Dear community,
Firstly I really hope this is the right place to ask that and somebody could help me.
There is a big problem with my brothers S6 Edge (SM-G925F)
Situation: The phone has no battery inside and the connectors of the battery are broken too, what means it would be hard to change the battery...
My brother needs the data from internal storage, but without battery only the download mode is working, normal startup (even with TWRP ROM) won't work.
Is there a way to extract the internal data? Maybe with fastboot / heimdall / odin / jodin? A custom rom for transfer data only using download mode? A possibility to boot into the phone without battery?
I really need your help and would be glad about your helpful posts!

Can you boot to TWRP? I'm guessing not without battery?
Download mode doesn't do much apart from flashing software with Odin.
Does anything happen when phone plugs Into pc?
You really need TWRP to use any MTP/OTG adb transfer.
What data does he need? Did he have sync on in google/Samsung account and Google photos?

The only thing happens when I plug the phone via usb into pc is that the phone shows the loading icon...
Cannot boot into TWRP without battery, the phone is restarting permanently while trying..
He especially needs the contacts saved on internal storage (not at the SIM or SD...).
He did'nt sync somewhere..

If you can't connect your mobile to the PC it will be so hard look for backup!
But... I am thinking that...
Maybe you can flash a new ROM...
if you can go in DOWLOAD MODE...
but i suppose that your settings, as the password, will remain active... maybe a modded ROM.

Humm.. Phone is detected in device manager as Samsung USB composite and Modem device but Kies (2.1.0.11112_41) reports connection locked error. M wondering if there is another tool/driver that can allow to either unlock device from computer or get access to file system on phone. Kindly advise..

i also managed to break my gs2 screen today. ive taken it to vodafone however they claim that for data protection they have to wipe all data on the phone if you have found a solution i beg you to get in touch.
simple method:
1.put the phone in download mode
2.download the tar file of a custom kernel(like siyah) which can mount your storage from cwm.
3.flash the file via odin and enter cwm.(press the key combo to enter cwm)
4.now ask some other users who use the same kernel to tell you the number of key press needed(and in which direction) to mount your sd card.
5. now your internal sd will show up in pc.
6. backup all the data now.
you can also backup all your apps +data using step 4
replace it yourself, it is dead easy...google youtube for an instruction video (did replace my daughters SGS2 broken screen in under half an hour)
hello My Samsung Galaxy SII has a broken display and i need to connect it up to retrieve key data but it won`t connect to kies...is there any way that i can?
Display is black. Phone is working ok
Can you help me? :crying:
You should be able to pull your stuff with ADB. Google and/or XDA search should yield you plenty of tutorials/how-to's on using ADB.
Edit - Provided you had debugging turned on prior to the display being broken.
Greetings,
My son has a Galaxy s2 running stock 2.3 which he bought in Singapore over a year ago, I think. He states that it has not been rooted. Over the last several weeks he has been getting the 'kernal panic upload mode' screen when the battery was getting low. Last week it became permenant regardless of the battery level. Yesterday I was able to talk him through entering recovery mode. He wiped the partition cache and rebooted with no apparent effect. A picture of the recovery mode screen idicates that the system was unable to mount /data (unknown error: 0). But it did show media files were copied succesfully. ... I've attached a picture of the screen. The phone is no longer recognized in Win7.
My basic question. How might we rescue the pictures and some text from the phone before redoing the os?
TIA,
Kim
Kim, flash siyah v5 and try cwm.
Also drill your son on what is that he did exactly, cause he must have done something.

I had thought that if all else failed I would have him use Odin to re-apply his existing os. My thinking was that the file and partition structure would be close enough to what's there to allow normal usb connection and to d/l his pics and what not. Then I'd get him to install something with a little more support for recovery and snooping about. Decent enhancements!!
I don't know what he did other than I think he might have overloaded the little beast with too many apps constantly calling home on an older os. But, that's just a guess. Thanks for the upgrade suggestions. I'm only starting to research that aspect. I suspect that going direct to the better burns will be the way we'll end up going.
Be well,
Kim
Siyah is a custom kernel, no danger regarding existing data.
By flashing it you'll be able to access a temp recovery called clockwork mode.

Greetings gastonw,
My son's getting the usb drivers from the Samsung site for the i9100. I found the tar Siyah-s2-v5.0.1.tar for Odin.
Odin3 version is 3.04. Don't know what else I need.
I'm going to be doing this long distance and I've not handled a smart phone personally so ...
1. Start the phone in download mode.
2. Connect phone to computer
3. Start Odin (making sure that Kies is not running), Odin should recognize the phone.
4. Load the tar in the pda section
5. check automatic reboot, and start.
6. I presume that I will know when it's done because odin will report success or finished, and the phone will boot.
To grab the data off this phone do we use the recovery mode or will it now be called clockwork mode?
At which point I presume we shut the phone down and do a normal start/boot.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for your help. Reading the specs on the Siya work I'm almost tempted
to go get a phone for myself.
Be well,
Kim
Lol, that's awesome, your playing by the book
Custom recovery will become CWM instead of stock recovery.
And go ahead and get yourself a new phone, you're in for a hell of a ride.

Thank!! My son called and said the usb still doesn't work. Hum .... I hope not, but I may be back to see if there's a way to transfer something from an sd card in order to save the data. On the flip side ...
Kim
Odin doesn't see his device or the pc calls it "unknown device"?
Can he get it to boot, he can use airdroid app or dropbox to transfer over wifi.
The custom kernel is just to get rid of that pabic message.

Mornin' gastonw,
Well, as of a couple of minutes ago, win7 did not recognize the phone. Hopefully with a reinstallation of the Samsung specific usb drivers win7 and/or Odin will recognize the phone.
Interesting. When he booted into download mode the top of the screen said something like, 'Odin download mode'. Does this indicate that it might be rooted? To the best of my knowledge he was unaware of the three button boot loader mode and hence would not have changed the phone from the basic generic non-branded phone that he bought. Just wondering. If it is rooted is there a way to manually do, via the recovery mode, what Odin will be doing? It seems to me that if recovery allows to d/l from the sd card there must be a destination to be designated. I have no idea what the drive and directory layout is, and I'm a tad rusty on linix shell commands, don't even know what shell android uses. But, if I knew where the package had to go ... .
I'll write again when I know more.
Thanks again,
Kim
Well the last I heard is that no USB *and* it's probably a win7 problem!!!! Good golly miss molly!
Anyway, snooping about I found a thread [howto] which indicated that putting a clock work mod zip on an sd and d/ling it thru the recovery mode would install the clock work mod recovery boot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814801
Now I can not find a further reference to a zip with the name format used in this post. However at the modclockwork site I do find two
http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager. One is for 'touch'. I don't know the difference between the two. But, am I understanding correctly that I can put the appropriate zip on an sd from which I can d/l thru the standard recovery mode which on restart I presume will give me access to cmw recovery mode? Seems to easy. LOL!!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Kim

Hi all, it's my first post here
My Galaxy S II (stock ROM/recovery) has fallen into a reboot loop while I was texting and I'm positive I didn't install new apps recently, so I can't really tell it's an app bug. Last thing I did before texting was disabling Swype.
All I know is that TouchWiz now crashes after boot displaying its usual dialog window.
In addition to that, I've just broken the display, so I can't see anything going on screen...
How can I recover pictures from the internal storage? How can I stop the reboot loop long enough to back up everything with Kies?
I've tried booting in safe mode but the phone keeps on rebooting and I have no visual feedback of successful activation of safe mode. Prior to breaking the screen I could access the stock recovery, so I guess I can still do it, if needed.
TIA,
Andrea
Recovery should be enough if it works. So try getting into recovery and connecting it via ADB. Then you can get data with "adb pull <location-on-phone>"

Thank you for your reply!
When you say "recovery", you mean stock recovery or a more advanced one (CWM, etc.)?
I've never used ADB, I'll try to set it up as per these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
EDIT: Do I need to enable debugging on the phone? It's currently disabled and I can't do anything about it because of the reboot loop...
don't know
I don't think that it's possible to recover the data on your device's internal storage now. Rest if anything works do post your experience here with respective procedure or snapshots.

Oh crap ... yes, i think you need to have debugging ON (never actually tried without it). Well, you can still check it. So set up ADB (hope those instructions are good, I can't help you there as I don't know how things work on Mac) and type in "adb devices". If everything's OK, you should get one device listed (some weird number). Then type in "adb pull <location on phone> <location on computer (optionally)>. If you want more info about commands, just type "adb" and you'll get everything listed. That should be it ... if it works in first place :fingers-crossed:
EDIT: Stock recovery should do fine.

Yeah, I've tried with another (working) S II and it seems you really need debugging turned on...
Is it possibile to use a custom recovery to copy data from internal memory to the SD? I could try to do it blindfolded :cyclops:

Possible ... maybe. But that would mean you need a recovery with file manager - and file managers are usually touch-based. So you can't do much if your screen is broken. I suggested ADB because it was the only option that would work for sure and you don't need screen for it ...
But ... maybe there still is a way ... You could try reinstalling ROM via ODIN and syncing with Kies. Download stock ROM for your country and carrier from www.sammobile.com/firmwares, get your phone into download mode and insatall via Odin. This should work. You're not doing any factory resets, wipes or anything - just "dirty flashing" the ROM over existing one, so data and (most) apps remain untouched. Then you can try connecting with Kies. From there I don't know exactly how stuff works (don't have a Samsung device), but hope it can launch without touching anything on the phone.
I suggest removing the SIM card before trying, so it doesn't get stuck on PIN unlock screen.
This is really your last chance ...
Your next option is changing the screen
Good luck

You're right but, if I'm not mistaken, CWM "touch" file manager can also be used with the physical buttons. I've never tried that, can anybody please confirm?

That's actually an excellent idea! Now, I only need to be sure that, after re-flashing, the device will be immeditely accessible by Kies straight after boot without further intervention...

So just to confirm : Did you try the following: Recovery > Mounts > Mount USB Storage
yes,I tried it but no device is being showned at the pc
Almost same but more severe problem here.
I installed Performance ROM. But there was some problem with it. It was unable to mount storage to PC and many time it showed "USB Device not recognized. So I installed a Multi-mount USB storage and used it. It mounted my phone's storage that day but, the other day, the problem got bigger. When I connect my phone, it showed nothing. No warning or error message at all! THe phone was just charging, that's all! Still today I'm facing this problem. But today I tried to change the ROM by copying files via Wi-Fi. I installed Experimental kernel v12 and Stock based Proted JB .100 firmware ZIP. Installed it by wiping everything but still the problem's same. Please fix. My PC isn't showing anything! Neither any notification nor any error message on connection. I also tried to change the mode from USB MTP to MSC and PTP, still no result. :crying::crying:
Ok, have you tried other means of getting the data on the sd card? Perhaps you can use a sd card reader or another phone to connect it to the PC and copy the files onto that.
Insert the sd card back to ur phone and then in recovery flash the new files...

That's ridiculous! I mean to say that Sony Xperia U don't have SD card. So no option except if you've an OS, you can copy files over Wi-fi but if you don't have OS and a non-working USB slot, you can do nothing except sending it to Xperia Service Center. That's whit I did and it'll take approx 15 days for them to "FIND" and "FIX" the problem even after my explanation on what I did.....

Today I got my phone back from Xperia Care. They said that to change the USB we need to change the Motherboard and it'll cost INR 5000 (This is 40% of total cost of brand new phone). Is that right to spend so much money?

Ya you're right! But I need to sell this phone first and who will buy this BOX?? It doesn't have any OS installed and USB doesn't works.
Hey XDA folks,
I broke my Nexus 4 when I was drunk last Friday. A friend of mine gave me her old SGS2 but the Korean version of it (SHW-M250S). It's running Gingerbread at the moment. I have read some guides to change it to I9100, but the problem is, that I can't get the USB data connection to work. It is charging, but Windows (8.1) keeps telling me that it can't recognize the USB device. It's also not recognized in Download mode... I've installed Kies before, but no improvement. Odin also doesn't recognize it... Also Ubuntu with lsusb command didn't show anything. When I look closer at the usb port, it looks like the two outer pins are broken, which is probably the reason why the data connection is not working.
So my question:
Is there any possibility to upgrade the phone without working usb connection? Custom roms are more than welcome.
If not... does anybody know how much it costs to replace the touch screen of my Nexus 4 in Korea?
Thanks a lot!
Hi sac_k so far as I read you were not 100% drunk away from the world cause else your nexus4 was now in the middle of nowhere.
What you can try is to find an application that roots your s2 without pc access and then flash clockworkmod or twrp on it. You also have applications for it but I dont know the name at the moment.
I dont know how much a screen replacement for the nexus4 costs if somebody else does it but I think it will go to like 80 euros. Depends on where you live in korea I guess and if you know a good person.
You could also let your usb port get replaced or replace it yourself cause that makes everything better if you accidently flash a corrupt kernel then you cant enter recovery mode anymore and then you have to restore it with download mode. Or maybe a way with sdcard but I dont know whether that exists.
Edit: It just came up to me that you could flash philz recovery through stock recovery and then flash a rom like cyanogenmod 11 or some other custom rom. To flash philz recovery from stock recovery you only need to have an micro sdcard with philz recovery on it. So no need for pc access.
