Hi folks,
Recently picked up a Mate 10 Pro and really enjoying the phone so far. My only concern is the firmware version that I'm running.
Do these handsets need to be debranded in order to install firmware updates these days?
Will L29 firmware work on L09 versions ok?
Here are the details from the handset.
BLA-L09 8.0.0.115 (C432)
Underneath it says Custom Version : VDF.GB 8.0.0.115 (CT.F01)
Thanks
I'm not sure, c432 is Europe I thought? I got mine from cpw and it's c782 (which an agent said was UK firmware)

Yeah, you are quite right. So so strange.
I've now flashed it to a newer firmware using that Funky Chicken fella's site. Went smooth.
Before: BLA-L09 8.0.0.115 (C432)
After: BLA-L09 8.0.0.124 (C782)
The odd part is, it won't allow me to flash BLA-L29 firmwares even if they are for the EU.
I have a seriously confused phone.

Going to stick with BLA-L09 8.0.0.124 for awhile.

Any improvements with the 124 firmware? Trying to decide if it's worth spending the money. Also not sure if OTA updates will still arrive if using Funkyhuawei update method.

You can still update normally afterwards. The Funky Huawei method just gets the base stock firmware on to your phone. I checked this with them beforehand.
The phone feels a bit snappier (although its quick anyway) , there are a few more editing options for photos and they must have fixed the bluetooth because my car head unit now picks up the phone properly.
Still trying to find other differences. All under the hood stuff I suppose.

Any idea if it fixes the problem with scrollable Widgets not updating. Really bugging me at the moment.
I've just added the email widget to the homescreen so I'll see what happens once that triggers.
We're there any specific ones you had issues with?

I have spoken to Huawei customer services, wanted to make sure the build is the correct one for our region. Their agent said that he did not know the differences between c782 and c432, they're both for the european market. They're network unlocked builds, and updates will be provided directly by huawei.

Late, but finally update 12070 has arrived on the Lumia 800 for Orange/T-Mobile users, so start updating and if you're on the Singapore FW, I suggest you recover from backup and update.
Stupid Orange/T-Mobile, always late.
Still no update
Still no update for me
I have an unbranded Lumia 800 cyan from Phones4U on Orange but no update available in Zune despite Nokia Europe saying that it's available for my model (059M539 Country Variant). I swapped my Orange sim for a Vodafone sim to see if that did anything. . . nothing. recovered a backup in Zune and updated the OS again, but still no Firmware update to 12070.
If it doesn't come soon I'll take it to Nokia Care next time we're in Glasgow as this battery life is terrible (although seemed slightly better on the Vodafone sim!)
I didn't really want to start looking at the other methods I've seen of updating Just wanted to get it officially in Zune!
On searching the issue, I've seen a lot of users of 059M539 code have also not been getting the upgrade.
Same here, same model nr. Cyan Lumia from Phones4U, Orange Sim, also from Glasgow.
Oddly enough I have the latest OS version, just not the latest firmware version. Now that the volume bug is fixed I'm tempted to force a flash bypassing Zune.

Cyan models are delayed for some reason, but it should have arrived by now. Get in contact with Phones4U, see if they have any dates, since it is a batch of theirs.
Got sick of waiting so I used the update tool

I've never heard of retailers blocking updates before? However, it does seem possible as I'm seeing several reports of that specific product no not updating. Note that Nokia specifically lists it as having an update available since pretty much day 1 of the firmware being made public. I've posted a query on P4U's forum. Should have known better than to buy from those muppets, but they were the only ones at the time that had the cyans. Someone I know wants the white Lumia 710, but it's another P4U exclusive
mlaidlaw, did you update directly to 12072 with the volume bug fix, or still 12070?

Yep, I mocking how the blue plastic makes my phone somehow ineligible for software updates.
On a more serious query, does having an Orange Sim in my unbranded model phone mean that Orange still has to approve my firmware versions? I'd assume that Carriers only have a say over their branded variants?
I'm still baffled how a specific subset of a particular product code (a product code that has had the upgrade available from the day of announcement according to the Nokia sit) is being left behind? Apple really does get some things right, not letting the Carriers dictate software updates.

Yes, Nokia pushed the update, but Orange (one step further) blocked it again It's possible... Unfortunately.
Afaik two carrier websites (Fido and Rogers) are mentioning that the Oreo update is coming soon.
I reached out to LG Canada on Twitter and they said that the update is scheduled for March 2 - 9.
UPDATE: Fido now shows "coming in march" for the Oreo update for both our devices and the LG V30.
UPDATE 3/12/18: Fido now shows "coming in April" for the Oreo update for the LG G6 and "coming in March" for the LG V30.
While I'd love to believe so (the sooner the better IMHO), these accounts are usually run by people with no access to such information (i.e the support personnel); time ranges have been wildly inconsistent between groups (some going as far as July or later!) and no one seems to give a solid answer (apart from this tweet). My best hopes are for a release in late Feb-early March. Thanks for the heads-up though-- I'll keep an eye out for those dates!

No. Unfortunately, we're still waiting for the update. Oreo has been released for the V30 in Canada, which is keeping my hopes up.
I think the update will not happen until June, considering the launch of G7 on May.
Until recently, only Fido had the update to 8.0 on their upcoming OS releases page.
Now, Rogers just added it. No specific date, only "coming soon!".

8.1 has a multitouch bug that effects all devices so if anything you should be happy. I'm running it now on my essential phone and it requires a magisk fix to even be useable for games and such.
So it's definitely not march anymore. Fido's update schedule has gone from "Coming in April" to "Coming Soon". Even though it's still wishful thinking, I hope the update does come out this month. It's only a matter of time.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/lg-g6-android-oreo-update-3450889
I don't think we'll have to wait too long for the update. It's been two months since March at this point, but better late than never.
Both Rogers and Fido's update schedules still say "Coming Soon."
At least LG Canada confirmed that it's coming soon. "Soon" can mean a plethora of things, but hopefully that means we'll get the update before the end of May.
EDIT: It's been released for the Canadian market, I assume the US market will receive the update very soon!

To OP. Is your phone bound by carrier? If no, it means it is an international unlocked version. VPN wouldn't solve your issue. Your best bet is to insert another country's SIM card into your phone and hopefully receive that country's update.

This feature was available for some time now. But it depended on the manufacturer of the smartphone and carrier to work. It seems that Google made this to work without any dependencies.
