A9s Freeze when attempting a custom recovery. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I recently tried to root my HTC One A9s and all was successful up until I tried the custom recovery (TWRP) when I enter bootloader and attempt to boot to recovery mode my phone freezes and displays the text "This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action"
Bootloader unlocked, imaged and cache cleared and have I just have this problem, first time running into this i let the battery die and attempted to yet again enter recovery mode only this time showing "Software status: Modified" not "Official" and I also have some "<Orange State>" if that's anything to worry about?
Thank you in advance.

I don't have any experience with the A9s, but I've ran into this before with HTC OneX. Are you s-on or s-off? Also, are you sure the recovery you flashed was meant for this device? (I ran into this when I accidentally flashed HTC One recovery on HTC OneX.)

S-On, and I used qbking's HTC One root guide.

S-On, and I'm sure it is because I used the same guide I used for my One Mini 2.

Any issue with this? or should I try the HTCDEV unlock method again? I was unlocked but not sure when it went back to locked. Had to be during flashing something I guess. Thanks Hboot is 1.15

No. That text is irrelevant if you're S-OFF. However I do recommend you flash back to the LazyPanda 1.22.2222 HBOOT, either on the unlimited.io site directly, or using the RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer. That'll allow you to fastboot flash through the bootloader again.

Yes. If you flash the one from the LP site, the banner will say
--LazyPanda--
If you use the Bootloader Customizer, you can make it say whatever you want .

Is it possible to S-OFF on jellybean w/ latest stock kernel but HBOOT 1.19?

I flashed the latest stock kernel (option 2) for jellybean and when I tried to RUU my phone, it always fail (I think code 43 doesn't recognize version).
I thought about downgrading the kernel but I saw that people say it would result in a brick.
are there any methods that works with the latest stock kernel to RUU or better yet to S-OFF?

yes, you can get S-off with hboot 1.19 by going here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964309
please hit the thanks button if this helps you
That is actually the method that I tried to use but it doesn't work because I cannot flash RUU due to my kernel version

What is this option 2 you used? Power off your phone and then boot into bootloader. What hboot version do you have?
You can change kernel at any time, if u have a jb rom changing kernel will cause ur rom to stop booting,

The zip that I flashed contains not only the kernel but also the recovery, I heard people saying downgrading would result in a brick

Rooting help

I really need help!! I got this phone for free to replace htc tbolt. I managed to unlock it, but having issues pushing recovery to phone with adb. Adb does recognize my phone. Even tried with a PB98IMG.zip on hboot, but I get failed older. Maybe my path for adb are not right. I've been trying since Saturday with no luck. If I can install a custom recovery, then proceed to rooting and getting s-off. This is my software version.

So you have unlocked the bootloader through HTCdev.com correct?
And are you using the Rezound All-In-One Toolkit? Hasoon recently updated to 3.0. If It keep failing, try using the previous version (I believe I did it with V2.1)

PH98IMG.zip not PB
edit: didn't read you have a mainver problem then.. try edit2: eh you don't have recovery yet either.
if you got it to unlock you should be able to flash a recovery from fastboot ...
get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23781936&postcount=428 the img from there and
then navigate to fastboot like how you unlocked and
"fastboot flash recovery recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm.img"
here is a mainver fix for when you have recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23169557&postcount=4 in case you need it later
keep us updated I just now saw your pm... maybe we all can help you out
I finally figured out to finally root and install recovery. The other question is how do I return it back to stock ICS with s-on? I have to return it back do to poor bluetooth sound quality. People are telling me that it is very scratchy and can't understand me. I even tried a wired head set and sounds like I'm in cave. I was having trouble rooting do to that I was not creating a right path to adb to flash recovery. I installed twrp. To bad I have to return it back. At least I learned a little about adb. My gnex is way easier to root. This guys.

Does anybody have the stock ICS kernel that is flashable through recovery. Just in case I want to revert back to stock rom. I'm planning on using htcdumlock.

[Q] Help With Base ROM, Please

I need to return my EVO LTE to get another replacement, but I need the base ROM so I can flash it back to stock. Unfortunately, I can't gain access to the NANDROID backup I made of the base ROM before flashing the Viper ROM that I'm currently using. If someone would kindly post the base ROM that's compatible for my phone's build, I would be highly appreciative. Here's my phone's info:

Viperboy made a RUU tool that you can find at the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197909
If you are S-Off, you can use the viper RUU tool to go back to completely stock.

Or, as another solution, you can always flash the stock rooted rom, and remove superuser, thereby unrooting it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045935
Just be sure to relock the bootloader. But your best option would be to go S-Off, run VipeRUU, and use a mod to change the bootloader information that's displayed when you boot into the bootloader.

VipeRUU will put the phone back completely stock, locked bootloader and all. No need to use a mod like regaw's bootloader customizer to change the bootloader info.

Thanks, guys. My phone is still S-on. I'm really not concerned with relocking the bootloader since NO ONE ever checks for that stuff based on past experiences.

Well, as I suggested earlier, flash the stock rooted rom and remove SU permissions via the SU app.

[Q] HTC One M8 rooted stuck on endless loop after downloading Multirom

My phone is an HTC One M8 running Android Revolution HD and TWRP Recovery. I recently downloaded Multirom thinking that I could hold multiple roms just by downloading the app. The app told me to reboot into Recovery mode to finish installation, and I rebooted into recovery. The only roms that were available to boot in was Internal so I just chose that. Turns out Internal will always get me stuck into the htcONE boot screen even after 1 day of waiting. If I try to go into bootloader mode and go into factory reset, it brings me back to the MultiROM menu everytime. I cannot even access the phone from the computer to edit the files. Please help, thanks!
@sangothemango
When you say when you try booting into bootloader do you mean your recovery as far as doing a factory reset?
Try power+volume-up till it goes dark and as soon as it goes dark just hold volume-down till the actual hboot/bootloader comes up.

If you can get the above example type of screen to come up than you can save your device. Hopefully your familiar with adb/fastboot cause that's what's going to fix it.
Unless you already have S-OFF ?
Yes I can get into that screen, but if I choose anything, it says going into recovery mode and then nothing happens.
