So I went canoeing on a lake with my phone unprotected from a ziplock bag. Lesson learned....
My intial thinking is that nothing would happen because I have never flipped a canoe before.
Water was cold, almost suffered from hypothermia and drowned from a not so sudden death.
My fiance had a life jacket on, thank bajebus. And our unborn child is A okay, my phone was not.
So I get a replacement from walmart, out 200 dollars. But I really love this model of android phone.
Now the one I bought from is pretty much a paper weight and im not sure what parts in the phone still work.
The walmart l9 P679blk came with 10g firmware, sucks because I have not found anything pertaining a potential successful root effort.
And I did not really stop to think, is it going to come with the new firmware with a stock phone.
So just to update everyone on the status of stock firmware. Yes, 10g does come with the phone now. Thanks Lg and thanks tmobile.

Even I don't now what to say on such post. But felt bad for his accident.

Are you sure you didn't just accidently allow it to update when you turned it on? I just bought one from Walmart recently too (post 10g). When I booted it up the first time it had 10e, but asked me if I wanted to upgrade it.

that is lie.
all T-Mobile L9 were manufactured before 2013, 10g not released at that time.
the only way to get it from ota after turning on the phone.

p76910g released at the end of January, in the market retail sealed package it is impossible with 10g in unless he got opened box item.
I purchased couple L9s from Wal-Mart, the T-Mobile prepaid package is impossible to re-seal once been opened.

Thanks again cmahendra, you once again seem like a nice guy.
I understand where the other guy is coming from. I'm no expert with smartphones. Well, slightly. I am going to college for Information Technology.
But really, no lies here. I have enough problems in my personal life to be lieing to a group of people on a forum. That firmware version is what came with the phone. I did no update, nothing was pushed. Matter of fact, I first used the phone with no wifi or sim card in my phone. I did all of that to make sure what build was running.
I do appreciate your feedback though, I have no reason what so ever to be mad at you for calling me a liar. And I understand the comment you left. I to have looked that information up. I was surprised because I thought that I would be getting what I paid for via tmobile store in the late of last month. "the 27th of jan to be exact."
Touchy story, but quite off-topic.

Just bought the Verizon moto e at best buy and have it working on t mobile but want to install custom roms.
Sadly it does not. Just bought mine today as a secondary device.
I am just hoping that someone can do something to unlock that bootloader (could the stagefright vulnerability be used to do some things since it does have some root capabilities?) or at least get the device loki'd.

i bought it for the same reason at best buy to uses as a backup for myself or a friend of family member. Just like you i was curious about rooting and custom roms for it. Sadly i found out by trying to follow the tutorial to unlock the bootloader and when i went to Motorola website for the unlock code it said my device couldn't be unlocked :crying:
Before i picked up the Moto e i seen on XDA the Verizon variant could be used on any service so i didn't even think twice to see if it was unlock-able before trying.
Just now wile typing this it actually got me thinking and the thought of the Verizon variant being able to be used on. got me wondering.
Under the hood of the Verizon Moto e is the hardware exactly the same as the other variants or are there more radios for the Verizon network? I ask this because if its the same would there be someway to install the international variant bootloader on the Verizon variant and then unlock it?
if that sounds very stupid im sorry lol. I don't know very much about unlocking devices besides how to follow tutorials of how to unlock a device. But i do know how to flash and install things im kind of a flashaholic thats one reason i looked to unlock this device right away
Verizon as is already annoys me by how there devices have locked bootlaoders thankfully someone found a workaround for the G3, but seeing how this is a prepaid device that customers pay in full for i don't see why they have to lock it down...
$9.99 from bestbuy, it's the best budget phone. I made it work under t-mobile.

Can't overwrite the bootloader since it is locked, the partition is locked to read. However, I was thinking, since it has that 5.1 update, it must've written to the system partition and which case I wonder if a fake update of some kind be used. Kingoroot also somehow can mount and write to the system partition through their rooting process, if someone can figure how it does that, there is hope for this version.
There is also the possibility of someone developing loki for this phone too, which would bring at least some custom action to this.
Verizon does some weird things, both it and AT&T, I just don't understand them. AT&T locks down the device and sometimes they even get updates that were released for the phone. Verizon declines other phones which people want. Anyways, we only paid $10 for phone, couldn't say no to that, right? Unlocked SIM and if they do find a workaround, just cherry on top of the icing.

+1 - cant beat the price.
With so many of these out there now, I think its only a matter of time until someone figures out the bootloader and rom questions.

I hope so, would really suck to stay on 5.1 and miss out on any security updates, etc.
But from the looks of scanning through part of the forum, no seems to be taking on the task of figuring out a way to do so. The one guy that was trying had school that took over his time and then there are no other threads about it.
Yeah, I hope that you are right that all these new devices out there will spark something.
Hello All!
I am fairly new to the site, and not too tech savvy, but I'm having some problems with my Verizon LG V10 I bought about 3 months ago.
I bought the unit from eBay for 300 dollars in new condition (a steal if you ask me), and it's been working great, but I have been having issues updating my phone.
I am aware that Marshmallow is out for the V10 on Verizon, yet whenever I click on check for updates, it always says no upgrade is available.
As most of you probably know, Verizon phones are unlocked, and I am using an H20 sim card, putting the phone in international mode. My question is that I'm wondering if that is the problem, or is there something else?
Thanks for your help
I thought all the V10's shipped with Marshmallow.

They actually don't.
I bought this one off of ebay, and it came with 5.1.1
I even tried the Verizon Software Updater, and thought I had it, only to find out that nothing changed, I really want to get a hold of the battery life optimization in Marshmallow
You won't get Verizon updates on another network or outside North America.
Download the kdz and upgrade it yourself
please provide kdz file working link, nowhere i can find it.
Just checked and got the update available after a LONG wait and God knows how many checks.
Forgot to mention
Sorry forgot to mention it is just a shade over 1500 megabyte.
Yeah, since I'm not expecting root for us for a while, I went ahead and downlaoded it yesterday.
Exact size was 1505.68mb I believe.
Honestly kind of liked the old quick toggles better.
I'm happy we finally got the update and so far so good. I had hoped the long wait past the other US carriers meant 7.1 but I pretty much new that's all it was, hope. Miss the ability to go into settings with long press of the recents button. I'm watching the battery usage to see how it does for me as I have heard varying reports from great to horrible.
Whoo hoo, just got it too, look all 3 of us ATT G5 users, lol...
I'm with cricket, so i won't get the OTA. I was trying to check through LG Bridge but it keeps telling me "cannot check the sofware version." Anyone else have this issue?

I received the same error through the LG Bridge. I'm using an unlocked H820 on T-Mobile, so I cannot get the OTA either.

Yeah, I definitely think it does. I had read elsewhere that you have to have an active AT&T SIM card in the phone to get the update. That appears to be true. A coworker of mine is letting me use his AT&T SIM and now it's now downloading the update. I found that I had to check multiple times to get it to show. Since you can only check once per 24 hours, I manually changed the date to later in February and it worked with the AT&T SIM. It's still downloading, but it's 1.5GB so it has to be Nougat.
I'm outside the US, I tried the OTA and LG Bridge with my SIM unlocked H820. I can't really buy a new device since I don't have the money for it. I am incredible disappointed with this device and ATT. I will never buy from LG again.
Hey I have a G5 too! I'm excited to get home and Download this.
Mine started the update then said that the download failed... Now each time i try to check for a new update it tells me there are no updates available? Any suggestions to kick start the update?
LG G5 US AT&T here. Did the OTA update about 28 hrs ago now, and it went very smoothly. So far, I'm super pleased with the update. My phone feels faster and smoother all around, and while it's too early to tell for certain, it seems initially like batter life is noticeably improved.
I'm outside the US. Using an unlocked H820. I got an AT&T SIM card from a friend, tried updating and got a message saying my device is up to date (So no Nougat update yet). I did this with mobile data off while I was connected to Wifi. Don't have too much experience with this - Are there any specific things I need to take care of before trying to update or is it enough to just insert the SIM card and try updating? Thanks!
I'm happy we got "an update".
However, so far I'm skeptical of any battery life improvements. I suspect that Bluetooth drain is actually higher than before. And general standby drain may also be 2% or so higher...
How many cats have you all caught with the new "Easter egg?" Kinda lame, but funny too.
I don't have the fingerprint option now! Weird
I bought an unlocked h820 from b and h, when I chek for software updates it says that is up to date but im on marshmellow, what can I do?
****, didn't realize this would kill pdanet's wifi tethering. Wish I could go back.

Buy an AT&T SIM and activate it, that's the only way.

unfortunately theres no way to root H831 as of now due to locked bootloader.
Apparently I have been able to root my H831...
I recently had my 4 month old LG 5 overheat and quit working. I returned it to the Cell phone provider (FreedomvMobile) who sent it to Futuretel in Ontario as the authorized repair centre in Canada.
They have informed me that I have rooted the phone and therefore it is not covered under warranty. I did not know what rooting was until I googled it. I have not rooted the phone. They are refusing to fix the phone. They say that the test of the phone is conclusive and that it was rooted. It was not. Does anyone have any idea if there are other causes that would make the technician at Futuretel think that it was rooted? I need some information before I go even further with this ridiculous response from Futuretel. Help!

The tech is scamming you. Been there done that. Send a message to LG global through Facebook. It will get replaced. They do not want a bad rep.

Any word on Canadian bootloader yet?
Well, I went and signed for all it is worth. I still have a G5 in my collection and I would love to get it onto Lineage and let my son use it.
Really would like to root my phone as well :/
Still no news on rooting h831??
That is a good question. There was finally an update to Android 8.0 for our devices but I wonder if it made it so they can be unlocked and whatnot...
I don't want to be negative, but I guess in the end we will have to sell this device and buy another one, just to have an unlocked bootloader and root

Well, I and my wife upgraded to Galaxy S9s this spring due to a seriously unbeatable deal. Had the G5 supported the AWS bands used by the new carrier we switched to, she would still have been using it but alas, nope.
We still have her LG G5 and my son uses it as an ipod of sorts. I would love to root the thing just so newer OS' can be installed on it as it will never be a phone again so I don't need to worry about things like tap to pay and such. I guess it getting to Android 8 will have to do.
Yeah, I would love to root if possible too but I understand that our device is not popular enough just as H850 is or H830.
Would be trying to sell this device and buy another one then...

Ya, see, there is one general complaint that fits this... I hate that there are so many damned models of each of the main model names... As in there is never really JUST an LG G5 or JUST a Galaxy S9.
If you look HARD enough there is a way to ROOT a H831. You have to use Marshmallow 6.0 and follow a small tutorial that you will find if you look HARD. I am not sure if you can roll back to v6.0 so you can force root but hey all you have to do is LOOK!

You can't downgrade from Oreo to Marshmallow so no root
