After searching the forums this seems to be an LG specific issue and dates as far back as 2012 on some models, however the suggested solutions have not worked for me, so I am hoping that there may be another way around.
So I got a US998 (carrier unlocked US) V30 and I stuck my cricket wireless sim in and all works flawless. When I try to do a software update I get the message 'Your phone is not registered yet'. So OK, I go online and register the phone using the model code and IMEI, but still no luck.
Then I followed the suggestion of installing LG PC Suite, which tells me that this phone is not compatible and I should use LG Bridge. That connects but gives me in a nutshell the same issue that it cannot get an update due to some issue.
One suggestion was to use the main carrier sim, which in my case would be ATT, but I don't know anyone who has ATT as service. I guess I could ask some random strangers if they are on that service and if they would be willing to let me use their sim in my phone, but unlikely.
Has anyone encountered this issue and what did you do to get your phone to update?

There's no update for this phone yet.
By the way, I use AT&T SIM card for AT&T Prepaid. Same exact SIM card as AT&T postpaid (contract) customers.
Not sure why you are getting that error message. When I check for update, it says I have the latest software. I didn't register anything online, didn't connect to any software.

I am on Cricket, which operates on ATT network, is even owned by ATT, but apparently is not recognized by LG as one of the carriers.
As I said, others all the way back to 2015 suggest to remove the cricket sim and insert an ATT sim, which apparently registers the phone properly on ATT's network and thus allows for OTA's to occur.
I am aware that no current updates are out, but when they do I don't want to be stuck on 7.1.2. Anyway, I will ask around at work when I get back next week. There are bound to be some folks around that use ATT.
I'm using ATT post paid monthly plan with an old sim card from my previous phone, and it works fine on my us998. However, for some reason, on myatt page this phone is not being recognized, so I went to att store and asked someone to help me registering this imei in their system, but after they entered my imei they say this number is unknown to their system, so it can't be registered. I don't know whether that will cause any problems in the future, but since the system updates should come from LG but not att so it should be fine.

My AT&T SIM card also worked fine but I wanted to make sure I was getting the fastest speeds, so I took the phone to AT&T store and registered it in their system. Since AT&T also sells a branded LG V30, there was no issue registering it. They know what an LG V30 is. They just needed the serial number.
Whereas three years ago, for both mine and my wife's Moto XT1225 (international version of the Droid Turbo) which I imported from another country, I told them to register it as a Moto Nexus 6 -- closest they had in their system. Same manufacturer, 90% same specs, just a more reasonable size of the Moto Nexus 6. That worked.
You are right that system updates for the carrier unlocked US998 will come from LG and not AT&T or any carrier.

So neither one of you is getting a pop up message when you try to do a manual check of software updates (see the attached images)?
Yesterday I registered the device with the 14 digit MEID hoping that was the trick to get rid of the message but no luck, today I added the IMEI which adds a digit as a second product on LG's support page. Maybe that is what I am missing.
I'll contact LG next to find out what is going on. I can also not take advantage of the 2 year warranty as the guy I bought the phone from won it during a LG promotional event in NY so no purchase receipt apparently exists. Oh well.

Here's the message I'm getting when I click on software update. Took the screenshot last night when I first replied to you, but Tapatalk app was fighting me in trying to attach it. Said I didn't have "permission" to include attachments to this forum, when I include attachment all the time.
I plan on voiding the warranty as soon as possible on both my LG V30 and V30+.

LG UP might be an option for me I guess if I can't get this worked out. I am new to LG phones so gotta do a little reading up to understand how that all works. Guessing it is similar to ODIN on the SGS phones that I am used to.

I just set up my 3rd carrier unlocked LG V30/V30+ last night. For each, when you go to the software update section you have to agree to all the legalese the first time. You did that? Several boxes to check and agree to before it will check for updates.

Of course, as mentioned before I'm using AT&T Prepaid SIM cards. Real AT&T, not Cricket. And yes I know AT&T owns Cricket. But there's a reason you'll never see an AT&T logo anywhere near a Cricket store, and they don't let Cricket use the same AT&T SIM card postpaid/prepaid users do. Cricket is configured as an MVNO. I don't know why that would matter in this case, but possibly some way AT&T botched something else with Cricket?

Tell me where you bought your phone? You say "carrier unlocked"...
Is it...
* "open market" US998, official carrier unlocked model bought from authorized retailers like B&H Photo or Best Buy --
or is it...
* the unofficial carrier unlocked model from U.S. Cellular? Either bought from them or through eBay seller?
They are both "US998". But if from U.S. Cellular, then technically it is a carrier phone. Which may affect how updates are checked, distributed.
Just throwing out ideas.

So after checking again, you are spot on. This is the US Cellular version, so now what? I am stuck not being able to take updates unless I become a USC customer?
I bought the phone from an ebay seller who won the phone during a LG promotion in NY and he states that it was unlocked, which I can confirm since it took my Cricket Wireless card without any issue, but not being able to update will be a big worry for me.

Others have bought the U.S.Cellular model to use on other carriers, and they haven't posted any issues -- but they bought from U.S. Cellular itself. Whereas this one was a prize in a contest given by LG. So, maybe it's not "registered" in U.S. Cellular system like ones they actually sold? Basically something has slipped through the cracks.
This sounds like a Tier 2 support question for LG customer service or U.S.Cellular.
Sorry you're going through this.

Hello,
I also would like to know, I am on the same boat.
I got it used, the previous owner said he won it from LG event.
This is US Cellular version US998, but I can use it on my AT&T.
The thing is there is no US Cellular branch in southern CA.
Please post how you do.
Thank you so much!

I guess next step is to get LG's attention and hope there is a fix for this.
The other odd thing is that I cannot get LG Mobile Support tool installed.
Downloaded the drivers, installed them no issue. Then downloaded the tool and it always gets stuck during the installation process with an empty popup alert window. with a button that has not description, but when I press it the popup closes and the installation stops.
Has anyone successfully activated a B&H unlocked V30 or V30+ on Sprint? I've been told it should work and 4 people at Sprint said I need a new phone with an unlocked MEID # but I suspect it's a Sprint thing. B&H has offered to exchange.
I've done a lot of googling and have found no definitive answers.
No one?
Here is the answer from Sprint on their support community board.
Re: Unlocked V30+
Good morning! Unfortunately, this device is not listed as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) eligible device. This is because the device doesn't support all the Sprint bands so it wouldn't be a good experience for the customer to activate the phone since they won't enjoy a good service from us.
Re: Carrier unlocked V30+
Hey keithgreen66. Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately Sprint is only accepting the LG X charge as a Bring Your Own device. This is because not all device are comparable with out Network.

Have you found a solution? The real issue here is that LG did not ship the unlocked versions with an exchange ready rom. My phone did not have the LG email client and also did not have the exchange app. Without these you're stuck. I have tried installing the APK for both, but they're not working.
My Airwatch agent enables the email client but when I go into it I have no emails and no folders. It constantly crashes amd I cannot compose emails. Not sure if there are more apps required to make this work, but right now I'm stuck using a terrible 3rd party app called touchdown. Its terrible and will cost $20 for a perm license.

Nine app is much better than Touchdown app for corporate email. I used Touchdown for several years, but a couple of years ago they got bought out by Symantec and went to crap. I dumped them and went with NINE. Yes, Nine is a paid app too, but works well. Costs less than Touchdown app.
Also chek out this list below. Says Blue handles Exchange and is free. Nine (paid app) is also on that Top 10 list...

I was going to ask about the V30+ US998 doesn't have Email for exchange. I am kinda disappointed that LG doesn't include Email app.
I am forced to use Gmail for exchange. Now my Gmail and Exchange have the same icon in the notification bar. Is there a way to change my Exchange mail to different icon in the notification bar?
I have tried Microsoft Outlook and I don't like it. Is there a risk using third party (Touchdown and Nince app) for company emails?

I also use Nine. Only down for the app is the price. (15 bucks)
Other than that, it is best app imo.
I used to use MS Outlook on the other phones, but somehow outlook does not work with LG phones on syncing contacts.
I tried on G6 and V30 but did not work. Only email part works.
I paid 15 bucks for Nine. It works pretty good!
The problem with these apps youre referring to is that they aren't accepted in our MDM server, so my only option outside of touchdown is to make my v30 use the preinstalled LG email app and dependencies to make the lg Airwatch service sync up with that email app..

I started using Nine while working for a top corporation (ranked in the top 50 of the Fortune 500). Touchdown also worked previously, but then was bought by Symantec and they ruined it. I switched to Nine and it worked EVEN BETTER. With a company that has tight security.
I've since changed jobs to another company, and my Nine configured perfectly once I put in the proper server information. But a co-worker with the Outlook app had to have one of the IT people personally configure his, even though he was using the same information I used. (They wouldn't talk about what they had to change.)
So, there's nothing wrong with the Nine app -- but apparently only your company whitelists Touchdown? Or have you tried contacting your IT department?
Yeah, they are only allowing touchdown. I have no idea why they arr that stringent. Touchdown is a horrible horrible horrible app... I'm ready to return this and buy the verizon locked v30 just to stop using TD.
I got email and exchange installed but mail keeps insisting that I need to give it "phone" permissions, but thats not an option under permissions, so I'm kinda stuck. I'll talk to our sms group in a little bit and see if I can get around this.
It all beats using the company provided iPhone though.

So far, I have not seen anyone on these threads claiming to have activated on Sprint with a US998. I am a Sprint customer looking for a new high end phone with unlocked bootloader and have been following the progress of the v30 for several months hoping it could be my next device. Based on information I've found in these threads the US998 does not support band 26 and 41 which are sprint bands. It does support band 25 but one band out of three is not going to cut it.
The quote from kgreen66 in post #3 more or less says the same thing
"This is because the device doesn't support all the Sprint bands so it wouldn't be a good experience"
This leads to my question;
Is it possible that somewhere in the future the radio software or firmware from the Sprint version for the v30 (LS998) would be able to be somehow installed on the US998 such that it would have bands 25, 26 and 41 and work with the Sprint network and maintain unlocked bootloader?
If that was somehow possible could a workaround be devised to get around the fact that the phone would still have a US998 IMEI/MEID that Sprint might not want to activate because they think it doesn't support all the right bands?
I'm just trying to determine if there is any possibility that I could ever have a fully rooted, bootloader unlocked v30 on Sprint.
If you want an unlocked bootloader don't get the Sprint ls998. The bootloader is locked, they removed fastboot, LG bridge doesn't seem to work, and all the software is provided by Sprint servers. I can't find a Sprint tot or kdz file anywhere. It's pretty locked down. Not sure if the us998 will work on Sprint with all bands.

All LG images are now signed and you can't crossflash firmware to other variants with different model numbers.
Someone with a banned Sprint V30 (there's lots of them on eBay) was able to find an "unlocking" service that "changed" his phone to a U.S. Cellular model US998. At least enough to let him use it on a GSM based carrier. It didn't REALLY change firmware, it changed an identifier -- which is illegal in some countries and banned from discussion by XDA. So, we'll leave it there.
It's ironic you want to do the opposite... You want to change a good open market (official carrier unlocked model) LG US998 to pretend to be a carrier-locked Sprint phone.
Maybe it's possible, using those same methods, but it's seems it would be harder to fool Sprint into thinking it's their own branded phone. Surely there's more metadata they can check with their own systems.

LG V30 Sim Unlock Code
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3665928
That whole thread is basically about Sprint phones. The answer is, not without doing things that are either illegal or forbidden by XDA to discuss.
Don't mess with problematic Sprint phones, unless you're a Sprint customer. And even then "bad ESN" Sprint phones won't be released by Sprint to Sprint customers.
There's better options. For instance, the U.S.Cellular model US998 is already SIM card unlocked. Or the open market LG US998.

I've been searching or Sim Unlock Solution for an LG V30+ I got from eBay. Anyone that has overcome this challenge.
should help.
Don't update to Oreo on Sprint if you need to edit apns. I can't add apns anymore..
I have the same problem. Yesterday the Oreo update hit and as a result wiped out my carrier unlock status and now network APN is grayed out. Sprint is unwilling to help and AT&T acts clueless on how to resolve the issue. Seems like my options is either send the phone to LG or sell it to someone.

Yeah, I know. That's why I'm not bugging AT&T about it as I think their resources would be limited since the device is issued by Sprint. I went ahead and gave that LG Sim Unlock site a try so we'll see if that works. For $13 bucks I have nothing to lose. If not then I'll have to make a trip back to the Sprint store and find a way to get the device to talk to their network long enough to reestablish the unlock status from their server. I guess what upsets me the most is the fact that I specifically asked them about this scenario and I was assured that it was not going to be an issue and yet here I am. :/
I went back over to the Sprint store where I originally established service and they put me in touch with their International dept. The rep told me that according to my IMEI number that my phone was still considered to be carrier unlocked and they told me that I have to take the issue up with AT&T. I'm not sure what AT&T can do if they can't access the Mobile APN network settings but I'll bite and try them but I think it's going to come down to being it's not an AT&T problem.
I sure hope that Sim Unlock site comes through or I'll have an $800+ paperweight.
Sorry to hear man. I'm having the same issues. Asked the same questions as well before unlocking. It was unlocked on nougat but relocked after Oreo update. Before the update, they told me the unlock is permanent and that a factory reset or firmware update wouldn't change it. I called, they said "your device is unlocked" which is bs. I'm still trying to get this issue resolved. Thought I was the only one having this issue. Sprint shenanigans...

Yeah... Well, I got my unlock code from LG Sim Unlock and i'm still in the same boat with a disabled Mobile networks section. It was worth a try for $13.
I think what I am going to do is go back to the Sprint store and get a prepaid 30 days and use that as a method of allowing the phone to communicate back to Sprint's internal servers for UICC unlock if I'm understanding the underlying technology correctly. Once the phone has communicated with their servers then I'll try to switch back to my AT&T sim and see if I can modify the Mobile network settings.
SD
I tried another Sprint SIM, multiple factory resets and even used the APN reset code provided to me by Sprint which is ##72786#
So far no go. At this point I am now climbing the executive branches on AT&T, LG, and Sprint to get a resolution. My phone worked Sunday. Someone pushed the update and that organization is responsible for the downfall of the device and it is that company's responsibility to fix it. if I don't receive adequate resolution from any party then I will just hire a lawyer to deal with it but we're not at that point yet. AT&T has yet to respond at all which is disturbing since I am a current and very long running customer (going back to the PacBell days). Maybe AT&T just doesn't care anymore. Hard to say. As far as Sprint goes they have at least been willing to respond and at least try to diagnose the issue in attempt of a resolution. So while their voice/data platform sucks I have to give them credit on the customer service side even though some of their staff are uneducated in knowledge regarding the equipment at which they deal with and manage. At this time this is what Sprint speculates the issue to be:
From what I am showing, not all carriers have launched the Oreo update on their LG V30 devices. Which is mostly likely the reason you have mobile network options with a Sprint SIM in the device. You will need to contact LG to see if they can give you additional information on how to get the previous software on the device, or contact your current carrier to verify any information on Oreo update. -YF

So I am now awaiting to hear anything from AT&T and or LG.
Another thought I had is that since I now have a AT&T branded Samsung S9+, I was going to use it for personal and the V30+ for IT/Work. I guess I could just get a subscription on Sprint and just be done with it all. The company I work for is reimbursing me for the bill so perhaps I should just forget it and just go that route. It would be much cheaper route to go for sure. As I think more about the possible mismatch of the update between carriers the more it kinda makes sense as AT&T has always been very slow to adopting to newer ROM upgrades. I used to get irritated over the fact that everybody else got updates way before I ever did and the bottleneck was on the side of AT&T. I'll just consider it to be a $800 work phone. Yeah..... Trying to find my Zen.

The carrier unlock is done on the Sprint network side according to their support people. I guess that's why they were having me put my old Sprint SIM card and resetting the APN settings.

I have put in a few calls to Our friends at Sprint International to see if they can resend the Unlock from their side.

i used LG SIMunlock..
others on XDA had good results it did not work for me.
I ended up reactivating my old Sprint account so I won't have an expensive paper weight. The lgsimunlock did not change anything on the device as the APN was still grayed out upon installation of the AT&T SIM. Sprint keeps telling me that my phone is unlocked. Sprint speculates the issue to with the service policy on AT&T network not being Oreo ready and while it sounds plausible I have no evidence either way. Right now I'm going to try to satisfy the 50 day service requirement again and see if anything magically changes. I still have to go to the AT&T store to see if there is anything more they can do as I had to buy a new phone to get passed this issue and not be offline since I'm on call 24/7. My new Samsung S9+ is AT&T to ensure that I won't have this issue moving forward. If AT&T would stop snubbing us IT guys with weak devices then I wouldn't have gone to Sprint for the 128G internal storage that the V30+ offered. A few days ago I read about someone buying the unlocked V30+ direct from LG and yet they are having trouble getting it to work on Sprint's network which makes me a tad concerned when it comes to device/carrier compatibility.

I have a V30S. As of now, I have never received an update for it. I am running it with stock software version us99820a and security - March 1, 2018.
This seems odd, and every time I check for updates, I get told I am up to date.
Is this right, or is there a problem with my phone not getting updates?

You can manually update. We have all the KDZ posted here. Takes 5 minutes.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/us998-lg-v30-us998-us99820a040330-kdz-t3786337
There are reasons why you may not be receiving OTA, none of which you can fix -- except by manually updating yourself.
I do that with my wife's US998, which is still pure stock.

I'm confused as to which file to download. I assume the first file, US99820g_01_0110.kdz?
I am confused as I'm not sure if the letter at the end is something I need to have maintained. I have US99820a.
Will I ever be able to get software updates OTA, or is this just something I have to deal with?
Also, this won't wipe the phone, will it?

If you make sure you choose "Upgrade", using the LGUP attached to that post, no it won't wipe it.
Yes, US998 20G KDZ is newest. Newest at top down to oldest. If you scroll down that page, it's starts with 20A (earliest US998 Oreo)
Where did you get your phone? If you say used, off eBay or even "new" off eBay, there's nothing "wrong" with your phone except you're not going to get OTA updates.
I can tell you more and give you probable reason -- but it doesn't explain why my wife's phone doesn't receive OTA updates. Doesn't matter, manually updating takes 5 minutes.
Going from 20A to 20G is a big jump. A lot of audio changes in 20F and 20G. Some people have to go to 20E first, then 20F, then 20G.
Remember the "Upgrade" part! In this case, you do NOT want "Refurbish" which is the LGUP default choice. I did that accidentally with my wife's phone one time, trying to multitask and didn't pay attention.
You can try just going straight to 20G, if you feel lucky. If you have no audio, don't panic. Flash back to 20E, then go to 20F, then 20G.
After this, you won't have to worry about that, as you will always just have to flash the next one that comes out. You won't ever be this far behind again.

I ordered it from B&H Photo, brand new. That's is why I am confused, (and concerned) as to why I wouldn't get OTA updates. I got off the phone with support about it and they said to use the LG Bridge app. That was useless (as I expected).
Seems like going from A to E, then F, and finally G would be safest.

Three of my US998 V30/V30+ are also from B&H Photo. While mine is bootloader unlocked and rooted, my wife's daily phone is pure stock. We received one Nougat update January 2018. Ever since then, I've manually updated hers.
I do just what I told you to... install the LGUP, download the KDZ, connect the phone, select the KDZ, choose "Upgrade" and start. Once you hit start, takes about 5 minutes.
After that, check back here every couple of months to do it again.

So it would seem that there is some weird glitch with this phone then. Really weird, and annoying. Support said it was the carrier that decides when to update, I know that's not true for unlocked phones.
I guess it's manual updating. Not a good way to start with an unlocked phone.

Right, with carrier unlocked it's the OEM -- in this case, LG. We run ours on AT&T, but AT&T has nothing to do with updating our phones.

It's purely for convince to get OTA, but doing it manually is more secure in that there is less likely going to be an issue.
Thank you very much for the quick response, and linking to the files. Got it updated to E, and now I'm downloading F and G.

I use Google's Phone app/dialer on AT&T and don't have access to the native AOSP VVM app.
Hell, AT&T's own VVM app "isn't compatible" which this phone, according to the Google Play Store. And I bought the phone from AT&T. This isn't an unbranded or open-market model.
For now, I just installed the most recent AT&T VVM app from APKMirror, and that seems to be working fine. I'd love to be able to replace it with the stock Android VVM just to compare features and out of curiosity, if nothing else.
But alas, it seems as if its been AT&T's policy to force users to use their own VVM app a stock default (even if they don't actually start supporting their newest devices until weeks or months after release)!
I would guess there's a similar policy in place with T-Mo.

I don't understand your question. I'm talking about my AT&T-bought LG V60.
It doesn't support AT&T's own VVM app (according to the Google Play Store, "device incompatible").
And it's AT&T's general policy to not allow the stock ASOP VVM on most Android devices (iPhones are completely exempt).
At least it was. If something's changed in the past year or two, I certainly don't see it reflected on my phone.
I had to go to APKMirror to get AT&T's VVM app on this phone, which is ridiculous, but not unusual.
I had to do the same for my old LG V30 until AT&T finally released a new version of their VVM app on the Google Play Store that worked on the V30.
As for the Google Phone app, I have it installed on my V60 and set up as my primary phone app/dialer, and it works fine. It just doesn't have the VVM component.

That is what I'm referring to that carriers block or LG and Samsung block. I have always been able to utilize Google phone app and get visual voicemail on Pixels and OnePlus even on carrier versions without issues.
I'm sick if seeing that error message from T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app. On my carrier Pixel or OnePlus using Google phone app it doesn't have issues at all. I have jump on demand and have since it came out. I have had over 30+ Android models with various Android versions and various T-Mobile Visual Voicemail apps and have seen this message on every device. I'm extremely annoyed, we should not be forced to utilize a third party app when stock Android has this feature.

It's the U.S. carriers, not the OEMs. And it's been known about for years.
Hell, I could never get my open-market LG V30 to utilized AT&T's VoLTE hi-fi calling. My phone supported all the right bands.
Then, why? Because I didn't buy my phone from AT&T. My phone's open-market IMEI was on a blacklist.
Or perhaps, since I didn't buy my V30 from AT&T, it's simply that my phone's IMEI wasn't on a sanctioned white-list.
I know for sure that a few years ago, a Pixel with an AT&T SIM couldn't access Android's stock VVM app.
Slip in a Verizon SIM, and you could. It was, and remains, ridiculous.
Now, it could be that AT&T and Google (and, I suppose, OnePlus) struck deals in the last year or two.
But that's only for their phones. Phones made by other OEMs are typically SOL.
I mean, you can Google the issue for most big (and minor) devices out there and find pages of AT&T forum results complaining about the situation.
It's sadly well documented.
With the work around I have always been able to get this working on a lot of devices. The work around is to install the T-Mobile app, allow to fully setup, uninstall, reboot and wait a few minutes it's there. The LG and Samsungs don't work even with the work around. I am hoping if I get enough signatures the carriers will be forced to change.
