I've user stock MiUI in my Mido and the battery seems awesome. Unfortunately I don't like MiUI; I really like features from custom ROMS, but I'm not having a good battery performance.
Battery seems good, but stand by drain is terrible.
Tested:
Nitrogen (8.1.0) (original and with Velvet/Stormguard)
Invicta (8.1.0) (original and with Velvet/Stormguard)
Dirty Unicorns 11.7 (7.1.2) (original and with Velvet/Stormguard)
I use the same apps and functions from stock, but the battery drain in stand by persist. Battery consume (in use) is the same.

What do you consider to be "good" (in terms of percentage per hour) ?

2% in a night of stand by. In customs I've 1% by hour. I don't use 4G/GPS what causes drain. Is the same use froms stock

Well, how long is your "night"? The best I've got from SlimROM is 0.2% per hour - but between 0.3% to 0.6% per hour is more usual (depending on how many WhatsApp messages and emails I receive during the "night").
You may want to look at this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57507885&postcount=3
You should take a look into amplify and naptime. This is what I get with them.

i got better sot on custom rom than miui , try using nougat instead of oreo . im using resurrection remix more than 6 month already and still having a nice sot , 7-9hours average SOT with facebook/surfing web/lots of moba gaming etc......
RR, Lineage or Slim if you want good battery performance and I think these ROMs' battery backup out lasts that of MIUI. I'd stay away from Oreo based builds for now since they've just initialized with their development. Also I use greenify app which helps me in saving juice by hibernating apps.

hey
i want to have a better battery life and i dont know how to improve it..
can u tell me what rom and kernel has best battery life for my galaxy s2?
right now im on wanamlite la4 final and siyah kernel and from 8:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon its got 10% down is it normal? good? bad?
what is best kernel for battery life? (i dont use vcontrol)
what is the best rom for battery life?
im not gonna buy an extended battery..
thanks
so you drained your phone in couple hours, the question here would be
what were you running cause even if you get the best rom/kernel with the amount of apps or usage you can kill your battery in the same amount of time
i suggest you first find out whats drainning your current setup with betterbatterystats
and if you have wifi/3g and stuff like that on, also the brightness levels, if you have any special app that might be waking up your phone
There's no such thing as the best rom or kernel for battery life because there's too many variables that determine how long you get out of a charge. It depends on your phone setup (what apps you have installed), how you use your phone, as well as the rom & kernel.
Because of these factors, you won't see the same battery life with the rom/kernel combo I use.
You can install BetterBatteryStats (search for the thread on here) and use it to see if there are wakelocks causing your battery to drain when you're not using the phone much, for example.
Whether 10% battery loss in 6 hrs is good or bad again is impossible to answer because of the above factors. On the subject of extended batteries, I do recommend the original Samsung 2000mAh battery, what's not to love about 20% more juice & the phone only a few mm thicker ? (the phone fits in my original case with battery cover removed).

thats my battery usage... nothing has been used
is there a different battery life for modems? or its like kernel and rom like u guys said?
when i will come back home i'll upload another picture with this "betterbatterystats"
thank u all for help!
If you get BetterBatteryStats, let the phone run for a couple hrs (at least) after you install it (overnight, or whenever you think the phone is draining too much when it maybe shouldn't be, like that 8am-2pm period you mentioned in your OP). Don't post anything 10 minutes after you've installed BBS. You need a couple hours data minimum to get an accurate idea of what's happening.

Thanks.

If you have the root try use a battery caliber from play store...
if not full discharge the battery 1% ok too
turn off the phone and full charge for 3 hours
this will increase the battery life

This was after battery calibration, I have done the fully drain and charge a few times before trying to fix this issue but still happening. Don't know if the power spike drops are because a wrongly calibrated battery or a bad battery, this happens on any rom btw, currently running Slimbean 2.2

That seems pretty bad...I would suggest that you may need a new battery. However, my phone is older than yours and is still doing well so idk.
This is my battery life after fresh install of slimkat 2.3 with jbx kernel 2.1.5 have you tried to use a charging app such as DU battery saver? link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dianxinos.dxbs

Problem doesn't seem to be the battery life, is the spike drops that bother me, if those didn't existed battery would last 1/3 more.
Already tried DU before, spikes still happen and battery saving are minimal since this apps help when the phone is no in use.

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
First impressions - battery
With my old Samsung S5, if I wanted to play games at night, I needed to charge it in the end of the working day. With Redmi 5 plus I only charge when I go to sleep and it still has around 45 to 50% of available battery.
Before this I owned a redmi pro phone with 4000mah battery and I have to charge the phone about two to three times a day and with rn 5+ have to charge after one day of haves usage
42,5 hours from battery, 8 hours and 38 minutes screen-on-time

Update on screen on time
I have changed to global ROM (I was using the Chinese with English language) and it seems that the battery drains a little bit faster then before. Still it's enough for a day. At the end I have around 30%.
Not bad
From 90 percent. Miui 9.2.13.0.
Mine only 2 days
Only wifi and some music.
Very nice.
On LTE whole day
In my experience no matter what your android is you need to charge it at the day end. As for mi note 5 with calls, gaming and networking it reaches bottom by day end.
The screen on time is very good!! It minimum last me for 6 hours if I'm use it with very heavy gaming and 9hours I get in maximum SOT with normal use.
Note: I'm a heavy user! Facebook, Instagram, wechat, whatsapp, Twitter, dragon nest m, crusader quest, and etc. More than 80app in my phone.
Awesome and very impressive battery life on the Vince!
Just got my device a day ago. Charged it up to 100% and then updated apps/ OS.
My usage is limited to YouTube, Telegram and some light gaming only as this is my secondary device.
Mostly on WiFi. Using a Jio sim for data.
Not rooted and no battery optimisation done yet.
I guess I am the first user to post SOT on custom ROM.
I really hate MIUI!
I've been using the latest Liquid Remix and I am very pleased!

Guys do you use the follow come charger to charge or quick charger
Hi guys!
With your help i try to create rough a comparison between all roms and their battery usage/drain.
For sure it wont be 100% accurate because everyone uses their phone differently, but i try to value posts from similar users and usages higher and try to take an average amount. Lets try it at least.
Rules/Guidelines:
- Stock Kernal
- No bigger modifications like underclocking GPU & CPU
- [important] Post screenshot of active/idle % per hour & sot (preferably from same monitor app maybe "Franco Kernal Manager" is popular) + screenshots of full battery/device(inclusive "display") usage in settings.
- May temporarily disable battery saver apps for this day posting screenshots
- Post Screenshots of a "full day" not only of 2-3 hours and at best not more then a single day.
- Add the Rom version and Gapps variant
- Be fair & please dont troll & fake (like leaving the phone screen on while doing nothing on it or photoshop ...)
Google Spreadsheet Table
On this Spreadsheet i will collect all your data, maybe later i will drop some charts or search for a different service.
Advice/improvement tips are appreciated.
Thanks.
SOT for me means screen off time.

The details are in the last picture. I always limit battery charge to 80 % and never go to zero. No gapps. 23 frozen apps, 31 running.
Ressurection remix is f*****g insane
14h sot from 100% to 8% with every battery saving mode on

With a light use everyday (a few pictures shot and sent through Telegram, one hour music listening through bluetooth) it appears RR can last more than 10 days. I bet that if I wanted to charge to 100 %, it could last 2 weeks. I wish I had that ROM on my Mi Note 10. In my screenshots, full charge means 80 % because I want this battery to last longer.

I cant add anything to my table if you dont provide all the data i need, mentioned in the rule section. Aswell your usage is way to light for a "normal/moderate usage".
But i appreciate your images aswell, it looks insane.

That's it!? You bought a smartphone to use only two apps?
I'm on 12.5.12 stable xiaomi.eu and I can say that if I play a silly game(not intense graphics) for about 3 hours, the battery will be dead.
I can't tell if it's the rom, or the phone as it came with bootloader unlocked and xiaomi.eu weekly from november, and I switched to stable in the first day.
How's your battery life?
Also on Xiaomi.eu, but a bit older weekly, about 4 hours screen on time, but always varies a lot. But im pretty disappointed by the battery life.
Was about the same on Stock rom too.

What? 4 hours screen on time? I have a lot more on my MIX 4 (Stock).
I mean it varies a lot, sometimes it only uses 10% in an hour, sometimes it drains like crazy, but i usually just barely make it through the day.
i can get a full days use easy, but if you game on it no surprise.
If everything's ok today, I think I will move to official stable miui13

Has your battery life improved?
Unplugged it last night at about 3 AM.
Woke up this morning, used it for the whole day, including gaming like Rocket League and now I have 55%.
I keep it at the highest brightness I can with BT and WIFI6 connected, 5G voLTE and voWIFI on at all times.
I dug around the software for new features and there are some, but not usable for me.
All in all, for a China Beta it's stable and I could imagine working even better if i did a clean flash.
This is how several hours of gaming with brightness and sound @ 100% look like.

I charged it now to 100% .
I barely get 3.5 hours of screen time. Very unimpressed I mist say. My previous K20 pro used to last for 2 days when it was still new!
With the currently latest PixelExperience I get ~20h on a full charge with basically everything turned on. I do however notice the battery draining rather quickly when in use.
On xiaomi.eu 13.0.6.0 with my constant 2-3 minutes checking of new notifications and bluetooth headphones connected for 8 hours, I'm getting trough the day without any bigger problems.
//Edit1: Trying to charge as little as possible - From like 10% remaining to the full battery to keep it as healthy as possible. In the last year of this, battery lost about 11% of its capacity
