Error Popup - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Can someone tell me how to stop this annoying error popup message?

It should be under Settings/Smart Assistance/Voice Control
Whenever I go there it asks me for Permissions for HiVoice. But I always deny and leave everything there switched off.
Google Assistant is enough already. Don't need another listening app.

yes, maybe some kind of code you can send to your operator/advertisement-sender which can stop the automatic messages, i know that kind of msgs sucks just find a way in google, i know different users experience that alot
You can download "SMS Popup" from the market. However you will need to manually configure it into "Privacy Mode" (or something similar). Once done, you will get a popup everytime you get a message, along with 3 options to "Open Message", "Delete" (without opening) or "Go to inbox".
I had the SMS POpup on my stock ROM but don't need it now on MIUI...
Thanks.
Are you sure it doesn't open the sms?
The android market page for this app reads:
NOTE: SMS Popup does mark message as "read"
so as far as the mobile carrier is concerned, the sms has been received & read, so it will still charge for those spam sms.
@mike,
pls refer to my previous post - the app opens the SMS by default - but once you go to settings and enable privacy mode, it won't read the msg. A message is not marked as 'Read' as long as it's in privacy mode and you don't specifically open it. (Even the LEDs will continue blinking till u don't open the message)
It's a free app, so u can download and check that out.
Thanks for the info
If your with vodafone phone the operator and they will ban the number from your sim

SMS popup is nice, but does it show a history of all the sms, like the stock sms app on A2.1 does?
Also, to avoid duplicate notifications I've unchecked the "notifications" in the stock sms app, but it no longer shows incoming messages in the messages log. is this a bug, or is this related to sms popup "hijacking" the sms?
TIA

Screen on when receiving a text? Anyway to disable?

Kinda annoying feature. Anyone know how to disable the screen turning on when getting a text?

Mine doesn't do that are you running a stock rom, and what carrier?
Mine doesn't do that either on Sprint.
Yea mine doesn't do that although I wish it did like my og EVO did

I'm on stock Rom. But every ttime I get a text, my screen lights up for about 3 seconds

Since you didn't answer the question of which carrier, I am going with that its Sprint from the model number in your signature.
My girlfriend's S3 is also doing this on her AT&T variant. I haven't been able to find an answer.
I have an AT&T one and it won't do it for email or text and I really would like it to. Must be a setting. Someone has to know.
You have to change the stock app. Stock messaging app is bad anyways. Look into GO SMS Pro or another app of your choice. The app has what your looking for then disable your stock messaging app.
For email just use the Gmail client. This also has the option for it.
Its all about the apps folks. I don't think the stock app has a way to have the screen to just remain off.
I think he is using blazer Rom from phantomhacker cause I also notice it. Sprint version btw.

Workaround
Found a quick fix to this that is way better than defaulting to another SMS app. Simply download "SMS pop up" from the play store, make sure its enabled, and under additional preferences untick "screen on pop up" and then under notification settings untick "enable pop up" (unless you want the pop up of course). You will have to untick the regular SMS app notifications under settings but its a fix that's working for me that still keeps the stock messaging app intact.

That will stop the screen from waking every time but won't turning notifications off in sms settings also prevent the phone the phone from letting you know at all that you have a message?
that is a nice woorkaround but too bad we have to use double the battery and 2 apps running at once to stop it. There has go to be a solution !
I made a thread about this yesterday. It happens to me everytime. On vzw
I'm running ATT variant and my screen wakes up when I get a text. Im currently rooted and looking through the messaging defaults with root explorer. Im sure theres a setting in there that is set to 1 or true that is doing this or vice versa for everyone else. I havent had an android device for quite some time so it might take me a bit to find it. If someone is a bit more experienced than me they'll probably find it faster.

Following what I wrote: If you disable the stock sms notifications under messaging>setting then the phone will not recieve any notifications regarding new messages. This is why SMS Popup is used instead. It uses a notifications service in conjunction with an optional popup to notify you when a new message arrives. If you enable notifications in SMS Popup, you will still receive notifications when new messages arive. SMS Popup is the service that will receive and notify you of the message, not the stock messaging app. It also has some other features including color customization of the LED light and selecting a specific SMS vibrate pattern. Like I said if you disable the "Enable popup" setting under the "notification" menu in SMS Popup it can serve as a intermittent workaround. As for the need to install it to accomplish this simple setting, it has a low battery and memory footprint as it is mostly a simple service and not a fully effective SMS replacement application. I have spent countless hours trying different solutions to this issue and this seems to be the best most effective workaround I could find whilst dodging SMS replacement apps like handscent and chomp. It was imperative for me to not have my screen light up in my pocket as I choose to go without a lock screen. Hope this helps and is a worthy solution until some development ushers in a new more efficient solution. Cheers!
There's got to be a way using root privileges to stop this. Heck we can stop the annoying wifi pop ups.
Thanks srath16 for finding a hackish way around.

I completely understand now. That's. Cool. There got to be a more in house way of doing this, but that would work in the meantime. Thanks for sharing.
This happens to me also and im running on Verizon at the moment would love if someone could find a way to fix this.

+1. But maybe we are in the minority and others actually like this feature?

Right. This isn't an "issue", it's just a feature that Samsung has deployed that some like and some don't. Being able to turn it on and off though would be nice.

Google Voice for Voicemail

Anybody able to set up Google Voice for voice messaging? Keep getting error messages "failed to retrieve and save current forwarding number settings"

I got it to work by setting it up online at www.google.com/voice. Just go to settings and follow the link to Activate Voicemail. Then back on the device, check off Google Voice in the settings and quickly hit the home button. That should make it work.
This worked for me. To be clear, at the point of choosing voicemail service in call settings, choose Google voice, then hit the home key, NOT yes.

I tried this, but I can't make the notifications to work. Has anyone been able to do it?
I'm able to get callers to get to my Gvoicemail but I also get no notifications or integration into the android phone app...

Android SMS permission (WhatsApp)

I got a new phone (running Android 8.1, patch level November) and had to set up WhatsApp again on that phone. After downloading and launching the application, I was asked to enter my phone number so that a verification SMS could be sent. The strange thing is: As soon as I got this SMS, WhatsApp switched to the next step of the setup process without having me to enter the verification code I received.
But I never granted WhatsApp the permission the read my SMS, WhatsApp currently only has permission to access contacts and the file system.
I even uninstalled WhatsApp and tried to repeat the inital setup, it worked again: As soon as the SMS arrives, WhatsApp continues with the setup process.
Could anyone please explain to me how this works?

This is strange but Not to be worried about. You can check the permissions (and disable them) in app info.

Thanks for your reply. The problem is: The permission is not enabled in the app info. The app is only allowed to access contacts and storage.

Well google might've changes some APIs and merged the sms permission to somewhere more secure.Meaning application could access their desired criteria of sms containing specific phrases without accessing your whole sms without asking for permissions.

I'm baffled as to why people continue to use WhatsApp since FB took over.

This might be an explanation, but I don't see how such an API could be realized in a secure manner: If an app can specify arbitrary phrases it is interested in, it might be able to read all sorts of SMS, even those that are not meant for it.
I just checked the changelog and this was done by introducin a new API called createAppSpecificSmsToken() in smsmanager class. This was done becuase by one-time enabling sms permission we were giving away our sms for lifetime. So this generates a token a one time shot that is called by String createAppSpecificSmsToken (PendingIntent intent) to recieve the server and client backend without touching the sms storage so in theory they can't access your any sms but rather go straight to app intent.

Great, thanks a lot for looking this up and letting me know. Seems I was not creative enough in coming up with a solution that allows to implement this in a secure manner.

Well it had to be done.I mean if you once allow the app to read your messages than it can do whatever it wants without letting you know.Somewhere up the chain of Android Development took note of it and put an end to this.

notification problems?

im using the pixel experience rom. Using whatsapp as an example, i dont get notifications until i open whatsapp. is the phone "optimising" my apps. I have set a few apps to "non-optimised" and still doesnt work. Did a test and most of my messages sent to me were 1 tick and until i open the app then i will receive the message. I am using GBwhatsapp if this helps.
