Well, for being one of the first to roll out updates, LG is dropping the ball.
OnePlus and Nokia are rolling out updates.
Essential and Samsung has betas
And LG has said nothing. Continuing disappointment.

That's what I got from LG via email:
"Thank you for contacting LG Customer Service in regards to your LG G6 phone.*
I have taken a look into your query and as of yet, we currently do not have any time frames or exact dates for when Android 8.0 will be released. We are testing on older models to see if it is compatable. However we have no information to give at this current point in time.*
I know this probably was not the answer you were expecting but as soon as we have any details regarding this, we will be more than happy to inform you!*"

Seems like this is the generic answer they provide to anyone who asks about the Oreo update
Exactly the same answer was sent to another user (ant78) from the LG V30 forum. I wouldn't be relaying on Customer Service of any mobile manufacturer... Similar type of answers I was getting back in the days when I had Samsung Galaxy S2. Turned out that two days later I got an update, where Customer Service had no specified date for the update
btw. Korean LG V30 got the Oreo update today

Well, LG just released the Oreo beta for the V30 and V30+ in Korea, and has previously said the final version will come in December, so hopefully that's good news for the G6 getting the update in a timely manner

It depends on what the timely manner means
Some of the sources like Androidauthority mentioned about having Oreo on G6 around October/November. It's almost the end of November and I doubt we'll see the update anytime soon

If you're phone is carrier locked, there is no warranty you will receive Oreo. For example Videotron in Canada are used to block updates.

Seriously?!?
This kind of practice should be denied! I think it's already a big mess with all those carriers and manufacturers who can't keep up with updating phones to the latest versions of Android. And I'm not saying about every device, but even flagship phones... which is a joke.
Ok I understand that it requires a lot of work (sometimes) to port, test and test new Android version, but I can't understand how come some of the phones are not getting security patches. LG seems to be a good example of this mess... H870 is stuck on July security update and we are almost at the end of the year
I wish all the phones were getting as quickly as Nexus/Pixels are getting... I wish I wish I wish...

The 'porting and testing' of a new android version by a carrier is, more often than not, just a case of adding some unwanted apps to the system.
The excuse of thorough testing is just an excuse for 'can't be bothered' just yet.

I totally agree with you. Updating software on already sold phones will not bring carriers new money, so not point in investing time and money into that. It's better to come up with new commercials, so people will buy more units.
In my opinion same story holds for the manufacturers who need to/want to grab as many users as they can, hence they put most of the effort into developing new models.

Was hoping to receive the update before Nov. ended but here we are. I at least hope something does come...
I'd be really freaking excited if the update drops this month.

Android Pay

Sorry if I breaking forum rules but I can't post on "Android Pay" thread. It says I haven't entered image verification????
Anyway....
Have Some BAD NEWS!!! on this subject guys.
Have been emailing customer services over the last few weeks, to try to resolve the problem that is Android Pay. Had an email back at the beginning of the month saying and I quote
"Hello friend,
We haven't got answers from our technician. They are still working on it.Pls wait for more days.
Best Regards,
Lynn
Team Elephone"
Been on Holiday and haven't had time to chase it up until lately. Not some days, but 3 weeks have passed and 2 software updates. I emailed customer services again for an update as I hadn't heard anything. Again got an email from Lynn and here is her email response
"Hello friend,
Sorry to tellyou that the problem can't be solved so far.
P9000 doesn't support Android Pay.
Best regards,
Lynn
Team Elephone"
No resolution, so its up to you guys now to continue to spread the word for Elephone's customers services and technical support as it's useless to me. I will sell it and get something else that works fully. I bought this device with good will. As it was one of the few devices with NFC around that price range. Stupidly I thought Android Pay would just work!!! Clearly not. Lesson learnt!!!
This is the same response I posted on the Elephone forum BTW
It's not up to Elephone to make it work, it's up to Google.
They need to have a signed, certified, and approved by banks OS to make it work.
So basically Android Pay will only work on Nexus, HTC, Samsung and LG phones. All major manufacturers. It doesn't even work on OnePlus phones, as it runs Cyanogenmod.
Also, your phone has to have a locked bootloader, stock recovery and has to be unrooted for AndroidPay to work.
It's a ridiculous requirement that makes 80% of Android phones not compatible. Read the comments on Google Play, you will see the disappointment.
Google says they will try to negotiate with the banks to require fewer security measurements, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Again. Not Elephone's fault. Not up to them.
Nonsense!!!!! OnePlus 3 comes with Android Pay pre-installed. So an uninformed thing to say. My handset has a locked bootloader, stock recovery and is unrooted. It also works with various banking apps So YES!!! it is down to Elephone to sort the certification out. This is the response I got from Google themselves:-
"Hi , Unfortunately, the Elephone P9000 is running test-keys that were not registered with Android's Compatibility Test Suite. Until the manufacturer resolves this, all users on Elephone P9000 devices will be unable to use Android Pay. Please feel free to contact the manufacturer to ask about their plans for enabling you to get setup.

OnePlus 3, maybe. Not the older ones though. I can literally post screenshots of users complaining.
The OnePlus 3 is running OxygenOS. The older ones Cyanogenmod, which, I do not think will be supported. Ever.
Sooo I'm not the one who is uninformed. (A billion exclamation marks)
Lastly, what's the point being on XDA-Developers if you have a locked bootloader?
Google Wallet used to be much more open, all you needed was a device with an NFC.
Now you need to adhere to some ridiculous security measurements...
Elephone is running a modified version of Android. I don't think they will ever get the "test-keys" registered.
You are both ridiculously misinformed on the matter.
Elephone needs to switch from signing their ROM with test-keys to signing it with release-keys. If you want to know the difference between the two then please search.

Therefore it is down to them. I wish I would have known this before I bought the damned thing. Other than that, not a bad handset for that cash.
I was merely quoting an email I got this morning from Elephone and an email I got from Google a few weeks ago. I was not being informed or misinformed, or trying to be clever or anything. Just letting everyone know what the outcome was. End of story. Thanks!
Wow people here are harsh and not a bit helpful so far!!!

Everyone's ridiculously misinformed! Misinformation all around. On the house.
Getting back on topic, are you saying that anyone who makes a ROM and signs it with release-keys instead of test-keys can make a Google-Pay-friendly ROM? That wouldn't make sense? I don't know. This info doesn't just lie around, so apologies if I sound daft.
Cheers
I'm going to jump on the "wish I had Android Pay" bandwagon.
I use contactless payment all the time and have backed the Pagare strap for my Pebble Time Steel watch but that has been delayed until next year, so in the interim it seems I can only use cards. Would like to be able to leave my wallet at home sometimes.
So is the only solution likely to be if Elephone themselves stop signing their roms with test keys, and use release keys instead, and users who are on custom roms go back to using the standard one?

From what I've seen, yes
Sent from my P9000 using Tapatalk
I asked Elephone on their FB page if they knew when Android Pay would be supported on P9000.
Reply:
"Not at this time, still in R&D, will update when we have solid news"
Disappointing
FWIW I have read that it's not possible to get Android Pay working on phones with unlocked bootloader, or Cyanogenmod. Also Chinese phones generally.
As such, not sure how I just managed to set it up on my wife's Oneplus One running CM13. Added card, verified, no error messages.
I thought the OPO had an unlocked bootloader from stock, and it's still running CM13 not Oxygen OS?
If so, why can't we get Android Pay on P9000 in the CM13 ROM that is being developed?
I think it was something to do with the rom signing keys, I wish they would sing the rom with release keys instead.

That's the first part of it, there are other parts if the CTS that need to pass as well but signing a ROM with test keys is a big deal breaker as it really isn't secure.

they should focus on doing that and and relicing the source for stuff so we can port over cyanogen and ubuntu touch.

I found a workaround that suits for me to pay with my p9000 in Germany.
Root and XPosed needed, so some MIGHT be out here. I'm using rootcloak and device Faker in combination with the App boon.

I've been using it since I got the phone and found out Android Pay doesn't work. The only time I had issues wss when I updated to the latest Elephone OTA update. It completely broke Barclaycard Pay and the only way I could get it working again was a full wipe of the device.

H870 - European Update

Update 19 December 2017:
I've just updated through LG Bridge. I have come to following conclusions:
- My data, media and apps still exist. Nothing deleted
- Bridge will download massive 3GB of firmware
- Bridge didn't like my wifi so I used my neighbor wifi that downloaded the firmware successfully. However I don't know why I got server error at my own wifi
- I can't see any changes. Just a november patch which is still better than July
So I got this response from LG:
This is a staff of LG Product Security Response Team(LG PSRT).
First of all, we apologize for late security patch.
As I know, the latest version (for European) is also July.
According to our dedicated team, there will be a security patch for your LG G6 H870 within the end of December.
Thanks for your patience.
Regards,
LG PSRT
What does that even mean? Which security patch will we receive? Any mention of Android 8?
Security patch: August

Yeah, the LG updates is kinda a joke. The hardware is good and all, but we're still running the same 7.0 that it was launched with some 9 months ago. I'm just waiting for stable LOS.
As I said, very nice! I'd actually been missing those icons.
Would you consider making a version with the Nexus grey background instead of all black as well? While keeping the icons and the accent color.
Oh, and if you do, I wouldn't mind seeing a slight background change for the separator row in the settings. Just like the default white theme handles it, but in a dark grey of course.

Nordic LG G6 updates
Well I just asked LG Finnish customer service why the security updates are still at july 1st on my LG G6 that I bought a week ago. My 2+ years old phone I switched from had newer security updates.
First response was basically "unfortunately we dont know this as Google is responsible for the updates... Please inquire Google about this."
When I complained about this and pointed them to LG's own website at (cannot post links yet)
https lgsecurity.lge.com/security_updates.html
I got a snarky reply saying that as I can probably read from the page the updates are irregular at some regions etc.
And that getting updates in Finland means all the Nordic countries and their operators have to test the update first before its released here.
They said an update is coming, but did not specify "which" update. Blah. Not very good customer service either.
Like Sony Phones I swear I will add LG to the not buy list in the future Permanently. I'm responsible for the Hardware buying here at our company and we have removed LG also for now. Next year we will be upgrading to Motorola as they seems to fulfill our budget and security updates

Bad choice they are just as bad if not worse than LG.

US comes to an agreement with ZTE, letting them back into the US with a penalty

https://techcrunch.com/2018/06/07/zte-fined-1-billion/amp/
tl;dr: 1 billion dollars from ZTE and they're able to trade with us again.
Slightly longer version:
1) ZTE told not to trade with Iran
2) ZTE caught trading with Iran. ZTE fined and told to punish certain board members
3) ZTE caught not punishing said members, the US stops trade with ZTE
4) ZTE and the US renegotiate and ZTE has to pay the US another billion.

My guess is that we don't get an Axon 9. They likely missed their window, have a lot of delays starting back up, and frankly even back in business are probably going to transition away from the US flagship market due to the relative lack of success of the A7.

AFAIK ZTE claimed that the Axon 7 was very successful. That's why they announced the Axon 9 to begin with.
im willing to bet that the axon 9 was already 80-90% done when the ban took place. the real question is how possible is it to ramp back up and make them presuming they did not lay off all of the staff necessary to complete it now that they can use the components required. who knows for sure when and/or if Axon 9 sees the light of day in the US market. i really really hope it does, but at this point, anything is possible.
Not So Fast...
There's a move in the Senate to block the proposed agreement to allow ZTE to purchase from US companies again.
Link
Interesting how a similar ArsTechnica article puts this exclusively on Republicans when Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) are also sponsors of the amendment along with Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Tom Cotton (R-AK).
In the comments, to the Ars article, the author responds to that criticism by saying they needed a short headline so they say Republican senators instead of bipartisan group of senators.
I guess it's better to have a short headline than an accurate one.
I was waiting for the real Oreo version, but it looks like the NFound or Lineage version is the way it will have to be.

They ARE beta, but does that make them "fake" Oreo updates? They are real, and they are really good.
The worst complaints I heard were bad battery (In my case that hasn't been apparent) and safetynet not passing, to which there's a fix. Besides that they are probably the best Oreo ROMs out there, with fully working HDR+ (which has been ported since, but still has artifacts on ROMs).
Installing any of those means modding the phone. Not a normal update. I'm still going to wait and see what happens.

on a sales/marketing standpoint they'd want to wait, improve and confirm they're still accepted and trusted by consumers before returning to the market with a pricier flagship product
Getting sick of the on off thing with this. Not looking like they will be back. Seems there's people in US politics hell bent on destroying ZTE.
There goes Oreo official, and the Axon 9.
This will push Chinese companies to go with Mediatek more now in the short term and I expect more Chinese SoC development even with companies not focusing on that yet. It will hurt Qualcomm long term IMO. Mediatek may reverse the decision to not do flagship SoCs with a bigger Chinese market that will result from this as they lose confidence in supply.
Expect Samsung to try to push their Exynos to other brands and I wonder if Huawei will sell to others?
The beta sources are a broken mess. The fact that the Devs have been able to do what they have with what they received is nothing short of a miracle.

Alternatives to Firmware Finder

Hello, since Firmware Finder cannot enforce updates anymore, is there any alternative that does not require root? Honor really sucks at delivering updates, in FF I can see version 8.1.0.143 while I'm still on 131, this was always a pain in the ass for Honor devices but previously I always thought "who cares, I can force it via FF", well now I do care and this will be my last Honor device if I can't get the updates to work.
Thanks for any advice.
I just hate people like you who keep trowing dirt at companies for this sh*t about updates.
143 was just released, not long ago, cant you have patience a bit?you have the previous version, so at what do they suck?you have june or july sec update i bet.

I'm sorry but if someone like Apple were to announce an iOS update for a specific day, you would expect it to be available on that day and it most likely would be. Honor told us that the update would be on August 3rd for the EU, yet here I am 3 days later in the UK unable to see 143/145. This would be relatively fine, if they hadn't made several posts on their Twitter accounts saying things like "update now!" and "have you updated yet?", and also made a competition on this very forum with a 10 day deadline, meaning if someone like me wanted to enter they would be 3 days behind anyone else already.

Well its not huawei the problem. They released the update but google has to certify it then it will be sent in batches.

Sorry what? "certified by Google"? If the update has already come out in other regions/countries then surely it's already good to go, and the blame rests on Huawei/Honor for not pushing it to all the relevant regions/devices (which I'm sure they're able to do without doing it in waves, otherwise they wouldn't be telling everyone it's available now...)

Certification goes by country my friend. Thats the main reason why it goes in waves. If you are so much in rush you can use no check recovery and then you will see its not certified by Google . So yes its Google to blame because huawei have the update ready.

I just hate people like you who keep trowing dirt at companies for this sh*t about updates.

You know, before I started using Firmware Finder on one of my previous phones, I was a year without an update. So that's what they suck at.

Really? It was my understanding that not being "certified by Google" was something that stopped your specific device from being updated, and that each manufacturer organised their own OTA updates (to me it doesn't make much sense for Google to be certifying Huawei, Samsung, etc. updates, as surely those companies have their own teams to test this stuff?).
Even so, I spoke with Honor customer service earlier today and all "Shane" could tell me was to "hold on". He even said he agreed that it's a bit silly for Honor to tell everyone it's available when really it isn't, but that there's nothing else they can do

Its not about huawei. Its about google security. Having or not their own team to test things doesnt mean they have access to google suite. Certification grants you access to google play, google pay and certain banking apps. If google did not check the updates for certain bugs, hacks etc then the update will stay on hold and as i said from country to country banking systems, telecommunication security systems are different.
Little miss leading social media , yes gpu boost is rolling out in certain regions this is normal practice for honor again it's region based batches at a time , the UK is always the last to get it , honor phones are not like say a OnePlus global device were as soon as a update rolls say in Canada first, you can set a VPN to Canada and download it even though your region hasn't got update yet , that would be nice but honor phones have tons of different region build numbers so unfortunately it's a waiting game for us in UK , I applied for the gpu boost beta and that wasn't being announced till 13th and haven't heard a thing since [emoji848]

Is there actually an alternative to FF? I just want to download the .zip and cannot update it via the phone.
FF doesnt have the current Firmware "C432E2R1P5" für my Honor 9
€: Nvm. I found it, its the B162. But anyway are there other website who gather Honor/Huawei Firmwares?

Reading the latest news, I can't decide whether laughing or crying....
It's concerning for us who just upgraded to the P30 Pro. I'm wondering if it's a bill pay upgrade would I be able to change my mind and go to the S10 plus now.

The world isn't work like this. Nobody enforced you to buy any Huawei devices.
If you want to make a complaint, then write to Google or to Donald Trump.
Have we sell the p30 pro?

The world does work like this ,it's consumer protection. Nobody forces you to buy a contract / bill item but by law you have cooling off periods and protection when the item isn't as described. We could argue that the item is no longer as described due to losing access to official Android updates and applications

Worst thing is, if we opt to sell, no one will buy it due to these restrictions. I shave 3 years on this contract... Talk about D's
Huawei unlocks its devices, we install play store services and carry on
So what…. Trump is working on the next big Economic Crisis for the US... Huawei will found a Solution and have his own Appstore
Greetings Raffi
I am concerned about the updates
Finally my p30 pro feels so snappy with 153 that made me excited about Android q and Updates then this comes along
And is it going to effect the other Chinese manufacturers like OnePlus oppo xiaomi or not, these are the only ones left to provide us with the latest best tech without the redeculas 1000$+ that's becoming normal even for LG
Stupid
I am worried about this too, it also makes me think that if this news changes soon something like this could happen in the future because of the issues regarding huawei and America and also the UK where i am stopping Huawei from creating the 5G networks.
I happened to request a return for my P30 Pro within the 14 days period, i got sent the bag to send it back in, and says i have 30 days from when i made that request, i am within them 30 days still, so not i am really wondering if i should just send this phone back and get an S10?
Apparently this happened to ZTE before however they were reinstated again and approved. So time will tells
I think I have made my mind up, I have always been with Samsung, i was really loving OneUI on my s8+ before i got the p30 pro, i only got it as i thought i'd give it a go assuming it can't be that different, i have posted many bugs and annoyances here since getting the p30 pro, some of which i have fixed, some i can't, the EMUI software is really bad and doesn't seem well developed at all.
I think i will get an s10+
I don't care. I believe that Huawei most likely have the capacity to do their own firmware now. They'll do their own firmware and run their own app store. They're big enough now that they'll be able to make it work. Will be nice to have an alternative third ecosystem in the phone world.
I guess it's good bye now to any future security patches. Don't think Huawei's own OS would a viable alternative either. It's new and it will definitely have a lot of issues with third party apps compatibility for example, syncing to wear os devices.
Anyways, it was stated that current phones are not effected by this so i guess the main issue for us now would be upcoming security patches and firmware update.
Reckon the best option would be to sell it off.

It will be like giving your phone admin access to china
Isn't android open source? The AOSP code for any future android OS will always be available. Huawei can always use androids open code into their devices for future security patches.
Google and 5 eyes are already spying on you. How come you don't care about that?
Huwaei phone will not recieve any android specifc code from Google , no more secutity updates , no more Google Play, no more APIs ,,,
Everthing is just blocked by US /Google now ,,
Huwaei journey in androd ends here as they will only have Aosp access which is plain deadland now days as most of the apis have migrated to Google play services
