Hey all,
I'm not sure if others would see the value in this at all, but I think it'd be handy to maybe have a sticky thread with all the Custom Hero ROMs that are available and the features in each, as well as maybe the latest revision Notes.
If the scene for the Hero becomes anywhere near as big as the Dream/Magic one apart from trying all the ROM's it's quite difficult to know what each does, how it differs from the other offerings, and weather its built for speed (glorious speed), features or experimental to show off new features in upcoming firmware, etc.
Am I barking up the wrong tree here, or does anyone else think this may be a handy feature?
I think this is a good idea (providing we do get a large number of roms). I struggle to read through the dream rom forums.
This would be....
...awesome.
good idea. we have 2 ROMs now I read in one of the post someone else is going to be building another one too.
Yea, I was going to try my hand at a little ROM cooking as well, though I'm not sure if I'll be able to produce anything that Modaco/Drizzy can't. Will see when I work out all the parts of the ROM and how to sign it etc.
Failing that, for the time being, when they release new versions I'll try my hand at updaing this forum thread to suit the latest versions and show difference between the two (or more)!
Having a stickied thread that lists custom ROMs and their features and descriptions as well as links to them would be very welcome yes. I've tried Modaco 2.1 and DDR v2.0 already and Im sure I'll try many more as they appear.
I am totally new to both GTablet and also when it comes to ROM stuff!!
As I read through the thread more than 90% of users have a custom rom, vegan... etc.. No one seems to be using the default.
So my questions are
Should I root to get a different ROM?
If yes, Which should I get?
How? Post a link or sth
What are the advantages? Disadvantages?
Thanks in advance
Djapatos,
From the tone of your questions, it seems to me you are new enough at this that you
need to move slowly.
First, you need to go to Settings/About on your tablet and see what Stock Version you
are at. If you are less than Version 3588 -- then that should be your goal now.
But you may have to wait a short while because the VS update server is being
reported down and under repairs.
Meanwhile, I suggest you do a lot of reading on this site. You there are lots of STICKY
threads at the start of the various Forums which give you most of the info you need.
You also can see what people are saying about the various ROMs.
For someone as new as you, I suggest staying stock until you get confident and know
what you are doing. (And that doesn't mean minutes or hours as some folks think!)
The TNT Lite ROMS -- are a lot like stock, but add in updates, Market and other
niceties.
The VEGAn ROM -- has a very nice, mature look and offers a lot of the same updates,
etc.
I would stay away from the Experimental ROMS. They might take you too far too fast. And they are experimental......
Summary -- take your time and work your way up to what you want as you learn
how to do it.
Good Luck,
Rev
Maybe I'll get lucky again and get feedback as great as the first thread I posted here..
For noobs, prospective owners, and everyone inbetween, maybe we can get some positive input about the different features roms can include, differences in roms, etc?
What is sense? Differences between sense 3 and 3.5? What would a rom without sense be missing?
HTC seems to involve beats audio, or the hacks.. at least I have seen this around, new users might not know what this means.
..and anything else helpful for someone trying to figure these things out!
On a side note/idea
I actually wouldn't mind putting together something like the "bibles" you see stickied in some phones forums. Since I am new to the device, new to htc, sense, etc.. Maybe as I figure it all out I could organize something similar? Seems easier since the phone is new, and the processes are still evolving, rather than with a device that has a year worth of info out there.. especially as the amount of information grows quickly.
..or anyone willing to help me get started by suggesting some of the basics?
Okay so nice people, we have a lot of casual people asking this lately which oreo rom is most stable/smooth/status about known bugs. So please if anyone who has recently tried roms or even has knowledge about the status of these oreo rom and the known bugs in them, please share your thoughts. So that these guys can select the one they will like.
Just the small status about Volte, gps, camera,FP,selinux, banking apps, play store certified or not is also greatly apprecited.
Keep virtue signalling aside like it's disrespect to the developer and this and that. Understand that not everyone has the time or use device as a play thing. We enjoy doing this doesn't means everyone has to get their hands dirty. They are just here to upgrade their device.
And you can also share undergoing interesting developments by different devs, because not many are in touch with these projects as not everyone is part of telegram groups.
I would personally like to know which kernel/rom in your opinion has fastest fingerprint sensor. Currently MIUI stock is winning by a large margin IMO.
hii, I first want to apologize for my bad english, it isn't my native language. secondly i wanted to ask if anybody here knows if lineageos or anything like these custom (nearly stock) roms is going to be available for the oppo find x and how long it would take before they will be released. I'm considering buying a OPX and i am pretty new to buying chinese phones, I heard a lot of complaints about not getting a notification of whatsapp or anything like this, I really don't like the idea that I would have to open whatsapp every time to see if i got a notification or not.
thanks for your help.

No apologies needed, make yourself at home @maikonor ........... :good:
While I can't speak regarding Whatsapp, you can get timely notifications for email/other SMS/MMS messaging apps, but,a lot of digging around in the settings is involved. Nothing beyond most users expertise,it's just a lot of redundancy & repitition, but, once set-up,my notifications come through just fine.
As for development,it's not unheard of on Oppo devices, but,is it possible with this phone ? IDK if the current firmware/software will support it.
If the promise of root/ROMs is a must,it's probably gonna be a while before development takes grip,if it ever does.
I'm hoping once the phone becomes available in more markets (international release/ROM),we'll begin to see some hint of what the future holds.

thanks for your reply, root/custom ROM is not a must for me if, I (in the netherlands) at least can change my home launcher.
Hey buddy, This is my second OPPO variant. From my previous experience on R11P, it was pretty nasty. Nothing was released from OPPO to support unlocking or Root the device. However, with Find X, OPPO has launched globally. It might change its perspectives regarding playing around with the systems. who knows. I hope they do, I love flashing ROMs, lolz!

Thanks for your reply, I hope they do change perspective and otherwise I will buy an oneplus 6.
The Find 7 was unlocked and they provided a rudimentary support for unlocking and rooting, this is the last vairiant that I'm aware of that saw wide release. Realistically that's all we need to obtain root, which is pretty easy via magisk. The Chinese launcher restrictions wont exist on the international handsets, those are for the Chinese market only and you'll be able to use the phone pretty much as normal in the Android world. It's all about whether or not the bootloader is unlocked. If yes we should be able to get root ourselves without special skills. From there it's just a matter of whether anyone with skills decides to pick up the phone and develop for it and then you've got TWRP and possibly a rom or two to play with.
I hope Oppo could release international version of the Find X rom
The chinese rom is pretty much unusable in North America
If it's like OPPO's other phones from the last few years, it will have a locked bootloader with fastboot removed and they won't release any kernel source.
Chinese OPPO fans tell you,It is very hard to request a root access or source code from OPPO,or just wait a loooong time:crying:,OPPO has always been like this, and sorry about my bad English,i want say more but i do not known how to
Explain in eglish(+_+)
Hard to do in China, there are rules there prohibiting that very thing and even when those don't apply Chinese companies are rightfully afraid to do something their dictator doesn't want because their executives would like to remain among the living. Chinese leaders are pragmatists however who enjoy the riches they deny the masses which means their products need to sell on a global market so they can keep enjoying all the things their populace is denied. The last product Oppo released in the world market was bootloader unlocked and they provided support for rooting. This does not mean the same will happen now but have no doubt they are well aware that their practices with Chinese phones will kill any hope at all of selling in the international market. Something to think about; One+ is owned by Oppo. They are unlocked and fully supported.
