Attempt to find a way to carrier unlock the LG Tribute HD (LG LS676) without having root access.
One consideration, GCPro Key might operate by generating a 'pseudo key' which tricks the phone into believing the system has been unlocked by the carrier. This is deployed to the phone via adb. If this is the case, it would not require root.
Second consideration, begging and pleading with Sprint to perform OTA unlocks. This doesn't seem likely.
So, just as an update, I was able to get the phone to recognize a FreedomPop global sim, but without being able to edit the APN settings, it is unusable.
Have you tried to change the APN by dialing ##3282# to get the Data settings menu? It requires entering the MSL to edit.
I looked at the APN settings, but even with the MSL given to me by Ting it didn't seem to want to let me edit any.
I just unlocked my friend's with gsmzambia. Everything working perfectly.
this gsmzambia is bot

It was activated on Ting, and they were able to perform an International SIM unlock.
Since APN's cannot be edited, it isn't worth very much, though
Ok

Why can't anyone edit apn settings? I have a **** boost mobile LG tribute had (LS 676), and boost provided me my msl code, so I CAN edit apn settings. What kind of screenshots can I post to help? If love to have root on this device.... Not a bad daily driver, but root for make it that much better. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide... And come on, gotta give it up to the devs, who have lost so much sleep...and probably a little hair, working on this!?

I did - I can see the menus and settings and set LTE etc - but APNs are read-only. You can open to see but can't create any.

Can you post a screenshot of the APN settings Add/Edit view as a starter? I have MSL code too but unable to add/edit APN.
It took me a bit of time to figure out what is being suggested above related to following the G5 procedure to unlock the Tribute HD, so I am posting here to make it easier for everyone else trying to unlock this device.
For starters, you don't need the Service Programming Code (SPC), you don't need it rooted, nor do you need to have it internationally unlocked by a Sprint MVNO -- I unlocked two, and the second was pretty much straight out of the box (the first was internationally unlocked first).
Follow the instructions here for the G5 -- Same Hidden Menu app APK and same first 8 steps up to the point where you reboot and are about to add the new APN:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g5/how-to/guide-gsm-unlock-sprint-lg-g5-t3574819
Then, to add the new APN, which is where I struggled to find the solution and the "trick" to creating the new APN was recently posted towards the end of the G5 thread. To create the APN, use the Hidden Menu app and do the following:
1) Select IOT (GDG2),
2) Select LTE Setting
3) Select APN Setting
4) Now press and hold the multi-function key (the little square task-switcher on the lower right of the screen) and select NEW APN
5) Fill in at least the following 3 fields:
NAME -- Call it anything you want
APN -- Enter the APN for your carrier
APN Type -- Enter "default, dun" (without the quotes).
Note: If you have other APN entries that you know, please add them too -- the above 3 items will get at least the web working (and perhaps hotspot), but you may need additional carrier-specific settings for SMS/MMS/etc..
When you are finished entering the APN entries, press and hold the multifunction (little square) key again and select SAVE.
Make sure your new APN has the radio button selected on the right side of the screen, and then back your way out to the main menu and close the Hidden Menu app. Close the Hidden Menu app with the task switcher.
Your device should now show either 3G or LTE for your GSM-based carrier. The web should work, as should calling (admittedly I used FreedomPop SIMs for my testing so I was only able to test 3G with the Global SIM and LTE with the AT&T LTE SIM, but I didn't test calling/texting/MMS with a US-based SIM myself). If something isn't working, I'll borrow a T-Mo postpaid SIM from another phone and try to provide further assistance.
Kudos and thanks to all of those who figured out the G5 -- I am merely outlining the steps they developed here for the Tribute HD.
So I've been searching around and haven't been able to find an answer yet, that actually works. I'm using my G3 on Sprint for a bit while my G6 gets fixed, and it's on rooted ZVC. I apparently live in a Sprint dead zone, so WiFi calling is a must, but MMS doesn't work over WiFi with the default APN setting for MMSC. If I use an app like Textra, I can force the correct URL, but I have been unable to change/add the correct APN to the system in order to use Android Messaging, for example. I can get to the APN settings screen, but no options to add or edit. ##DATA# lets me change the setting for the stock messaging app only. Any suggestions?

This is a short guide for accessing the APN settings to edit, as well as enabling Native Hotspot while you're in there.
This method involves using Shortcut Master Lite to access the APN settings so that it can be edited to add needed settings without using ADB. The steps are as follows:
Step 1 - Download Shortcut Master Lite from the Play Store.
Step 2 - Open Shortcut Master Lite and select the Menu (three vertical dots in the upper right).
Step 3 - Select App Explorer, and then All Apps
Step 4 – Navigate (scroll down) to com.test.LTEfunctionality and select.
Step 5 – Select the first item labled "LTEFunctionalityTest" and select launch.
Step 6 – Scroll down to LTE APN Setting and select.
Step 7 – Select the APN setting to edit or select add to add your own.
Step 8 – After editing or adding APN settings, select menu and save your settings.
Congratulations, you have successfully edited and saved your APN settings.
Enable Native HotspotStep 10 –Select APN2 LTE internet (Sprint) or your carrier internet APN.
Step 11 - Scroll down to APN type and select.
Step 12 - Add "DUN" to the setting (it should read "default, mms,DUN") without quotations.
Step 13 - Select Menu and save your settings
Congratulations, your device now has Native Hotspot without having to toggle data!
*I have tested this on Unlocked and Carrier version on Sprint as well as my wife's Sprint S8+. Survives reboot and updates (latest one anyways).
Update : must reapply if you update prl or profile!
Disable automatic updates so that profile updates does not remove!
Please let me know if you have to add anything specifically for other carriers and I will update this post.*
And as always, I cannot be held liable for the damage or malfunction of your device using these files,
you proceed at your own risk and remove my liability by continuing to the downloads portion of this post!

It is greyed out for many...editing the actual settings, for hotspot, prevent having to toggle data on and off...for one example....no need for adb as well....
Does anyone know if this also works for Bluetooth tether?
Similar question since you figured this out. Is there a way to modify the APN2 in a roundabout way like this that bypasses the proxy servers for carriers like sprint since modifying the APN2 directly is out of the question since much is grayed out.

I'm sorry I mean when I go to the ##3282## menu to get rid of the proxy is not under the APN's. It is under "Data Profile" which when you click on it is all greyed out and can't be modified. That is what I need to be able to edit to bypass proxys and prevent sprint from throttling.
Wondering if there is a shortcut to get to that as well to be able the modfiy those settings.
Edit: sorry that is not where I need to edit. I need to find a Multimedia menu option in the DATA menu which for the Note 8 there isn't one listed. I then need to modify RTST Proxy, HTTPPD Proxy to all 0.0.0.0's
Anyone know where that option or a shortcut to that option is?

Sorry, I don't have access to a Verizon phone...you might find a test feature in the settings...
did you try the adb method? That method works but you have to disable the Verizon hotspot app and toggle the data on a and off when using the hotspot...
Alternatively you can try ##3282# and select edit and then enter your MSL # (can get it from your carrier)...

##3282# does nothing on my verizon phone, it doesn't open a hidden menu. I will play with some of the other menus see if I can't get in.
I have tried using the Disabler method to disable the apps, that doesn't seem to work. I followed the instructions for ADB but when I turn of mobile data it just complains it doesn't turn on the Hotspot.
I have tried the "Bad wi-fi" password method which also doesn't work because when I enable my hotspot it immediately disables my Wi-Fi before I can disable it manually.
I have tried leaving mobile data on, turning on the hotspot and before I can turn mobile data off, the app is already complaining about my lack of a subscription.
It seems to me like Verizon is serious LOL!
Thank you OP.
Works for me.

No VPN...carriers can't tell the different between shared data and host data...it is just data...
If unlocked is flashed with carrier Firmware it is as if it were carrier phone...even OTA updates come from Sprint...
Dude! Amazing! Thank you soooo much!
Bad news, the LTE functionality test hack used to edit apns on S9 and older phones doesn't work anymore. But good news is, if you know your MSL (all 0's for unlocked), you can create new APNs. Just dial ##3282#, put in your MSL, click APN Settings, and create a new APN with the same settings as APN2 LTE ... internet, but add dun at end of APN type.
You cannot modify the APN once you save it, but if you make a mistake, go to general management, reset, reset network settings to remove the APN you added and fix any problems.
Enjoy
EDIT: Updating profile deletes the APN so you should get used to creating new APNs frequently.

I do not believe so but I have not been able to verify yet. I can verify that it does switch APN because mobile data cuts off for a min when you switch to the one you made, and a similar procedure on the S9 did not count on my tethering data. I get 50gb and it didn't count at all, just my normal data. I will test with this new one though.

How did you edit this my phone will not allow me to edit this its grayed out. I try to add a d it dose nothing
works. :good:
how to get "enhanced LTE" working? so LTE stay connected while on voice call?
It seems that after the new update, I can not change it to my new added apn. Anyone could help?
I just called Sprint and they have me all 0's as my MSL. So means I'm unlocked and I didn't even know. Unless they lied. I'm about to find out when I try this hack.
Update: boo add option is grayed out. I didn't take this newest update and I thought that was the update that prevented adding APN.

It will reset to your current update. You could flash older though, as long as the bootloader's haven't changed, which I believe hasn't but could be wrong.

Thanks. I'm going to look for the version I had when I bought my phone 3/12/19.
I think that Hotpot is included with my Sprint plan. Yip I think it's 50gb hotspot.
Disregard.
Following along... MSL 0's, cant "add" anything... I rarely use the hotspot, but at times I *need* it.
Any idea if anyone has broken this yet? I’m in the same boat where even with my MSL the edit functions are greed out.
is this still working?

I don't think there is a guide as it's likely changing the APN still works. However, be careful with tethering or hotspot use as the carriers do monitor their traffic and can tell if you are doing either.
Look into PdaNet+
3rd party app, but works great. Has a feature called Hide Tether Usage too, not sure how reliable that is though.
If your are rooted look for vpn hotspot that's the best way to tether without restrictions, if you're not rooted you can use pdanet as someone has mention previously
I have been tethering on A12 for a long time using a personal method of mine since A10 on the carrier ATT.
Background: By default i have an unlimited texting calling and unlimited data plan with ATT but no hotspot allowed at all within the plan. I wanted to hotspot for video game reasons. Now for my method
My method uses a combination of methods I have found through various threads. It also has a few pre requisites like being able to unlock your BL, root and being able to change your APN/add a new APN.
First you have to be rooted and use the module magiskhidepropsconfig and add a prop. You can Google search the module to find it on GitHub. The prop you need to add is "net.tethering.noprovisioning" using a terminal and set that prop to true. This prop adds the ability for you to tether without the device reporting it as tethering directly.
Next you need to screenshot your entire DEFAULT APN as you need to copy the original one and add that same EXACT SAME APN but with ONE minor change. The change being under "APN TYPE" you need to add "DUN", no spaces in all caps at the end. If you try adding 'dun' in lowercase, this WILL NOT WORK and will NOT let you add it.
This is because "dun" is the code for tethering under the 'APN type' and that will allow your device to tether making your device think you have your "carrier's permission" to tether. This also will allow you tether for long periods of time without it shutting off automatically.
After that you're done and should be able to tether, I'll attach to screenshots, one as proof and one of the 'APN type' change. This method also survives OTA's.

A couple of questions:
-- Is this method the same regardless of carrier? (I have Verizon)
-- I usually do a full flash of the monthly updates without wiping, will it survive that method rather than OTA?
Changing APN setting works adding dun. Sprint/tmobile added an APN called pam, it was doing the monitoring so I had to delete it completely and push a new APN and preferred APN using adb root and some commands.
