A serious problem with device turning off - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I have a problem here that has been bugging me for months
my phone (p8lite ALE21) fell in water for a couple of seconds but after the incident everything appeared to work except when my phone is Idle or I lock the screen and not using it after about 10 secs the phone shuts down for no reason and I have to keep on pressing on the power button for a few seconds to restart, but If I lock it while charging or playing music (anything that doesn't let the phone become idle) it doesn't turn off and works fine.
Confused if it's hardware or software issue but I searched a lot about it tried million different things nothing worked
One thing to notice that my SD card slot doesn't read anymore SD cards ( the cards work fine with other phones )
don't know if it's part of the problem or I have to change my battery?
any suggestions please I would like to hear it
P.S. I don't want to change the battery nor the SD card slot unless I'm sure it's the problem
Thanks

From the info you provided, I believe it is a hardware issue, a faulty circuit, since the phone is unable to remain on until some interrupt is provided, I recommend that you show it to some Phone repair center.

[Q] Xperia X10 won't turn on.

Hi. The phone application was not functioning well and the F/C dialog showed up. I powered off the phone and from that point, the phone won't turn on.
The battery was fully charged before this happened.
When I press the power button, the phone vibrates for half a second, the screen brightens up but does not show anything but a black screen.
I removed SIM and SD cards, removed the battery and performed the above steps but nothing happened.
I also tried to put on the charger to see what's going on. Once I plug the charger, the phone's screen brightens but shows only blank (even without pressing the power button)
When connected to the charger, the green light for charging is on for some minutes, then goes off automatically.
I tried to connect it to the PC, and PC Companion finds the device as usually. It even shows the dialog on the pc screen to mount the device.
I tried a hard reset, but does not work
On some point, the sony logo appeared and then a dialog saying: "sorry process system is not responding". The first time I pressed Force Close and the phone turned off. Immediately after that, the phone turned on and showed the exact message. I pressed "Wait" but nothing happened in the next 15 minutes.
I called Sony's support center and they suggested a software update. Did the process exactly as it should, but again, even after the software update the screen shows nothing but black. It is all the time brightened for some reason.
I tried to turn off the phone for some time by removing the battery, but as soon as I put the battery back on, the phone's screen brightens and stays that way forever.
The phone was functioning perfectly up until this issue. The only application I had installed apart from some games, was AWDLauncher. On the screen I had only a TASK widget and a battery status widget.
The phone is 3 months old and has been always in perfect condition.
ANY help would be appreciated!!!!
Many Thanks
Try to format phone with this method hope it should work as it seems the issue is with OS only ..

I tried the steps found in the link you gave me, but I couldn't go any further after step no (5) from the tutorial, as it would require to enable Debugging mode and I cannot access the OS (since the device won't turn on).
Is there a way to format all the contents of the device and have them replaced by running SEUS (as it always says that my device is up to date now)?
Was it this:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup.../detailed/updateservice/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
That Sony Ericsson told you to do?
If not, use that.
Download it, follow the steps when it says you have the latest version, press "Install Anyway".
Hope this works.
Hi itTim. thanks for the response
this is what i did but no improvement at all ((
Sounds like you broke your LCD screen somehow.
That would suck because I broke mine and it cost me $200 to fix.
Hi Hypercore.
Yes that could be the problem. The thing is that I always took rally good care of the phone, always carried in a leather pouch and never droped it. How sensitive is this lcd anyway?? Did you notice any cracks on your lcd or was the problem simillar to mine?
Thanks
When you turn on the phone does the lcd backlight turn on?
If so, look for any faint lines of color (usually a hairline size). If you see any of those then your screen is cracked.
the backlight is on, but there are no lines of colour on the lcd screen.
another weird thing is that the green light on the top blinks one or two times every time i put on the battery. even if the phone is off, once I insert the battery turns on automatically after a couple of seconds.
If all else fails you could try to flash back to your original fw with the tools here:

That won't do anything.
I had almost the same issue. Nothing worked. But, when I removed the battery and left it for a day (24h) without it, it just started working again. Still working without issues..
Good luck!

Phones are very wierd pieces of technology. I once bricked my k610i and that's a phone that's supposed to be impossible to un-brick, but out of nowhere a month or so later i picked it up, hit power and it turned on perfectly. Made no sense at all, but it worked.
Taking the battery out for a long time probably took all the electrical charges from it (kind of like how a computer power supply / monitor can hold power charges) and reset your handset.

Indeed. It could be a frozen chip, memory fault, power-regulator and so on.

if you have done this and did not worked , then it is the LCD.
send it to workshop and check it there.
Guys i Really need the solve of this problem , my xperia has blank screen now without backlight and the phone completely doesn't work . when i put the battery and prees the switch botton it gives me 3 red signals , i've updated and hard reset but it didn't work , and btw the LCD is fine , any idea. did removing the battery worked???? . please answer
After a looooot of time since my latest post, finally my Xperia came back to life. There was a battery failure which means the phone was ok all the time. Weird thing is that the led light showed that the battery was charging ok. I removed the battery and after a lot of time it is working ok again. This was really really odd.
FYI for anyone else that gets this issue.
I just had this for the past hour after trying to change my baseband....could not get it back for anything.
What I did finally try was run another baseband via flash tool, connected to usb and it started flashing....after flash phone powered on again...yeah I agree with everyone, that is freaking scary when it happens.

HD2 suddenly not working - ROM flash keeps crashing

Until about 3 hours ago, my phone was working perfectly in both Windows Mobile and Android.
Now, the phone has become almost completely unresponsive - it loads very slowly and pressing the buttons or the screen usually does nothing.
I've tried hard resetting, taking out my memory and sim card, and then I used mtty and then tried reflashing my ROM.
Whenever I try reflashing the ROM, it keeps failing at 99% or 100%.
Is there anything else that might fix it?

Did you try flashing a stock ROM. I experienced such thing while back and stock ROM fixed it back than.
have you tried flash rom by using Flashaholic ?? Maybe when task29 format your rom memory will solve your problem
I used task 29 in mtty when I reflashed the ROM.
I've now tried task 29 and then flashed the stock ROM from the SD card. Still not working - the screen is 100% unresponsive. It doesn't seem to even register my touch.
I think the buttons are working but I can't be sure - after a while even the buttons stop doing anything.
Thanks for the tips - unless anyone has any bright ideas, I guess its going to have to go back.
take out the battery and wait 30min than put the battery back in and turn on the power wait 10 to 15min

lol yep - I suspected it might be a faulty memory card so I tried taking that out. Then I tried taking the SIM card out. Same issue.
Sounds like the internals are toast. Send it back to the place where you got it from and say that it is unusable.
i think your display is brocken or a cable i had the same proplem with my htc touch pro 2 and it was a cable
flash the spl from memory card and then the shipt rom and say it is brocken by upgrading the rom mybe they do not care
i wish you lucke

MicroSD causing high temperature, high battery usage

First off, I tried searching around and couldn't find anything relating to this. I found things relating to high temperatures and abnormal battery usage but found nothing about this being cause by a memory card.
Anyways, since inserting a 4GB SanDisk memory card into my phone the battery gets drained very quickly. What makes this even stranger, when I plug the phone in to charge, the temperature gets very hot (~48C) and the battery doesn't charge. I'm assuming it doesn't charge because of the high temperature.
Since removing the memory card the battery life has returned to normal and the phone charges as it should at normal temperatures.
I'll appreciate any help or tips on how to fix this issue.

I would assume that the SD Card you have is faulty somehow. I would first try another SD Card to see if it also causes the same problem. If it does then it is likely a hardware issue and if it does not then you know it was a faulty card...
Just my opinion... Anyone else have any advice?
Use something like OS monitor to see if the media scanner process or DRM processes is going nuts.
It may be that you have some media on your SD card that the media scanner cant deal with and it causing it to get stuck, try backing up and formatting the card.
Also what rom are you on?
Well this is something, I re-inserted my memory card and now the phone doesn't boot up properly. I tried removing the memory card and it still doesn't boot up properly.
Usually the screen with the 'S' that says Samsung Galaxy S II goes away after a second or two, now it stays for about a minute and doesn't even take me to the home screen. It takes me to the screen that says "To begin touch the android" (the screen you see when you turn the phone on for the first time and asks you to setup a google account) but heres another twist, I can't interact with that screen because in the foreground there are several errors saying Sorry! --- application has stopped please try again and these errors just keep looping.
My rom is stock android 2.3.3

Your best if you don't want to have to format your phone is to use odin to flash your stock rom again (make sure its a non wipe package)
That should leave your user apps/data but you might lose stuff like sms's.

Is your phone brand new? Did you just get it?
I had a Motorola Xoom Tablet that was like that right out of the box and I had to Factory Reset / Wipe the device to fix it.
Follow the advice of the previous poster and try to flash your stock ROM again with Odin and see if that fixed the issue and if not then you will likely have to Factory Reset your device.
If THAT fails then it is off for a warranty repair or to a service center Id assume...

After clicking force close about a hundred times (literally) I managed to get back to the home screen but I've noticed some stuff has changed, See where it says Phone Contacts Messaging Applications in the middle image for me it just says Applications.
Any idea as to whats going on here?
EDIT: I just noticed if I try to open an app, the app crashes instantly.

I've had this phone since July (when it became available in Canada). It worked flawlessly until I decided to put in a memory card a few days ago.
EDIT: And I just tested the memory card in my old phone and it works just fine there.

[Q] Galaxy s2 turns off when not charging.

Hi
I'm having a samsung galaxy s2 gt-i9100 and it's out of warranty. My problem is that it shuts down whenever it is not charging. It is perfectly ok when it is charging but shuts down when it is removed. When it is unplugged it will stay on longer if I turn the power saving mode on but when I turn the data connection on or when I try to call someone, it shows there is no network. The phone turns off if I put in a sim card and an SD card simultaneously, so I'm not using the SD card slot now.
Not a software problem because everything is alright when it's plugged in. I tried changing the kernel, rom but to no use.
Can anyone help me fix my phone. Any help is really appreciated.. Thanks in advance.. :good:
Probably a short somewhere & probably caused by moisture. That's the nature of it, damage occurs very slowly/over a long period of time & there isn't a lot you can do about it.
Start with the obvious/cheap stuff first; clean battery contacts with isopropyl alcohol, then replace battery, then replace USB board - KeithRoss39 has a guide to enable you to do this yourself easily/quickly/cheaply (~US$10).
That's about all you can do easily yourself, from there you'd be looking at replacing the motherboard, but unless you already have the experience with electronics like this, you're going to be paying someone else to do that.
Even though it's more than likely not a software issue, do a completely clean install of stock anyway, because it costs you nothing.

Random reboots/shutdowns

Hello,
1 week ago i had bought a mi a3 and noticed some serious problems.
1. problem nÂș1, 3-4 times a day the phone reboots (without touching it) and asks for sim code
2. sometimes when I try to click the power button the phone won't turn on, i have to wait like 3-10 minutes or click the power button for 10 sec to force a reboot. It doesn't seem to turn off but is in a deep sleep
I've already did a hard reset but nothing changed.
Supposedly this problem was solved with some update but it continues to happen.
Does someone knows how solve it?
Greetings. Have you checked that it is not the damaged sim or the micro sd?
I had reboots cause wasted micro sd.
Greetings.

it's not the SIM, and I have no sd card in my phone
Tried flashing another rom the random reboots disappeared but 2. problem (sometimes when I try to click the power button the phone won't turn on, i have to wait like 3-10 minutes or click the power button for 10 sec to force a reboot. It doesn't seem to turn off but is in a deep sleep) continues to happen, but now I only have to wait 5-10 seconds, now its usable, however it is inconvenient sometimes.
Does someone knows how solve it?
If phone randomly reboots without anything u need to fix your battery IC.. goto repair shop and tell to reball the IC they will understand.. hopefully gets fixed
