I had tried every possible setting on my router to increase the signal strength on the razr but none worked......however surprisingly and inexplicably when I changed the placement of my router and kept it on the floor i.e. around 6ft below the razr, the wifi signal suddenly jumped....hence I took this idea a little further and after some experimentation I saw that placing the router a few feet below the razr actually dramatically improves the reception even if you are at a significant distance away from the router and my problem is solved...
Just thought I should share this bit of information as it might help all those who are facing wifi reception issues with the razr

i tried everything...changing the security, switching wireless "N" Off...every possible thing but the signal strength just dint improve...and it was the same at home and office with diff routers...
Great tip JainB, thanks.
This problem before OTA or after ?
-Try with another router.
OR-
-Dont touch the device and look the signal strength during the contacting.
What is difference between touch and non touch.

Diff between touch and non touch is generally 1 bar...Tried with Two Diff routers at home and office with no difference in signal strength...Elevation change worked like a charm giving me more signal strength than my BB Torch...

So i notice that my ultra usually shows 2 bars of wifi. it goes up to 3 and then drops down to 2, even though my router is in the same room.
My laptop has shows full wifi strength and even my wife's iPhone shows full wifi bars.
should i be concerned?

download an app from the playstore, and see what signal strength you are actually getting. It may just not be displaying the two bars.
However I do find that my wifi only works 13-15m away Max. Disappointing as my old Galaxy Note has better reception.
Sadly Sony only included a/b/g/n **but not ac** with their wifi modem...

i downloaded wifi analyser.
i am testing the signal strength on the app. the phone shows 3 bars of wifi and the app shows the signal in green (strong).
so not sure what this means lol
I don't like when I connect to my 5Ghz router speed. It's kind of weird guys...feels like delay/slow. And my regular 2.4Ghz is perfectly fast.
Are you using a CM/AOKP based Rom or stock?
I and others have noticed significantly worse wifi reception vs stock.

CM10 based ROM's for the Ultra have a problem reporting/ displaying signal status.

Even for wifi signal? Thought it only affected cellular signal being stuck at 2 bars?
I found that it frequently disconnected and reconnected, with no reception in some areas that would be fine in stock and instead resorting to cellular data. Also when the screen was off it was frequently running off cellular data more often than not.

so do you guys get full signal bars for your wifi when near your router? maybe in the next room from the router?
i am thinking my ultra's wifi may be defective. my router is in the next room and all other devices show full wifi strength but the ultra shows 2 bars
Yes full bars usually in all parts of my house (up stairs and down stairs) for wifi (router upstairs)
Have you tried doing a phone repair through pc companion and updating the firmware?
i actually did repair the software and update.
Same results.
Can't say i've noticed any WiFi issues. I have full bars, and i live in a two story concrete apartment and i have a signal all over the place, and on top of that the router is quite ****ty. I'm on .257.

well its not only the wifi. today i was out and tried using the navigation app for turn by turn directions. the gps picks up my location when standing still but while moving the gps doesn't keep up. it shows me at the same location i was 5 mins ago.
i think the radios are messed up on this phone.
My GPS was very accurate. google maps and 'backcountry navigator' worked very well. HSPA+ was pretty good. signal was strong (about the same as my Galaxy S4) wifi wasn't as good as my S4.

Hmm, have you tried doing a full factory reset, or any other things? If not, do that, and if it's still not working correctly then send it in to a service center. Also, do you have the chance to try a different router, or WiFi network? The thing is to see if it's a software issue or hardware.
Hmmm...you know what? Most times I really do not care how many bars of wifi signal is displayed, but how fast the connection is. Travelling through the different locations and using hotel wifis usualy shows me 2-3 bars, but speed is very appropriate and connection stable. So maybe just this perfectionist detail is awaring you. If connection and speed of wifi was poor or permanently on the way of disconnect, that would be a problem for me...
I've had no issues with Wifi performance on the Z Ultra, I'm in the room next to the router and currently showing full bars. (Draytek 2710n)

Same here, no issues with any radio signals on the phone. If I need Wi-Fi, I always connect to 2.4Ghz for added range since I rarely need to transfer large files. Otherwise with regards to transfer speeds and signal strength, it's easily on par with other wireless devices at any range.
I cant connect to the WiFi network... In poor signals..
But i can connect normally when the signal is rich...
I can't find solutions...
When i try to connect poor wifi signals (might be signal is average)
The router shows """connecting""" and """saved""":crying:
I had changed my modem.....
Changed my rom
Nothing cures my wifi issue... Pls help me....:crying::crying:
I can use same Wi-Fi in othet devices... But my s3 can't connect to that... Im so tried... Please help me...
well if you changed your router and flashed other roms and it still wont work properly it seems to me that its a hardware thing mate

Oh then wat is the solution??
So I am on t-mobile, and I also have one of the routers provided to me by t-mobile (I believe it's an Asus) , and I have noticed recently that my wifi calling has been sucking big time. It cuts in and out and says I need to connect to a wifi network, when I am connected. It's like it doesn't notice that there is a wifi connection. Anyone have suggestions as to what might help?

WiFi calling on Android is hit and miss. I wish it was as stable as Blackberry UMA calling.
I tried the old turn it on and off again on the modem and router and it seems to have helped quite a bit.
Unfortunately, I have this issue for a quite while. Funny thing wifi calling works smoothly on pixel or essential phone!
How old is the router?
The router's WiFi radio maybe showing its age by being intermittent with its throughput's strength and/or signal's strength.
Try with newer router or access point. If there is a coffee shop with very good throughput strength (this is most important) you can do a test with that hotspot.
I just got lg v30 thought it was a good deal. everything is fine but it has one big problem . the wifi disconnect all the time especially while downloading. when this happens I can see the cell signal along with the wifi disappears from the status bar and the phone start searching for signal.
I tried everything I could. like a full factory reset.
I also downgraded from android 8 to 7
so Is it a hardware Issue?
I had a similar problem but only with WiFi. I don't think these phones have a reach on WiFi if you are a good distance from the router I believe this is your problem. My solution I set up a WiFi tether with my laptop connected to the router so the source is closer that solved my issue

Also, try setting for 2.4GHz only. It travels further than 5GGz and it's more stable.
