Hello!
Do You think that the 3GB RAM version of Redmi Note 4 will be sufficient? I's about 1.5 GB left to the user after switching on the phone. In future there will be updates for MIUI or maybe OS to Android 8.
Shall the 3 GB be enough in your opinion or should I be worried and definitely go buy a 4 GB RAM version?
I do plan on getting LineageOS installed on it BTW.

Note that the 4GB RAM version has 64GB of memory as opposed to 32GB for the 3GB RAM. If you plan on downloading lots of apps/games, then you should go with the 4GB one. Otherwise 3GB RAM should be enough for your average daily use. Android handles memory quite well nowadays.

Agree with you.
My one is 3GB version.
I've been using it for month. Every time I check the memory status are always show free 1GB~1.3GB...
Switching game to game are never lag. (Clash Royal, candy crush, clash of clans, mobile legend...)
Despite I don't feel any lag at all, I still not feel so satisfied the memory occupied more than 60%.
and this is still very worth to save that USD40.

If 4GB one fits ur budget then u should go for it. U will get a better ram management as well as a roomy internal storage. Tho 30-40 dollars is worth to paid on this gap.

Wont lag but switching between app would almost always resulting in the app reloading, especially chrome. 3gb is the absolute minimum nowadays for better experience.

I have a 3GB RAM version of Xiaomi and I 'm worried as I monitor RAM usage while launching built in simple apps like camera and gallery as they are eating memory like ice-cream on a hot summer day. I'm not sure how it will respond to new versions of MIUI, Android, roms etc.
Having a phone below 3GB of RAM is a TORTURE! Don't let anyone fool ya that it's not. Maybe if you install a special low-ram custom made rom designed for simple tasks with cut out services or whatever it is that the dev make to actually being able to use the phone with Android 6, 7 or even 8 on board.
BTW there are very low priced phones on the market with 1,5 GB of RAM - that's a suicide! Do not approach these kind of devices!

It's bad idea. You would shake before any upgrade of MIUI, Android, rom etc cause it may lead to slow down your phone to a very irritating degree.
But first, tell me what's the overall price for the 2GB version and what's the overall price for the 3GB version and in both cases tell me the full model name.
Tell me also what will you do with that phone other than calling, sms texting.

4gb just let you have more apps before its killed by android. If you're not multitasking in 10 apps, you wont feel the difference.

More than enough. You need 4gb if:
You install all the chat client: fb, wa, bbm, line, telegram, skype.... Then you double them with dual apps.
Or you want to split screen... Gaming while reading multiple tabs of websites while pip-ing video / streaming spotify.
Yeah, its insane....
And when you do above things. 4gb wont help you too... Your processor will lags because of too many process.
For me 4gb is a waste, but it offer +32gb storage which is more matter. You can save more picture, videos.
If you're not saving many data, its better to go 3/32... Remember that the +1gb ram and +32gb might use more power too.

There is a note 4 model which has 3Gb Ram and 64Gb storage I think it is Mediatek. Like this one advertised here

I never had a problem with a 1.5GB RAM device :b. My S3 Neo performs blazing fast on Nougat and my Y5 too which is a gig of a device

Seriously? I'd have to see it to believe it.
on stock rom there's no way these can provide good experiance while enjoying phone.
One thing you people don't see is that less ram usage doesn't mean a faster phone. 3gb might be enough for you but I'd recommend the 4gb one as it has 64gb of memory and you wouldn't find much of a lag for a few years atleadt.

My 3GB mido performs blazing fast on both MIUI and Pixel Experience. Games run great, Apps load fast, Web browsing is buttery smooth. I use my phone mostly for some gaming, YT videos and work.

I'm betting some of you have a Nexus 7, did you notice that the free ram is about 950MB out of the the Gig that it comes with?
Why do our phone only have like 720MB available if the tablet has so much more?

Of that one gig of ram there is firm ware and the OS and some preloaded apps on the Nexus 7 on your phone it is about the same but with a skinned UI and then the carriers bloatware on top of that. It all takes up ram, so no bloatware or skinned UI gives you more ram on your Nexus 7.:good:

Its full ram is used to play apps and games on your Nexus 7.
Also...the nexus tablet doesn't have a cell antenna...So no mobile data to keep track of, those services are running on your phone all the time
A friend of mine bought At&t Galaxy S3 and it suppose to have 2gb Ram but when i check the phone it show 1.6GB ram and only 1.03gb available. so i guess it is used by system or graphic or something. Just like the computers that doesn't have dedicated graphic card so if your computer has 4gb ram you would have 3gb ram available the rest is reserved for graphic. i am just assuming that the same this is happening to our phone. if i remember correctly when i had CM9 and when i went to setting, about phone it showed only 768mb instead of 1gb.

Yeah, i'm sure your right, its reserved for video and whatnot, but why doesn't the Nexus 7 need that video ram used up? It's got a pretty fast video chip too...
My only gripe with the Note is the 1GB of ram. You only have about 350mb available and as we all know, Android caches stuff you run, but most of the time your not holding many apps in that free 350MB so its always restarting apps anyways. This phone (any ICS phone really) needs 2gb of ram.
I've used the S3 and yeah, its super snappy because so much more stays in all that extra active ram... Samsung saw the light and added extra ram, I hope this is a new trend... How do we get a 2gb chip soldered in place of the 1gb chip

Our phones are deliberately under-clocked to 716, some may say it's for the battery life but I think it's because the higher clock speeds lead to shorter phone life. Using custom kernels, you can clock back up or even overclock. The payment is made mostly in battery life, but if your ROM has a memory leak of even the smallest size, overclocking will open the dam and the phone will suffer for it. Also, the phone will run at a higher temperature, which for sure will end its life much faster than leaving it at 716. This is the way I feel about overclocking: If you get the performance you want, leave it alone.

Apps are continuously closing and having to be relaunched (slower). Back in the older days of android where apps were 20-30mb it wasn't a huge deal, but some of these new games/apps take up well over 100mb of ram. everything else in the background is closed as it needs to make room..
Would be nice to have more active app space for a much smoother "multitasking" experience.
Sounds like we need a high speed dev to create some software to access the SD card and use it as ram....
Is that even possible ????...Hmmmmmm

Are you running more than one game that takes 100+ MB of RAM at a time? Do you jump from one game to another in the middle of action?
Sounds like you want to just want to be able to adjust your LMK settings. I don't believe there is kernel that lets you do that yet, but I'm sure there will be eventually.

not quite.. SDs speed of 20-30MB/s is a far cry from the 1GB of LPDDR2 "333Mhz?"in our note with a transfer rate of 5,333MB/s
Just as the title says, hasn't the Nexus 6 got 3Gb of ram, if so why not the Nexus 9?
I'm guessing it has to do with multiple channels of the memory and the memory controller on the Tegra.
My Nexus 5 with 2GB of RAM has never had any performance problems. However my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 (just sold it to fund the Nexus 9)with 3GB RAM was ocasionally lagging. The OS optimisation is the key I believe.
You have to understand nexus devices, in all honesty, do not need 3gb of rams. THeir resources are not as demanding as Samsung, LG individuals because they are not optimized. Why I was surprise nexus 6 had 3gb...also, it got a 64bit so in all honesty, it will do just fine with 2gb and may potentially have left overs after you install every app you want to install. SO end of it all, you will have wasted Ram..

Completely agree with you. 3gb is more of a selling point for now. Granted, it will make the Nexus 6 more "future-proof," but that will not matter any time soon. I still cannot consume all of my Nexus 7.2's 2gb of RAM because of the task killer anyway.

Question is why would the average consumer (which represent 99% of potential buyers) need 3 GB of ram?
Does the average consumer will prefer to buy a 100$ cheaper tablet or get 1 additional Gb of ram that they don't really need?
My gf's nexus 5 never lagged with 2gb of ram and my HTC M7 neither even if running Sense UI.

I think that you meant the Nexus 6, and I think that it is just a selling point. Other phones are going to start getting 3gb of ram as well.
Most customers (including some at XDA) only look at specs and numbers. Some like to have it just to say that they have it for bragging rights. 3GB's of ram is the same as overclocking new devices. The question is...what for?
Indeed you don't need more ram for now epically if some amount of the memory is allocated for the gpu.

I just took a look at the adreno 420 architecture. It seems it will use part of the system memory for some operations. That's why I guess you need more system ram.
If someone could confirm my saying, it would be nice

All SoC use system memory for the GPU.
Personally I'm a bit worried about the phone only having 3GB of RAM. I am a power user and play games pretty often too. I constantly switch from Chrome, Line messenger, whatsapp, facebook, skype, clash of clans, and a few other games. I switch from literally all these apps pretty much every time I pickup my phone to use.
I had the S6 Edge before and the downtime all adds up because of the crappy memory management. Even my Xiao mi 3 with 2gb RAM handles multitasking literally twice as good, but its not good enough for what I do on my phone.
Does anyone out there have a similar habit to me with 3GB/4GB of RAM device that can comment? Would love to hear from the experts here that has similar usage as me!

Dont worry about the 3GB RAM it will be sufficient for your needs. And dont based it on SGS6 because RAM management on that phone is veerry aggressive and I actually sold my S6 for MXPE 2015 because of that issue.

I'm not necessarily worried per se but I would have liked for it to have 4GB of RAM only for future proofing.
I'm buying this phone for my dad. Unlike me, he doesn't like to change his phone for at least 2- 3 years, he's been using his Lumia for 3-4 I believe and for someone like that, I think it is worth it to get something that can last a while.
Not worried at all. I'm hesitant to get my wife the 5x because of only having 2gb though.
Too many screen redraws on my xperia devices but far less on a nexus device with 2gb ram. Less bloatware on Nexus devices meaning more free ram.

The oneplus two I had almost never went more than 2.4gb in usage.

At first I was slightly concerned about the 6p only having 3GB. But after finding out it utilizes LPDDR4 RAM, I'm not too concerned anymore. The extra bandwidth of LPDDR4 will do wonders for the 2560 x 1440 display.

More RAM will be used up as video RAM for the QHD, yeah. To be honest, as bad as the Samsung phones are for memory, they're not unusable and work ok. When you think of all the crap the 6P won't have running in the background compared to the Sammys, I really think it'll work well.

I think the 6gb is the best bang for buck
$500 for another 2gb ram and extra storage ? NO !. poco can use sd card so no need to bigger build in storage and extra 2gb ram doesn't worth the extra $200
6 gb have problem... 8 gb is good
6gb is fine. Without root my phone takes up to 2.6gb of memory, phone is still smooth with the left over 3.4. With root and using greenify it only uses 2-2.2gb of memory.
If you're going to have facebook, messenger, instagram, snapchat, and all that kind of stuff running while wanting to play a high end game then maybe 8gb.
Im using havoc OS which is a heavy rom, and I play games like ARK survival and PUBG and my average ram usage is only 3.2 GB

Depends. If you use a lot of apps at the same time, difference between 6 and 8 GB is quite significant. I do and after they let us extend RAM to UFS, I even feel those 3 additional GBs giving me 11 in total. Never too much RAM if you multitask a lot.

The 6GB Ram 11 lite 5G's performance is actually good for a budget phone, there are no hanging issues also I didn't feel any heating problem and I'm using it for a month now.

I am currently using xiaomi.eu 21.11.24 and cannot find this option.

I get it, all clear.
Everything indicates that this feature in xiaomi.eu simply does not exist for this phone.
At least in the nightly version, maybe in the stable version is available, currently I have no way to check this
