Question How to enable tethering and hotspot on Pixel 6 - Google Pixel 6

Is there a way to get unlimited hotspot on the Tmobile Pixel 6? I know the old method was to add dun to the apn settingsof older phones but not sure what works now with Android 12 and the Pixel 6. Could anyone post or link to a guide or steer me in the right direction?

I don't think there is a guide as it's likely changing the APN still works. However, be careful with tethering or hotspot use as the carriers do monitor their traffic and can tell if you are doing either.

Look into PdaNet+
3rd party app, but works great. Has a feature called Hide Tether Usage too, not sure how reliable that is though.

If your are rooted look for vpn hotspot that's the best way to tether without restrictions, if you're not rooted you can use pdanet as someone has mention previously

I have been tethering on A12 for a long time using a personal method of mine since A10 on the carrier ATT.
Background: By default i have an unlimited texting calling and unlimited data plan with ATT but no hotspot allowed at all within the plan. I wanted to hotspot for video game reasons. Now for my method
My method uses a combination of methods I have found through various threads. It also has a few pre requisites like being able to unlock your BL, root and being able to change your APN/add a new APN.
First you have to be rooted and use the module magiskhidepropsconfig and add a prop. You can Google search the module to find it on GitHub. The prop you need to add is "net.tethering.noprovisioning" using a terminal and set that prop to true. This prop adds the ability for you to tether without the device reporting it as tethering directly.
Next you need to screenshot your entire DEFAULT APN as you need to copy the original one and add that same EXACT SAME APN but with ONE minor change. The change being under "APN TYPE" you need to add "DUN", no spaces in all caps at the end. If you try adding 'dun' in lowercase, this WILL NOT WORK and will NOT let you add it.
This is because "dun" is the code for tethering under the 'APN type' and that will allow your device to tether making your device think you have your "carrier's permission" to tether. This also will allow you tether for long periods of time without it shutting off automatically.
After that you're done and should be able to tether, I'll attach to screenshots, one as proof and one of the 'APN type' change. This method also survives OTA's.

A couple of questions:
-- Is this method the same regardless of carrier? (I have Verizon)
-- I usually do a full flash of the monthly updates without wiping, will it survive that method rather than OTA?

Changing APN setting works adding dun. Sprint/tmobile added an APN called pam, it was doing the monitoring so I had to delete it completely and push a new APN and preferred APN using adb root and some commands.

You'll need APN Backup & Restore (free from Market) to get your MMS working right. There's tutorials all over about what things need to be put in, but I just modify the 'Production' area in the xml file. Some people create/rename a whole area called 'metropcs'.
I've done this with Cricket. Good luck with Metro.
I have don it but not success

I have the HTC Droid Eris all flashed from Verison to MetroPCS on Android 2.1 rooted, I have Web(on the default UI Sense internet browser. All I want is to be able to use Android Market and other Apps like Trapster (to detect speed traps) without using WI-FI. I want to be able to use these internet dependent applications on Metro's mobile data network. So far have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know the secret Metro PCS settings that will make this happen ? Any ideas?

Is There a Way to Backup Your Metro Flash Settings?
I had my Eris flashed to Metro, but it wasn't syncing my contacts with Gmail correctly. People on these forums were saying that a hard reset would fix it. Tried that and of course all of my Metro Flash settings were wiped and my phone was reverted back to the original Verizon network. Is there a way to backup the Metro Flash settings or create some type of restore image, so I don't have to take it back to get reprogrammed every time I do a hard reset?
How do I know if I have all the APN setting correct?

what about internet and mms?
Thanks about this guide now I have internet and mms working fully. I would kiss you in rl for this guid seriously I spent like week searching and finally found.
Just a tip you can't have mms working without having internet working. You get internet working then edit mms setting with apn backup and restore.

Download APN Backup & Restore from the market.
Back Up your APN's.
Upload them here, so that other MetroPCS users can have MMS working properly.
You would be a hero.
Also, if you want to actually help people, you can do a nand backup, then turn your phone on and delete all of your contacts and information the best that you can, then do a nand backup again, and upload the second nand backup.
APN Backup & Restore is how you edit APN's. They're not REALLY APN's, they're just for MMS, on this phone.
##778 pw 000000 is how you edit most connection settings
iptables in the system is how you put EVERYthing through the proxy (need root)
and APN Backup (then edit it on a computer in a text editor) is how you can edit the APN's.
Make sure you DELETE before you RESTORE or it will just add on to the APNS already there.
here is the eris flash for metro/cricket enjoy...
www-megaupload-com/?d=PV7PQ9UI
change the dashes to dots..
Yes, get your custom ROM in there, and then flash the .zip (within this .zip) that is appropriate for MetroPCS.
It's all there, and it should work perfectly.

NC5 Hotspot Mod not working.

Is anyone having any issues getting the NC5 Hotspot Mod to work? Every time I try to use it the device that I'm hooking it up to always says obtaining ip address and it never connects. I was just wondering if this was something blocked by Sprint. I'm on the old One Up unlimited everything plan. I never have this problem on AOSP!<br/>

Which NC5 hotspot mod did you try installing? As far as I'm aware, there's no "mod" which work for stock NC5. You can try a custom NC5-based ROM which includes wifi tethering. These have worked for me with no issues.
If you're running the stock NC5, one thing you can try is getting your MSL and adding "dun" to your apns. The process is outlined in this thread.

You need to read the forum, all the questions are already answered you just need to search and look not just ask.
Step by Step:
Get your MSL/SPC number using the app from this link: http://tools.flashingtools.com/SPCUtility.apk
Dial ##data#
Select Edit
Put your MSL # and click OK
Scroll to bottom and select More
Scroll to bottom and select LTE APN Settings
Got to APN2 LTE internet
Go to APN type
Add ,dun at the end
Now it should be default,mms,dun
Got to APN2 EHRPD internet
Go to APN type
Add ,dun at the end
Now it should be default,mms,dun
Go to Settings
Change Hotspot to ON
Done. It should work now.

Lost native hotspot after Oreo Update - Sprint S8+

I'm bummed. I've had this Samsung S8+ since late last year. I didn't really want to root it but I wanted the native hotspot to work. I found out (on these forums) that it was as simple as editing the existing APN settings by adding "dun" to the APN type. I was able to do that previously and it worked beautifully. HOWEVER, I just got the #$&(^@ OREO update push from Sprint. Now my APN type settings reverted back to "default, mms". The APN type is NOT editable now. Therefore I am unable to add "dun" to the APN type settings. Now my native hotspot no longer works obviously. I have read in a couple of other places that the OREO update cannot be rolled back to a previous firmware version without putting the phone in a bootloop. I don't know that a rollback would even fix this problem. I was never really interested in rooting and installing a custom ROM. I simply wanted my native hotspot to work so I could use my laptop with an internet connection.
So am I screwed? Is there a workaround to edit these APN settings? The settings are not editable after this update. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Pwallaker!
I did manage to get the native hotspot working again on the stock non-rooted OREO ROM. I don't know if this is just a fluke or what but here is what I did to edit the appropriate APN fields to re-enable the native hotspot (without subscription) on my Samsung S8+.
I entered my phone dialer and dialed ##3282# to view/edit data. I selected "edit" and put in the generic "000000" MSL code. Simply doing this did NOT enable me to edit the APNs. It only enabled a very limited edit that still would not let me edit the APN type fields. However, I immediately exited the data edit mode and then opened Shortcut Master Lite. I performed a search for LTEFunctionality using SML (SML could no longer get me in edit mode initially after the OREO update). I then launched "com.test.LTEFunctionality" (com.test.LTEFunctionality.LTEFunctionalityTest). I then scrolled down and selected "LTE APN Setting". This brings up two APNs named "APN2 EHRPD Internet" and "APN2 LTE Internet". Select the first APN and simply edit the field called "APN type". It will be already be populated with "default, mms". Simply select that field to edit and place ",dun" at the end of that string. Back out and repeat the same for the second APN. Exit SML when done. This is what worked for me with this new OREO release on SPRINT for the SM-G955U. I don't know if it makes a difference but I have the developer options enabled on my stock S8+. Good luck. YMMV!

Sprint Hotspot Hack

Bad news, the LTE functionality test hack used to edit apns on S9 and older phones doesn't work anymore. But good news is, if you know your MSL (all 0's for unlocked), you can create new APNs. Just dial ##3282#, put in your MSL, click APN Settings, and create a new APN with the same settings as APN2 LTE ... internet, but add dun at end of APN type.
You cannot modify the APN once you save it, but if you make a mistake, go to general management, reset, reset network settings to remove the APN you added and fix any problems.
Enjoy
EDIT: Updating profile deletes the APN so you should get used to creating new APNs frequently.

I do not believe so but I have not been able to verify yet. I can verify that it does switch APN because mobile data cuts off for a min when you switch to the one you made, and a similar procedure on the S9 did not count on my tethering data. I get 50gb and it didn't count at all, just my normal data. I will test with this new one though.

Thanks this worked for me hopefully it sticks without profile getting updated.
How did you edit this my phone will not allow me to edit this its grayed out. I try to add a d it dose nothing
works. :good:
how to get "enhanced LTE" working? so LTE stay connected while on voice call?
It seems that after the new update, I can not change it to my new added apn. Anyone could help?
I just called Sprint and they have me all 0's as my MSL. So means I'm unlocked and I didn't even know. Unless they lied. I'm about to find out when I try this hack.
Update: boo add option is grayed out. I didn't take this newest update and I thought that was the update that prevented adding APN.

It will reset to your current update. You could flash older though, as long as the bootloader's haven't changed, which I believe hasn't but could be wrong.

Thanks. I'm going to look for the version I had when I bought my phone 3/12/19.
I think that Hotpot is included with my Sprint plan. Yip I think it's 50gb hotspot.
Disregard.
Following along... MSL 0's, cant "add" anything... I rarely use the hotspot, but at times I *need* it.
Any idea if anyone has broken this yet? I’m in the same boat where even with my MSL the edit functions are greed out.
is this still working?

do i need to root for hotspot usage?

i have the lg v30 through tmobile. the phone itself does have a hotspot option, and for the most part it works for little things but other than that it is ridiculously SLOWWWW...dial up is faster, takes web pages 3 mins or more to load up and gaming, forget about it.....do i need to root to get a faster hotspot? and if so, where would i get the root info? i did look at the v 30 development section, didnt see any root options specific for hotspot usage
I have the same phone, and my hotspot is fast. I think the Hotspot speed is controlled by your T-mobile account setting, and not on the phone as I never touched any of the default settings. I did not set up a DUN APN, and use the default fast.t-mobile.com as my APN.

If you are referring to the APN, it is under Settings\Network\Mobile networks\Access Point Names. You should have a fast.t-mobile.com APN there. If not, set one up with info from this page:
