Can you do this on the stock firmware?
Do you have to root the device and change the ROM or just the Kernel?
I read somewhere you can tweak the device so that it charges at 1000 instead of 650ma, is this true ?
Any advice would be useful, thanks
Don't know about any tweaks, but using just a different charger would do some better,

Blimey I am surprised more people don't find the slow charging the biggest problem, I can cope with the phone draining the battery fast, this I can control by turning certain things off, but the extremely slow recharge is a killer.
I would prefer to be able to charge my battery in half the time and for the battery to only last half a year than to have to endure the terribly slow charging to have a battery last a year, at it would be nice to have the option, sometimes you simply just need to quickly charge your phone, other times like overnight, it can take as long as it likes
Your thread link above seems to suggest that even using a more powerful charger than stock will not increase charge time
You would need to flash a custom kernel with the maximum mA draw increased, ninphetamine kernel from my sig is one such kernel.
Just don't charge from USB. It's so much faster from the socket

Hi, when i charge my Samsung galaxy S2 and play a game at the same time, instead of battery gaining charge or remaining the same, it actually loses charge. Why is this? and how can i fix??
iPhones dont seem 2 lose charge they infact gain charge

nah even when i charge on my laptop it goes down as im playing games
it depends on which game u r playing. heavy 3d gaming with more than 50% brightness , then thats normal. but if u play angry bird and still got that dain then that a problem
yeah but even heavy 3d gaming on iphone doesnt drain the battery when its charging
I think it is normal if your charge goes down when playing heavy games while using the PC charger. This is because your PC's power output is too weak to keep your phone fully powered.
Do not say this does not happen on your iDevice because when I do heavy gaming on my iPad while charging from a PC the battery still drains. The only difference is that your iPad will claim that it isn't charging and your Galaxy SII will tell you that it is charging. Both are still charging albeit very slowly so intensive tasks will just end up draining your battery. I think the iPhone requires less power output from a PC compared to our Galaxy SIIs.

dont forget that iphone has 3.5 display SGS2 has 4,3
and than there is the hungry dual cpu clocked at 1.2 GHz, not to forget there is also the produced heat that caused the drain too
my battery on my iphone always stays at 100% when playing heavy 3d games and the GS2 it doesnt seem to matter which charger i use it still drains.

I assume your iPhone is the iP4.
It will be a different story on the dual-core iP4S
nope even my mates 4S stays at 100%

Yea, that's the iPhone and this is the SGS2. Not iPhone. It is because the SGS2 has multiple times stronger hardware than the iPhone and it uses more power than what is loaded in it while under heavy load. Your phone won't turn off though if you do this at 1%, it'll just stay at 0% and when you stop using it it will nicely charge up. And you can't 'fix' it. You can mod some files (maybe in kernel, I'm not sure) that affect charging speeds, but you risk blowing your battery/phone, so don't do it.
If you think this is a huge, usability breaking issue then I think you won't have much trouble selling your phone for an almighty iPhone 4. You can do it on these very forums too, did you know? Also you'll be able to play multiplayer games against yourself with 2 iPhones. And they won't discharge while doing so...hmm, tempting isn't it?

Your iphone4 gets charged with 1 full amp, the sgs2 only gets 450mA from a usb cable and 650mA from the dc charger. Install the siyah kernel and change the charging current if you want, im upto 800mA and haven't noticed any side effects.
is ios5 bug....hehe

It's really easy too explain.
If you drain more than 450/650 mah via pc/wall plug you will loose power. You can't change this. It's a Fact!
All you can change is the power you need via Brightness/underclocking/undervolting/etc... And you're able to increase the input via some kernels eg. Siyah's. Both methods combined should always gain you faster charging times and provide that its really charging and not just slower discharging
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
There are kernels modified(like Siyah) to let the phone charge with higher than 450mah. Up to 1000mah if you have a charger that supports it. I bought a 1Ah charger and used a mod kernel and now I don't have that issue anymore.
You need the charge current script for that kernel it's in the info post.
So can anyone share the name of a good OC app? I am looking for something that has triggers (for ex. set to 1.2ghz when X game is running, and when exit game set 800mhz...).
Also can you post some stabile UV voltages for S2? I am interested in 800mhz, 1000mhz and 1200mhz stabile UV.
Also any way to disable 1 core when not needed?
Btw my charger says 700mA, yet when I charge my phone it takes 3hours to charge from 10 to 100%. Going to buy a 1A charger from a HTC. Do I need to change anything in the phone for that to work?
It bugs me that i need to charge 3-3:30 hours to get 3h of 3D gameplay...
It happens with me only when playing really cpu intensive games, even when charging with my standard Samsung charger...
Guess I'll try using Siyah kernel and a different charger...
is the siyah kernel the only one that enables the change of charging current?
You cant change the numbers of charging. Max is 650mah even when you change the value in stweaks to 800 you phone will be charging only with 650mah samsung is using a chip with max 650 mah charging. There is no way to charge our phone faster. You can only change the value in usb from 450 tl 650 i have 550 on usb and its charging faster from pc for example.

So there is no way to prevent the phone from discharging while playing? Even connecting it to a 1A charger and changing charging current?
Hi guys.I have a problem for a long time. When I plug the charger to phone charging very slowly.I tried many roms it not changed anything.I flashed boafella kernel and looked charge status. It showing charging with 100mA.I tried changing my charger first it worked but now slow again. My sister bought an S6 and S6 charger worse than normal charger. When Im using the boefella kernel (Im changing the charge rate to 1600ma and forcing it) I can charge in 3-4 hours. When Im not using its chargin in 22+ hours. What can I do?
Guess its time to get yourself a new battery.
New battery is not going to solve this issue as I too have the same problem & have an original new battery replacement.
I changed the charging port.I hope the problem will fix now.

See if it resolves, else other could be an issue with charging ic.
Ok Its still same. Its charging on 1100ma when the plugin charger but after 10 min its dropping to 100ma and not charging anymore.Am I need new battery or what?
I have the same problem.. Charging is so ****ed up with my Galaxy S3 . I use Boeffla Kernel and crank the Input Volt to 1400 Mah. I think our Beloved phone is getting Old.

Yeah :/.I will wait until 4.5G comes to Turkey. But why its not charging Im really wondering.
If your charging current drops & don't want any hardware fix then you can use Boeffla Kernel & switch on the Ignore Unstable Power & Ignore Safety Margin, and keep AC Charging Current at 1000mah or above.

download amps app and check current rating feed to your phone, fast charge > 2500 mA, if lower, try change your charger.

After the update mine also shows 3hr's to charge and slowly charging. I brought the phone 10 days back and updated to this 9.6.25 a week and facing this problem.
Have no problem at all with Poco f1 Miui 9.6.25. Charging time is around 1hr 45 to 2 hrs if not mistaken.

Try to charge below 50% from current battery level.my stock charger rating 5V 2.5A..can get around 2.2A reading from app.
Its starts slower then it gets faster , from 10% to 100 % in under 2h , so its working properly.

Don't worry its just a software issue I just flashed the miui 10 beta Rom and now everything is fine it shows the QC logo also
Me too facing the issue. In the screenshot, charging at 18% and showing 920 mAh
Me too facing the same issue and i am on Miui 9.6.25 as well.
I just had a chance to check it, as I recently upgraded to 9.6.25. Well, no changes for me - there is QC icon next to the battery and Ampere shows current reaching 2900 mA.

You guys don't use the search function on the thread and just keep on making new threads about the same issue.
It has been well documented now that the charging slows due to thermal throttling. The hotter the phone the slower the charging. If anyone wants to test this, charge your phone for 5 mins before an air conditioner and measure the charging speed using the app called 'Amps'.
You should see the charging speed at around 2700-2800mah provided your phone temperature is quite low.
Otherwise, take a chilled watter bottle from your fridge and pour it generously on a towel. Now place your phone on that towel and charge you phone. As soon as the temperature starts falling to around 32-34 degree celsius, the charging speed will increase.
This is built in safety feature. The charging slows when the battery temperature is around 36-37 degree celsius as per my observations.
Cool you battery to around 30 degrees using any method you can and then check the charging speed.
Not your charger, not your cable...its mostly the charging algorithm with built in thermal thresholds which is at play here.
DO TELL ME YOUR TEST RESULTS.
I just found this thread - I have similar problem but it's rather not connected with temperature.
After one of software updates I discovered that quick charge is not working. Maybe it wasn't connected with update but this is how I see this.
I was waiting for software updates and hoping that they will fix my problem but nothing was changing.
Recently I decided that maybe factory reset will help, but unfortunately no.
After this reset I was checking many chargers and it appeared that with laptop charger (with USB C output) quick charge works! I was checking parameters in application 'ampere' and there is information that this charger is AC, and rest is USB. So it looks like QC works but....
Please help, how can I make quick charge works again via standard quick charge charger.

Iam in 11.0.5.0 global rom can any body confirm if its a rom issue or my specific issue
I want to clarify that my Poco on fully stock 11.05 charges as fast as any previous version of MIUI.
I take care of my battery. Charge till 80 and never let or go below 20.
If you can maintain the variables, and it still charges slow then you have issues with battery IC or the battery itself.
The highest I got without ceiling fan and without ac is 1590 mA. Maybe I got higher other times but I installed the app just for this post.
Don't rely on software reporting.
Do you have a multimeter?
Ambient temperature plays a HUGE role when it comes to battery, even if it's 1 degree more or less.

Please install "hw info" all from play store and check the bettery temperature when plugging the charger. If your bettery temp is 40+ then it will not execute rapid charge for the safety of your battery. The temp heats up pretty often on PE if the ambient temp is too high
1. Do not use phone while charging.
2. Make sure phone temperature is low as charging is slowed / stopped when it is heating up.
3. Check your cable / charging brick.
4. Check power outlet.
