Mate 10 Pro updates. - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

I got my hands on the Mate 10 pro from Vodafone in the UK. Loving the phone so far, my only gripe is its not a Dual SIM.
Are updates from Huawei pushed via the carrier or directly from Huawei?
This is my first Huawei phone, looking around on the forums it appears someone has the sole rights to the updates and you have to use their own propriety software and methods to push updates on to the handset and pay for the pleasure. I'm sincerely hoping that's not the case.
Do Huawei publish updates in a timely Manner? If someone could confirm that would be great.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
V

If the phone is branded (simlocked) you'd have to wait on the carrier to add all their junk first otherwise it would come straight from Huawei

Windows 8 Update Portico

HTC 8x has started getting updates of the new OS. Any news on when Lumia phones will get the update?
No news, but I assume quite fast for unlocked phones. Rest are subject to carriers I assume.

Supposed to be able to bypass the carriers. But considering this is the first update pushed, I'm sure we'll learn more soon.

This looks promising ?

Bypass carriers, yes. Bypass OEMs, no
This should mean that we get a 920 update for each "build" of the 920 that exists, once Nokia does whatever they do to it. They should have it from Microsoft (one would think) already.

They will have it already, and it's in Nokia's interests to get it out fast and ideally beat HTC to the punch every time, as HTC have been set up as Premier Partners. Nokia want to be THE choice for WP8 buyers, so they need to be there first with the best reputation for updates and excellent hardware.
Nokia obviously has that build available because the Lumia 920T (the chinese variant) is already running that newer build of the OS.
true, must just be waiting for the rollout ok from carriers. I'll check my 8X to see if that's updating on EE, that way we should know if the carriers are slowing things down or not with a quick carrier vs unlocked update speed comparison.
(Groan) I hope it's not the carriers. Pulling teeth with oily fingers is easier than persuading AT&T to release updates in a timely manner. :\

That enthusiasts program hasn't rolled out yet. You have to sign up to this program in order to bypass your carrier.
I flashed my EE 920 to a generic UK ROM, will this make a difference to when the update appears?

probably not, since carriers no longer decide updates, Microsoft manages it now

how do you know what rom is a generic one? I have been searching but i haven´t find it yet. can you help me'
thanks in advance
Adding to that, does 4G still work on the generic UK ROM, as EE has 4G specific software bits, e.g. the 3G/2G toggle is now the 4G/3G toggle.
So, since I have a Rogers branded but unlocked phone and running it on Telus, what bucket would I be put in? Would I get the generic updates or the Rogers? My phone STILL says that the Mobile Operator Name is ROG-CA, so I'm not too sure what to make of my situation.

You will be under the mercy of Rogers. In order to get out of Roger's grip, you will need to be de-branded. SIM unlock means nothing. In the old days of WM7.0, you can jailbreak your phone and edit a registry to de-brand. Now, you pretty much have to flash a unbranded ROM to do it.

I reject your answer and substitute it with my own. The answer is...
Crap... NaviFirm only has 2 ROMs for the Canadian versions... both of which are Rogers branded. I'm SOOL.

Well it doesn't have the name of a mobile network in the filename. I went from one with EE and UK in the filename to one which just says CV GB.

Lg H850 Uk updates?

I just been given a new Lg G5 H850 Uk sim free from work.
When I first ran the phone I had to do about 4 updates, which is now at Nov 16 and no more updates available?
I have tried over the air and Lg bridge, surely there must be a newer update than this with all the security updates Google has sent out?
My Moto Z was up to March 17 with updates.
Is this what to expect of LG?

I spoke to LG support and they said there's no need for security updates. Took 2 hours of web chat to get a phone call to tell me the same thing.
Very odd, no need for security updates???

Yup that was the official response I got from LG too. They basically either have no idea what LG ever plan to release or don't want anyone to know ?.
There are new KDZs just recently released though ?. Search around and you will find what you are looking for ?.

Yeah, I had a 1 chat with their web chat support who escalated and had a supervisor call me to say the same thing. I asked if he can assure me that my phone was safe from exploits since Nov2016 till now. He obviously couldn't so he took my IMEI to work out my model (god knows why) and then took my details to find out when the update is coming.
Suffice to say I don't expect any answers this side of the century.
Reply I just received from LG
Hi ******,
Thank you for your query regarding your LG G5,
I have spoken with the tech team in the office and they have informed me that since November 2016 there have been no security risks that have required an update so one has not been performed. If the need for an update arises then your phone will be automatically prompted to perform this update.
We tend to release these updates either when neccessary or when a large update has been created.
At this moment in time there is no reason for an update for so one has not been created, if you have questions regarding this please get back in touch.
I hope my email has answered your query and assisted you today; I would really appreciate your feedback! Please help us to improve our customer service by completing the short survey after this email.
after this answer and my experiences with LG phones, i will try an other manufacturer next time!

Actually a new update was just released recently (V20D) with the newest security patches, i think it's just a matter of time until it will hit our phones

I'm so glad I got the opportunity to give frank feedback.
I think it is quite dishonest of LG to state they are committed to monthly security updates but be almost 6 months behind... for a flagship that was released last year that's out of order.

rebranded unlocked

Hi Team. Picked up unlocked m10 pro from UK store. Put my 3 sim network in there and it's totally rebranded as a 3 phone (boot animation etc.) And not a factory reset clears it down. Other sims work but I want rid of it really. Any ideas? Thanks
You can't now. Only way is to rebrand it European build C432
Boy I'm glad T-Mobile doesn't do that stuff here in the US!
It's because 3 mobile UK have an exclusive to sell it on contact I believe
Thanks for the input peeps. Rang Huawei and they said ring 3 shouldn't be happening and also swap device 'again' back at carphone whorehouse. I'm no stranger to flashing stuff but there isn't a great deal out there on rebranding to C432 as stated previous. Any decent guides? Cheers

This is the thread you need to rebrand, the other option would be to go back to wherever you bought tickets, swap it for a new handset, get Vodafone SIM, and make sure that's the first sim you install, it has no branding as such, just two apps which can be removed.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ma...-10-flash-oreo-update-package-t3716814/page68
I bought one as well and it's also branded 3 but that's about it, apart from the Huawei apps it's fine
Are your wanting to rebrand because of the splash screen
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk
the rebranding for 3 is for a reason i believe but not sure, i've still not received an update from huawei regarding the re-branding of the phones when you place a 3 sim in it.
i think the reason is to allow the phone to use the 3 wifi calling without the actual app, i pixel xl won't work on 3 unless i use the app, but the mate 10 pro works. I've also heard that the wifi calling features of the phone do not work on O2 without an app, so it could be for this reason the phone updates and installs their bootloader.

Experience with Funkyhuawei?

Hey guys and girls.
Does anyone have experience with Funkyhuawei with a phone that Huawei didn't give the bootloader unlock code to?
Preferably a Mate 20 Pro of course.
I'm thinking about giving it a try but I would obviously have no TWRP and no Magisk.

I got my phone from funkyhuawei, 8gb 256 gig model. They say they cant provide the boot loader unlock code as it is locked from Huawei. At this moment in time it is not possible to unlock it.
I used FunkyHuawei for updates for my P20 Pro with a locked bootloader since OTA updates never seemed to arrive and the service works well. Since they only have build 122 currently for the International Mate 20 Pro which I am already on I haven't tried it with the Mate 20 Pro yet.
Bootloader unlocking codes and rebranding aren't going to be offered for this phone and the rooted Mate 20 Pro phones they were selling apparently lose root the first time you update the OS so that was a complete waste of money.
I'm happy with the update part of their service but they don't respond to emails--ever. The best way to get FunkyHuawei updates is via Twitter.
I ordered an accessories bundle from them for the Mate 20 Pro but haven't received anything so far including anything to indicate that my order was ever received, processed or shipped (it's been a week) so the jury is still out on their store. The order was paid for with PayPal so I know they did get my money.
It seems like FunkyHuawei might be a one man operation.
I didn't know that they do sell physical products like a pre rooted device.
However, I did get a very minimalistic reply to my support request.
Since I don't know the service and the price of the root service for one phone is quite high, I don't want to risk spending money for nothing.

Is there any point to purchase a unlock code for a huawei p30 lite?

Got this phone as a gift from my dad, and was exhilarated because my old phone was starting to disfunction,
had battery leakage problems and just had became a pain to use.
While the Huawi p30 lite is globally a good phone, the functionalities that I got used to thanks to 5 years of root
are starting to really miss me. I heard that I could buy a code (to unlock bootloader) from funky huawei, global unlocking and others
but don't know if there is any valuable content available post-root for this phone specifically.
Any custom rom/kernel, cool mod, etc.
And all around would it be worth it?
Thank you

You cannot buy unlock codes any longer, Huawei stopped giving them out, and other sites do not work regardless of their claims
So you are stuck with any new Huawei with no root

He's not talking about FRP unlock for lost or stolen phones, he's talking about bootloader unlock code.
you should use paid tools to unlock it
