Battery drain while in deep sleep - Greenify

Hello,
Greenify is putting my device into deep sleep for more than 90% of the time usually. However, I seem to be suffering from battery drainage while screen is off, around 2-3% per hour while the device is supposed to be sleeping.
Any ideas how to monitor the cause for that?
I'm using a non rooted S7.
Thanks!

Install BetterBatteryStats (BBS) app and you can monitor the drain. For further details, visit the BBS thread in XDA.

BBS most definitely does not require root. Depending on ROM you may have to grant permissions to access battery stats via ADB. If that's not viable try GSAM which is also available in the Play Store (and well regarded).

Just reinstall. It happens to me sometimes, so I just reinstall and put all of my settings again, I think aggressive doze sometimes fail, and hey I only have 1% drain for like almost 20 hours of idling with amplify

Thanks for the recommendation.
GSam reported "combined App CPU" as responsible for the drain.
I will follow the instructions on "enabling battery stats" using DAB etc. and will update if I find the cause.

1% per 20 hrs is a dream, I leave it overnight and waking up with 15% less!
I will follow your advice and update.
Thank you!

Yeah, I hope you achieve it too. Just with greenify and amplify, you can achieve it.

Hi,
I left the device overnight with Greenify + Aggressive doze enabled, and monitored performance with GSam battery monitor.
The device is was deep sleep for 98% of the time.
HOWEVER, it lost 9% overnight. (1.5%/h) I don't understand how is it possible.
According to GSam, the drainage is mostly related to the "Android System" and "Kernel (Android OS)" processes.
Any idea why these apps are so active while in deep sleep?
Thanks,

Both are core Android processes; some activity is expected when the device is idle (your heart still beats while sleeping). The accelerated loss is likely due to a failing battery, poor radio reception or rogue radio/sensor that fails to go into a low power mode. Repeat the test in airplane mode to rule out signal strength issues.

Thanks for your input, Davey126.
I switched to airplane mode (wifi off) with device almost untouched. Drain dropped from 1.6%/hour to 0.8%/hour. It is a lot, but still draining to much, even in airplane mode.
I would appreciate an advice on how to monitor the cause.

you should ask in your forums, this is not the place for specific device battery issues.
Xperia Z5 line devices drained 1%/h on airplane during night (deep sleep), but it was just Sony lollipop issue solved by marshmallow firmwares. If it's a stock kernel issue then there's nothing you can do, usually. But you should ask other users with the same device to see if you share the same situation.

Got it, thanks.

Putting aside device specific questions:
How do you monitor the amount of power different sensors use overnight, and whether they enter low power mode or not?
Thanks.

BBS (Better Battery Stats) is probably the best choice for capabilities and community support. They said, it will not provide the granularity you seek (sensor power consumption) but can offer clues to misbehaving sensors.

Battery drop, 91%-17%

Hie guys, I just woke today to see my phone was off and when I switched it on the battery was @17%, from the battery stats in settings it shows my phone switched off after 2hours of me sleeping. So what can really make a phone lose 74% battery whilst it's OFF??!!
Help me or you can paste me a link to where similar problems have been discussed.
Thanx.

Download a battery calibration tool off the market and use it, I have had this happen to me before where i would lose over 50% of battery life just by restarting my phone, and it would gradually go back up.
Also check if their are any updates for your rom and os you are running

Probably a pointless exercise since it's been proven you can't "calibrate" the battery in an S2.
I've had something similar happen, I was raping my battery with a torch app then restarted. Before the restart I had about 90%, after it was around 30%.
Could it be a sign of the battery failing? I've not had any real problems otherwise..
Perhaps you have wake locks? Purchase better battery stats or download it using the search button.
A high battery drain is often a limiting factor for a great user experience.
With BetterBatteryStats you can analyse the behavior of your phone, find applications causing the phone to drain battery while it is supposed to be asleep and measure the effect of corrective actions:
- Spot drainers based on detailed information about the root cause
- Use the online Knowledge-Base to find how to reduce or remove the wakelocks
- measure the effect of actions to reduce drain
- detect changes in the awake/sleep profile and quickly find the causes (rogue apps)

Phone not Sleeping

I'm having this issue of my phone not sleeping when the phone is off. I checked kernel wakelocks and the number 1 culprit is Power Manager Service. Anybody have any idea what this is. A distant second is wlan_rx_wake but I'm not too worried about this.
The devs are working on it. If you aren't on the latest CM9 build then you should update.

I'm actually not on AOSP stuff. I'm on one of Neo's roms.
Edit: I just ran a test and for 34 minutes the phone slept for 33 of them. Even though the phone lost 4 percent of battery in that time. I see people saying they have crazy good battery drain rates (like .25%/hr). I thought i would get better life but I guess thats just the way it is.

that rate is based on usage. keeping apps from starting. keeping apps running in foreground all the time. lots of frozen unnecessary apps. screen brightness between 10-20%. betterbatterystats monitors wakelocks

When saying .25% per hour I was talking about during sleep but I get 3-4% during sleep. I am going to try and wipe everything and start from scratch. But if my phone is sleeping >90% of the time when the screen is off, there's not much I can do to improve battery drain during sleep no(app wise), and screen brightness won't help at this level cause it's when the screen is off?
have to watch for partial wakelocks or any wakelocks. apps automatically starting when not needed or still running will reduce your amount of deep sleep. use betterbatterystats to monitor usage while it's off

[Q] Help - ANDROID SYSTEM, GOOGLE SERVICES AND BATTERY DRAIN RELATIONSHIP

Anyone with some knowledge about the system and their workings (and what caused the battery drain), PLEASE HELP!
Attachment file is screenshots from GSAM, and the help I need is to understand what is causing it, or what would be just as nice is to learn how to stop it.
Basic info
Still .475 firmware
rooted with Vroot
Stamina off, but happens to an extent with but not as severly with Stamina on
I have Greenify installed, but doubt that this is the cause, since it happened before installation too
Only the chinese SU and Google+ disabled by going into system/apps
Here is the flow of what happened.
I Fully charged to 100%, disconnected and went to bed listening to podcasts (Beyond Pod)
I wake up 5 and 1/2 hrs later to find battery down to 15%
I open GSAM, take screenshots of what looks suspicious
I note that App usage is whopping 92%, where the screen is only accounting for 1.1% usage of screen.
Of the 90%+ of power used by apps, close look tells me is 44.7% is Android System, and 41% is Google services
Looking further into these 2 culprits, is where I get lost.
Is it something about wake lock? CPU usage (background)? WifiStateMachine is high up in the list of both Sysytem and Google services?
%numbers tells me that they are something to do with it, but I have no further understanding, thus powerless to prevent or cure.
As the first screenshot will tell u, when things were smooth, I get 15-16 hrs of Batt life
Any suggestions/actions???
If this is any hint, I have no idea, but once I remember seeing in notification bar a notice saying that some app was preventing Stamina mode from going into sleep mode...
It seems I faied to attach screenshots. Here are the missing ones in attachment
Interesting. I also use vroot and 475 kernel workaround to root my 510. Your phone clearly didn't enter deep sleep all that time.. Held awake for 5+ hours, and WiFi is on for almost 5 hours initiated by google service (strange, in my phone google service doesn't initiate WiFi on) but your first screenshot suggests that WiFi is active for only 33 minutes.. Looks like conflicting information.
My ZU also sucks a lot of power when held awake (not as fast as yours though - almost 100% in 5 hour is full screen-on for me; logging gps track with screen off is around 50% down in 4 hours) and the major power drain is the kernel, android service, and google service. Looks like a lot of background processing, but I can't figure out what's the specific cause(s) is..
For those with more proficiency in these things, is there any recommended place in the internet to start deciphering the power usage logs?

Yes, please, anyone?
Just to give update on what has happened since....
Still on .475 HK Firmware.
I have traced back what apps I have installed (in order, un-installed them one by one)
I dont know if the conclusion I reach is correct or not, but results seem to have solved it.
The 2 apps I have rid since are GREENIFY and TITANIUM BACKUP.
My guess is that Greenify was maybe the culprit?
It worked well on my previous device. But Not Z Ultra. Is it because it is SD 800 and it takes different kind of working/updating to fully compliment this SoC, Z ultra being the first out with SD800?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Yes, the hibernated apps are not giving notification anymore and gsam battery didn't report any wakelocks in sleep from them. But I can't really say about battery life, though, since in my case, sony's stamina mode is the main factor for battery saving. I treat greenify as a tool to minimizing data footprint.

Enormous battery drain on Miui8 (xiaomi.eu)

Ok, so get straight to the point. Im having huge issues with 2 proccesses Android System/Androis OS. Starting with Miui8 they are killing my battery. They dont allow phone to go into Deep Sleep Mode. When i check after 8h idle during night, in the morning, with kernel adiutor CPU frequency table i have over 40% @ lowest 400mhz and the rest is deep sleep. This is of course wrong. It should be 95% of deep sleep at least.
21% battery loss over night. Seriously ?
Anyways this is how it is (*screenshot*)
This is happening so far on all weekly updates from xioaomi.eu
Factory reset didnt help.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the LG G6's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I have been on and off mine all day without heavy use due to being at work, and by the time night came without me charging I was around 79%. This is from 5AM to 11PM. But I must admit... I went into the sttings and set EVERYTHING as inactive that I was able to do so and recommend everyone do it. The apps will never turn on or activate unless you manually open one in which case it will then stay active. It's great for apps that do crap in the background which you never use anyway. Oh, and I use Greenify as well, and always keep my tasks clear. So yeah... I'm used to saving battery by habit so my experience is different from most.
My standby time has been brutal... Would not be using my phone for around 1 hr and then id see my battery drop from a 36 to 30.... I closed all apps and even used the smart cleaner to get rid of some.. I dont know whats the problem to be honest. If they can fix the standby drain i could honestly reach for 5 to even 6 hours of screen on time
My standby has been really good, I can leave it off charge overnight and can only go down 2% or so, but once I start using it the % drops heavily after 5 minutes or so. I've got to go through the settings to turn off notifications because I've noticed apps like candy crush giving me notifications

Did you hook your phone up to a computer and use the ADB commands to enable Greenify's aggressive doze? That really helped me, Nougat's built-in doze is still crap compared to Greenify. Also, setting WiFi to inactive while display is off, as well as enabling data saver in data management to restrict mobile background data for all apps helps greatly with wakelocks. Also everyone should consider disabling certain notifications from apps like Maps and Assistant which can create a lot of wakelocks.
I wrote a few tips to help with battery life on Nougat in the G5 section, but it should apply here as well:

Standby time wears on you depending on what apps you got running
?????
I found the culprit. Apparently one of my skin apps was causing wakelocks keeping the phone awake the whole time. Deleted it and installed greenify, will see how things goes
