It all started when I was casually scrolling in my facebook feed. Running posion 7.0N rom, my phone suddenly overheated for unknown reasons and shut down. What did I see when I turned it back on? A bootloop, but a weird one. Just before it looped, an artifacted screen of "XPERIA" flashed for a second. (NOTE! The pattern is always the same! Making me think, it cannot be a hardware problem, right ? exact same thing every single time? )
Flashed new poison rom, all good.
Several weeks later, I wanted to switch to pexorom. Flashed it after wiping, guess what, bootloop with exact same artifact. It doesnt happen with poison.
I have tried everything casual like wiping several things, retrying etc etc
I have a pic of the artifact here , caught it with my old iPh... erm . iPhone 4.
https://ibb.co/fViFJk (bottom right is just a censor of my face, not included in the artifacts)
Also a note: After getting the artifact bootloop, it takes 3 continuous wipes and flashes of the POISION rom to make it work, otherwise it bootloops or it says system UI crashes.
Anyone encountering anything like this? I have very weird problems.
Thank you!

So I just flashed this ROM VIA Odin and I'm a bit worried.
Here is what I'm noticing:
When I first booted the phone everything was very glitchy looking which didn't worry me too much because it was the first boot. I rebooted it after 15min or so and is was still glitchy. It was just a bunch of different pixels. I went into my camera and it looked the exact same. Every once in a while I'll do something and then it will look really glitchy and not show anything, and then it will subside. Is anyone experiencing this? Was it a bad flash or is this normal with a freshly installed ROM?
Flash a gingerbread bootloader. That will fix the rainbow effect, as it is called on these boards.

i was experiencing the same problems as you and most of them were solved by flashing the bootloader and the sgs2 camera needs to be flashed sepratly (i think)
Turn off the screen and turn it back again and it will all clear up.

Hopefully they can start making flashing the bootloader flash by default. It would calm a lot of nerves.
i dont have rainbow apart from on boot up and i dont have the bootloaders
Good afternoon all,
So last night I updated to Neutrino 2.2 using the normal factory clear/dalvik cache wipe and finishing with installing the .zip
The only difference in this case is that I downloaded the zip using my phone over Wi-Fi.
Unfortunately for me, the phone will only boot to the Motorola logo splash screen and go no further. In the past I have recovered from a backup but I am unable to in this case.
I have tried re-wiping and reinstalling the ROM multiple times hoping for some luck but....I never got lucky =(
I assume the .zip was corrupt some how and caused this blip.
Anything now is....How do I recover? I have full access to the recovery but am unable to mount the internal storage and I do not have an SD card.
Advice please?
Neutrino V2.2 has a problem where the first (and only first) boot will hang. Just pull battery and reboot. Also, make sure to do the wipes before flashing and not after.

Cheers dude, I'll give it a go now.
Also, I am wiping before and not after ;D
WOW! I've been without a phone for a whole day and it was THAT easy to fix?
AHH dude wtf! Everything is back to front? So when I swipe left on home screen it goes right and right goes left. Even the buttons are screwed ;(
ok it fixed itself....LOLOLOLOLOL
Dude, has the market been removed? Because I haven't got it.
I am so noob today, I know I must install the .zip via recovery!
Yes, you have to install the "Lite Gapps" add-on from the second post in the Neutrino thread.

Glad you got your phone working again. I'm just chiming in to say a few nights ago my phone did the same mirror-image thing (on the Wet Dream rom, not sure it matters). I'm not exactly sure why that happened. My best guess is the CPU temp was a little high (around 60C); it stopped after a few minutes, coincidentally after it cooled down a bit.
but yeah, got a little worried when it persisted after a complete reboot... :/
Hey all
For some reason today my phone has just started randomly locking up. Was running a nightly build of Cyanogen mod from Mid January. Never had any issues with it today.
Ive basically done a complete wipe of the system (/system, data, cache, dalvik, SD card, etc) and installed a newer nightly of Cyanogen mod, but it is still happening. Thinking it may be a hardware problem...
Any ideas as to how i can check whats going wrong?
Symptoms:
- Screen completely freezes on what it was doing. Screen state stays the same too (doesnt dim after a while)
- Haptic touch buttons sometimes work and sometimes dont (if they do work, all they do is vibrate, nothing changes on the screen)
- Tried a few button combinations to try and get it to respond again. Only way to get it goign again is to reboot the system completely (holding Power + Home)
Thanks

last option :- backup internal storage. do a megawipe. install any samsung based rom again.
if that also does not work. bring phone back to full stock i.e there should be no proof that u used custom roms and then try to get samsung to exchange it. sorry.

hope your s3 is the international version I9300.
If not then u r in the wrong section and installing non compatible roms and mods, that could be the cause of all this.
Hello,
Today I was charging my phone via USB and suddenly my phone restarted, Since then the phone keeps restarting as soon as it reaches the home screen (waits for all the widgets to load) then restarts again.
I am now making a nandroid backup.
Anybody else facing the problem?
Possible fixes?
Thanks

Sorry, I got frustrated and now flashing a new ROM.
That's fine then, definitely the best choice...
Random reboots are mostly accredited to kernel and not ROM. (however possible in ROM as well).
First thing you should do next time if such thing happens is to flash stock boot or use a different boot then u are currently using.

I did the same, Returned to full stock. But then the problem occurred again after I finished setting up all my apps. Also I found out what the problem was.
The issue is with the latest update of DoubleTwist Music Player App. As soon as I installed that app and opened it, My phone froze and then the restarting issue started. Then I removed the app apk from Recovery and now it works fine.
So anyone having this issue try the above solution.
I'm using Beanstalk on my phone and I get a lot of random reboots. Mostly when I'm unlocking the phone. I press the button and the soft keys light up the phone freezes and 5 or so seconds later it reboots. It also happens during calls sometimes when I take the phone away from my face and the screen turns on and sometimes when I'm listening to music. It's also happened a few times while I was using the phone. I don't restore any data(unless you count the apps that automatically reinstall from the playstore when I boot the phone, and a few apks from blackmart) I've tried reflashing but that was only a temporary fix. I always have problems with roms being really buggy even though I always to clean flashes.
Can someone help me to fix this? I use this device to play music over a sound system for crowds of people so I really need this bug fixed. (preferably without reflashing but I will if need be.)
maybe try this

Try Doing a Full Wipe of Your Android System.
Use [TWRP_Recovery_2.7.0.0][Unofficial][quincyatt] Go into factory Wipe > Then Click Advance > Then Wipe Everything but your SD card .
Flash Beanstalk > then Wipe Cache and dalvik > then install PA Gapps > then Wipe Cache & Dalvik again then reboot, Also try installing > Polluti0n's Rom Patch!!
It worked wonders for me , Use Uber kernal & Set Govener to Whetle.
Happy Flashing , Any more Questions Please ask

If you are getting a status 7, your recovery needs updating.

Alright i managed to fix the damage but i'm back to beanstalk with cwm. (i had to go through cyanogenmod and put it on using rom manager)
I'm still getting the bugs though(as far as I can tell. I've had one reboot already)
CWM is now functioning normally.
You mentioned a kernel? How would I go about that? I'm still relatively new to rooted devices. So please provide a detailed step-by-step information if you can.

you can go to the Original Development thread and find the thread for the Uber kernel. pay attention cause one is for JB and the other for KK. whichever Beanstalk your running get the right kernel.
you will flash it just like you flash a rom, or more like you would flash the gapps. you don't have to start over flashing rom again, you are just flashing the kernel to it.
the reboots sound a bit off to me as if you are flashing completely clean, KK is very stable for me and most others. maybe try flashing rom twice as you can get 2 different reactions on 2 different flashes.
flash rom
flash rom again
gapps
boot and wait
reboot
go back and flash your kernel
make sure you get all your wipes in middle of all this.

You are not using twrp from the thread linked. Also do NOT use the twrp app for the recovery as my recovery is not found there. It can only be found in my thread. Flash it in recovery & you're good to go.

If you are using Beanstalk you should probably read the BeanStalk thread, both of these common problems (screen flicker and failure to wake) are solved with a Aroma package made by p0llution. You flash it in recovery and all is good. Link is in 1st post, right next to ROM link. You can also switch kernels and boot animations with same package.

I'll give you some slack 'cause I am still close enough to my first flash that I remember being full of questions, but at least read the OP and most recent pages in your ROM thread. You should skim through it all ideally but some are 100+ pages so....
Kernel switching in general does not require any ROM action, there are likely cases that it might be useful but I've never had a problem. You will need to ensure that the kernel is matched to your ROM; KitKat or Jellybean or whatever. I usually do it as I flash a ROM but I have gone back and installed a kernel on a running ROM plenty of times; Uber for instance was released after I had BeanStalk up and running, it is a good kernel so I switched to that.
As a more general point the Note is hard to brick, as long as you don't somehow mess up the recovery (CWM or TWRP) you are just a quick restore away from back to normal. Use the backup function in your recovery, it is your friend and savior. Keep a copy of the back-up on your PC (or Mac) and you will usually be golden.

If you are on BS Rom you should know that all you need to to know is on the OP post-the rom and the patch. The latter contains about 5 different kernels which you can switch betw. to your hearts content. The patch is n00bie proof to make your switches. Really hit BS OP.

Just like all the other kind gents adv'd, it's all in patch's OP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535857
Including polluti0n's patches thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50529734&postcount=854
He uses aroma installer, so when you flash it (personally, I did it with CWM) you don't need to wipe cache/dalvik nor wipe phone, he mentons this on patch's thread while answering questions I believe. The screenshots show you some differences between the kernels he has available, either CM, Uber or PAC.
Personally, I'm using PAC since for me it seemed to work better with the Xposed's Netflix workaround, whereas it didn't work that well with Uber.
Also, the patch provides fixes, for camera, screen flicker and such.. Give it a try, and you'll definitely love your phone more!
