The optimus g will probably be my next phone and I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone could answer for me please
1.The last android phone I bought from att(like forever ago) was restricted to where I could not install apk files out of the box. I was wondering if you can install apps from apk files or if att restricted unknown sources.
2. Does usb otg work? It's not a big deal, but I'm still curious on the status of that?
3. How's the battery? I've seen a lot of different reviews with different battery lives.
4. Lastly, how do you like your optimus g?
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
1. yes it works no problem
3. so far battery pretty good
4. so far like it, just hoping for bootloader to be unlocked soon and hopefully CM10 comes to optimus
usb OTG should work for some peripherals... Not sure what the resistance is on this device so like a usb keyboard may not... Usually if MHL works OTG will with some tweaking.

my battery life is abismal, on my second handset. To be honest, the quad core really doesnt equate to much, a little snappier for the user, my s3 was fantastic on battery life, and the camera was better too. I really am not seeing this phone as an upgrade, the only reason i got this device is that it might possibly get a quicker port of the nexus 4 rom, and offer lte.
I just got a day out of mine with 3+ hours of screen time first charge. I know it won't always be that way but so far I'm happy with it. I too had a gs3 and I've noticed a big speed increase on thus phone. I think it was a good upgrade. Better screen as well.

My battery life is abysmal, also! Will probably swap for Note 2 this week! But can install from other sources without any issues.
Will say the screen & CPU are just awesome!
battery was crap for me the first two days. Today it has been good so far. Streaming audio off/on since 7am est.; still at 87%.
Point is that new batteries take time to condition. I'll withhold judgment for now.

LOL, I literally replaced an xperia x10 with a LGOG, last Friday. It's a HUGE jump in performance. First battery cycle was less than idea (~10 hrs of more than moderate use), but after, I turned off a few items that didn't need to be running (e.g., wifi) and set some reasonable parameters on sync frequency, I had 30% battery, last night, before going to bed, after 15 hrs of moderate use.
AT&T gives you 14 days to find out if you like it or not. It takes several charge discharge cycles to get the anode and cathode in the battery all excited and functioning at peak efficiency. You people that rage at poor battery after a couple of days drive me crazy.

Battery is non removable, so if you need a spare, you may need to wait for a charging case like they have for the iPhone.

I have progressed from an international s3 (i9300) to a Google Nexus (which I liked better even though no LTE, Google Wallet made up for that). I just replaced the Nexus, whose power button died, with the Optimus G. If I could get Google Wallet to work it would be the best of the three.
No one has mentioned the feel of the G versus the S3. It feels much more substantial and solid. The quad-core and LTE make it super fast.
Lastly, I am hoping that it will be easy to port the Nexus 4 ROM to the Optimus G leaving me with a Quad-core LTE Nexus 4.

It will depend on the kind of use that you give to the phone and how you administer the use of the Eco Mode, Bluetooth and GPS.
I have it with Facebook, Twitter, 2 Gmail accounts, 1 Exchange account, almost all Google apps installed, watch at least 3 youtube videos (during free time at the office), texting all day long, Twitter, 4g and LTE most of the day, Wifi at home, brightness in 60%, GPS off (Except for Ingress) and I have it in Eco Mode except when I'm playing. Power Saver active at 50% and all that give me from 6am to close to 9pm (depending on the day).
The main things that drains the battery on the device (by my experience) is:
- Brightness over 75%
- GPS
- Bluetooth is a killer
- Camera is another killer
all that without Eco Mode and you will eat the battery in less than 6 hours.
I got some NFC stickers for the house, office and car, helping me enable and disable features along the way during the day and it helps with the battery a lot (only have enabled what's necessary at the right place).
Hope it helps.

I too am leaning very heavily towards the LGOG versus the Nexus 4 (possibly even the HTC One X+). I'm coming from a Dell Streak whose battery has seen it's better days (about 4-5 hours on a full charge). I definitely know I'm in for a treat as far as performance goes no matter which way I go, but I'm wondering how long it will take to get a 4.2 port on the LGOG. As a non-dev, I'm totally clueless on the process, but my thinking is that there can't be many differences between the two.
My main questions is now that it looks like the LTE radio may actually work link for the N4, is the only difference going to be the sd slot? Granted that is a huge + in the OG column, but so is software updates for the N4 if it's going to be a difficult port. I know that this is a new phone and the bootloader was just unlocked, but realistically, what kind of updates from the dev community can we expect for this device?

Agreeing with this post. I have an Inspire 4g as well and my battery lasts for 2 days without charging, and it's the same battery I bought the phone with 3 years ago.
Stop asking about battery life and learn to condition it. You'll save a lot of money.
As far as I know, the LGOG is a FANTASTIC phone.
-overheating issues(you can literally cook eggs on the back of this phone)
-low gaming performance, games stutter a lot, some even run with less than 20FPS(just look at this - twice cheaper phone outperforming m4)
-low available usable storage(under 2GB)
-takes forever to charge(5 hours+ via USB)
-takes forever for the camera to focus
-no way to root it
-no way to unlock the bootloader(apparently now you can)
-overall feels very laggy, unresponsive and slow
+waterproof
+decent camera
If i have to make a conclusion i'd say its the most disappointing phone i ever bought and just suggest to people to avoid it.

Overheating issues? I get a max of 60 degree Celsius, not enough to cook
Gaming and performance issues - Yea.. Sony screwed up with
.99 update
Storage space - I got 3GB free lol. But yea, I feel you.
I can charge faster than 5hrs!
Camera focus is okayish, it outperformed my friend's Mi3 so I'm proud.
Root - Almost there I think
Bootloader - It's unlockable already.
The phone isn't that too bad, just the firmware that screwed the performance. Downgrade the phone and you should get a better experience.
I mostly agree with AndyPhoenix9879
Mine doens't seem to overheat that much even after hours of 3g web browsing ( i dont play games)
Performance is a issue with 2.99 thats why i flashed back 1.100
storage is a problem but after unistalling all bloatware and disabling anything else (that i dont need) i got 2.97GB free
Charging with a 1200mAh wall charger takes no more than 2 hours, if you charge only with computer usb 5 hours is ok, pc usb gives up to 500mah so a 2400mah battery needs 2400/500 almost 5 hours
camera is just ok
root, hope it comes soon and bootloader as AndyPhoenix9879 mentioned is unlocked already.
Overheating is the biggest problem. Using camera make the phone hotter, capture picture is so slow. I'm on plan to buy a second phone while sony M4 let me down day by day.
The problem is not root. Camera with 54-100Mb/s is fast,I push button and no lag. Very good performance with firm.112 35400 in antutu. I play emulators ppsspp,reicast,mupen64 and my phone no is hot. Only when charge by USB and I do hotspot wifi and ftp server and play at same time because no power in USB to charge.
Is there anyway to get otg?
Like by using a powered Otg cable.
Xperia L got otg in a similar method.
.112 is the spanish generic firmware of m4 aqua.are you absolutely sure it doesn't overheat?
Yes, I'm sure. If you want I can do any test. Only hot when charge by usb for many hours. My phone is UK without company, with 112.
Im using newest firmware 2.99 and im not seen lags and times where phone got slow..
Overheating.. Max temp. 80*C, okay..
But bad game performance? No no no, WoTB max settings 30-50 fps, MC5 normally playable, GTA3 Normally playable.. Etc.

25% less to be exact(1500 pixels versus 2000) and costs 50% less(130 euros versus 270) , why can't it be compared?
BTW: My phone seems to get around 29k on antutu on 64bit(just after factory reset), no idea how you are getting 35k.
Downgrade to spanish firm 112 from xperiafirm with flashtool. 35400 in antutu, you will have mass storage option again amera faster and no lag. Y play ppsspp at full speed with tekken soul calibour, shenmue in reicast...
I got this phone to replace my broken s4 for a period of time. I think most of my issues with it can be resolved once root is achieved and an optimized stock OS rom is made.

Well 540x960= 500 000 pixels (approximately) for E4G. For m4 aqua we have 1280x720 which is 921 000 pixels. Almost twice more pixels for M4 Aqua to process. About the antutu result - results around 35000 were achievable with first firmware (.112). With current one more than 30000 is really difficult.
They have two totally different prices. The Snapdragon 615 is an oven, and the only thing they should REALLY improve is the focus speed and video quality.
Hubby brought a couple of these home last night to replace our seriously outdated phones (his was a blackberry that he ruined dropping it into a river, mine is a trusty old Optimus LG One that is still ticking but showing it's age). What I have seen so far
1 - came with 16gb and had 9 free so not too bad there, can upgrade with a card to an extra 128...should do me for a bit
2 - yes it gets quite warm during constant use but not unbearable, cools quickly
3- my wireless router is dieing (sigh..I loved my old DLink DR615!!!)
4 - holy freaking updates! holy bunch of crap bloatware!
5 - no pre-installed games? With all that bloatware you think they would at least have solitaire or something to kill time while updating everything
6 - camera...meh it's a phone, not a high end picture taking device but does fine to capture those spur of the moment happenings, haven't tested video yet
7 - like the display - netflix, crackle, etc all play clearly, very watchable
8. love lollipop plus the Sony overlay - they have incorporated some of the key features I used to have to download seperate apps for like silencing the whole phone with one click, move to sd, flashlight, etc... little things but it makes the overall experience nice.
9 - sound quality is decent for a midrange phone, call quality is great
10 - it's soo much bigger than any other phone I have had! First phone I had that didn't fit in my jean jacket pocket! that could cause some issues as I am very forgetful LOL
In all, no major complaints... once I get my internet connection woes sorted with the router I'll be able to download my larger games and see how it does there. For now I got Frozen Bubble installed so that will tide me over
I quite like the phone, but I'm getting a pretty strange bug - sometimes when I record a video, it comes out as black plus sound. Even in the pc I can't see anything but I can hear the sound. When I reboot, it's back to normal. It happens when I really want to record a video and then I realize that I haven't got anything. Is there anybody with the same problem?

Yeah as it might be the only solution, I can't just always do a test video and then reboot if it is black. The last time I wanted to record my squash match and then after 40min of recording it came out black. Hope they'll fix it with 6.0
Hello G6'ing Canadians!
I noticed the only thread on here relating to Canadian models of the LG G6 on here was specifically for Rogers, so I thought I'd start a more general thread for us.
I'm really liking my (Koodo) LG G6 so far. The screen and size of the phone are amazing, the camera is the top-notch quality I expect, and the battery life has been better than my G5 or G4 before this one... That is until today. I'm running the software version H87310d and just got an OTA update. I noticed that my battery was draining quickly after the update, so I cleared my cache and reset, but it still seems to be draining quickly even when it's just sitting on my desk.
I know this was an issue for some others at launch, but mine has been fine until today. I'll have to see what it's like tomorrow after a full charge, but still a little worried.
Anyone else experiencing this?
What do you guys think of LG's latest?
I just switched to the G6 after returning TWO defective S8+. I like it so far. Camera is a little slow for my liking though.
*Edit* Oh look, just getting an update. V10d.

My battery has been far better since the update. I swear the camera quality has gone up also.
Hi guys, I also have a Koodo Black G6 and got the H87310d update yesterday as well... haven't tested it enough to say it's made a difference yet. So far battery life has been decent, although it seems to slowly be using more and more battery (I'm assuming degradation of the battery capacity, eventually will settle)
What exactly did the update have? this is the only thread so far that I could find on it, so I joined up XDA finally.
The only gripe I have is with wireless charger... it's just do damn slow! I think it's about 2% for 10 minutes of charge. I'm using a Samsung Fast Charge base with the LG fast charger that came with the phone. I tried a Samsung charger from the wife's S5 and was even slower.
I noticed various reports on the wireless charge, some people get fast charge with non-major branded chargers, others get better results than I do with the same charger, etc...

I read somewhere that the update adds "safety features" like your phone telling you if the charging port is wet, but I'm not certain that was for this particular update or not. So, who really knows? At least they're supporting the handset so far.
Regarding wireless charging, mine is super slow, but better than that. I'm using an Aukey wireless pad (not fast charging) and it does about 1% every three minutes. Perhaps their Fast Charging version will work better. I didn't get it because you need to use a fast charging base for it to work and I'm using all of mine already.
I'm going to pickup an Insignia Qi Fast charger at Bestbuy (last day of sale today at $19.99) and see how this works, I don't know if it's maybe the Samsung Qi Pad not supporting Fast charge 3.0 on the LG charger maybe that's causing the slow charging issue... will try and find a Samsung fast charge 2.0 adapter and hook it up to the wireless base and see if that improves the speed.
Seems like my issue was with the Samsung base... I bought the Insignia Qi wireless base, popped it up overnight with the LG Fast charger attached rather than the one that comes with it, and when I was up at 5am the phone was already at 100%.
With the Samsung base I would be lucky to hit 80% with or without a case.
So far I've been loving this phone. I had the G2 and Nexus 5 and the G2 was one of my favorite phones I've owned. The G6 is a fantastic device, fast, and the battery lasts pretty long even with the screen on and gaming. My last few devices have been Nexus phones, and coming from the 6P the main thing i hate about the G6 is the lack of root. I've been so used to getting a new phone, going home and rooting it before doing adding my accounts and apps onto it. I was at the store and i saw they had an amazing deal on the G6, so i did a very quick google search for LG G6 Root, and i saw a few threads about it. I thought NICE! they have root for it already so i pulled the trigger. Got home...and read through the threads to realize they didn't lol. Still like the phone and i'll keep it for a few months and if no root comes out i'll give it to the wife and maybe grab a Pixel 2 when they launch. Overall though if you don't need root, this phone is great!
Yup, just picked up a G6 the other day. It's nice.
The software lacks a few features, and I have to retrain myself to handle it since I was so used to my previous phone and had it all set up just right.
The battery life seems ok, nothing special, but still early days.
I'm also hoping for root, not particularly for custom roms (which would be nice) but mostly to delete some bloat, and maybe customizing the nav bar. On that note:
Can we customize the navbar? Making it a bit smaller would be nice, but particularly changing the icons or something.
And is there a soft lock screen solution that works? Regular solutions don't work on nougat, the time out solutions also don't work (I suspect because of aod) and I use a custom launcher, so no double tap to lock.
Works with Nova Launcher Prime.

Makes sense. Do you use the timeout unlock?
The regular lock version blocks you from unlocking with the fingerprint password.
If I use the stock launcher it works fine, but just like nova, action launcher has a double tap option, and that disabled the stock one.
Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Lock timer > 15 seconds after screen timeout.
I spent very little time on the stock Launcher so never tried many settings or options.

Yeah, I'm on the xda app, so I dont see sign.
I don't think it should matter though, the V20 launched with nougat.
But maybe there is some small hardware difference with, and that makes up the issue.
I can lock by double tapping the status bar, it's just a little.. Sloppy.
So I just bought a G5, updated to oreo yesterday. I used it for one day with nougat, it seemed to charge very quickly on my Aukey Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger, along with some nice usb c cables I have. I also have a nextbit robin, checked Ampere on the Robin and I see 2300ma of charging current. On another generic 5v2a charger, the robin sees 1600ma current.
On either charger, my G5 is topping out at 970ma. Ampere lists the Qualcom Quick Charger as "turbo" speed, and I get a 'fast-charging" notification. But it is definitely taking a lot longer to charge than it should. I tried restarting the phone to no avail.
I guess I should have stayed on nougat, **** me for expecting them to quality control software updates.
It took an hour to go from 5% to 50%, which is definitely not fast charging, as can already be determined from Amperes current reading.
"The LG G5 supports the latest Quick Charge 3.0 standard, but there seems to be a bit of confusion about how it works. It's designed to charge your phone quickly, taking it from 0 up to 80 percent in around 30 or 35 minutes.
I've had my G5 for about six months. The fast-charging worked fine, I downloaded the update yesterday and it's still seems to charge up just as fast as it used to. But my battery life has gone down dramatically even after going through all the new settings and features and optimizing everything. Also my mobile hotspot no longer works. I knew I should have waited but I just couldn't help myself.

I seem to be getting 2-3hours of SOT over the course of a day. Standby drain is fine, it just sucks the battery down when in use for web browsing.
Yesterday the phone seemed to start charging faster again. Ampere still shows only 500-900ma charging rate, but the time estimate to complete charge is now in line with full fast charging.
I didn't run nougat long enough to get an idea of how the battery was before unfortunately.
I also had an incident yesterday where my battery was at 50%, shut down the phone and removed the batttery, upon reinsertion and booting up the phone it dropped to 2% and the phone shut down immediately. wtfbbq
Cant find an OEM battery anywhere, all chinese fakes. LG is sold out for direct purchases, of course. Phones are built to be thrown away these days, such a shame. Was looking at some batteries on amazon and it looks like a crapshoot. At least 20-30% of reviews state that after a few weeks/months the batteries either fail or start holding less charge than the old OEM battery they replaced. Even saw some amazon reviews with pics of exploded batteries that destroyed the G5.

Try using foxfi for hotspot, if the built-in one doesnt work anymore. It costs a couple bucks but its worth it for the USB tethering function. Saves a heck of a lot of battery life vs wifi or bluetooth.
Mine has never been that fast to charge, even with certified QC3 chargers and cables....its not anywhere close to the time they say it does....that is with nougat and oreo, charging speed is about the same for me

I have 1 screen
Would somebody mind linking me a file or source to download the update for h820 (oreo or nougat 7)
Ive had this phone for 3 mths now... I have the at&t version and im not in a region that uses its service so im basically stuck.
So I'm thinking of buying the P6, there's a good deal on amazon for 529€.
So ppl who have used it what do u like about it and what not???
The only real annoyances I've encountered are the fingerprint reader occasionally not reading my fingerprint and the connectivity toggle in Android 12. The latter I fixed by rooting and installing Better Internet Tiles from the Play Store. The former? I deal with it for now, but I do think after taking the July update I'll set my fingerprints up again.
I have some issue with multitasking. Sometimes I can't do a gesture to active multitasking. It's happening twice per day. June update din't solved it. It's really anoying.
TIL...

Most noticable annoyances for me are the slow fingerprint reader, the camera app taking like 5 seconds to switch between photo and video (idk if this happens to other p6s but it made me miss a lot of great shots) and no face unlock.
What's good
- pure Android without bloatware
- very good photos
- Material Me (it is a gimmick but I like it)
- flat screen with deep blacks
What's bad
- charging slow compared to my previous phone (Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra)? Not on par with competition on this criteria
What's neither good neither bad
- fingerprint reader : I don't have any problem, it works as my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra but not as fast as my Galaxy tab S8
- screen brighrness, I have no problem reading it even in sunlight, but I have seen brighter (my Galaxy tab S8)
- battery life. I have 10h SOT, 34h overall. More than enough for one day, but not enough for 2 days
Overall, I like this phone a lot, more than my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra even if it is far cheaper.

Slow charging is probably due to optimized charging being checked. It will slowly charge overnight and will be at 100% just before your alarm is set to go off. At least that's how it's supposed to work. Didn't work on my wife's pixel 6 so we disabled it.

With my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra, I could charge from 0 to 80% in less than 30mn and to 100% in less than 45mn. I am sure there are no Pixel 6 settings that could allow that.
Slow charging? It does 30W USB PD/21W Wireless.. that's roughly 66% in 1h. Sure the Mi Ultra 11 charges at 65W+ but its also a Li-Po battery, while P6 uses the more common Li-Ion. Li-Po batteries have a shorter life-cycle and charging at 65W+ will degrade its life-span even faster.
I plug my phone in for 30mins and I get 30-40% battery which is a more than enough charge to get me through whatever for the day. Though only time I actually ever have needed to plug my phone in to get me through the day is when I play games on it for a while.
The fingerprint reader is slow but it has dramatically improved since release. It was annoyingly slow at launch, now I don't even notice the lag.
Iv'e had some wierd restarts at the start an update fixed the issue and now everything is good
