Since upgrade to the Cyanogenmod, the camera on my i9100 is making zoomed pictures.
Digital zoom is set to 1.0, so theoretically there is NO zoom set, however when compared with another i9100 pictures are cropped.
To have the same view area I had to zoom to 2x on stock rom!
Picture quality is also very poor especially in macro mode (it's having problems focusing).
Currently I have the 11 revision (4.4.4) of the Cyanogenmod (nighty from 07/07/2014). Previous CM was behaving the same way.
All photos are saved as 3264 x 2448 resolution.
I like this software and don;t want to go back to stock rom but I also need a good camera, so your help would be highly appreciated.
Edit: I have downgraded to stock ROM and problem is now gone, so it must be something with CM.
I have since tried 3 different KitKat ROMs (C-Rom, Neat and Slim) and all suffer from the same problem - poor quality of BOTH cameras (front and rear) compared to stock Samsung ROM.
All rear cameras capture cropped photos compared to old stock ROM.
I don't think it's a fault of my mobile, since after downgrading to stock ROM everyhitng is back to normal, so it must be KitKat. I am just surprised that no one else noticed this problem
Did you disable True View in the camera app?

I could not find this feature in CM11, but found it in other KitKat system. After disabling camera crops a bit, I can live with that, however quality of photos is still bad compared with stock ROM. I will try to upload some photos today to show the difference.
After upgrading to SlimSaber, camera is taking good quality photos again, so problem solved.
Would someone be so kind as to post a method in which CM users can use the stock TW camera from an S5 or S6? Thank you in advance!
This would be pretty tricky as would need the TW Framework and a lot of edits to the system I believe. Not sure it has ever been done on any Samsung device.
its impossible.
use Lenovo camera not bad
I found a solution for this, use OPEN CAMERA, it's free, allows you to use it like a stock camera, you can film 4k, and the focus or autofocus, and quality of details are the same as stock s5 camera.
You cant use Selective Focus or HDR like the stock s5 camera.
Would happily pay $20 if someone ported the TW camera...
Thanks guys, I'll try that Open Camera a try and test out any others I find along the way
I was also looking for a camera app which would be as good as the Samsung stock camera. So far, I've been using Camera MX and Camera 360 Ultimate (for filters and effects).
Search for the HTC Camera Port or Lenovo Super Camera

For Exynos phones the Google Camera port only works with the ZSL (Zero Shutter Lag) option or Nexus 6 HDR processing - both of which use the CPU to handle HDR. The other (much better) HDR options rely on special image processing in the snapdragon CPU and will not work on a Exynos version of the S8/S8+. In general I seem to get better performance from the native Samsung Camera, but the Google Camera port with ZSL does seem to take more pictures faster, so that can be a slight improvement.
If you are really seeing better low light performance can you list all of your settings and provide sample pics? I would really like to get better performance but I can't seem to get anything to work better than the native Samsung Camera app on Exynos phones.

I got the latest gcam versions working on mix 3 so gonna share it here
Sanity:
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/GoogleCamera_6.2.030_stable_alt.apk
BSG:
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/MGC_6.2.030_RN7_V1plusplus_FINAL.apk
Will Attach Sample Images Later
The Sanity apk worked for me but BSG kept closing. Thanks very much!
Everything seems to be working without any issues - it has some cool camera modes not in the stock camera.
I will use this for the night sight because I hear it's better than MIUI's version.
But I'll keep MIUI camera for front facing pictures:
gcam front facing flash lights up screen rather than uses the torch at the front.
In gcam settings, front camera photo resolution maximum is 6.2 megapixels instead of 24MP.
gcam has digital zoom! This is good - stock doesn't have digital zoom.
Does anyone have any opinion on MIUI camera vs gcam for daytime pictures though (mix 3)? It's night time here so I can't compare yet.
Looks like gcam does not use the optical zoom (2x) like stock does. Only digital zoom available. So stock camera may be better here for far away shots.

Using the telephoto lens is different on GCam 6.2 version, it was easier on previous versions. IIRC, you have to go to settings (settings > advanced > on the bottom there is a "Switch to the auxiliary back camera" switch) every time you want to use the telephoto lens. A bit annoying but there's nothing we can do about that, I'm afraid.
Hi guys
I've seen that many people are interested to get anx camera working. I'm on newest syberia and anx is working.
But I'm wondering why all wanna have this app.
In my comparision anx cam to gcam there's for me a clear winner (you'll see a big difference if you zoom in the pictures) :

I've tested in the same area by night and by day.
Both apps are many time adjusted to get the best result of each app.
May there's someone who uses another app with good pucture quality but for the moment gcam 7.3.018 is my favorite.
Gcam settings attached
I agree with you on photo quality.
However stock cam supports better portrait mode, ultra wide camera video recording, manual mode, pixel peaping, etc...
Gcam focuses on quality of standard features, MIUI camera focuses on widening features. There are times MIUI camera has advantages over Gcam, so having both is a better idea than just to pick one.
