[Q] hy i am not able to Backup Using CWM Recovery

Hi !
Guys please help me out !
I have a CWM Recovery 5.0.2.8 and when i try to backup my rom using backup and restore... CWM starts doing the backup...It backs up system ...but when it shows backing up data...it hangs and gets stuck at the end of backing up of data stage ...
The phone restarts after 5 minutes ...
Backup is not complete
In order to confirm whether there is any fault in the recovery i told some other persn t test it.
But he was successfully able t backup ... and the recovery showed backup complete message..
im using karbonn a21
Please help where is the fault !!!???
HELP PLEASE TILL NOW I CANT FIND ANY PROPER SOLUTION TO THIS !!!
RE:
check if any of the following holds true, then please correct it:
1. your phone might not be rooted (or rot access is not given to CWM)
2. you may have the wrong/corrupt clockworkmod (always check md5 checksum for verification).
if the problem persists, try the following:
-> run 'fix permissions' under the utilities menu of CWM recovery
-> reboot into recovery mode and do a cache/user data format.
hope that does it.
Cheers.
(Thumbs up if it works)

My phone is rooted!
what does fix permissions do exactly ?
ive tried factory resetting and then taking the backup but no luck !!!!
still gets stuck at the end stage of backing up data !
RE:
fix permissions, as the name suggests, fixes all the root permissions (if anything ever went wrong during rooting).
again, have you verified the md5 checksum of the cloclworkmod you downloaded?

for example, say i downloaded a galaxy S II cyanogenmod for my Karbonn A7 from: download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=stable&device=galaxys2
you can see the md5sum written there.
after you've downloaded the mod,
you can check it's md5sum again by following this thread: androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/138831-verify-your-files-md5-checksums.htm

prefix the addresses with www or http
that would do
or try this: www.md5summer.org/md5sum.zip
extract the files into a folder and use cmd to operate
www.md5summer.org/help.html

the md5 is not related to CWM.
it's the code generated for any specific file and is used to check whether a downloaded file is corrupted or not.
check it here: md5summer.org/help.html

My basic question is
1st: How would that help me in taking a backup anyway
2nd : You need some files to check the md5 sum of . Which files do i check the md5 sum of ??
EDIT : I have the correct CWM fr the phone ! Some other person tested it on his Karbonn A21 and he was succesful in taking backups !

I would try a different SD card. If you don't have one, try borrowing the friend's for whom your version of cwm succeeded. To be safe, you should make sure that there are at least 3GBs free space.

[Q] To MD5sum or not to MD5sum?

Hi all..
I have been using the Zip files, via CWM to update my CM10 versions.. All is well..
But I see the md5sum files that one can flash with ODIN there as well..
So my Q is: Do I need to flash the MD5's as well? If so, for what point and purpose?
Regards
T
Md5 files are checksums for the file you are downloading. Its basically a way to verify you have downloaded the complete file and that its the file that it says it is.

Solved

Hi guys,
I'm trying to set up ota updater centre for my rom. When I'm registering the rom, it needs the MD5 sum of the rom. I have downloaded "MD5summer" but i cant check the md5 sum of all the zip file, only for the folders inside it.
What i'm doing wrong?
If i'm right, what code should I take (system or Meta-inf)?

Updater process ended with ERROR: 7

Hallo everyone,
So I wanted to install cyanogenmod on my Galaxy S III i9300, but unfortunately I got stuck and dont know what to do further.
-I installed twrp-3.0.2-1 using Odin3 v3.09
-Downloaded cm-13 nightly and GAPPS
-Wiped everything
-Tried to install cyanogenmod
Reconstructing the log:
Checking for MD5 file ...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
symlink: some symlinks failed
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file "(directory and name of the zip)
So at this point I tried several TWRP versions and several cyanogenmod version ending up with the same result and getting pretty desperate.
Can anyone help me here?
Thanks in advance
Edit: I of course tried to find a solution without posting first. I saw something about the SD memory formatted as internal memory, but couldnt make a sense of it or how to change it. Also I just bought a micro SD today to do this.
Also I always have to run Odin with the TWRP versions after i got the error since my phone wont return to the menu only to the downloading status with the green android guy
Consider me stupid....
Seems like the i9305 stuff is working better on my phone

the solution is
1. wipe some partitions using the advanced wipe. the app will automatically updates the partition
2. reinstall the ROm
This thread is over a year old. Error 7 message may be due to an outdated custom recovery or the ROM was not made for the phone.

Can't install new ROM version with twrp

Hey guys,
I have an OP5 and wanted to update my OOS 5.1.3 to OOS 5.1.5. I already have rooted my phone with currently Magisk 16.0, but I wanted to upgrade Magisk too directly after installing OOS, bc you have to install it again (if I have to install the orld version again first and only can upgrade after a restart, please write me). I use TWRP 3.2.1-1.
So I downloaded the OOS 5.1.5 version. Then I copied on my phone, restarted into recovery and then created a checkfile. For the zip "OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_038_all_1808082017_028e075c45a84106.zip" I created the checkfile "OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_038_all_1808082017_028e075c45a84106.zip.md5" with "96628db3bc3e5575677adad648ec616a *OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_038_all_1808082017_028e075c45a84106.zip" as content ("<checksum> *<filename>" in the file <filename>.md5). So I tried to installed the new OOS version. I wiped cache and dalvik and then selected the zip file. I turned zip signature verification on. But It said
Code:
Installing zip file '<file>'
Checking for Digest file...
Verifying zip signature...
Zip signature verification failed!
Error installing '<file>'
Updating partition details...
...done
I wiped cache/dalvik again and tried without zip verification.
Then I got
Code:
Installing zip file '<file>'
Checking for Digest file...
Digest matched for '<file>'.
vendor partition is not existed, exit ota!!
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file '<file>'
Updating partition details...
...done
So I downloaded it again, directly on an USB flash drive and tried both with and without zip signature verification. Nothing was different. Then I changed the checkfile so it only had the checksum as content without the filename behind, because I saw it this way once. But nothing changed. Now I don't know what I should do... I saw someone said you should download the zip directly to your phone and don't move it, but I can't select my phone as download destination. On the USB flash drive I downloaded it only and didn't moved the file, but idk if it is a problem that I had to unplug it from my pc to plug it in my phone.
When I rooted my phone I had the same problem but after trying some times it worked. This was when I had no OS installed and installed OOS 5.1.3.
pastebin com / xx0scV4s
Here i have the complete log I got from TWRP.
Sry but I can't insert links so I have to use this ****ty method
