For those using their s9/s9+ on AT&T, what do you have your preferred network type set to? (if you're unsure, it's in the diagnostic menu *#*#4636#*#* under device information.
Thanks!!

I am one of the lucky ones that lives/works in an EDGE only area. Is there a way to disable 3G/4G and just use EDGE? Under Mobile Networks, I can uncheck 'use packet data', choose 'access point names' (currently set to epc.tmobile.com) or select 'network operators'.
I saw various talks of it on other devices, but wanted to know for sure what my options were on the GS3.
Thanks.
It's in the hidden menu to change your network settings.
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Select Device information
Scroll down to network preference
I believe "GSM only" will take you down to edge.

Thanks for the info! It was set to "GSM auto (PRL)". I went ahead and set it to GSM only, rebooted, and it held that setting. Guess we'll see if that helps any on the battery life too :good:
Kind of ridiculous that this option isn't easily available, as it was before
Hi.
I am using a virtual network operator which relies on 3 different networks:
1st is his own now-in-deployment network
2nd that has no 2G
3rd that has 2G and 3G.
all three networks uses the same network name.
I usually manually select the third network through Settings->Mobile Network->Network Operators.
unfortunately, after every reboot of the phone (Nexus 4), it doesn't register on the network I selected, and I have to search it again and select it (it CAN find it when I search for networks).
my ultimate goal is to use tasker to switch between networks relying on the MCC which is different between all three.
is it possible to make the phone use a specific network operator based on MCC, and initiate a network refresh so it would "catch" that network?
I'm talking about a command I could issue through terminal emulator (shell).
my needs are somewhat related to this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...n-network-provider-as-soon-as-it-is-available
which is unanswered fully.
I'm rooted and willing to make the appropriate changes to system apps and recompile my OmniROM if needed.
thanks :good:
I finally got my Padfone X unlocked, and have been trying to get it set up on a different network.
According to the spec on the AT&T website, the Padfone X should support LTE Band 4 (1700/2100) and from my research, my network is the same. However, when I take a look at mobile networks from "Settings > More... > Mobile Networks > Network Operators", my network doesn't appear in the list (though others do).
If I enter the service code "*#*#4636#*#*" to get to the service menu, I don't see any option to change the band. I do see an options to "Set preferred network type" (which I set to "LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)") but the result is the same in that my network does not appear.
Any ideas how I can check what band the Padfone X operates on (or how to change it)?
Note: I've rooted the device, so I can poke around in the terminal, I just don't know where to look :/
After looking a bit more, I found out that I can pull up the `Band Settings` page if I run the following adb command.
Code:
am start -n com.android.settings/.BandMode
Bu it just brings me to a page with no settings :/
hiya guys! my carrier's mobile data network runs more efficiently on LTE/WCDMA which is accessed in Testing Menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#*. I already tried flashing the CUSTOMIZED PHILIPPINES, USA, GENERIC LAM, and CUSTOMIZED MY but none of them offered the network type combo. Can anyone tell me which 23.5.A.0.570 firmware has such option available?
SOLUTION:
No need to re-flash any other firmware to get the LTE/WCDMA preferred network type. The option is not available in the usual menu in *#*#4636#*#*
But it can be accessed separately in the Service Menu's Service Settings. Just dial *#*#7378423#*#* to access it.
It's really nice to finally get back my good old preferred network type setting on MM. So I guess this thread is good as closed. TY
If I go in connection settings, under preferred networks I only get 4G/3G/2g options. How do I enable 5G? I am running Oxygen 11.3 in Europe
In settings go to "SIM Card and Mobile Data" / click on your network operator / here you'll see a lot of informations about your operator and somewhere in the bottom , you have Network Preferred Type , click on and then you have 5G or 4G or else preferred ...
