Hi guys, new to Mate 10 pro here.
I couldn't find the 4G toggle for the quick settings. Previously this toggle is available on my P10 even before Oreo. My mate10 pro is running on Oreo btw. Is this toggle not available for this phone? it's kinda weird since both are using the same emui 8. Hope someone could confirm this. If so, how can I make it possible to have this toggle? I'm used to the existence of the toggle when I was using P10.
one more issue, touchscreen sensitivity is quite bad on this phone. every time when I'm typing I always missed out letters especially the one nearer to the edge. I tried to bring up the pressure sensitivity settings and pushed down to the most minimum, I even turned on gloves mode, still same problem. I'm hoping that this tempered glass i'm using is the culprit, but need to confirm if this is not a known issue before I take it off.
Thanks guys!
What do you mean with 4G toggle? A toggle to shut off mobile data?
Just click at the mobile data toggle.

As for the display sensitivity, there is already a protetor pre-installed, if you but another one on top without removing the previous protector, this might cause sensitivity problems.
Also, if you don't use the knock gestures, turn them off, I think it improves the screen response.
I have no problems whatsoever I think it's ur screen protector. The tampered glass ones are really bad I went for a standard screen protector and it works just fine

4G Toggle is a toggle with 4G icon, triggers the "Enable 4G" option. I only use 4G when I'm downloading so usually I will drag down to quick settings and tap on this toggle to turn on 4G, and tap again to turn it off (back to 3G/HSPDA). This toggle existed on P10, so it's weird that it's not available on mate10.
is the pre-installed protector can be easily seen on top of the screen? coz yesterday i removed the screen protector and I don't really see any screen protector underneath.. so I guess the pre-installed one already been removed by the previous owner..

It's the curved glass. Same like Samsung and new iPhones, the self adhesive ones we used on older phones require a flat surface. The new glass protectors have to have glue along the sides so there is no guarantee that the glass will seemlessly connect to the screen. Hence screen might not be as responsive.
I had the 4G toggle on my C185 Mate 9 when it was new, but after rebranding to C432 it disappeared. Now I have Mate 10 with C185 and its not there so I guess they removed that feature.
why would they remove such useful feature.. oh well guess I have to just do more work to embrace this issue.

Hi
I find the solution:
Just add below lines to the "hw_defaults.xml" file in product/hw_oem/ your phone model/xml:
<integer settings.global.hw_4g_show="1" reset="true"/>
Note: u should add this line in "3.BASEAPP TEAM BEGIN -->" section
Post a screan shoot of your hw_defaults.xm. I can not find "3.BASEAPP TEAM BEGIN -->" section . Thanks.

Yes, they come with a screen protector preinstalled No need to take it of.
Should that scratch easily? I have had the phone less than a day and all I did was pull it out of my pocket and I have a couple scratches now. They don't seem to be coming off. Don't know why but it although it looks like its a protector it doesn't feel like one. I wonder if anyone has actually removed it?

I removed the pre installed protector on my x10 and Arc, I think it's the same thing. I just applied a new protetor directly on the glass.
I found the pre-installed protector made the screen feel very 'sticky' to touch and also attracted dust, dog hair etc like a magnet! Much better without it
I don't think my phone has a screenprotector.

Everyone phone sold in the Netherlands has one installed confirmed by Sony NL
Bought an Xperia S in Italy yesterday, and yes, there is one screen protector in the box, one on the display glass and one (with printed demo graphics on it, so it have to be removed) on top of the one installed on the display...
Great !
I saw it just in time, my girfriend was already managing how to stick the protector found in the box
Has anyone else noticed that the softkeys are not very responsive? If so does removing the screen protector help?
I'm starting to think that the screen protector is the cause..
I took mine off. I hate them, and yes, my home button is more responsive.

In the end I decided to remove the screen protector, the softkeys work every time now!
I don't see why I should slide my finger up from the transparent strip when there are keys made to be pressed..
I might put on the other screen protector that was in the box, cutting the bottom part so it doesn't cover the softkeys
Mm.. How did you all remove it safely? I am honestly a little bit afraid... Where I should start to pick it off?
I never have to remove one by myself before...

Start at any of the corners and use your nails, or the plastic bubble remover from the other screen protector, it takes a while as it's really stuck on well!
I quite like the fact that the soft keys are a bit unresponsive, saves me accidentally hitting the home key when sliding up the notification panel!

Screen protector
I sent an e-mail to the Sony helpdesk to ask whether this is a screen protector or not.
This is the answer i got from them:
"With regards to your enquiry, I inform you that the Xperia S has a preinstalled protective layer that should not be removed."

comment from xperia support staff:
The phone comes with a shatter proof sheet attached on scratch-resistant glass.
So, the screen protector that comes pre-attached is meant to keep the display from shattering if e.g. dropped. It also protects against other damages to a small extent. This sheet is however not scratch-resistant (the display is though).
You can remove this protection if you want to but I suggest you keep it on. If you remove it you should attach a new one to keep the display protected.
I should also point out that "scratch-resistant" is not the same as "scratch-proof". If you put all your body weight on a sharp object and swipe it over the screen, you will most likely get a scratch so you should still be careful.
I keep my phone in my front jeans pocket with nothing else but the phone in it. Keys, coins etc will damage the phone sooner or later.

Just got my Realook Screen protector, they just came out and arrived today. These are the hard plastic kind so they feel like glass. $12 for two from Amazon. I had one on my Epic 4G for 1.5 years without a problem. I've tried others, like Zagg and Phantom Skinz, don't compare to the hard plastic. I kind of wanted to try the Steinheil this time, but I figured why not stick with what works.
I just installed it. Took me a few tries to get it perfectly centered since it covers the entire screen, including the capacative buttons. Installed it after I took a shower to minimize the dust. Two remaining dust specs I removed using the included scotch tape.
How does it feel? Just as I expected. Can't even tell its on, feels slick like glass.
Here's some quick pictures. Checkout the reflection of my bathroom light, shows ZERO orange peel effect.

no cutout for the proxy sensor, it completely covers the glass. screen still turns off during a call I can do more testing. seems ok so far.
The problems I've seen with the screen protector covering the prox sensor is that the screen won't turn on during a call when you look at the phone. So if you get another phone call and take the phone away from your head to look at the screen to see who is calling it stays dark and you can't look.
Is that the case with this or does it still detect when its not next to your head so you can look at the screen during a call?

Hello,
I have recently purchased XZ1 and using it around month.
While using the phone I noticed the "Image retention" at the soft-navigation key and top-notification bar.
I immediately fired diagnostic app and saw serious burn-in marks.
I am using this phone around 1 month with brightness less than 25% and
with automatic brightness enabled and without much heavy usage.

Screen burn
Yes I have screen burn too
that's not screen burn-in. that's "dirty screen effect" or panel uniformity problems common to LCD's. it's caused by various pressure points along the panel edges. burn-in, on OLEDs, would manifest as say, the Android back/home/multitasking buttons at the bottom of the screen having a ghostly image present no matter what else was on the screen.

This is image retention. You can easily spot the navbar.
Edit: let me be more specific. The original topic title is not correct, as burn in is OLED typical issue, it's permanent and caused by OLED consuming itself where brighter images are shown.
What we are experiencing here, given we are talking of IPS panel, is image retention. The screen gets a temporary shadow of what was previously showed. Pretty common in IPS displays, yes it's transient but this should not be the case for a TOP TIER device.
As a reference I took a cheap Moto G5: guess what? No retention.
IMHO, this is Sony's fault, bad choice in IPS panel.

I'm still deciding what to do with the phone. I could obtain a refund from Amazon, but sincerely I don't know which phone can pair the XZ1 in terms of size and performance (screen apart).
Mine is brand new and has nothing of those spots. Does it start to appear after months? How was yours when they were brand new?

Mine started to appear around a month.
It was fine when it was brand new.
Image retention takes time to appear.
Found out that the retention mostly happens with solid black color (like the navbar), while solid white tends to remove it in some seconds.
My workaround is to install Navbar Apps from PlayStore, customize your navbar to show a light grey navbar (mine is #bcbcbc hex color) and the retention will not be a problem anymore.
A better solution would be to have a solid white bar, but it's ugly and the buttons become invisible. The best solution is a permanently transparent navbar, but AFAIK this is possible only with root.
Then I have combined the navbar customization with selective Immersive mode for the apps that I use most: using Tasker and Custom Navigation Bar I have enabled immersive mode for apps like Chrome and Spotify, so I will not be annoyed while using them.

Glass protectors always break in a month or 2 and I don't prefer it on my phone and also the new display is strong enough that doesn't get cracked easily but they do get scratched which is frustrating. So I bought this film xxxxxx from Gadgetshieldz which is installed with liquid that gives an extra layer of protection from scratches and it has a self-healing feature that heals most of the scratches, this interested me to buy this.
Mod Edit: Post edited.
The install was so easy with the template.
Months later the purchase more than paid for itself. While on vacation and trying to setup a small tripod my wife’s phone dropped from about 10” onto a rock and completely destroyed the phone or so we thought. On further inspection it was the screen protector that shattered.
Unfortunately for me I can’t find the spare so I’ll have to purchase again but the extra protection form such a small accident is worth it.
Anyone have a fix for this? It works about 5 times out of 10, very frustrating.
Is power management active? Just a guess.
It seems to be a common Sony problem.
Maybe it's just technique, see link.

Not sure with Sony, Samsung's have a couple features to mitigate this.
Place with display facing away from your skin.
Place in pocket by the sides not the display.
Use a case with slightly raised guards on the sides.
non of that will help. I can confirm this. Also, the same was happening on my XZ2. I would fine the phone warm just to realize that it did who knows what.
What helped in my case was pattern lock. But that greatly ruined my experience because I usually don't use any locks on my devices. On mark IV i can't get my music player to be always present on lock screen, only if it is playing, which was the main reason why I used that, turned that off. AOD as such is ggod enough option for me.

The display will not activate unless touched, it's that simple. Dry cloth has no effect.
but many other things that get in contact through the cloth have. Zippers, keys, hands, wet cloths, poles in public transport........Yeah. it should not be happening but it did happened waaaaaay to many times to be just a coincidence.

You need to sort it out. This isn't rocket science.
Water should never come in contact with the phone even if ip68 rated.I keep the N10+ in my bdu pant thigh cargo pocket by itself facing outward. Sometimes vest pocket.
It also is in a Zizo Bolt case. I have little accidental turn ons.
Been using it like this for 3 years.
Samsung's have a system app that help block accidental touches if it senses random hits it requires a swipe to turn on the display. There may be a similar app on Playstore.
so does have a SONY. And it is not something that happens 37x per day but it happened enough times on XZ2 and a few times on 1 IV to make me realize that it can happen.
yup. turned off accidental touch in pocket setting to see if it helps

Happens occasionally to me but it's always my fault when or how I place it in my pocket. In 3 years of heavy usage the accidental turn on's never caused any system or app damage. Cargo pockets are ideal, I use bdu's with button closure; the rearward one buttoned, the forward one unbuttoned. It never falls out even when running.
Easy to access and a relatively safe storage area.
A well designed case helps a lot with this issue especially with curved displays. They case should have side guards slightly higher than the display, end guards even higher. Helps prevent damage in face plant drops too.
Double tap works fine for me I've had my phone for a week now.
