H850 Root with no data loss? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

So I'm gonna go the LG route and root my G5 "legally" by unlocking the bootloader.
What sucks is that the phone will restore to manufacturer's, and no matter what kind of backup one does, it'll still require some good work to get the phone back to how I like it. Some data may still be lost.
My question is: is there really no way to root this phone the classic way? I've rooted every phone I came across and never had to go through this process.
I've researched as much as I could find and there still seems to be no way to easily root.
Am I missing something?

The unlock processor wipes the phone so not getting around it. Use the LG Backup app and do recent sync with Google account (app data)

What are your experiences in rooting the LG G Flex 2 using Kingroot (or other apps)?

Hello,
I am considering rooting my LG G Flex 2 with the KingRoot app (I have used it on my other phone in the past and it worked, generally easy to use and gives generally good results, so I hope it'll go just as smooth on this phone...), but before I do, I would like to know what experiences others had with rooting this phone? So if you have rooted this phone, then...
-Did you successfully root it?
-...Or did it brick?
-Is there any other app you would recommend for me to use?
Also, it would be helpful if anyone could point me towards a backup app/utility I could use to make a complete backup of my phone, so that if anything goes wrong, I can reset my phone to how it was right before I did...

Easily root trough Kingroot?

I want to root my 5X but I dont have a PC. I have found a app named Kingroot. It says it can root my device.
1. Does it work?
2. Will I lose my data
3. Will it brick, that is the question
Since this device's bootloader is unlockable, why not simply unlock bootloader and flash SuperSU? Data can always be backed up and restored. It's really easiest and cleanest way, and you're not using random shady apps.
I think that Kingoroot is quite a security concern because there is no way to know what's that app pushing to your system - used it on my old Allwiner tab, and had nothing but trouble later (trying to remove KR crap from device and replace it with SuperSU nearly bricked it after KR removal, so I had to do a full reflash of device, lost everything on it, and lost five days trying to find an exploit manually, since device didn't have usable recovery... and all because of that Kingoroot crap - lesson learned the hard way), but hey, it's your device.

Bootloader unlock and flash su is definitely the cleaner way to do it and there are good guides available but the oem unlock part does require fastboot which if you don't have access to a computer, I don't think you can do it without having root already.
I have used Kingroot before as well, not for the 5x though. However, I immediately flashed a custom rom however so I didn't have to deal with all that junk haha. Still, as @ShadySquirrell said, you don't really know what's going on underneath the hood.
Another thing to note is kingroot has its own su binary as far as I know, not supersu, although there are ways to change that.
I really would just recommend finding a pc to work on if possible however, it's a better solution. Unlocking bootloader will wipe your data so make sure to back up what you can though. I don't recall kingroot wiping data but then again, I didn't care at the time anyways.
Hope this helps

So if I now root my phone over the pc, can I just backup my data and restore them later with HiSuite and the root is still there. Or how did you backup?
kingoroot worked great on my lg d851 (g3) but the bootloader was unlocked on that device. as far as backing up what you currently have , id back up all of the downloads, photos,mp3s etc to your computers hard drive first, and then use fastboot. hisuite may work decently but i didnt like it on my computer, it seemed like a RAM Hog on my PC so i cant vouch for it personally
I've also never really used hisuite but from a quick google search seems like it would work fine. I assume you're staying with the stock rom so hisuite would prob work but if not, the process is pretty much the same except you should back up using titanium or something similar after restore from hisuite.
*(I didn't backup through hisuite when I rooted and flashed since I didn't have anything I needed to keep and I was changing roms anyways)
As far as backing up, @talksickisil said what I was thinking, just backup all your personal data somewhere, make sure your contacts, calendar, accounts, etc are backed up as well.
You can try an adb backup as well but maybe someone else can give you more info on that. There's quite a few tools if you don't like using terminal commands. There's a couple xda threads on adb backups as well.
Yes it good to back up those as well. But hopefully your google account is set to sync your contacts calendars gmail and google drive data etc, this way when you log in again it syncs back to you.
DO NOT root with Kingroot.

Will rooting a phone help recover data

Hello I followed a tutorial on the forums to update my Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) the tuorial did say all data would remain intact, due to my stupidity I didn't make a backup of my phone. After the update had completed all my data had been wiped.
I've basically lost everything and I have only myself to blame. I have been searching google and the xda forums since yesterday but can't find an answer to my question.
I have downloaded a couple of recovery software programs which prompt me to root my phone which I'm reluctant to-do as I don't want to trip knox if it's not going to help in recovering any data.
I tried the diskdigger app and that recovered 105 photos which gave me a little bit of hope that maybe rooting the device will recovery almost everything I lost.
My question is what software would the experts here recommend to use as I'm reluctant in purchasing a license unless it's going to help with recovering my data and what are the realistic chances that rooting the device will allow more data recovery.
I have learned my lesson backup all phone data before following any xda tutorial. I would also like to apologise if something similar has been posted before as my search on XDA did not bring up any links to the type of situation I'm in.
Thanks in advance for helping out if possible.
You can try this software http://www.gihosoft.com/android-data-recovery-free.html you can try the free version first. And yes root is a must to have access to certain directories on your device. But be prepared there is a good chance your data is lost for good.

Don't bother. The chances of getting the stuff back is slim to none. As it formated the partition. You may get a few things but won't be worth tripping Knox and losing your warranty. Unless you have an sdcard never trust device storage to keep things safe.

There's 50 percent chance you can get your data back after you root your phone and use some recovery tool, but you will lose your warranty and trip knox, depends on whether your data worth it.
Besides, make a backup with Google Drive/Google Photos next time.

I do have some important data if recovered would make my life a lot easy. I am not really concerned about warranty I've never had to get a mobile phone repaired.
I'm just reluctant on tripping knox as their is no guarantee that the recovered data will not be corrupt that's why I'm waiting for a few more replies to see if anyone has had success recovering 100% functional data and what software they used.
Thanks for the help though.
Hello, did you find a way for recovering the files?
Im exactly like this now, the only difference is that i haven't root yet, but to use DiskJagger i need to do it, so im so confused...

Need root can't lose data.

I have a vernee v2 pro. And since I have got I loved the phone but there was never a good way to root it. Recently I found out there was a twrp for it and I could finally flash it and get root on this thing. But there is a problem. I can't unlock the bootloader without losing my data. There is a specific work app that is very poorly made and can't be backed up asnfar as I can tell. So is there a way to unlock the bootloader without reseting my phone? Cant I just make a backup of the phones complete storage? (like trough adb as though I was making an iso of my phones flash to then flash onto it). I would make a full flash dump. Unlock the bootloader and then flash it back. Is something like this possible?

Help with bootloader on Android 13

So, I want to root my Z Fold3 SM-F926B running Android 13, but as I saw everywhere, I need bootloader enable. I want to know if I can do a bootloader without losing all my files, or if I can back up my phone using samsung backup optios and after I enabled the bootloader I can redo everything that was backed up. And after that, is there anything more I have to do to use Magisk? Like something so complicated as bootloadeing?
By backing up, I mean everything that my phone has, like apps, photos, accounts and everything else. Samsung has an option to save your current phone state and you can download it back after a reset or on another phone.

When you unlock the bootloader, your device will have to be wiped. So yes, you will have to back up your phone beforehand to safe everything. As for how to back it up and restore it, do a quick search online and see. The official installation instructions for Magisk can be found here.
If you have any questions, let me know.
