This is the 2nd time recently I am facing this problem.
Each contact is repeated for 10 times in my phone contacts (last time it was 50 times each). Can't even delete them, there is a option to hide 1 contact at a time that too manually.
I deleted all the contacts from installed application> contacts storage>clear data.
Can anyone help me with a easy and stable solution.
Did you tried logging in to Google on a PC and open the contacts, and merging or removing duplicate ones? (if you sync with Google).
Follow my procedure:
1. Open Settings
2. Tap System Apps
3. Tap Contacts
4. Tap Display Preferences
5. Tap Configure Contact List
6. Choose among the options.
*YOU'RE DONE !!

The above step does not work when you try to search. It still shows contacts from all the accounts when you try to search and shows all 10 duplicate contacts.
Just remove whatsapp account from sync options
Go to settings then select sync then select whatsapp then remove account

Email - how to dl all messages from server? I just got a few from last week
Thx
I ve found this solution:
1. Select eMail in the HD2 Start Menu.
2. Select your mail account (without opening the mail, if you open the mail, simply press back arrow on hardware keys, and then reselect eMail form Start Menu.
This will ensure Mail Account is highlighted.
3. Select Menu > options
4. Tap the account to change settings
5. Select Send/Receive Schedule
6. Select frequency and Download options eg past 3 days, 5, 7, 30, ALL
Download size for mail and attachments also available.
This does not appear to be available for Hotmail account!
Hope this helps.
BUT - it doesnt work ( I m using CHT mayby thats why)
Anyway, after point 2 from above, I got only "Lock" in the left bottom corner, no "3. Select Menu > options"
For Hotmail you can add from 15,000 to 30,000 characters.
just go to the Email in the Options.
How to delete all people with out hard reset
From the people application, you can select delete from the menu, then press menu again and select all.
Be careful, I am guessing that if you delete google contacts from your phone and then it syncs with google they will also be deleted from google.

Deletions will sync afaik. Maybe remove your google accounts first?
Is there a way to restore the contacts you have in HeyTell after flashing a rom ?
I flash a lot of roms but i have to add my friends everytime i do and its annoying for them, which is understandable.. So can i add them without having to send them a text message ?
Would it be possible if i used Titanium Backup ? Never tried that program ..
No one knows if this is possible ?
Restoring HeyTell contacts using Google Sync
Does your ROM have a Privacy option? Typically found via Menu > Settings > Privacy? (If not, try a Search from Settings, or open Voice Dialer and say "Privacy Settings"--these options are typically included in Android 2.2 or higher, but may be hidden depending on the distribution.)
If so, enable all backup options there and make sure that everyone in HeyTell is added as a friend (green circle with check mark - tap the check mark button and tap Friend to add them). This will store your underlying account information with your Gmail account. After you flash the phone and sign into Gmail, then install HeyTell, your friends should show up--they'll be accessible in the Friends list you see when you tap inside the To: field.
One caveat is that Google sync doesn't appear to work if you've set your primary account up with a @googlemail.com domain - but this should work if you're using the standard gmail.com domain as primary.
On my Galaxy S I had it set up so my contacts would only display my Gmail contacts. On the Galaxy SIII every time I go into my contacts I have to select the option to show contacts from Gmail.
How can I make this permanent???
Pretty sure it's in the same section. Rather than just selecting google contacts, go down to were it says customize, and set them there.

Sorry, didn't realise I was talking to myself (just having a dig) I've turned my phone on and am now looking at it and will detail where to go.
Press menu
select Contacts to Display
select Customized List
Then go through each account option and either tick, or untick the ones you want. For me, when I do this it stays on each reboot, boot up, what ever.
In this section I have 4 google accounts showing on my phone, a facebook, a samsung, the sim, and the phone account. But I keep all the contacts I want in one of the google accounts so that is the only one I have set to display. And while I don't use any other accounts, there are some provider numbers in the sim account, and obviously facebook ones. But none of them ever show when I set this.
Hope that helps this time.

once you check merge with google, all your phone contacts will be moved to google account and they no longer appear as phone contacts. hope you understand that.

First of all thank you for answering me so quick. I understand that, my question was if there was any way to revert this, unmerge tha contac list or any other way of setting it back the way it was. I was just trying to backup my contacts using google.

i suggest you keep them that way. because when ever you flash something on your phone, you may loose your contacts when you data factory reset. once you login to your google mail, your contacts will be in your phone. you can even look up your contacts in your gmail on desktop. i hope you know all these already.

You can do this
Open Contacts
Tap > Menu
Tap > Import/Export
Tap > Export to SD card
You will get a message saying it is saving a 00001.vcf file
Tap > OK
All contacts are then saved to a single vcf file the on the external memory (SD) card.
Use a file explorer and make sure you have the file on your external SD Card
Next got to Settings > Application Manager and scroll across to All
Scroll down to Contacts Storage and tap clear data, this will wipe your contacts data
Go back to the Contacts
Tap > Menu.
Tap > Contacts to Display
Tap > Phone
Tap > Menu
Tap > Import/Export
Tap > Import from SD card
Import the 00001.vcf file and select Phone as the option
You should have all contacts back with a Google icon and a Phone icon next to them, if you have then finally do the below
Next log into Gmail click on the Gmail drop down (top left under the google logo) and select contacts, then select all and click More > Delete Contacts, give it a moment to clear from your phone
Done, removed from google sync and back on your phone also backed up to your SD card as a single vcf file
