It's only the my knox app that will no longer be available.
It has changed to secure folder for new 2017 devices. It still does the same thing and there is still knox 0x0 status.

Knox should be optional as some people don't want or need it. I don't want or need it but yet I don't want to void my warranty.

Agreed! I must admit the idea of this secure folder is great as you can add clones of apps and certain things. It's good however I do not use it.

Boycott Samsung over KNOX!

Hi,
Here's a unique idea.
Let's pass the word to boycott Samsung over the whole KNOX fiasco.
Use social media, ie. twitter, facebook, etc. to pass the word.
Tell everyone you know not to buy a Samsung phone this holiday season.
The only thing that will make companies take notice is if we take action.
1. Just the attempt to downgrade firmware or load unauthorized firmware triggers KNOX in 4.3 and voids your warranty.
2. Now that's not bad enough, because even if you now load a signed piece of firmware KNOX still stays triggered.
3. If my warranty is now void, I should be able to do what I want, but nooooo, my bootloader is still locked and I have no warranty.
So Samsung should fix this. Just trying to do something should not void my warranty, especially since they block the possibility of being able to change the bootloader.
This is not Samsung's device.
Everyone does not need nor want KNOX and those that need it, know it.
The majority of devices are not enterprise, so why are they forcing an enterprise and NSA solution down our throats!
BOYCOTT SAMSUNG!!!

For your #1, how did you load unauthorized firmware?
I don't understand your #2...what "piece of firmware"?
How do you know it voids your warranty? Did you have issues with the warranty?

I really doubt something like this would work. The only people on board would be those of us who mod, which make up such a small portion of Samsung's sales, they wouldn't care. The general consumer is where they get their money and said general consumer couldn't care less about Knox.

Samsung sold 213 million phones in 2012.
Two things...
1) Though XDA and all seems huge, only a really really small percentage of cell phone users play around with crap that will effect knox. I doubt a large number of those "don't care" people are going to want join your campaign.
2) There are a lot of great things about Samsung phones and products. It's like people complaining about VZW cost and billing and marketing, but they have great coverage and I'd never switch because someone starts a "boycot Verizon for $$ reasons".
I don't like the S4 lockdown either, but I'd rather have a locked S4 than an unlocked G2.

Not sure I'd agree with this. At the same time o hate Samsung, I'd have a Motorola phone if I wouldn't have had to upgrade when I did. Kind of screwed me.

Yea ik. Exactly why I put "at the same time I hate Samsung" so I'm kind of biased
They can make lock downs most of this is to stop forms of piracy in my opinion. I'm new to rooting but I'm from the modding scene. I have no worries do to developers here as I do on game system modding. Give them time nintendo,Sony and Microsoft have done similiar things with updates the push regularly to their gaming consoles and boycoting will not work do to the modding group is a small group that has a small impact they already planned on loosing.

Boycott yourself, this would defeat the purpose of "DEVELOPER" phones...you knew what you were getting into when buying a consumer s4.
When will people think logically? Samsung wants security. They sell the developer phones completely unlocked for US.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Knox is high security put on the phone as a bid to gain military contracts. They only want the most secure phones. Do you think Samsung will stop trying to get that military high $$$ over a few people saying they won't buy anymore? Also add to this many corporate businesses that buy bulk phones and contracts and want a more secure phone for their Exchange and corporate software. XDA users are barely a ripple in that ocean of waves.
you should have bought a developer edition if locked bootloader was a concern.

Umm...yeah...because the international versions are not locked...neither is Sprint...it is a carrier request to lock bootloaders on Samsung phones, otherwise all phones would be locked. Locked bootloaders and Knox are not the same thing. This thread states it is about Knox. True that Knox in the bootloader prevents you from downgrading the firmware...but does not equal locked. There are many phones with locked bootloaders but no Knox.

It's not just about a locked bootloader.
If that was all, no issues.
KNOX and SE Linux are now baked in from the bootloader up.
No it was not on my phone when I first got my phone and was not detailed before they rolled it out.
Messing with the bootloader in anyway even an attempted downgrade, void your warranty.
Not tampering by using unauthorized software, but just trying to go to an older version of *SIGNED* firmware will void your warranty.
My issue is this, if my warranty is now void, why can't I install any *SIGNED* firmware that came on the phone?

[Q] Tripping Knox Ramifications?

I understand that rooting the S5 will trip Knox and void the warranty. To weigh the benefits and liabilities of rooting at this time it would be good to know what other apps or functions would be sacrificed. So I guess my question is;
What exactly will rooting and tripping Knox "break"?

So far I heard it breaks Private mode because it may be linked to KNOX. Some one also confirmed that Paypal verification still worked thou. I read this somewhere in the international thread.

Does anyone know what is the meaning of tripped Knox in relation to the Jump warranty plan? I know that there are different speculations but I'm wondering if anyone knows or saw any terms and conditions related to that... (tripped Knox = void of the Jump plan?)
Thanks.

Do they even check that? I traded in today and the person just turned the screen on to check that it worked, glanced at the outside for cosmetic damage and ran the IMEI.
I can guarantee you T-Mobile or Samsung has a way to clear the Knox flag, otherwise how will they refurbish phones for resale?
I confirmed with a T-Mobile employee that they don't check for a tripped KNOX on the jump plan; they only check that the serial number is correct, that it works, and that it doesn't have any water damage or a cracked screen.
And I read somewhere earlier that someone had received a refurbished phone from T-Mobile that already had knox tripped, I want to say it was a N3.. so maybe they don't have a method of reversing it?? (if I can find the source in my history I will update my post)

I'm finding that particular feature (Private Mode) quite useful so unless someone creates a ROM with a working private mode I'll have to hold off rooting. Some files are just not meant for prying eye...:cyclops:
My only issue with private mode is that it uses built in memory. Still it's a ton better than security apps I've tried in the past.

Adguard ad block

One of the things I missed about my previous phone being rooted was the ability to block ads. I don't want to root my s6 as of yet, however I found adguard and am trying the premium trial version. It does a great job blocking ads within apps and browsers without rooting. I think however there is a slight reduction in internet speed. Let me know what you think.

This.
Too many things that are staple requirements for me to not have root.
This is why I don't buy phones with locked bootloaders.
I suppose eventually an exploit can be found to root only.
But phones get outdated quickly. The clock is ticking!
Waiting months for an exploit is unacceptable.
Might as well be on iOS waiting for 8.3 jailbreak. LOL
I was rooted within 10 minutes of getting the phone out of the box so I do agree with that sentiment. On the other hand some people don't want to or cant for whatever reason so threads like this have their place. I would say let them discuss without beating the drum.
Yeah, don't care much for Samsung Pay. I have a Loopay and don't even use it. Google Wallet NFC and my AMEX is a good combo.

[Q] Does rooting the S6/e cause you to lose Samsung pay and is it worth it?

I've rooted every device I've owned but now I'm curious if the reports are true that rooting compromises the Samsung pay feature. So my questions to you are
1. Has your Samsung pay been affected
2. If so is it a big deal to you (Ie you don't really care about mobile payments)
3. Overall was rooting worth it on the S6?
Thanks all

Samsung pay has not been released yet, so no one can answer that question correctly now
why the F i cant use samsung pay now ?
maybe it' just a lie to sell more S6 Edge phones?

How is it a lie? Samsung have never advertised Samsung Pay as a selling point for the S6. I rather them take their time to secure deals with all major banks and credit cards then send out a half baked system like Apple pay that works almost no where.
Excuse my noob question but :
I know you'd loose Samsung Pay & KNOX
1) Would you loose anything else by CF Rooting the edge ?
2) Whenever Samsung Pay will be released, can't you just UNroot the edge by flashing a stock ROM ? Would you loose your data UNrooting this way and would you get back Samsung Pay and KNOX ??
10x
As Samsung Pay isn't out no one is truly sure. It may/may not work with root. The assumption right now is it will not work at all if you've tripped your Knox flag. I held off on rooting because I wanted to try out Samsung Pay when released. Now that there's a root method out there that doesn't trip Knox, I rooted. At this point, I'm going to figure this won't hurt my chances of using Samsung Pay since Knox isn't tripped. If SP doesn't work with root either, well I can very easily Odin back to stock firmware.
There is a root method out that doesn't trip knox. You guys might want to check that out

rooting moderns sammy devices runs the risk of exactly this. i still dont get why people root anymore? its so unnecessary anymore these days
Because in pakistan duty of mobiles r higher then the mobile actual price. So if someone import mobile from other country then must have to root to use in pakistan
Try custom rom, my G965F with LightROM connects and restore from samsung account just fine. Samsung health works too. Additionally, I had 2 SIM and 1 SDCard trick work. Sadly, samsung pass is never gonna work again after first root.
I had the same problem, give Soldier ROM a try.

racism and other aggressive posts is not what this forum is about in my personal opinion. I remember back in the day when there was some elite-ism going on from the people who thought that every person who (on their first day on the site) should know every acronym by heart and know how to use the (at the time, VERY broken search tools) to find out how to do the x-y-z thing theyre trying to do. Luckily, that seems to have subsided greatly and people are generally very helpful. Thats why i love this forum, its people just helping people usually.
