Ok Google with screen off? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hi. Just got this phone and want to get off this factory ROM asap!! My loves are ResurrectionRemix and PureNexus (when I had 6p).
I'm wondering if anybody with the redmi note 4 can verify a functional ok Google with screen off and/or dt2w without battery drain. Which ROM?
Thanks.

Double tap to wake working fine in AEX, RR and LOS, and no considerable battery drain too.
And for the Ok Google thing, it doesn't work on screen off for me. But once I press power key to turn the screen on and utter the Magic words, the phone unlocks itself with someone listening on the screen.

Thanks for the info

No deep sleep on miui 8

Hey there. Weird problem but my device has no deep sleep at all over 2 hours in screen off. Have had this problem for awhile and wanted to see if anyone could help. I have BBS and wake lock detector if it will help. See alot of event wake locks there but no clue what they mean.
Also I am currently on epic kenzo 6.11.10 but stock MIUI 8 has the same problem as well as cm13/Santosh and cm14.1 aoscp
any ideas?

msm_otg is only at 1s on wakelock detector. could it still be a problem?
Tried resetting and multiple different kernels (agni. Radon) still have the event warlocks as usual. Anyone have a clue?

Actually, the problem is that latest miui lollipop roms have a new modem which is breaking deep sleep by causing a fingerprint related wakelock, solution is to switch to an older modem from miui 8.0.2 global stable, I have made a recovery flashable zip for that.

not sure if it's the same issue for you, but i had similar problem on lollipop miui. You can find the link to the zip in this post

lol tried that. broke my calling no sound. and still no deep sleep
just updated and flashed the newest miui global stable through miflash (flash_all bat and reunlocked bootloader) (8.1.1.0) and still no deep sleep sadly.
*edit
Woah weird wtf moment... miui says my phones sleeping yet another usage app in miui says im always awake i wonder which one is telling the truth.
*2nd edit.
also kinda weird... i have wifi off and scanning off so no clue why wifi on is showing?
So update, back again at the latest dev preview (7.1.5 at this point) aaaand still nothing, no deep sleep and ive lost almost 50% overnight. keep in mind that i have installed no apps what so ever and i even debloated the rom. any ideas anyone?
Lol, I got this problem like 1 year, and it seems like there is no solution. you can try CM 13 roms maybe, they seem to sleep. I have this problem in all MIUI roms and I'm not alone, there are lots of the on internet. I think, this ain't a software problem. It is hardware related.

For marshmallow try cm13 marcox89 build
Nogut, not yet stable, i suggest cm11 latest slimsaber build for best performance ever, and battery life of course.

Not sure about video tutorials, but there are multiple guides available here in xda to repartition your phone to increase system partition size and to be able to flash any rom
U can follow this guide if you prefer using pc, it's easier for me as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...vatives/mod-increase-partition-size-t3011162/
Or this tool made by lanchon for non pc users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tool-lanchon-repit-data-sparing-t3358036/
I believe there is a video guide somewhere, you can try googling, and you may find It.

Battery depends on how you use the device more than it does on what ROM you're using. It's all in how you use it.

It depends on your usage at first, and the stock rom or stock based roms are the best battery life roms.
Because jellybean is the best in battery life for now

well, as i told you it depends on usage, i uninstalled Facebook and i used lite instead, but after all i don't actually reach 3 hours on lineageOS 14.1, but the stock rom or neat rom are the best in battery life, you also might want to try latest slimsaber kitkat build, it has great balance between performance and batterylife, i'm on AICP 12.1 build 7/2, the screen on time isn't bad but something is wrong with screen off, it drains battery, might be a wakelock issue......or if you want to stick to lineageOS, you can just relieve your mind, and buy an extended battery, because our battery isn't built to stand high system usage like in newer androids..

Custom stock-based ROM like NeatROM will make it possible to reach 3+ SOT depending your usage and hardware. Using Apolo kernel with small UV may be able to extend your battery life slightly.
Slimsaber KitKat is one of the ROMs I've tested to have comparable battery life while maintaining good performance. Anything after KitKat is slow and bloated (also heavily depends on RAM management and etc).
Wow
That helped alot bro thanks....
No problem with the battery
I'm using OFFICIAL 7.1.1 LineageOS 14.1 on my GT-i9100 with 1-6G pit.
I have done much reading about the subject and few experiments - so the following, so far, works best for me and i like it(i dont have any games nor chat apps):
I started with nano gapps and then installed ca 20 more apps.
I have a new battery "Polarcell" - i kept strictly its manufacturer instructions about first time use.
About the battery levels i'm using few methods on my rooted phone:
- "Power save" profile all the time.
- one program for apps hibernation in which i added many apps to take care of( i don't really know whether that helps ).
- In the "Kernel Adiutor" i changed on boot three options - CPU Governor "Pegasusq", I/O Sheduler "Noop" and TCP Algorithm "Reno"
- With another app i disabled "starting on boot" most of the programs which i don't see a reason to be active right after rebooting.
- I don't know whether this is relevant to you but check if google voice is using your mic all the time - i had that problem with my guitar tuner app.
- My Home screen is completely black with 160bytes png-24 little file.
- I'm trying use dark themes with all apps when possible.
- No Shadows under the text of the apps names.
Of all 7.1.1 ROMs this one(OFFICIAL 7.1.1 LineageOS 14.1) works best for me in all aspects and i'm very thankful to the LOS team.
Btw: I have tested other most popular 7.1.1 N roms and with one of them after i woke up my phone was shut down - 0% battery.
Just sharing my experience with the hope that it will help someone.

Can you provide a list of apps you use for hibernation and power saving?
Also Can you tell how much is your usage of social netoworking/internet apps? Like 2 hours 4 hours a day or all day? Does Viber/WhatsApp etc keep running and WIFI is connected all day?
Also do you use WIFI most parts of the day or 3g/4g network for data?
Can you tell how much hours a day you spend on calls and how much on SMS? E.g. 1 hour or SMS and 3 hours call each day?
What kind of battery do you use? What is the current rating of the battery?
Lastly, how many hours of screen time do you get with no calls? How many hours of usage with 2-3 hours of calls each day? How many times do you have to charge your phone with your current setup?
I am using DND on my i9100 and I want to change it. I use a double battery which I checked (via digital multimeter) that offers 16Amps (8Amp + 8Amp =16,000 mAh) but still with no usage (just receiving sms, not sending), I get only 2 days of standby time. With internet usage like Viber+whatsapp, i get maximum 6 hours which compared to available power in the battery is very less. I should be getting more time.
Can you please reply with the details in my request? Thanks

I forced shut down this phone and now its not turning on...

I was installing aosp, flashed a kernel, booted up the phone and it was booting too long so I decided to turn it off by holding power button and it did turn off but its not turning on again and thanks to awesome new phone designs where you can't take the fu**** battery off, what the hell im supposed to do now ? I wont disassemble a screen that's already factory poorly slapped on to the phone so just I could disconnect the battery... Who knows how much I will have to wait for battery to discharge now... Any solution maybe ? I just hope I didn't brick something by doing this it wouldn't make sense to just die when I was just turning it off when it was stuck on booting... This is the first time I have seen something ridiculous as this happen... Now the phone is cold and its probably not draining the battery, how great...
UPDATE: Yes the phone turned on when i disconnected the battery,

I remember that i waited like 4 hours when installing rom( i guess it was a mui rom). So after that i was able to open twrp again. So i tried to install same rom again and waited another 4 hours to get twrp menu. Finally small auriel rom saved my day after that. So what in implying is: be patient. For example if windows boot took long give it some time. IF you force it to close- Like many other electronic devices - PC or phone will behave strangely...

I flashed a kernel that was apparently non compatible with aosp so actually it would never do anything and the fact that my phone was not able to turn on after force shut down is completely ridiculous and I'm afraid now it might happen again if system gets frozen or something; I might need to remove the screen again...
Heyyo, weird turn of events indeed hmm... So you were trying to flash AOSP from Google with a LeEco kernel on top? I'm unsure if that would work since it would require vendor blobs and device tree for the Le Max 2 to be properly compatible.
I'd recommend for custom ROMs to check out the ones currently available and stable Nougat. You can try the experimental Oreo builds but they aren't what I would call stable for regular use.
OmniROM would definitely be the stable Nougat ROM I'd recommend first. It's definitely stability above all else and is a great first way to get your feet wet or stick with for custom ROMs.
There's other ROMs you can try such as SlimRoms if you want more recent tweaks and they have been coming along quite nicely. SlimRoms is more of a balance between performance, battery and stability.
If you want optimization over stability there is BlackX as another example.

Hmm that's a tough one since both share a lot of code but andr86rus would probably know best since they are his ROMs so DU might have a slight edge over OmniROM.

Wakelocks on AOSP ROMs

I have tried pretty much all AOSP ROMs and I am finding that all of them have huge number of wakelocks. At night my phone is awake for about 1.5 to 2 hours out of 7-8 hours and drains 7-10% battery over this time. Even with clean install and only minimum apps installed.
In battery useage apps they show up as Kernel (Android OS) and Linage OS System in battery usage apps. Any idea how to find and resolve this?
same for me!
This only happens on AOSP roms? Not on Lineage OS?

So this doesn't happen in stock rom? I'm getting my Redmi 5 Plus today and i plan to flash a custom rom because i don't like bloatware and gapps, but if this is a big issue i don't know if i should for now.

I don't think so. Stand by on Stock ROM was much better for me. Lost 0% overnight.
same happens to me.
Same for me.
same here. 1% lost every hour overnight, just mobile signal, no wifi, no bluetooth no gps
Try using AppOps to deny the following permissions for the apps you have installed - keep awake, auto start, run in background. Exclude messaging, clock and dialer apps from this procedure.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-0-0-hour-idle-battery-drain-stock-t2973588
These guides can help, but are most likely not longer necessary past Android 7.
I am doing a test by clean flashing, not installing any apps and not even installing Gapps to see if the same drain happens. Will report back.
Cleaned flashed, NO GAPPS, NO other apps, left phone for 8 hours, lost 8%. "Significant motion detector" was awake for 2.5 hours. Same wakelock on all ROMs, seems like an issue with this phone. I don't know if it happens on MIUI but I guess no?
It might be because all the ROMs are based on the initial work of mdeejay and tingyichen, as I understand it. All the AOSP ROMs are basically the same, only varying in tiny amounts of superficial stuff that is added to them.
Did you try the unofficial OmniROM build? It's the only non-Lineage ROM that's developed from scratch (by ex-CM devs), and to me it does feel different than all the rest, in a positive way.
use better battery stats for understanding the culprit. i am on 8.1 AEX and overnight drain is 0.5%. 0n miui it was 1%.
Sent from my vince using XDA Labs
What phone do you have ? 3/32 or 4/64? And what baseband firmware? I ask because I had same 1% per hour drain on aex too. I wonder if having encryption on makes a difference?
I am tired of trying new roms and kernels but all behave the ssme. 35% time awake

battery drain miui 12

Hello everybody,
I have this beautiful phone since two days now and I'm running miui 12 on it. I love the look of it but I won't get more than 5 hours of sot. Aod switched off and 90hz on all the time. I came from Poco F1 where I easily did get round about 6 hours of sot. Anybody got the same problem and might be able to help me fix it? Thanks in advance
try to factory reset the phone
Okay you think it might help? The phone is completely new like I've said and I've even debloated it
i have the same issue with battery drain. Factory reset didnt help for me. The Wake line is constant blue with really short sleep times.
BBS said that google gms and xiaomi framework are the most battery using tools.
I will downgrade to miui 11 back until my bootloader is unlocked....
i use miui12 eu 20.6.18
an wen i have 5 houres sot i still have about 50%+ back
on miui 11 i had 6 hours sot and i had about 30% left. Now i have 2,5 hours sot and my battery has 5% left.
that really suck.
Same had 5+ hardcore sot on 11 now barely gets 3 on 12..
Miui12 is shat.

I also had this battery drain problem on MIUI 12, i tried to factory reset, wipe data into recovery but nothing worked. And i finally solved that problem by downloading the entire MIUI 12 package for my Mi10 Europe version on official xiaomi website and by updating the complete package with update menu of the phone.
Could you give us quick steps how to do that and which exact version did you use?
