Infrared Blaster IR 3.5mm adapter for V30?... - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hi!
I really like the Lg V30, but was somewhat disappointing when LG announces that it didnt include the IR blaster, and I really like and use it, since my phone also solves not to looking for other remote-controls of different devices.
I dont have the LG v30, and before make a big bucks investment, I would like to ask if may be some of the lucky members around here may check if this adapter may works as a solution to provide the lost IR functionality to the wonderful LG V30.
So, I was looking for the options, and the first that came was the 3.5mm IR adapter like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-3...hash=item51fba6c37a:m:mJ-DSCA2tCFlc_SjR3IfEaQ
or similar that are like a small rivet-head over the 3.5mm hole (there are several models like a 2cm stick long outside the phone or others that are like a "ball" or small "egg" outside the port that both are very bad options since in the pocket is almost for sure will broke and may be damage the 3.5mm port).
As far I may found, it seems that a difference on some android models that the rivet-head type not works, since the audio level voltage to the headphones (that the app uses for make the IR leds of the IR adapter work), is not enough strong to drive the IR leds, and this means a really short range of IR control or not working at all.
As far, the powerful Audio output hardware that the LG v30, make me wonder if the LG v30 could be a model that may be be able to manage this adapter.
So, if some help, or testing is possible, it would be very grateful.
thanks and best regards to all.

I just got my v30 and popped a 3.5 ir button in (like you described) and no, it does not work. I am very disheartened by this as I was really counting on it.

Hi!
First, thanks for take the test and share the info. Sadly to know that by now it is not working, so, as far, I would like to ask if You may try some other details in hope, that may get a hack or fix.
At first, may you share which of the available plug models did you try, there are some diferent, but some of them are with the tip conector splitted, with 2 quarters in metal contact and 2 quarters in plastic, so, may be need to turn the plug inside the 3.5mm hole slowly to try to make the plug get in contact with the internal electric contact of the phone for the tip.
Asfar I know, the plug works by making the IR pulses, using audio signal of somewhat high volume in order that the audio signal make the electric voltage to drive the IR Leds inside the adapter, so I wonder, if may be enable Hi-Fi mode with high volume, may help to activate the IR Leds and send the pulses
Also, if posible, may you could check the IR plug activation, looking through other digital camera, so, digital cameras may show in the preview as the remotes IR pulses like with lights on screen of the camera even that is not visible for human eye.
Please excuse me for the above requests, but, if may be posible for you to test, would be great if may get the IR lug working with some trick or something.
Thanks for kind attention and reply.
Best regards.

I tested the IR blaster attachment with the v30 that I was using with an old iPhone. It recognizes the IR blaster in the zaza remote app, but it doesn't fire. Meanwhile, same app on the iPhone 6s, same IR blaster it works flawlessly. Could be because some are meant for the iPhone and same are meant for Android, but this one does not work with v30. It does work with the iPhone tho strangely.

I was in the same boat.. I have an 3.5mm ir blaster for my HTC 10 but didn't work for V30. searching around I found this IRBlaster still waiting for it to come. Will let you know.

Please let us know I am looking for a IR blaster that works with the v30

I have a V30 (AT&T) and I built one using YouTube as a guide. It works with the zaza remote app if you you enable the HiFi quad DAC and set it to normal with the volume all the way up. You have to press the remote buttons several times to get it to register on the TV. Not as reliable as a built in blaster, but it does work.

iv'e tried the 3.5mm IR but it didn't work with my lg v30. decided to buy the USB C ROCK IR blaster:
https://www.fasttech.com/products/8409100
working like a charm! i'm using the zaza remote app, and so far every single device works flawlessly. the range is also amazing! (i can point it in the opposite direction and it still works!). also, it's small enough to fit with my Tech21 case on (just barely), and it works well with the Ringke Onyx case
i highly recommend this for anyone who wan't to be able to use the IR with the lg v30. allready buying a second one
edit: i see that Baseus has also come up with their own device. it seems to be even smaller (and will probably fit cases without much usb port clearance). worth checking out:

Headphone adaptor

I've seen a few threads about headphone adaptors, but haven't seen a definitive answer to my query, so I hope I'm not going over old ground.
I'm looking for a cable that plugs into my Wizard (O2 XDA Mini-S) at one end and at the other end has a mic, a clip (to attach it to clothes), and a socket for standard 3.5mm headphones - through which it will provide true stereo (not dual mono) sound. It needs to be a reasonable length, so that I can have my phone in my pocket and clip the mic to my collar.
If it can provide FM radio into the bargain (and take any necessary power from the Wizard) that'd be even better, but it's by no means essential.
Any recommendations (especially in the UK)?
Thanks,
Robb
Whoo Hoo!
I've been keeping an eye out for something like this too... and I think I've finally found some!
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=202331964&listingid=11338726&dcaid=17902
http://www.aftermarketcellular.com/ic/ARM010VSEB.html
I'm going to do a bit more shopping before I buy anything but I'll post a review once I do.
check this out http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=140285
I'd be afraid the Samsung one wouldn't work with the Wizard. It says several times it is for the listed models ONLY. It might be a standard plug, but I seem to recall seeing someone posting (probly on another forum) about problems using some 2.5mm connectors with the Wizard. The LG one might have the same problem, but both could also work fine.
I really like that HTC Bluetooth one! I wonder if I can get it in the US. How good is the sound quality over bluetooth?
It's true, not all 2.5 mm plugs are wired the same. I've had to open up the last one I bought and rewire it to make it work with the Wizard.
Watch Expansys - their web site (and their staff) are wrong.
Like many people on this forum, I have an O2 XDA Mini-S. When looking for a headphone adapter, I searched for a 'htc wizard headphone adapter' and was led to this unit by the search: http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=127181
When you look at this adapter you can see that it includes this unit: http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=118289
This is actually a different animal. This has a Mfr Part #: PPCPADPT15,eXpansys Code: 118289. This is an adapter for an O2 XDA III, not a Mini-S (it says so on the envelope)
When I repeat my search on PPCTech's web site I get this page (via tinyurl) http://tinyurl.com/2hkdym This shows that the adapter for an HTC wizard, or an O2 Mini-S is actually a PPCPADPT11, not a PPCPADPT15.
I tried to return the adapter and asked for the correct adapter for my phone only to be told by an arrogant and ignorant sales person that what I have is the correct adapter. He's been "selling these for four years and he knows what he is talking about" I tell him that sound only comes from one earpiece, and he says this is normal - you only get mono from this adapter. Utter rubbish!
Has anyone else worked out if the PPCPADPT11 is correct? If so, how did they convince eXpansys?
Cheers

Just the speaker works, the button and mike don't. I don't know if I broke something but it has got a 4 ring 2.5mm jack. it also aught to be pretty easy rewiring because of the standard 4p4c modular RJ10 connector. According to their website it should: "will work with most phones (Motorola, LG, Samsung)".
I've done some sporadic attempts to find a wiring schemes of the Wizard's jack connector but hadn't have much luck, would love to go B100 style sometimes!!!

I noticed on the that site is says the internal microphone will not work. Does that mean the jack only has 2 poles? A left/right audio out. No audio in for a microphone?
I am looking for an adapter i can use with an Iphone headset with line mic.

[Q] HDMI Cable (not docking station)

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I did a search and couldn't find anything on it. I'd like to get a docking station, but more importantly I would like to have a cable that has HDMI out. This would be "just a cable", and I'd like it to not go through a dock. The reason is for travel. I can handle wrapping up a cable and stuffing it in a suitcase or something, but I don't want to lug a docking station around.
Anyone know if there's "just a cable" for this thing yet? Thanks.
I have seen this come up before and as I recall nobody knew of one.
Do you realize how small the dock is? It's < 5" long by 3" deep by 2" tall - very compact. Weighs a bit more than the stock power adapter, mostly because they added ballast for stability. It is very portable.
My recommendation: buy a dock and forget about obscure cables that may never exist.
If you check out the original thread covering the Zpad Docks you'll see that itSteve has been passing on details of the pin-outs to someone who was looking into making an HDMI cable. I haven't seen a conclusion to this yet, but if one does become available I'm sure you'll see it make a splash in this forum.

Correct, that would be huge. BUT, there were questions in regards to it needing power to that port and people were unsure if one could be made. I would LOVE to see that tho.

I personally would prefer a cable over a dock. I would only use it for watching movies on my LCD Tv. Wow one more post and I will ascend to another plane!

Yeah I would prefer a cable to a dock as well
Can anyone link to the pin-out for the connector? Also, does anyone know if the connector is a standard type that could be ordered form a component supplier?

Use Search... I and others have posted much on this before. If there was a quick viable solution, the forum will be screaming with it as soon as it appears. Not any time soon unfortunately.
Power needed for HDMI?
I've noticed that without the power plugged into the dock, neither the HDMI nor the ethernet ports work. Wouldn't such a cable then need to supply power as well?
This would most certainly be a huge benefit. I plan on using my GTab for business as well as work. Would be great if a simple cable was available as opposed to the dock. I know the dock is small, but the inconvenience is still there.
There are times I have 15 minutes to get setup and present to potential clients. If I could just plugin a cable, it would be golden!!

Nope but here is a thread with someone in China who "says" they are working on it.

There was a post buried in one of the threads, that stated it's the same connector that apple uses. I will confirm this weekend.

Very interesting! Would of just flew by me in that aspect. If this is true, then we can potentially use the ipod to hdmi port that was made for the 4th gen ipods and iphones. Let me know how that turns out. We probably have to create drivers for it though.
"The Viewsonic Tablet also has a 30 pin iPod like connector on the bottom that's used for -- well, nothing at the moment. There is not even any associated cable in the box. It's not actually iPod/iPad compatible, and very sadly, it is not the new PDMI standard. Theoretically, Viewsonic will be coming out with cables and docks that break this connector out into HDMI, charging, USB, etc. Again, it's only theoretical at the moment, but the G-Tablet should be able to crank 720p HD Video out that port. Also seen at the left of the unit in the following picture is the tiny hole for the microphone."
According to
w w w . linuxslate . o r g/Review_Viewsonic_G-Tablet_Android_Tablet.html
**EDIT**
Checked and the ipod version is 30 pin also.... sooooooo i wonder if they line up with the ipod version. The above is probably stating that this has no drivers as of yet, but doesnt mean that devs cant attach a kernal that enables whatever pin to do whatever.
Or is there a certain suit that has to follow? like pin 1 (+ hdmi power) or whatever. Thanks

Even if the connector fits, I'll bet big money the pinout is completely different. No big deal, I just need to find the mating connector. I can make a cable (would have to put an active chip in it to get HDMI output and find power on the connector).
People with a sansa player cable claim it fits, but I wasted $20 on a "sansa break out cable"from a company called Kinetica, but it does not fit......but it fits the I pad.....I told them about it and they claim it is different than than the I pad connector....I tried......
A really quick eyeball inspection seems to show the connector to be *very* similar to the apple docking connector. I'm kind of half-heartedly trying to fidget and see how the plug is modded to fit.
But above all else, I'm no expert. Just someone who wants to see if the plug can be tricked into fitting without wrecking my gtab.

Fiio E07k works with the Xperia Z Ultra

I finally got around to trying it out and seeing if it would work.
It does.
Micro USB OTG to mini USB cable. It's not pretty, and I know some people on ebay make it, but I have lots of these individual cables around, so I figured I'd Frankenstein then together.
Works awesomely. Stock, unrooted phone. Also works with my Xperia ZL.

To clarify, when I said people in eBay make it, I was referring to a single cable with a micro on one side and a mini on the other. I haven't tested to see if those work.
Sent from my C6806 using Tapatalk
what does it do?
Takes the audio processing away from the phone and also amplifies the headphones. Cleaner and more powerful sound.

Thanks a lot for the pics! I will make a decision today about which one to buy.
When using as a DAC, do you still get the Sound Enhancements/X-Clarity options to work or only the dac settings work at that time?
I have fiio e6 about 2 yrs. Now I needed an upgrade I'm about to get the e17. Want to try dac. Like also to know if the sound enhancement works on dac.

nice find! Alternatively a cheaper, more portable option might be to pick up a bluetooth receiver with audio out that supports APTX. That way it gives you wireless audio that is higher fidelity and bypasses the Xperia Z Ultra's internal DAC. The BlueAnt bluetooth streamer here looks good and is pretty cheap at ~$29. You can just get rid of the crappy earphones it comes with and use your own. However one of the reasons for using a headphone amp like the Fiio is to also boost the output to drive certain headphones that need it.
More on aptX here
You can always get some very nice Harmon Kardon headphones with aptX built in like these
The BlueAnt Ribbon is the one I have and suggested it to a user in another thread here.

Can you please test the Sound Enhancement/X-Clarity features with the DAC to see if they still do anything to the signal?
I would think they wont work but not sure.
Also I read this at headfi from a FiiO rep
"Also , we will not suggest our users use our E7,E07K, or E17 work as extra DAC for your android phone, because all will consume power from your phones, the only difference is how many current. "
Since I use my phone on the dock that is not such a problem but still curious if this is real..not sure why it would need to draw more voltage from our phone.
I don't believe it works outside of the Walkman app.
That's OK, though, because I'd seems to crash the bass and make the highs far too shrill.
Sent from my C6806 using Tapatalk
As for the headfi post, make sure you turn off the USB charge option on the DAC.
Sent from my C6806 using Tapatalk
Good point. I guess all the controls I need will be in the E17 anyways.
I am thinking this could be a good OTG adapter to avoid a mess of cables, unless I find a right angle connector micro otg to mini that is.
This solution works so great. I would use it on an airplane to provide the headphones a little bit more power. The end result: batteries in the phone last longer and the sound is vastly improved.

Just make sure to use some decent closed headphones.

Make sure the cable is OTG. I just bought a direct OTG mini to micro cable off that big auction site and it works awesome (without the frankenstein cable combo I originally photographed).
hahaha I just ordered a micro to micro OTG too (the E18 uses micro not mini) to get rid of the extensions crap lol
Yeah, letting the audio be handled by an offboard DAC is the way to go if you are sitting or walking around the house. For when I go on a jog, I use either the aptX adapter or for wired connections, the EO6.
And how big is The difference in sound quality?
I have xperia z ultra too and amping it with E12 for Focal Spirit Classic
I have considered to try E07k exactly the same way but am not sure about worthynes of this solution in sound quality point

[Q] Recommendations for a game controller?

Hey there!
Curious if anyone has any recommendations on a game controller for the Nexus 6. I am looking for something that attaches to the phone and doesn't require my phone to be rooted. I have looked into the ipega 9023 because all of the others look like they cannot handle a device of this size. Any help is much appreciated!

Probably not something you're willing to do, but since way back when, when I had my Droid Razr, I used a Wii Controller with the attachment, because it linked via Bluetooth. There is an app that doesn't require root on the Play Store to use it by essentially using it as a keyboard attachment. As long as the game supports mapping buttons though, I would imagine any Bluetooth controller would work the same way. I don't see why you would need a root for that to work.

I am looking for something that attaches to the nexus 6 making it one handheld device. I could use a Wii remote, but then I would have to prop my phone on something to play a game.
first of all the xbox 360 usb controller works like a charm when connected via usb otg, secondly i suggest you make something like they did in this video. it wont be pretty but it will work
http://technabob.com/blog/2013/09/02/make-your-own-nvidia-shield/
or check this out and see if it works for the nexus 6 http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Smart-Clip-Xbox-One/dp/B00FLLFM0Q
or even better, this http://utorcase.com/
I also don't know of an attachable controller but I do recomment the SteelSeries Free combined with a case that has a kickstand. I have 2 and I play games when parked with my N6 mounted in the windshield. Car audio combined with the N6 killer screen is pretty awesome.
I bought the Moga Pro Power for $80, only to be extremely disappointed that almost none of the games that support Moga, support it in Lollipop, but do in kit kat. As if now, its useless for my phone which sucks because this thing is the perfect size for gaming, in due time it should work well.
I'm still thinking something like GameKlip casemount + PS3. I had this on my S3.
I use a PS3 controller with my N6 and did the same on my previous phone the S4. However, in order to use it properly, you need to be able to run SixAxis Controller and that needs root.
PS You live fairly close to me. The people who used to live in my house moved 15 miles away to Oxenhope - Yorkshire FTW.

You only need to use six axis for a wireless (blue tooth ) connection.. When I bought my gameklip for s3, it came with a really small usb cable and OTG. Its not the tidiest solution, but it works.
The main issue with game pads is the lack of compatibility. Having to map touch controls can be pretty painful too.
What I'm actually doing is buying a cling universal game pad.. Its not a gamepad at all though. It just sticks the handles on the phone so you can hold it like one, though it will probably need sawing in half to extend it to fit

I think that will work great with driving games if you don't mind using tilt for steering.
Still, no way around poor control for FPS games though. The main issue is if you use left thumb for movement and right for aim, you can't do both and shoot at the same time.. I wish you could buy clip on shoulder buttons that have an adjustable capacitive pen "nib' to touch parts of the screen. I've designed it in my head but nothing I can do to make that a reality. Why can't they just make all games game pad compatible?
Yeah, i love it in Oxenhope.lovely part of the world. Where did they move to? Where are you?

I tried to PM you since this is decidedly off topic but I live in Ilkley and they moved to the cluster of houses a few hundred metres before that really tight right-hand bend on Hebden Bridge Road (on the way out to Hebden Bridge). I was brought up in East Yorks but I always loved the moors in West and North Yorks.

Ahh I know Ilkley. Nice place.. I can't imagine where you mean on Hebden Bridge road. Near Pecket Well?.
I'm from cleethorpes originally. Not far from what is now east York's. Though it was North Humberside when I grew up there
Sorry for OT, OP
I've caved. Going for PS3

Note 10+ Teardown / Not enough place for Jack the door ?

Here's the video :

My opinion is that there were enough room to save Jack but Samsung won't for commercial reasons.
Just watch a S10+ teardown to see as small a jack is.

my opinion,
thinner phone to maintain symmetry and a larger display for grip. removal of audio Jack to prevent introduction of structural vulnerability due to thinner phone.
a dedicated DAC from usbc to Jack may be more premium than a builtin one. also, more and more people are jumping to wireless solution. this will help galaxy buds as well.

You're maybe right, but the Note10+ is thicker than the S10+ wich have the jack. But as I said, maybe you're right.

I totally agree with that. BUT... several DAC manufacturer (like ibasso) have stopped to support Samsung Galaxy phones (includind S9, S10, Note9 and Note10) due to a "non regular" USB-C wiring.

Hmm, I hope my TempoTec Sonata HD Hi-Res dongle will work on Note 10. I like it and it works fine on my Pixel 2. Edit: Just tested the aforementioned dongle on S10e and it works nicely!

no worries.
note 10+ vs note 9 has a difference of 0.9mm thickness.
s10+ vs s9+ has a difference of 0.7mm thickness.
many possibilities.
we can see note 10+ has an extensive reduction in thickness probably to compensate the slightly wider body than note 9.
probably due to survey or demands or market research, they figured battery usage pattern for note means priority for a larger battery capacity.
dedicated dac may be a better solution if any audiophiles want quality audio.
there is an increasing trend of people opting for TWS earbuds due to the convenience of listening to one bud at any point of time, youtube video for example don't need stereo.
support galaxy buds
digital device should have less analog components.

Maybe all of you are right, but being skeptic as I'm, I would speculate that this is all BS (having better DAC doesn't mean you can't have headphone jack, USB C always had pins for analog audio etc.) I would speculate installing headphone jack may cost let's say 50 cents, multiply that by lets say 20 million phones, they get to save cool $10M. It was the main reason that Crapple did it and every sheep followed sooner or later. And headphone jack is not only for headphones, I have tools that communicate with phone over headphone jack and now they won't work anymore. It's really bad when Samsung starts penny pinching on their $1k flagship phones, because it wasn't lack of space for missing heart rate monitor, or tiny notification LED.
