Anyone else having an issue with the Trusted Places portion of smart lock not working on their S9+?
It's set up with my home address, location accuracy is set to High, and any mapping app shows my proper location, but I'm still always prompted for my pattern or fingerprint when wanting to unlock the phone.

try restarting phone, reboot, then unlock with pin and that's it, it just unlocks after that

Didn't work.
There's already a discussion on this topic going on. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3761837

An anonymous user asked us to post the following:
I finally found this after digging through all of these threads after my upgrade from s7 Edge to s9+. It's called "Pin Window." Settings>Lock Screen and Security>Other Security Settings>Pin Windows. Be sure to enable "Ask for Pin before unpinning" to get the feature where you can pin one app to the screen and require authentication(pin #, fingerprint, etc.) for that app to be exited. Happy Galaxying and hope this helps everyone who's been looking for it!

i know i can quickly depress/release the pwr button to lock the screen, but is there a quick method/setting to "lock" the phone requiring a password to unlock without powering down? i'm sure there's an app out there. just wondering if i'm missing something native to the phone or to bamf.
thanks
mark
You can put your screen timeout down to 15 seconds.

would prefer not to do that. would prefer something like a short cut/keystroke.
by the way, is there a way to create a shortcut for settings>security>lock phone after>immediately?

ok anyone have any thoughts on this. it seems such a simple thing. press shortcut. phone is locked (and still powered on). enter password to unlock.

Why would you need something like that though? I don't understand the benefits of it compared to just pressing the power button. j/w
I don't have an answer to the original question, but thought I'd point out that in addition to locking the phone, you may want to lock your "SIM." Doing so prevents someone from using your SIM in another phone and running up your bill.
I believe the default SIM PIN1 is 1111 for all VZW SIMs.

I thought that each LTE sim is registered to the MEID of your Thunderbolt and is unable to be used in others. (without extensive EPST work) Hence the reason people were getting brand new TB's also had to get brand new SIM cards?

You didn't read the material Verizon provided with your phone, did you? Right there on the front of the Activation Guide: "To learn more about your 4G LTE SIM card, visit verizonwireless.com/4GSIM" Poke around, and you'll find this:
the SIM card is portable and can be used in any Verizon Wireless-certified 4G device. All usage will be billed to the account associated with the 4G SIM card.

Ahhhh, so i am actually supposed to read those pages with words on them? I thought it was just packing material.
I've honestly never read one phone manual i've ever had. Not cause I know everything about a phone before I get it, but I just rather find out everything myself. If i had to get a replacement shipped to me I'm sure I would have found that out then.
But also, I don't know if you saw some other threads or not, but i remember people saying they went in and got replacements and had to get a new SIM also. They said the VZW reps had said that the SIM is not transferrable. I don't know for sure, just saying what was said.

same reason why i would lock the display of my pc at work. i don't need to turn it off every time i walk away from it. just want to temporarily disable it from prying eyes.

If you set it to lock phone immediately, it will lock when you press the power button fast. The screen will turn off and the phone locks. When you press the power button next, the screen turns on and you need to swipe to unlock screen. You then enter password to unlock phone.
I have done it this way and it works fine. Hitting the power button once fast is the same as if you had an icon for it. The nice part is you can be on any screen.
just use the app i posted and if you need a password set it up in settings in security and viola just what your asking for software app to lock and password on unlock
also here is the patch to make the volume rocker wake the device also so then you could wake the phone with volume button and power buttton

Hello,
I run my own website over ssl. I haven't bought a trusted certificate, but have generated my own root cert. From this one I have generated various other certificates for my servers and clients.
When I install those certificates on my stock Galaxy Nexus or my CM9 Touchpad, ICS tell me that I must set a pin/pw/pattern to unlock my device. It seems there isn't anyway to store certificates without enabling one of these unlock method.
Once the certificates are installed there is no way to reenable slide to unlock without removing the certificates from the device.
I don't want that. I have generated my own certificates and I have full control on them at the server side. If my device get lost or stollen, I just need to revoke them, and I can do this easily. So this type of security is useless for me.
I would like to be able to use slide to unlock or even "no lock screen" while keeping my certificates installed on my device.
Does someone knows a way to do that. Or give me some advices about where to search ?
Thanks for reading !
I have searched everywhere and didn't found any information about this.
Does someone know where the default security policies are stored ? are they stored as plain text ? are they signed ?
Same issue here dude:
No device administrators but still can't disable pattern lock screen
[MOD] [REQUEST] Avoid slider unlock on 4.0 with credentials
I found that using tasker and secure settings, I can disable pattern unlock even if I have certificates installed. The only problem is that the mod can't be permanent. After a few hours with pattern disabled. Android will ask you an unknown password to access your certificates. Reenabling pattern unlock via secure settings solves the problem for a few more hours ...

Well, I suppose it has some sense. Having a custom certificate means restricted access for a reason, and is also reasonable to ask for minimum credentials to the one that is using such device. You wouldn't leave the keys of the office of your work hanging outside in the door would you?
I keep the keys in my pocket, like my phone. No need to put them in a locked case. It would be annoying to have to find the key to open the case so I can get access to the key that would open the door ...
There's an app that disables your lock screen on the market.

No Lock Screen.
There's one on there that you install using your computer, and it downloads to your phone and disables the lock screen. It's mainly for a forgotten password though.
I'm thinking that no lock screen is what you need.
That completely removes it though.
I suggest installing MagicLocker to replace your lock screen entirely.

That kind of applications don't work like supposed when Device Administrators are installed. Just after that custom unlock takes you anyway to the pattern or password. Try it.
This worked for me I agree with you: there's no reason that I can not have my phone without lockscreen protection just to sign into my school's wifi network.

PS: Diggin those thanks if this works for you
Just an addendum to toggling pattern lock on and off using root, when you disable pattern lock, the phone will revert to whatever the last lock method was. If it was "None" the phone will turn straight onto the homescreen. If it was "Slide" you'll see the side to unlock keyguard.
If you want to change this, go into Settings > Security > Screen lock > Slide then repeat but choose Settings > Security > Screen lock > Pattern. This effectively sets the 2 lock types the phone will toggle between.

Just recently my phone has started to unlock in my pocket and when I pull it out there are tons of programs open. I'm running stock.314 rooted but been rooted for couple of months now with no issues.
Check if you have accidentally enabled gloves mode. Settings - screen - enable gloves mode.
Unchecked it.

That was one of the first things I checked lol. It's not enabled
Then maybe you have a rogue app. That enables your screen. Then it's easy for it to get unlocked. Just saying

Yes I've been disabling apps and testing. Still no culprit.
Maybe you have the double tap to unlock feature on and turning on while walking??
Or the dedicated camera button. I've had that happen to me a couple times where I pull out my phone and the camera app is launched.

Do you have any applications that wake your phone when getting notifications? Try disabling all your data and see if it still happens. And for a temporary fix, maybe put a PIN so you're phone doesn't just unlock
Yes pin or may be a pattern?
Trusted Location not working is a common problem with various devices, but so far I never encountered any issues on my S8. However, with the S9+ I cannot get it to work. Adding your current location still leaves the phone locked. I rebooted, deleted, edited and added new locations, with no success. Anyone experienced similar issues?
It was working on my S8+ but a few weeks ago became very inconsistent. S9+ is no different. I suspect its Google related.
For some reason it started working now. Did not do anything. Seems to be a sporadic service issue, like you said.
It has stopped working for me completely in my S8 running Oreo.
Just wondering if there are any new devopments on this. None of the so-called "solutions" I have found on the internet (erasing cache etc.) work. Has everybody just given up? S8 running oreo here.
To me it works sometime and sometimes it doesnt. I have tried to do it in so many differenr way but still luck. Just works when it wants to. Funny part is with my pixel 2 xl it worked 100% of the time on oreo 8.1 so it most be something withing samsung tweaks.
People have been complaining about this for quite a while now...too bad it can't just work reliably.
By chance, do you use any type of managed email service?
For example, I have a work provided Microsoft Office 365 account. Configuration of the account on the phone requires the application to have device admin privileges and one of the permissions disabled the option of Smart Lock, which infuriates me but I understand.
It's worth checking the make sure nothing that has device admin privs is blocking that feature.
I had the same problem with my S8+. Then I jumped to the Note8, and it worked perfectly (every single time, without exception).
Now, with my S9+, it's useless. It has never worked. Not once. Pretty damn ridiculous.
On Note8 with Oreo it didn't work. Now I'm on S9+ and I'm not sure because bluetooth works well. I tried to turning BT off and the phone staid unlocked. So who knows...
I did have to remove and re-add my home address in the Smart Lock app, but after doing so it does unlock using the location now.
Restarted the phone to confirm it "sticks" and it does. Of course, the first unlock after a restart is always going to want security, but after that it is working as expected.

i find if I move around between my trusted locations, it'll work. But if I stay in one place for more than a few hours, it'll stop auto-unlocking.

So far so good. I've been home for a few hours and Smart Lock is working well on both my s9 and s9+. Had my s9 with me all day and no restarts.
I should add that I don't keep my phones on High Accuracy, keep them on Battery Saver. One thing I did when I reset my home address was I used the Add a Place and used the Lat. and Long the phone had me at. It was close to my address but it placed me closer to my neighbor. Don't know if this is what helped make Smart Lock stick...

Hi,
I think that since update to Android 10 Smart Lock stopped working or does not work as it should.
Basically with Trusted Places enabled I still need to unlock phone with fingerprint or pin. If I go to smart lock settings and turned it off and on smart lock works for a short time only.
I switched battery optimisation for maps, location and other options.
Does any of you experiencing any issues with smart lock and have any suggestions how to fix mine?
Phone with original system, not altered.
Similar is with my wife's S10 phone.
Thanks
