How should I root it?
I guess root is only available for .63, .67 and .73

Why don't you upgrade to one of the newer frimwares then?
Just flash doom stock kernel,it has root and recovey.
You can find it in dev section.

Do you not get a software update notification if you have it check for updates under settings.
You can always flash an ftf for your specific region with what ever version you want.

Sony Xperia S Build 6.0.A.3.62
i have the build 6.0.A.3.62 with android 2.3 gingerbread. i have unlocked the bootloader but don't know how to test if it is unlocked or something else is still required. after unlocking the bootloader, when i powered up the phone, it was like i just bought the phone. it gave me those 9 steps to follow in order to setup internet connection, google account sync, etc. so how do I know if bootloader is unlocked on this phone?
now I'm dying here to root the phone lol. its been 20 hours i've been messing with the phone. right in this thread pratyush suggested to download the flashtool. but when i goto the flashtool website to download the latest version, the link is broken. file not found.
so i'm just wondering if someone can give step-by-step instructions for the build 6.0.A.3.62 and help me to root this device please. would appreciate your help a lot.
thanks for the help ppl ..

the latest one for my phone is 6.1.A.0.452 but all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with 452 build? will i have to unlock the bootloader again after updating my phone to ics? i'm really a newbie and stupid when it comes to playing with electronic devices. but i can follow instructions accurately. sony gives a warning while upgrading that i wont be able to go back to 2.3 if i upgraded to ics. so all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with present software build 62 or will it be better to upgrade and then root the phone on build 452?
please advise. thank you for your help.

You can go back to 2.3 just fine by flashing a ftf. There are a couple different methods to root ics. One needs an unlocked bootloader (flashing prerioted system image) the other does not (flashing multiple times while running some batch files). Both methods have posts in the dev section.

Easiest way is to unlock the booloader and flash the prerooted system.img you can then relock the bootloader if need be. That's for both ICS and GB.

You dont need to root to flash an firmware. Just saying.
Upgrade to ICS. Its much better and it would be much easier to help you because everyone uses it..
Good luck.
alrighty .. i tried to update the software but after downloading some odd 500 MB worth updates, it says "your software is modified, so can't be upgraded"
---------- Post added at 07:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:33 PM ----------
ok .. so i thought to do a factory reset on the phone settings > privacy > factory reset
it did factory reset and then i tried to upgrade the software. same thing ... it says, upgrade cant be done because the phone has modified software. i guess i will have to keep 2.3 gingerbread and then try to root the software. am i running out of options?

I've managed to do it. It was quite straight forward in the end.
You need to flash a 4.4.2 FTF file with Flashtool, then root that with EasyRoot and install DualRecovery. Then you can flash the latest 4.4.4 pre-rooted zip and voila! :good:

Is there an optimal ftf for running cm11/12. Also, what is the best way to find out what firmware you are running? Is it displayed somewhere?

Hi,
I tried to install on my Xperia Z2 Tablet CM. I rooted and made a backup of TA. Bootloader is still closed. When I wanted to flash, I recognized, that my volume down button is broken.
So, this tablet is new and I want to return it. But it is rooted and I don't want to loose my garantee.
Is there any possibilty to flash it without using the volume down button?
Thanks a lot.

for flashing CM rom you should Unlock your bootloader and unlocking bootloader to counteract your grantee !
if your bootloader is lock dont flash cm rom !
I've unlocked my bootloader the Official way. Here are my doubts-
1. Which guide to follow for root, twrp nd flashing?
2. Will i still get Ota updates for miui?
3. When is miui 8 coming to RN3 Pro?[emoji14]
P. S. I have Snapdragon version.
After official unlock you have nothing to worry about.
1) Flash twrp and then any rom that you want
2) If you decide to flash official rom, yes
3) Nobody knows. Probably they'll first release it to their flagship phones like Mi5, and after that we'll get it. Probably in a month or two.

you dont need all that, just flash the global beta. you should have root natively in the security app
flash beta just to have ad-away (in my case) I don't like that
most people flash beta just for root, if you have the MTK version there is a new way to root on locked bootloaders.

The root from global beta isn't a "real" root, it has restrictions. You can't for example use adaway etc. I suggest the author to flash twrp then SuperSU to have fully functional root.

You can S-Off and Super CID your phone from your nearest HTC servicing shop for about 5-10$ (for me, it took nearly 6.5$) by 'xtc2clip' or you can use 'Sunshine S-Off' app for android which costs 25$.
And to downgrade, you'll need 5.0.2 Firmware files which are locked while phone under S-ON mode. i have these firmware files, if you need these files, i'll upload these files here
Good luck!

Can you explain the procedure to downgrade step by step?
I am S-OFF & CID:11111111 (owner of xct2clip), but everytime I have tried to downgrade (via RUU or fastboot flash 0PFJIMG.zip) , I have failed miserably. I have tried relocked bootloader, unlocked bootloader, new HTC drivers & fastboot.......
I was able to restore a lollipop TWRP backup, but that doesn't downgrade the baseband, hence I still get reboots & bootloops when on the cyanogen rom
So which exact stock firmware files & procedure did you use to downgrade?
