Verizon G2 on st att network problems - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I know this is an old phone but I just got an old Verizon g2 off eBay to play with because it is easy to run the apps that I'm wanting to run with it. The only problem is that my service sucks now. I got an AT&T straight talk card and am using it but with it I will have 4glte one second and then it'll have no service whatsoever the next. Also when I loose service my phone number and everything disappears from about phone tab. I've tried as many different apns as I could find. What would be the best was of fixing this problem. I monitored my signal to see what happened when I lost it and it said possibly an escfb issue. The phone is a Verizon vs980, running 5.0.2, rooted and busybox. The only other things that I have done to the system besides install some root apps (mostly protesting) is change the system file on hotspot provisions so I can use the hotspot without Verizon. Thanks for the help guys

[Q] I need some help with my Rooted G2X

So after having this g2x for 2 years now I decided to Root it, all was well, it could access wifi and basically run like a phone without being connected to a plan (I recently upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3). Well after rooting it and whatnot my girlfriend broke her ipod touch so I offered to give it to her and to put it on Net10 because my job now sells it. But when I put the SIM card in that's when things kind of went down hill, the phone, whenever I would place a call would start clicking and when I answered it with my phone the clicking continued on my end as well. I called Net10 Customer service and they didn't really help, so I put it back to stock everything except for the recovery menu. Still it doesn't work, the dude said that the t-mobile towers were having problems and that, that was the problem. I don't know if I trust that because my phone plan is with T-Mobile and I was talking with him just fine. So enough about my issues and on to the questions. Are there any Net10 friendly ROMs available and if so what are they? Is it the g2x that's being stupid or is it the network? Also my data stops working after I put in the Net10 APN. Any help would be greatly appreciated. To answer a question that I know some of you might have, yes I'm a rooting/ROM noob but I did it on my Galaxy S3 and it works like a charm. Thank you for your time.
gingerbread will be better

[Q] use of a foreign sim

Ok so I (foolishly) bought a galaxy s4 with verizon even though I was moving overseas to Israel in two months. I made sure that the phone was world capable (like it can do cdma and gsm) and the guy at the store said it would handle foreign sims no problem. Once I arrived here I got a new sim. I figured out that it needed to be in gsm. From then on it had the service bar and confirmed it was connected to Orange. Since then I have been able to receive calls and texts, but not make them, every time I try to make a call before one ring I get a prerecorded message saying that my number cant be completed as dialed. I have tried several things already to fix this: to a cell phone repair person, to the local sim carrier where a lady tried using the sim of her own phone, customer service at verizon and samsung (who both told me to go see the other). I also did a factory reset which didnt do anything.
my phone is not rooted and is schi545 ME7. I will root if I have to, but if I dont I would prefer not to for the time being
Anyway I suspect the problem has something to do with the fact that I got the phone from verizon. Every time I start the phone I get the Verizon logo and after a minute I get a notification from the verizon set up wizard saying that I have a non verizon sim and that the sims source is unknown. I also tried disabling the verizon security and was able to make the notification go away but the problem persists.
Can someone with experience with this kind of stuff help me please? Thank you so very much:good:
Are you sim unlocked? I don't think the phone is unlocked. Talk to verizon to see if they'll unlock it.
According to verizon I am. I spoke with multiple representives from verizon and they said the phone was unlocked

Has any one told you if you have to change any apn, access point name? That may be the problem too. They can be specific to the carrier.
No, how do you configure that

In system settings, network & wireless, more, mobile networks, access point name. It'll be specific to the carrier so i can't help you there.
all LTE Verizon phones after Galaxy Note 2 are factory unlocked it must be a APN issue. Try maybe to do a factory reset and as previous poster suggested do the steps he told you to change the APN or look into I think it's called HiApn in Play Store.
Also try to put it in global mode or GSM? play with the settings.
still having problems
Thanks for all the input everyone but my problem still persists
I downloaded HiApn and followed its instructions to which told me to set up 3 Apns. I noticed that only one of them can be active at the time. I tried with each one active and I still can not make phone calls. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Go to Setting, call setting, disable the prefix international. I have done the same for using Verizon S4 in Indonesia.
Mine was not unlocked either, although I knew this before buying. This is a guide I tried (without success) to unlock it on my own.
Like the last poster, I reside in Indonesia, but I was never with Verizon. I rooted mine and have had no problems since.
Ok so I went to call settings and the closest I found was assisted dialing for international calls and the option to turn it on or off. I played with that for a bit and it didnt work.
I also tried the code and it said connection problem or invalid code
during my fiddling I came upon an app that showed promise of fixing my problem if I had adb shell. Does anyone have a good place to get that? I tried a few that didnt work out for me. There was another that showed promise but it wouldnt send a package no matter what I try
Thanks
If you want ADB, you need to download Android SDK and have Java Runtime Environment also installed. Then, it is just a matter of typing in "adb" into the command prompt of Windows.
Is there a serious conflict for you not rooting the device? The true benefit of doing this is to get SIM cards from anywhere to work, and to allow certain apps to work. Rooting is simply a matter of bypassing security parameters. As long as you follow instructions strictly, you won't have an issue using the phone as it should be used.
yea I suppose I could try to root it. Im just not great at that stuff and am worried about messing up my phone permanately

You don't need to root. You need to sim unlock. Get a hold of att international chat and adj them for an unlock code.
Hey guys thanks for all the help but I figured out that it was just a bad sim all along and that the first school screwed me over
But everything works now

[Q] AT&T One X + Tethering with International SIM

Hey guys,
So I have a bit of a tricky question that I can't seem to find an answer for. My wife and I just move to Europe for work for 2 years. We had AT&T in the states, so my wife has an AT&T HTC One X+. We got our phones SIM unlocked before we left, and purchased French SIM cards that run on the Bouygues Telecom network. My phone (Lumia 925) can do wifi tethering no problem... My wife's on the other hand has issues. I keep getting the following error:
" There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of the Mobile Hotspot function. Please retry later."
I have tried the following steps:
1. Rooting the phone.
2. Installing other hotspot apps (Both root and non-root)
3. Installed custom ROMs with hotfixes to remove AT&T data requirements.
I don't know if it's relevant, but when I do a reset on the phone, it doesn't automatically connect to Bouygues network for data. I have to manually add the APN every time. Once I do that, her mobile data works just fine, so I don't THINK that the APN is causing the problem...
Anyways, if anyone has an suggestions on how to fix this issue, I would be indebted to you... I've just never encountered this problem on any of my other Android devices and I have to believe that there is a simple solution to fix the problem that I've just not encountered. Thanks!!
I loved my international HOX, so when got dropped in water i said lets go for the ATT HOX+ that has LTE.
Big mistake! I have OP's same issue, im in spain and my provider is Movistar.
I bought it on e-Bay, configured all the APNs, I used settings from their webpage and also tried telephony.db values from an international rom, stock rom didn't tether.
Rooted stock (4.1.2 i think it was) still nothing.
Elegancia (4.2.2) ROM, still nothing.
Changed some stuff on the telephony.db, still nothing
Swapped the wifirouter.apk with the international wifirouter.apk, still nothing.
Nuked TetherGuard.apk, still nothing.
Installed Moto-X tether Xposed module, still nothing (probably cause it's for android 4.4).
I read that AOSP or Cyanogen ROMs don’t have this issue.
I also read that if you swap telephone.db from international version to USA version the phone goes into a reboot loop, [More Info].
I guess the solution lays in something similar to the Moto-X tether patch, but i don't really have the time to fork the project, and try to get my tethering working.
Hope someone can give us a hand, im sure there are at least 5 more people in this same situation.

[Q] Best way to Use LG G3 Without Service

I think this is the first time I have posted, even though I have been using xda for years. Anyway I bought this LG G3 from Swappa and low and behold it has an unpaid bill tied to it and cannot be activated with Ting and I don't have a Sprint account. I have no need to activate it since I use WiFi for everything. So I decided to keep it since I got a good deal and didn't want to wait to return and buy another for $50 more. Right now I am stock and have not attempted to root the device. I have rooted every other phone I have had, due to the software being really bad or outdated. This is the first phone I have had every had where I actually like the stock ROM that came with it(probably because of Lolipop and LG really taking Googles design sense.
My problem is that even though I keep the device in Airplane mode with WiFi on, the device of course attempts to connect to a network every time I power on.(I have to click emergency call and then home) Also the Sprint Data optimizer is using about 20% of my battery, probably searching for service it will never find.
So my question is, If I do decide to root the device. What would be the best ROM to use for my situation of no service? I prefer Stock Roms unless AOSP has a remote control, which I don't believe it does. Also do I really need to care whether I am on zv8 or zv4 since I do not have a connection to a network?
Also. Is there anyway to possibly get T-Mobile service on the LG G3 Sprint Variant? Even if it is a slow data connection.
Thank you if anyone has any answers to any of my questions.
(Check other post)
You can flash this ROM for GSM and check HERE for the remote stuff and other mods and tweaks.
@Ry42025

No 4g lte after switching from postpaid to prepaid. Help plz!

allow me to explain my situation. when i first got this phone, i had LTE throughout my area. i installed a rom of stang5litre edition which ended up frying my motherboard but i believe it was from flashing it incorrectly and trying to flash the OC1 kernel when i was running OH7 which is OF1 on postpaid. so instead of replacing the fried emmc chip and getting the equipment to do it all, i bought a clean esn motherboard that was taken out of a regular i545 an not a i545pp. it works perfectly with calls, texts and 3G but not LTE. i called customer service many times, tried factory reset, bought a new sim card cause they thought it was bad (which i put in my friends s4 and had LTE instantly so i know the new sim card isnt the issue) it is set on global in settings and running OH7 stock 5.0.1 latest. i cant figure out why everything else works but no LTE. by the sounds of things, im not gonna be able to get a replacement cause verizon says its samsung that does the warranty replacement then samsung turns and says its verizon's fault with the signal and that they replace it. so this is left in my own hands it seems. can anyone help me out? maybe wrong prl or something? any help is very much appreciated....
Anyone with input or suggestions please? ??
