Hi All,
i will like to check from the users of Acro-S when you do a zoom function when in camera mode, does your screen shows bad quality pictures as in pixelation?
I tried with the various scene modes and whenever the zoom function is utilised, the quality goes off the scale.
Wrote to the local (SG) SONY support team and the reply indicated this is a known issue and nothing will be done.
Is there anyway we can make good the situation? Is really a waste to see the camera function put to waste with only non zoom pictures taken.
thanks

Acro S (like as all xperia phones) has a digital zoom - zoomed picture is same as cropped small from normal picture! If you take 3X zoomed shoot with 5Mp resolution, you got 1,6Mp resolution picture!
Thanks for this information. Others sony phone have this issue?

Xperia S has basically the same camera so also the same "issue". But there's not really something Sony can do about it. There are two ways to zoom, you can keep the same sensor size and increase the image on the sensor with a lens, but that would also make the phone much bigger (it would basically be a compact camera).
Since lenses are not going to be used on a phone, the only solution is to take a sample of your sensor, but as Lietotajs said you lose a lot of detail. The only phone out now that zooms well is the Nokia Pureview 808 because it has a 41MP sensor. If you zoom 3x, you still have 13MP left. But that camera module is also something you don't just put on any phone, it would make our Xperia's twice as thick.
Hi to all,
This phone look so good. I have OP5 and i want better phone with better camera. I have some questions:
1. Slow motion - is the same 120fps at 720p or it is 240fps at 1080p?
2. Time Lapse - can it record at 4K? At which speed? ( x6, x10, x36 etc...)
3. Is there a portrait mode?
4. Point zoom - can it be use in time laps?
I see many videos but i really cant find slow motion and time laps.
And if you can chose between wide angle and telephoto x2 what will you chose?
P. S. Did you think the LG V30 have good zoom that doesn't lost so much details when you zoom x2 or x8?
It's 720p @120fps
Time lapse won't be at 4k for any Android
No portrait mode as no telephoto lense.
I will go with wide angle any day as I am into taking pics that can gather larger data ( field of view) and not much into taking pics of people ( telephoto is basically and better used for this)
Thx a lot for answer. Too bad that V30 (multimedia phone) didn't have 240fps.
I have a new question, did V30 have same hardware front face camera like LG G6? Because G6 have very bad front face camera.

Hi I don't have the phone but trying to get as much information about it as possible, as far as I understand the front camera is exactly the same module as the G6, it's basic, and selfie lovers as well as bloggers are supposed to be using the rear camera instead. For front camera performance the HTC U11 as well as the Nokia 8 phones are recommended.

I don't know if it is the "exact" same camera, but every review I've seen says it inferior to most if not all the other flagship phones (S8, note 8, U11, iPhone and so on).
It a bit of a let down, but I don't really use the front camera, so not a big deal to me.

Yes i see that LG V30 have better back camera much more clear and bettwr then Note8.
A few months back I upgraded my phone from op2 to LG g5 H860.
So, I've been playing around with my phone and I noticed that my camera pictures are grainy. Seems like pictures taken on a 5mp (or lesser) camera.
I took pictures with my camera (all default settings and auto mode) without any zoom and after capturing I tried to zoom in into the picture, like 20% zoom to notice that they are very noisy. I'm not so good at photography, so I never bothered to check this kind of stuff with my other phones before.
I have taken pictures with both rear and front cameras and they both look very noisy. Like water color painted pictures. I'm not sure if I'm putting the right words here but I think you get what I am talking about. I am adding a sample attachment.
Can someone tell me if this is normal or am I missing something here or if there's some problem with my phone itself?
I am already frustrated that I can't unlock my bootloader and I hope this wouldn't add more to it.
Do you tried clear the lenses?

Man, I had the same exact problem.. buy new lens.
Try manual mode and turn down the iso speed. Sometimes higher iso speeds produce heavy grain. See if that helps any.

I had this problem as well. I turned off HDR under settings and that fixed it.
Anybody here tried some lens for the P20/P20P camera? What model you tried and how does it perform?!?
Here is one using 52mm star 8+ under night mode
i'd love love a good wide angle one. i almost regret selling my v30 and upgrading to this. never use the zoom, but would have used wide angle as my default. anyone? the post above looks good clean enough at 52mm

IMHO, the p20 pro cameras all work in tandem, at least the 40mp + 10mp monochrome. You will suffer from diminished quality since your universal lens addon is only attached to one lens.

It wasnt anounced that they worked together, but they have in the past so they probably do. We'll see, I might try one if nobody else does.

You can try but based on what I know, you will be making some sacrifices here and there.
For instance, there are a bunch of sensors used for colour detection and a focus sensor sandwiched between the colour and zoom lens. If you use those clip on lenses you will be blocking the sensors.
The cameras I'm 99.999999999% sure they work together. That's the whole point of their marketing. A dedicated monochrome sensor to enhance image quality etc etc.
With multiple cameras in our phones these days, aftermarket add on lens means you get more trade offs when you use one of them.
i recently ordered one off Amazon. An AUKEY one for $10cdn
thinking having the wide angle would come in handy.
I will report back the quality of the pics when its clipped on. If im not satisfied, i will simply return it.

Yep. The phone uses at least two of the sensors together, if not all three.
Taken using a 0.45x super wide angle lens under night mode.
Can you take a picture with and without that wide lens so we can see the difference?

I got one of these for my old phone, didn't know what to expect
This is where ois really plays a part.
Did you know how many times it says "ONE POUND" on a one pound coin,?
From the macro I got I could see it !!
Amazing
25 times
Those bobbles aren't bobbles. They're words.
I'd recommend it so long as they're high grade. No plastic holders
Good morning,
Any link to buy it, or trade?

I don't have it with me pal.
The macro and the Tele lenses were the best if I recall correctly.
I'm sure there are images online.
I'm on the 8/256 GB Reno 10x Zoom global. After getting ColorOS 7 I noticed a feature missing. Before the update the camera used to stitch together a combination of telephoto and main lenses when zooming between 3x and 4.9x, before switching to the telephoto exclusively for 5x and beyond. Now on ColorOS 7, anything under 5x is just pure digital zoom and it looks like garbage. Have hard reset my phone twice and reinstalled the whole OS just to make sure it wasn't an error on my unit specifically. Anyone know anything about this?
I can't post the link but googling
"3x-4.9x uses the main camera and telephoto camera."
Brings you to the Oppo page related to this feature
just my opinion
The telephoto lens is locked on 5x, so there is no way it can give you anything below it. Even if you go above 5x, then digital zoom will interfere
During the launch, this phone was providing 6x setup as Telephoto's 5x + digital touchup. This was done to maintain the focal length among cameras
i think this update did justice to the camera's hardware specifications.

You have no clue what you're talking about. The 5x telephoto lense kicks in at 5x and anything under is digital. If you have nothing useful to add don't bother sharing.
Also...here's some screens of 1x, 2x, 5x and 10x of a garment sat 2 feet away using video mode.
Also...quit the rudeness. If I'm wrong, I will say so if proven to be. I had the assumption that digital zoom was a compliment to optical zoom to achieve closer detail above and beyond optical capability. That's all.
As you can see...10x is more blurry...hence digital zoom
If I am wrong, please discuss and enlighten me, but avoid rudeness

Kicking off your comment with "what are you on?" Is the only rudeness I see here. Your screenshot is in video mode, and the telephoto doesn't record video so zoom will always be digital. That's entirely unrelated to the topic at hand.

Actually below 5x it used to use the telephoto for the center of the image and the digital data from the main sensor for the edges, making it clear in the middle and fuzzy on the outsides when zooming 3x-4.9x. And it doesn't anymore unfortunately

Wide...1x...2x...5x....10x
Subject approximately ½ metre from device, so I would fully expect clearer photos in 5x and 10x were they to be optically rendered. They are not clearly, which leads to believe what I was saying about digital vs optical. I'm open to learning about this in more detail, so please discuss this
The zoom lens don't Focus in close objects, that's why they are blurry.

I see, misunderstanding. I do apologize. And yes the camera has been done much justice by this update. The Reno 10x feels far better and I fell in love with the phone again. The software finally matches up with the hardware.
I have no complaints nother than the one feature that is now missing. The mode I'm on is photo. Video never used the wide or telephoto to begin with (unfortunately) so what I'm speaking on only applies to photo mode.

As for this point, the telephoto lense is able to zoom so far because it actually isn't focusing light until an object is about 5 to 6 feet away. Your subject looked blurry because it was too close for the 5x lense. That's tne downside of a far reaching zoom lense, you can't get close to your subject. That's the difference between 5x macro and 5x zoom. I've never been able to photograph anything closer than 6 feet with the telephoto lense

zoom lens has a large focal length for capturing distant objects, if too close it will not be visible because it is in focus, the principle of seeing glass converge
He is referring to the image fusion technique which uses both main lens (for the borders) and zoom lens (for the center) between 3-4.9x, you can check DXOMark's review for more details.
Although this technique creates better resolution on center (as it is using the 5X zoom lens), it also creates artifacts which is not easily fixable.
I seldom use this range so it's not important to me. What we are waiting is video function using all lens, which is already implemented with ColorOS 7.1 update on Reno 5G (CPH1921) and Reno 10X China version (PCCM00), but not on Reno 10X Global (CPH1919) yet.

I don't suppose the ColorOS 7.1 update on the Reno 5g added RAW file support did it? (I am not expecting it to, but it's my most desired feature [more so than video on the other lenses])
