can now add - removable battery
It was always amazing to me how big companies like LG remove features from their devices, then wonder why people do not buy the new version. My G4 works flawlessly and I do not think that the bump in cpu power has any real use for me. So no, thank you. G6 will be a flop.
So when the big launch date? March 10th???

why lg used imx258? 1.12 micron pixel size 1/3.06" sensor is not flagship class.

That's the big question! FCC has had a look, I think:

So maybe sometime soon we'll get an announcement.

Hello all-
Has anyone investigated this? As far as I am aware the OG models had this stripped from the specifications even though the E960 does support it..
Is there any retrofit kit available to enable this on Optimus Gs? On the Nexus 4 is it simply a dedicated battery pack, or would other hardware changes be necessary for an Optimus G?

I took the back off an E960 display at AT&T and didn't realize what those contacts did. Thought it was like my old Dell Streak where it would break the circiut and power off if cover was removed.

Got the G2 on launch day from a Verizon store here in town. Phone is great, no doubt about that. What worries me is that this appears to be a hero phone without much demand. HTC has done a great job of marketing the One, and everyone knows Moto. The G2 on display at the Verizon store is jammed between an iPhone and an older model Samsung something-or-other with no signage other than a huge "Samsung Galaxy" poster on the wall behind it.
If I keep this, it will be the third device in a row that I've bought as a "flagship" which wound up getting the cold shoulder in many ways.
First I had the HTC Incredible, probably the most popular of the bunch. While it did have ROM development, it was quickly forgotten when the HTC EVO came out seemingly a week later. Accessories were few and far between.
Second was the Galaxy Nexus, heralded as a "Google experience" device on Verizon. After endless launch delays, it came out and was quickly forgotten by Verizon and Google both. Accessories were few and far between.
Now I have the LG G2, a great device with awesome specs! I actually don't mind the Verizon/LG "skin" on this so much. But again, Verizon had to **** it up with changing the buttons and making the thing thicker. Accessories will be practically nil for this device other than the three cases from Verizon at launch. There will be countless Chinese imports that will claim to fit but will not, because the back-alley factories making this crap don't give a damn about doing anything per spec. Just make it look vaguely correct and slap a knock off hello-kitty design on the back and call 'er done! "Your Happy Plastic Partner" indeed!
I am also afraid that development will completely stall on this device because everyone will head to the Nexus 5...
Sigh... I should just go trade for an HTC One, I think... I don't know. I am torn.
The moto x isn't selling well (att rep who owns a moto x said he hasn't been able sell a single one) HTC marketing well, are you kidding? They are losing money head over heels even with the one. They only thing with LG is, they have a very small market share they are not Apple or Samsung.

Specs or no specs, anyone I know that has or has tried a MotoX loved it. I think whats killing them is the $199 for a 16GB non-expandable phone, sitting right next to a 32GB Galaxy S4 and HTC One for 149, the LG G2 for 199, etc.
And their goal with that phone WASNT balls to the wall specs....it was supposed to reliable and economical (but again the high price question still applies)
I have used the moto x and can tell you the 720 display and processor really are fine. The software enhancements kick total ass. That being said this phone Absolutely destroys it on every front. I absolutely hate amoled. Way too dim.

This. Everything is fine with the moto x, and I'd still be using it if the battery was decent but lately I've been getting idle drain that I can't figure out. As for amoled, it's great indoors, terrible outside. If LG steps their game up with update frequency I have no problem keeping this phone for a long time. Same goes for the moto x if I was somehow getting the 5+ hours of screen on time per day some people are reporting. Oh, and one grip with lg. Why is there not an option to make the buttons on the bottom like aosp to have the recent apps button and not just the menu...

If the LG G2 dont get rom support and community love i'll be surprised. I say this because its a flagship device from LG and available on all 4 major carriers; just like the htc one, galaxy phones & moto x. We just need a unlocked bootloader.

No, you do NOT want an HTC One. I just sold my One for the G2...the G2 completely destroys the One in every way except for speakers and construction material, which are two minor things IMO since I prefer using headphones and the G2 feels solid/premium even though it's not metal. The One IS a great phone, but not as great as the G2. I really don't care if the G2 isn't bought in mass by the masses because I know I have a great phone and that's all that matters. I will be a little disappointed if there aren't many custom roms, but I'm OK with that because the stock rom is super smooth and customizable, plus I will be less tempted to constantly swap roms if there aren't many available

Actually I think the blame for locked bootloaders falls on the carriers, not the manufacturer. S4 is unlocked but not on VZW, etc.
LG will do whatever VZW tells them (or lets them). But VZW may not care if they really dont think this phone will sell well, or if they arent marketing it very much (which, as we can tell, they are NOT)

They aren't marketing it AT ALL. I've seen some Droid Maxx commercials though and an even recent Moto X commercial but zero for the LG G2.
I really don't understand this move by LG (if correct). They are just killing the G2.
According to a believable source, the Nexus 5 is going to have two variants, while the more expensive one ($399) will have 32GB, and, get this, a 3000mah battery !!
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57606477-94/nexus-5-16gb-version-reportedly-will-sell-for-$299/
Why, on earth, should anyone prefer the G2 under these circumstances ?
We still have several days to ditch our G2, before it loses its value...
My only question is then, why did LG made such a big issue out of the G2, if two months later they are giving almost same hardware for 60% the price...
I doubt that the 32GB version will have a 3000mAh battery.
The N5 16GB was listed for 350$ earlier today in the PlayStore.

It's a subsidized price from Google, not LG. Google will take hit on every hardware sold and make up for it in the long term from play store purchases. This is how the Console industry has been working, PS3 and Xbox were sold at loss, but profit was made out of software.
32 GB G2 will settle for a price around 500$, price of Nexus 5 will stay the same for the life cycle. Also G2 has a better camera, IR blaster, 3000 mAh Battery is still not confirmed for 32 GB model, it is a rumour.
I would still buy G2 over Nexus 5, because stock android sucks.
If the Nexus 5 is going to have a 3000mah varient, the G2 will never have a developer community. In that case I think we should all switch to the Nexus 5, we'll earn money (if we sell the G2 soon), have normal volume/power buttons, and the best developer community one could imagine. What will we be sacrificing ? 0.2 inch in screen size, and several megapixels in camera ? that really doesn't cut it.

Don't get you.... An old article as a proof to rumors?
As someone above posted the Cheaper one will go for 349 dollars. That means for me 349 euro. (even though our retailers will make 549 from it like they always do....)
Here you can get the LG G2 460 euro. If the more expensive of the N5 will be for min 400 more like 449 euro it will be just few Euro difference.
And we still don't know how it will be. If the USB OTG function will not be working again. Lesser camera. Battery. No radio, too many unknowns.
No matter how much you compare it. Maximum the N5 value will match the G2 at least in my country.
For sure not kill it.

The question is why on earth are you still here and trolling? You only post threads to bash the G2. It's like a G2 murdered your family and now you are all pissed at it. Not every country have the low Google prices, not every carrier will get nexus 5. Please just sell your G2 so we can stop having to deal with your whining.
So what if it has 3k battery and 32gb? So does my G2. Really don't understand why that is a game changer even if it is true.

I would take the G2 instead of the Nexus 5 just for the Knock On feature (and the larger screen comes second). I can't believe how useful that feature is to me. I also use the FM Radio and IR remote every day. I also don't want to wait again for months until the Nexus 5 is in stock, etc. I barely got the Nexus 4 three months after release, first waiting for it to be in stock, then finding a reasonably fast and secure way to import it to my country. No thanks.
As for the software, I won't go back to the stock Android limitations like not being able to set different sound volumes for calls and notifications.
Kit Kat 4.4 will be available for the G2 very soon, probably a few weeks from the Nexus 5 launch. But I just don't care anymore what Android version my phone has. The last few versions have been sufficiently good as to not care which one I am running.
I'm wondering if the Nexus 5 has anything to do with the Sprint G2 being delayed a little? Maybe Google told them to kick the Nexus 5 production into high gear, so they don't have the same shortages as every other device launch in the past?

What will we be sacrificing ? 0.2 inch in screen size, and several megapixels in camera ? that really doesn't cut it.

Seriously?
I have now owned the G2 for only 2 weeks and it has been out for nearly 7 months. I have never been more excited about a phone since owning a Note 2...
I have owned 5 devices (Note 2, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Moto G, Optimus G, Galaxy Nexus - in no particular order.) in the past year and none of them have ever gave me the wow factor that the G2 has given. I believe I will own the G2 until it be breaks...
With this year's release of new flagship devices, do you find yourself wanting to upgrade?
The point of this thread is to ask you guys, "do you always upgrade to the next best thing, or do you use your device til it breaks.?"
This is the first time I have felt that a device will suffice for the next few years...

I really haven't been this amazed by a phone that's for sure...Just like you I have owed many phones this one has impressed me in every category.I believe I will keep or try to at least for 2 years.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
I usually keep my smartphone for at least 2 years because that's the time you're usually bound to your carriers contract over here in germany, after that you can get discounts on new phones if you prolong your contract
I wouldn't exactly say i'm a smartphone nerd although i like to play with custom roms and stuff but i was really excited to get the G2.
I had the old galaxy S Plus before the G2 and of course that's a huge difference. But the only thing i really needed the G2 for was the better camera and gaming performance, for everything else the S Plus with CM 10.2 was good enough for me and my wife is still using it.
I guess i'll keep the G2 for at least 2 years because i can hardly find anything i don't like about it except no sd slot and no changeable battery but i don't really need that since i got the 32 GB version and the battery life is good (if you don't play game a lot that is).
Looking forward to the G3, should qualify for a Jump upgrade by the time T-Mobile gets it

Sounds like most of you guys are pretty satisfied with the G2.
?

I'm satisfied with G2 too. Maybe the 1st device I didn't try to root & install custom rom the moment I bought it. I used to be attached to Samsung phones so G2 is the 1st break for me. Well, I'm glad I made the break!
About not changing the phone, well that depends on how LG rolls out updates in future. I might just get fed up & change to other brand if support for update is scarce like now.
Sent from my LG-D802
Tbh the G2 is still the best phone on the market, including the HTC M8 and SGS5. There really is no reason to change unless you simply want to. Nothing that has come out this year is worth any out of pocket expense. Perhaps when the Note 4 is released this fall, then maybe.. if you like Samsung. Even then, I think we have reached a temporary lull in smartphones where anything new is a very, very slight improvement. I wouldn't switch until something blows me away, and nothing so far has.
As crazy as this may sound to some I honestly dont know how anyone can
A) have only one device at a time
B) hang onto to it without at least upgrading to something else after some time.
I bought 5 devices in 2013 all of them outright...still have 3 of them (G2, Note 3, S4)..and so far this year these have my attention:
G3
G flex (if it had sd card support id have it already)
G pro 2
Z2
and thats so far and its not even april yet lol..probably end up with 3 or more new ones this year even though I had wanted to slow down a bit...but whats a guy to do lol?
Theres guys who go through alot more devices than me around here though...u know who you are!

Nope I just like new devices....I get bored easily.
Why limit yourself to one device when its easy enough to have a few?

I also go through phones very quickly but I have never owned more than one at a time. I just enjoy a change every now and then, sold my note 2 for the LG G2 and now I'm looking at selling the LG G2 for a HTC one M8 or just buying the device to use alongside my LG G2 since I'm not sure if i could let this phone go xD.

I don't regret selling my note 2 xD I just miss the 9300Mah battery I had, that thing could last for days even with my heavy usage.

Oooh, so Mother Nature needs a favor?! Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys! Nature started the fight for survival, and now she wants to quit because she’s losing. Well I say ‘hard cheese.’

I hope so because I am not sure my wallet could take me buying the M8 but temptation always get the better of me >.<
Just got a G2 today. Since I immediately installed SlimKat on it, it's pretty much identical to the Nexus 4 its replacing but with a bigger screen and better camera. Progress marches on. Before that I had a One X running AOKP and before that a Motorola Atrix running CM10. As Android gets better, the hardware it's running on seems to matter less and less with each new phone for me... The G2 is nice though. Battery life and the contrastier LCD really swung it for me vs. the Nexus 5. The only thing I don't like is that it looks sorta Samsung-ish... And I have an irrational hatred of Samsung.

I got the G2 a few weeks ago because I dropped my S4 and the screen shattered. I used my son's upgrade, so I can still get the G3 in a few months I'll give him the G2 when it does.
Neither S5 nor M8 is attractive enough for me to upgrade from my G2. The only regret I have, since I just bought it 3 weeks ago is how I missed the buzz of One Plus One. Had I known it earlier, I might will wait for its release before buying this monster. LG did well with this phone and I wonder why the demand for G2 is quite low. It's a well rounded device and cost me less than an S4 here in my country (we don't have carrier contracts here and purchase the phone outright).
This is a very impressive result, good job LG, I'm only wishing that u11 was also in this test but oh well

Thank you! I just sent that to a friend whose LG G4 battery is bad. He's considering the V30, but also mentioned the Note 8 and even iPhone 8 (which I don't understand).

The V30 battery is okay. It's not the best I've seen in a device but it charges so fast, that's hardly an issue for me.
IPhones do generally get good battery life, I've got a 7 Plus as well as my V30. However, it takes forever to charge it. Even using the iPad charger.

I just got rid of an iPhone 7 and it had the worst battery of any phone I've ever owned. It was my first and last iPhone. Glad I'm coming back to Android with the V30

I went through three SE models with logic board issues, 6s with battery recall, 6 that got bent in my purse, 5s that had dead pixels like crazy out of the box. It all got topped off by my 7 Plus having the Intel modem and I got practically no signal... Anywhere!

Sorry for your kinda bad experience with v30, but judging from the videos and articles people share, v30 has the best battery life among the phones that came out this year. Maybe you need to disable or uninstall some battery draining apps

I just found this review today, the first one I saw saying the battery life is a cons
https://www.pcmag.com/review/355846/lg-v30
The 3,300mAh battery is disappointing. We only got 4 hours, 46 minutes of LTE streaming (full-screen video at maximum brightness) on one battery charge, much shorter than with competing phones. The Galaxy S8, for instance, lasts 5 hours and 45 minutes, and we consider that to be merely average. Most new phones will get you around 7 or 8 hours.

Different tests give different results and it could be a device with a bad battery... idk

Hmm [emoji848] that's very surprising. Majority of reviews actually mention how great the battery life is, most say it's way better than note 8 for example. Yet again like you said, different test might have different results. But for me actual mobile phone websites and reviewers are more trustworthy

I'm trying. It's been a while since I've run Android as my daily driver. Each time I come across a suggestion to save battery, I'm changing it. I always got good battery on my Note 3 but it was never stock. For some reason I can't get Facebook to stop pushing notifications, I've got them blocked in the app settings and on the phone. I'm about to delete this crap!

I never ever run FB as an app. I load it up as a page in the browser and then don't let it push browser notifications. Out of all the things on the internet, I trust FB the least.
