Samsung Galaxy S5 bypass Lockscreen - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I read another thread in the developer forum. I'm a newbie so if I'm in the wrong place please redirect me.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620456
Long story short, I forgot my password on my Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V) and I was using the above thread to work through bypassing the lockscreen without losing all my data.
This phone is not rooted nor have I installed a custom recovery. I'm going into the Android Recovery Settings (using Method 7 see thread above).
My steps:
1. I downloaded the aromafm-2.00b7.zip file to a SD card
2. Entered Android Recovery Mode
3. Chose Mount/system
4. Apply update from SD card
5. Picked file mentioned below
I get the following message:
E:footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I've tried installing the file 2 or 3 times. I've downloaded the file again from scratch, and tried to install. All without luck. Does anyone have any idea how I can get past this? End goal is I don't want to lose my data, and I want to be able to bypass my passcode screen.
Thanks so much!

I used the new file you sent, copied it to an SD card, and put it back in my phone. I am still getting the same message.
I get the following message:

maybe we're in diferent variant,,i dont know but in g900h no problem.
anyway, in recovery u can delete manually these files:
delete("data/system/locksettings.db");
delete("data/system/locksettings.db-shm");
delete("data/system/locksettings.db-wal");
delete("data/system/applockbackuppin.key");
delete("data/system/applockpattern.key");
delete("data/system/fmmpassword.key");
delete("data/system/gatekeeper.backuppin.key");
delete("data/system/gatekeeper.password.key");
delete("data/system/gatekeeper.pattern.key");
delete("data/system/personalfingerprintpassword.key");
delete("data/validity/template.db");
mount system first, then choose file manager. i assume u know the procedures how to copy/del/move in recovery.
if not, search how to do it or learn by yourself..super easy.

To update my status, USB debugging was not turned on prior to the lockout, and in Android recovery I don't see a way to access the file manager.
Let me know if I am missing something fundamental.
Thanks so much!

Verizon 4g LTE Tab - Netflix Working

First, nothing in this post is my own work. I just wanted to compile the information for everyone else who is surely wanting to know if the 4g LTE tab can run Netflix.
Step 1 - Root:
1. Download the file from THIS THREAD POST to your Tab10.1 (anywhere should work, I went with the /sdcard folder on my tab)
2. Power Down Tab
3. Power On and when you see the Samsung Text Hold Power + Volume UP (From This Post)
4. Select the Android+Box (Volume up to switch, then volume down to select)
5. Chose "apply update from /sdcard" and select the .zip file you downloaded in step 1 (When finished, the tab will automatically reboot).
6. Verify Root - You should see SuperUser in your apps when your tab finishes rebooting.
Step 2 - Asus Transformer Patch
1. Download the Transformer Patch from THIS THREAD
2. Install Patch - I chose to use Root Explorer to manually move the libnvomx.so file into my /system/lib folder, but you could also reboot into recovery and apply the .zip file that way instead (steps 2-5 above).
3. Reboot - If you manually move the .so file you will need to reboot, using the recovery it should reboot for you when finished.
4. Watch Movies
If anyone has trouble with this Please Do Not Email Me
I am really not a pro at troubleshooting, I was just willing to take a shot at rooting and found out that it worked. Hopefully this will ease other people's minds about getting root and netflix on your Verizon Tab 10.1
Also it is worth mentioning that I did all of this without using ODIN or KIES or ADB Shell or any of those other scary things. I chose not to try to install Rom Manager of Flash Clockwork Recovery as I had heard they may cause troubles.
I noticed that you mentioned using an SD Card multiple times in this post, but the 4G LTE version doesn't support SD Cards (doesn't even have the slot).
Why the discrepancy?

He probably meant place it on the root of the drive of the tab. When you plug in your tab to your computer, you should be able to view your files there. Add the zip file to the root of that drive. Hope that makes sense.

True. I was torn with how to describe the location and decided to use SD Card to be in line with the "\sdcard" which is still in use in the file system for the tab
I guess I've been explaining the root / recovery process on the OG Droid for so long that I still toss references to "root of the sd card" and "install zip from sd".
I'll edit the original post for clarity.
Question (and thanks this is very helpful!). I'm going to do the same as you I think and stick with custom rom and no cwr. So if you need to unroot for warranty return or whatever, and we've only done the steps in this post, what do we have to do to unroot? Thanks!
This worked very well...it was almost too easy. Thank you for sharing the info.
Does it work on the wifi only model? P7510?

Not 100% sure CSGirl... in my experience, the person making the determination about warranty approvals would be the in-store rep. In that case you should be fine by just using root explorer and deleting the SuperUser app. The permissions would still be there I suppose, but the store guy wouldn't see the telltale app.
Someone else could probably give a better answer.
If you open up the .zip file for rooting and go into \meta-inf\com\google\android and open the updater-script file you can see everything that is getting changed, I guess you would just have to change that back.
Also, @wiibrewer, I have no idea
Well how about is there any reason it should not work on the wifi model?

4g LTE Recovery Mode
Good Morning: Thank you for your postings. I have a new Verizon Galaxy Tab 10.1 4g LTE. I am not able to get the device into recovery mode. Is there a procedure for rooting that can eliminate that step or is there an alternate way to get in to recovery mode? Any assistance will be appreciated.
I found that the volume up button is the one closest to the power button and not the actual volume button if that solves your problem

I can boot to Download mode and use Odin3 but can't boot to recovery mode... I get a blank screen with slight edge glow. So the older way to root won't work either, since you can't get to Recovery mode to finish the job.
Any suggestions? Would a Factory data reset work.

[Q] How to Root Toshiba Regza IS04

I'm a complete noob and I've searched the forums and can't find an answer to my questions. (I'm sure there's some answer in Japanese on a Japanese forum somewhere, but my Japanese is not up to that level.)
I have a Toshiba Regza IS04 from AU (in Japan).
Running Android 2.2.2
Baseband Version 5014.1907.39
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-rel [email protected] #1
Build Number FFK300
I have been researching rooting on and off for months since I first got the phone and have decided I would like to root it. My reasons for rooting:
1. I want to get rid of all the apps that were pre-installed that I don't use.
2. I would like to have the latest version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. (I doubt that another authorized upgrade from au is ever going to happen, since the 2.1 to 2.2 upgrade.)
It seems from reading forums that there are special builds of an OS depending on the phone?
My questions:
1. What is the best way to backup my phone before rooting?
2. What would be the best rooting method for my phone (SuperOneClick?)?
3. How can I (or even can I) upgrade my Android to 4.0?
Thanks for any help!!
Sam
To answer my own question, in case any one else wants to know:
Okay... it looks like I cannot post external links... until I post 8 times, which I don't really predict doing... so I'm going to try just removing the http at the beginning and see if it will go.
Superoneclick v2.2 does NOT work with this phone. It gets through "Rooting device... Step #7" but cannot remount.
Unrevoked does not work.
Z4root also does not work.
But I found a Japanese site with directions that did work! YES!!
hibari.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/smartphone/1320415141/
Somewhere in the page was the following information and link:
■auto_rootkit_is04_v0.5+suhax
hotfile.com/dl/134084004/f59084e/auto_rootkit_is04_v0.5suhax.zip.html
I downloaded the zip file and extracted it. I clicked on adb.exe first and then clicked on the auto_rootkit_is04 batch file. I just hit enter after each step. (It's in Japanese, but all it says is each step it is doing and then to hit any key.)
The first time I ran it, it did not work. The second time, I turned my phone off and on again before trying anything, and bingo: I had root!
Some of the Japanese threads were saying something about the problem with superoneclick was that the is04 took too long to mount and so there was an error. At least, I think that's what it said. My Japanese is okay, but not always good enough for this type of stuff.
I hope this can help someone else.
Thank you so much for this response!
I have the same phone, and I've been wanting to root it for a long time. There were so many pre-installed applications that are just hogging room, especially since I can't read Japanese well enough (yet).
-T
I hope it works for you too!
I spent probably the equivalent of 2-3 days searching over the last few weeks, but couldn't find anything that I was comfortable with trying.
This morning, I finally got the nerve up to try superoneclick and was really disappointed when it wouldn't work. Then I started trying all kinds of methods, and about 8 hours later finally came across the method that worked!
It's probably the only thing frustrating sometimes about having a Japanese phone: lack of English support!
Now I'm just hoping I don't break it! I'm backing up all the apps with Titanium backup before I start deleting them one by one. I would hate to delete something that is crucial to the system and not be able to restore it. I'm also looking into other ways to backup the system.
One word of warning. Your au one market will not work unless you do one more step. It's mentioned in English in the readme file. I didn't bother because I never download from it anyway. (Although, I probably should just so I'll keep getting updates on some of the J apps that I do have.)

hi!
I am a newbie here and like you all, I would also like to root my regza phone. Can someone give a working auto_rootkit because the link above is not working. I have searched it as well on the net but still all will lead me to dead hotfile link. Or someone could send me the file instead to my yahoo mail [email protected] tnx in advance
And also i have downloaded this rootkit instead from IS04 and downloaded. After dowloading, I click the adb file and it appears a command screen with commands running so fast. Next i did click the root file and there appeared a command screen with all sorts of command running so fast. My question is, i did not received any confirmation that the rooting process was succesfull. And also i have read to other forums that one thing you will notice that rooting was successfull is that 'superuser" will be automatically installed.
Please help me on this one. To be honest I started exploring this process since i have this phone and there are apps that i wanted to uninstall not unless i root the phone.
Thank you in advance

Hi
I have this phone too. And I try to get root, you can send for me the link of you downloaded and explain for me how you made it.
Other question, I can use this phone to call in brasil?
Thank you.
:good:
My phone just had this phone and I'm trying to update it before rooting. It came with 2.1-update 1 OS version and I'm trying to update the phone to it's latest official 2.2.2.
I've downloaded the necessary 256mb file update but it didn't work. Even tried using the recovery but is still not working.
Based on my research about this phone, There's no way to update without the phone downloading the app from the official website, using the SIM and au logins.
We've lost the sim (UIM) card that came with the phone. So I guess its stuck on its current OS. I'm having trouble installing apks (Gingerbreak and even normal apps) as it always gives me the error "parsing error" or something.
Is there anyone could help?
EDIT:
I have successfully updated the phone from Android 2.1-update1 to Android 2.2.2.
Download all the necessary files here:
http://www.fmworld.net/product/phone/is04/
I have used the method of updating from the least upgrade and up to the latest. I have managed to download 3 separate files for the upgrade, namely:
IS04_RC2_RC3RE_DL.zip
IS04_RC_4.zip
IS04_TO_SP_FYRC_4.zip <- froyo update
I have extracted all the files on the sd card. make sure that the ".enc" file is found on the root of the SD Card and on the "prg" folder.
I have updated it using the recovery mode (power + volume up + camera button).
I am now currently trying to Root the device using Gingerbreak and seems that it's taking too long to root.
Also. I have able to root the 2.1-update OS using z4root.

Thx so much for your posts.
I am so glad to finally find someone with the same phone, the same problem and intentions
I do, however, need more info:
Did you extract the files into any particular folder? You obviously hooked up in de-bug mode, but did you command prompt anything?
I tried your steps but get nothing to 'hit enter' on. I have also tried the other (different version) toolkit.
You can IM me or email or post or come around and root my phone yourself - I will sell you my car, house, wife...
... as you can tell I am a little frustrated ...
lets just IM/email for now
Thx in advance,

Partition Tables- Get them here

Hey guys, there's a ton of confusion going on because of partition tables and what not. The Galaxy Player 4.0 uses a BML partition table. The Galaxy Player 5.0 uses a MMC block partition table. I ran into problems with 8g versus 16g partition tables because the 8gig won't work on the 16gig and vice versa. We need a master list of PIT files. This is that master list.
International is the standard version. Because of copyright problems, US versions may be different.
PARTITION TABLES
Galaxy player 4.0 16gig thanks some korean site.
Galaxy Player 4.0 US 8gig thanks hyperrunner
Galaxy Player 4.0 International 8gig thanks zaclimon
Galaxy Player 5.0 16gig thanks ishish9
Galaxy Player 5.0 US 8gig thanks redpirate8
Galaxy Player 5.0 International 8gig thanks aillez
Please post your partition table and I will link it in the above. If you have one which is not in the list, let me know.
How to obtain your partition table
Download Heimdall Suite here: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Open "heimdall-frontend"
if you encounter errors in windows, you need to install the zadig libusb driver. Remember to "show all" from the menu in the program.
Put your device in Download mode
Click the Utilities tab
select an output filename. The file should always end with a "pit" I'd recommend something descriptive. eg..
GalaxyPlayer4.0-16G.pit, or G70-GalaxyPlayer5.0-8gig.pit
upload that file to http://mediafire.com
I recommend Mediafire because they have no distracting adds, no 50 second wait time, no signup, and everything is straight forward as opposed to 99% of the other file hosting sites.
post the mediafire link here in the forum
Ok, first, I don't think there are 16gb versions, other than maybe one for korea?
Second, The main issue here is the international version vs. the U.S. version, I believe there is quite a bit of difference in the firmwares of these versions, so you should probably have sections for "U.S. 4.0, U.S 5.0, International 4.0, International 5.0"
You might get more positive results that way
I am needing the 4.0 U.S Pit, btw, so thank you for creating this thread!
Edit: also, didn't you say in your other thread that heindmall doesn't work with these?
Here you go,
DOWNLOAD
P.S. - I couldnt get it the way you asked me so i ran terminal and used this code.
dd if=/dev/block/bml2 of=/sdcard/part.pit
Also this is the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 U.S. 8GB Version
Thanks, but it still doesn't work!? Stuck at "set partition" forever!

You need to get the Heimdall partition. I observed the same behavior before. and I was thinking it was a fluke.. It looks like on this device the heimdall dump will set the partitions, a bml dump wont.
I'll remove that and we're back at square one.
We could really use some participation here. You'll be thankful if you brick your device. Currently there are no recovery options... This is part of creating the first one ever.

Try making sure you have the samsung usb drivers installed; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
and usb debugging enabled in /settings/applications/development. After that is enabled, just plug it into the pc, don't select connect to computer.
All that is installed, just cant seem to connect ive checked everything.
You are going into download mode, correct?
Edit: Do you have the proper package for your os?
Adamoutler, have any advice?
Edit2: Figured it out, go to "drivers" in the heindmall file, run the zadig.exe, select "list all devices" in options, then install "Samsung composite USB".
Worked for me!
Edit 3 : Thanks i got it, i guess win was'nt detecting it.

Don't listen to this. He does not know what he is talking about.
Make sure you select all in zadig, and try rebooting.

EDIT:
Nevermind it doesn't work. DO NOT FLASH THIS PIT FILE. Now I get a bunch of E: failed to mount errors.
Now I'm bricked too. Need a valid PIT file to flash back to stock.
WAIT, ive seen some videos in which you flash it. Most of them the md5 or tar file contains more stuff other than factoryfs.rfs and zImage.
Or is that ok since its not a phone if it is not or there is a problem just tell me and give me the commands to retrieve these needed files and i will make a new Firmware.
EDIT 2 Look im trying my best i can. I have never used odin or kernal and all the other files md5 or commands so dont give me any crap. Ive been trying to help you guys from the start. Im trying to learn while doing this it is not simple. Other morons would not even get passed the commands on terminal. If you dont want my help well then you wont get it. Currently im the only one helping you guys. As i said in the post above me if you need any other files in the md5 just give me the commands and i will reupload them.
EDIT 3 NVM

This is a USA 4.0 correct?

[Q] How do I install custom roms on my rooted Galaxy Player 5.0 USA?

Well, I am new to this forum because I recently bought a Galaxy Player. This is my first Android device and I have rooted it using SOC. I have installed clockworkmod but there is no option for the Galaxy Player. I have downloaded the ICS rom for the 5.0 USA version and I am just a complete noob to custom roms. Can anyone direct me to a goods tutorial on this or just a quick rundown on how to do it, I am just a really confused 14 year old... Thanks

just pretend you didn't do any of that and...
1. download odin3 v1.3 (windows application)
2. download the samsung usb drivers and install them, i can't remember where i got them
3. plug phone into usb, turn off while plugged in, turn back on while holding volume down (maybe it was up?)
4. go into odin and click the pda button and select...
5. this file and press "start" (i think that's what it's labeled)
6. the phone will reboot itself back to normal
7. copy this zip onto your sd.
8. turn the phone off, and turn back on while holding volume up
9. back that **** up, i dunno what the hell it's labeled
10. wipe data/cache/dalvik (dalik is under advanced)
11. choose to install zip from sd, choose the "this zip" from step 7
12. choose install from zip again -> ICS ROM you downloaded
13. reboot, try out ICS for 2 seconds
14. turn off, boot into recovery (the volume up + power **** we keep doing)
15. install from zip -> Google Apps zip
16. reboot and enjoy ICS and google apps and all the other cool stuff the internet has to offer
Thanks! Very well written, I'll try it out later tonight.
I have installed it successfully, however I don't think it detects my internal SD card. Do you know why that is?

idk what you mean by "it" nor do i pay attention to my internal at all since i have 32gb external
I meant the device doesn't detect it, and I do not have an external at the moment.

This is why you should always read the entire post when you download a ROM. That issue is mentioned several times through the thread, and it has yet to have been resolved to the best of my knowledge. But always look into what your flashing, otherwise you'll probably end up with a really shiny paperweight on your hands.
Yes, I should've looked at the whole thread but I f'd it up badly now... So, I read what you said about the "SD card problem in the thread" and I took a look and saw that you had to switch around /emmc (I think?) and /sdcard around in the vold.fstab file in the /etc directory. SO, I was stupid and extracted the whole .zip of the ROM, changed the contents in the vold.fstab file, re-zipped it up, and tried to flash it again. Unfortunately, I tried to flash but this is what CWM Recovery said:
-- Installing: /emmc/ICS/3-31.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
... It's probably because the signature verification failed (because of no signature). And I was also being so stupid as to deleting the original ROM off of my SD card... I also note that I am doing this all from an internal, I do not have an external... This is what I am going to:
Get an external microSD and microSD reader for the PC
Put the original ROM on it
Flash it from the external
I am guessing that it would work from that way, as I probably f's up the internal. Can someone clear this up? Will this method work?
Disregard my last post, I am all set back to the stock ROM with no problems. Anyways, thanks for the support, and I will always try to look at the whole thread before flashing a new ROM.

Check here this forum has a lot of custom roms for the SGP player and a lot of smart people who explain it as good as M.I.T.

Softbrick: Can't format system partition

Hi all,
to make it plain and short: I messed up.
I have a GT-S5830i which I unrooted according to the Sticky Note in the forum, installed CWM Recovery and then 'installed from ZIP' a CM9_cooperve_Beta_05.zip that I found in one of the posts in the forum. The installation went on without error message but since then the phone does not make it beyond the initial screen "Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i". I can start recovery mode and Download mode. In reovery mode I can format cache, data, sdcard, sd-ext but *not* system. Error Message: "E: format_volume: make_ext4fs failed on /dev/block/st19"
I have tried already several methods according to the forum, e.g.
1) 'install from ZIP' older Cyanogenmod
2) the tool ext4_formatter.zip
3) re-flash with ODIN with several tar-ROMs, all failed. Odin finds the phone (since I start Odin as Admin now), but after I hit 'start' it tries to establish a connection to the phone and ends after a while with 'Failed'
I'm basically lost now, don't know what else to do. Any advise is appreciated (it's my mom's phone, she is getting impatient )
Thx, cheers!
Xala
Hi @xalarsk , So you can't format your /system partition , which is required for installation of your rom ,, you need to try this method from here mate . Follow my instruction from the line @post#4 :"1. Download one of the newest ,,," to the end of the post and please do not use CM9 beta , because it is unstable and will wreak havoc with your system eventually . ( either cm7 or cm11 is the place you should go for CyanogenMod experience for cooperVe device ).
If you fail at any level please give us your logcat ( error massage ) for better support for your Odin process you mentioned .
Cygwin not working
Hi @ehsanotaku,
thank you for your quick reply, it's appreciated!
Unfortunately I couldn't get cygwin to install all necessary packets. The ZIP-test always failed. I have a Linux system running (Linux Mint 17) though, and hope that might help. In the meantime I tried to download the already split packages as described in another of your forum posts, but the website provides only exe-files instead of zip-files. Is there another location to download them?
#UPDATE: It seems there is a SplitFUS2 version for linux somewhere but couldn't find links to download. Anybody can help? I'll also PM Doky73
Cheers, Holger

Cygwin was meant for windows platform to get the native Linux environment/command line you already got there . You can create a virtual instance of the windows 7 inside virtualbox or any kind of apps you are preferring such as Vmware/Parallel etc etc to get the job done .
Splitfus2 only supports windows platform as far as i know mate,,, either vitalization as i said or the pre-made zip package ( which is clearly not .exe file ,, push the download now and get yourself a descent downland manager,, tested and zip packaged delivered ) from here is the feasible approach for your problem .
Ok, had all the files ready, just the Boot loader <DefaultCalDataWithBoot_S5830iXXLB1_REV00.tar.rar seems to be broken. I downloaded the link provided in your post #8 several times with several download managers, also uses 7-zip and several online unrar services..result always the same: The archive is broken. Is that possible? Would you mind to check yourself?

Another fellow had similar issue with my attachment that was corrected here @ post#27
Unbricked, SD card not recognized
Update: Phone has been unbricked, many thanks for that!
Currently I have still issues with the external SD card, which also holds the ZIP files. Phone won't recognize it, not even format it properly. Still working on that.
Cheers, Xala

Mostly this happened because of the bug inside CM9 beta you used . Study this topic mate i troubleshooted while ago for a sample of the symptoms external SD card would show after unstable ICS usage .
Also as an alternative to the method i instructed there , you can format/Re-partition your SD card by putting it inside card reader and using app such as free MiniTool Partition Wizard "Gparted" tool for Linux users Or "iPartiton" for Mac users etc etc ,, to get the job done . You can find several tutorials inside XDA for this matter mate.
Phone works with CM7.2, can I upgrade to CM9?
Hi again,
first of all, props to @ehsanotaku, I will hit the 'Thanks' buttons.
Now, this is a bit beyond the topic, but I'd like to ask anyway for recommendations of CM9 roms. The one I picked from a post inside this forum bricked my phone and made me start this thread, I don't want to go down this road again. So I'd be glad for any recommendation of a stable ROM that will put my phone beyond Android 4.0.
Cheers again,
Xala
So i have a similar issue. I used to have CM11 installed, but i figured thats too slow for me. Then i went back to stock rom (XXMJ2) which works fine. But now i have a problem.
Everytime i want to flash a stock based or cm7 based rom on my phone, it gets messed up. Today i wanted to flash this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-ace/s5830i-develop/cm-7-2-kitkat-smart-r2-t3075267
i naturally downloaded clockwork mod recovery (5.0.2.6) and tried to flash it. Flashing was done pretty quickly (10 seconds or so) and when i rebooted, i obviously got stuck at sammy logo. Now booting back to the recovery (first e3 then cwm) i got bunch of error about partritions not being able to be mounted (happens the same if i want to manually mout them or format them)...
So, what to do ?
I have a suspicion, that flashing CM11 and the latest cwm recovery for it somehow messed up partritions.

ok not going to excruciating details of symptoms and explaining all of your errors for now just please read my advice @ post2 of this topic and follow the procedures accordingly and finished it with formatter tools and cm7 instructions you will find there ., after that you can install Kitkat Smart R2 like you are coming from another CM7 build instruction . btw some problem regarding super user privileges and play store 492-498 infamous bug was reported for this fairly new development .
