Flashing Problems - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have a SM-N910F model which is proving extremely difficult to flash. I firstly flashed the latest Marshmallow UK BTU firmware on it which resulted in a boot loop. I cleared cache partition and wiped data/factory reset in the stock recovery (and TWRM recovery) but this did not fix the problem. So I flashed the phone again and this time it was stuck in a boot loop with the text "recovering booting..." at the top left. Tried the same as before and still didnt fix it.
So I then tried a different stock rom - Lollipop UK BTU firmware. This gave me the exact same problems as before. However on a few occasions, I also got an error on the recovery screen saying cache could not be mounted. I cleared the cache partition, tried reformatting cache using TWRM but none of this worked. Eventually I reflashed and it went away but the boot loop doesnt go.
Lastly I tried an even older firmware - Kitkat UK BTU firmware. This again gave me a boot loop problem. It also kept displaying the cannot mount cache error as well. I tried using PIT file to repartition the device and eventually the error went but the device would still be on boot loop. However on two occasions the phone did go past the Samsung logo and show the first setup screen (where you select initial settings like Wifi etc). After like 10-15 seconds it would just switch off and then go back into boot loop. I havent managed to get to the first setup screen again.
I have tried flashing with various different Odin versions but still no luck.
I feel like I have exhausted my options and not sure what to do. Do you think I should try a custom rom? If so, for the sake of getting it to start, which is a good lightweight rom?
Does anyone know what I can do to make these infinite boot loops and/or "cannot mount cache" error go away?

Anyone? I could really do with some help..

I think you have problem with motherboard, try to find original stock frimeware, by country. If not help try custom rom. I suggest any AOSP rom such as Lineage OS or CM.

Tried 3 different stock roms. Like I said it will either be in a boot loop, recovery loop, or give an cache mounting error. Im hoping that the motherboard is not faulty because it is not always the same problem

Hi , I think is because You have FRP (Factory Reset Protection) On which means you can't flash property your phone .
What U can try is to extract recovery.img from latest stock firmware for your Region .
Now use this script to transform recovery.img to recovery.tar.md5
here is how to do :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446269
Put your phone in download mode click on AP: and choose recovery.tar.md5
After that click on Start .
If the flashing was OK , put again your phone in Download mode and flash completely the same firmware with original recovery.img inside it.
Good Luck
One guy from forums.androidcentral.com posted it work on sm-n910t, Android 6.0.1 .

Help with upgrading firmware through odin. Phone stuck on boot animation

Hi all,
I am trying to update my phone to a new firmware using odin. I am following the instructions in this thread. However after odin has done its thing, it displays "PASS!", my phone reboots but then hangs on the boot animation. I have left it for about 20 mins and tried reflashing the rom with no luck.
I have also tried another firmware, but its gets stuck in a half bootloop (repeating the boot animation)
Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
Thanks
Aaron
Boot to recovery and wipe cache see if that works, if it still bootloops you'll need to boot to recovery and do a factory reset.
I booted into recovery and wiped everything, and it works now.
Thanks

[Q] Help with flashing

Hi all, I have tried to flash all of the roms available and none aside from aokp 6.11 will boot. TWRP seems to flast the rom but I get a boot loop. Tried the new version of aopk 11.16 and same issue, I get a boot loop. Within TWRP I cannot factory reset as TWRP cannot mount /cache however erasing all partitions using fastboot does not seem to make any difference (I am not sure if erasing using fastboot is the same as the factory reset through TWRP). I have tried to flash back to stock and I get the green robot but then the device just reboots. To get back to stock I've extracted the recovery.img from the update zip and flashed using fastboot, then put the dload folder on the sdcard etc and as said I just ge a reboot.
The only rom that works is aokp 6.11 and even then wifi does not work and the power button just reboots the device.
I am about to give up. I've spent hours messing with the thing but to no avail! Does anyone have any ideas/solutions?

[Q] Software Unbrick HELP PLEASE!

Hi All,
OK, so I've soft bricked my S3, or so I hope.
It was fine when I took it off charge this morning, but at work I noticed that my pocket was getting oddly hot..
Took my phone out my pocket and the phone was stuck on the boot screen (the first one).
Went into recovery and tried a cache wipe, dalvik wipe, still the same, then tried a wipe data/factory reset, and the system kept rebooting before it finished the wipe!
Then I tried flashing the OMEGA ROM I had on my SD card and the aroma installer would start, but as soon as it tried to do any sort of wipe at the start, the phone rebooted again!!
So after this I decided to download the latest stock firmware from samsung-updates.com and flash via odin. The firmware flashed OK but then the phone would not start again, still stuck at the boot logo.
I then tried to flash the CWM recovery again from the samsung galaxys3 toolkit folder on my C: drive. When trying to flash this, it kept getting stuck at "NAND Write Start!!" and would not go any further. Now whatever I try and flash via ODIN it gets stuck at NAND Write Start!!
I also have tried flashing the latest .pit along with and separely to the ROM with the "Re-Partition" button checked in ODIN and it just fails every time.
Is there anything I can do? Or if I have to send it to the service centre, is there a way to reset the binary counter from download mode? :/ Mine is saying 7 counts.
anyone?

Galaxy s3 can't boot, can't wipe data/factory reset, can't install stock recovery

A few days ago i got the massage "uid inconsistent feeling lucky" and after a couple of minutes my phone restarted and got stuck on the flashing samsung logo, i was on an official 4.3 rom rooted.
I decided that it's time to move to Lineage OS 7.1.1. I tried to enter twrp recovery that was installed on my device but got stuck on the twrp splash screen and after 2 seconds it reboots the device, i installed 7 different twrp versions 2.8.5.0 - 3.0.2-2 with odin but every time with the same result, stuck on twrp splash screen
So i tried to install a stock rom, after odin finished and the device rebooted it got stuck again on the flashing samsung logo and when i tried to enter the recovery that should be the stock recovery i got an android image with the red triangle and the phone reboots, when i tried to install stock recovery with odin it got stuck on file analysis.
After all that i downloaded cwm recovery and philz recovery and those were the only recovery i can access, i can delete cache and dalvik cache but when i try to wipe data/factory reset when i select the option the phone immediately reboots.
I also tried to install the Lineage OS 7.1.1 official rom with cwm but got an error massage "can't install this package on top of incompatible data. please try another package or run a factory reset".
Please help me
Is the phone encrypted? You confirmed the model # of the phone by booting into download mode?

When flashing a stock ROM, Odin gives no errors? Are you able to boot into stock recovery right after flashing a stock ROM?

No errors in odin, when i try to enter stock recovery after flashing stock rom there is an android picture with red triangle and the phone reboots, the only problem that i had with odin is when i tried to flash only the stock recovery it got stuck on file analysis, in my first post i wrote all the things that i've tried already and what works and doesn't work
I'm at a loss as to what the problem could be. Have you thought about taking the phone to a cell repair shop to see if it can be flashed via JTAG?

this would be my last resort, where i live a shop would charge me more than the phone is worth to repair it, is there a way to factory reset with a software or adb with a phone that can't boot into the os?
The only way I know of is using stock or custom recovery.

can it help if i check the re-partition or erase all nand option in odin?
You need a pit file in order to repartition.

The error you got means you need to wipe the /system partition before you flash Lineage. As for why TWRP isn't working, I'm really not too sure unless the image size is bigger than the actual recovery partition size.

The PIT file depends on the phones model or on the rom version or both?
File depends on model number and the amount of internal memory. I think the 9300 has 16 GB.

the only recovery i can use is cwm or philz, but when i try to wipe data\factory reset the phone reboots right when i select the option and does not complete the wipe\reset, i wiped cache, dalvik cache and system partition, but when i try to install the rom it said incomplete data and i should do a factory reset and i can't do that, i had the latest twrp working before all of this happened

Thank you, i will try to download the file and re-partition in odin, that is the only thing i haven't tried yet
Is it possible the phone has 32 GB?

Noooo... Dont repartition it. You haven't had anything that says it needs it yet.
Flash the stock firmware twice, back to back then see if you have more control.
If you have a btu device (unlocked international) i can give you my reliable files to flash.
All you'll need for now is the firmware file. Flash it and as the phone reboots (blue pass in odin) you need to get it into download mode again without going to the os, if you miss it just pull the battery and go again.
Once in dl mode for the second time, flash the firmware again. When the phone reboots, before it goes to os, get in into RECOVERY MODE and try to factory wipe it. If successful allow it to reboot again as normal to os.
If the factory wipe fails or the phone still hangs at the samsung logo you have bigger issues.

Softbricked Moto C - Followed Unbrick Guide - No use

So I installed successfuly DoT OS on my Moto C, however when I customized my phone a bit, I messed things up and attempted to reset DoT OS to stock settings.
Ever since my phone has been stuck in an infinite boot to TWRP.
Followed this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426426
I tried wiping Dalvik, Cache
Tried Re-flashing from scratch, wiping Dalvik, Cache, System, Data.
Tried installing a stock rom. Failed.
Tried installing Lineage OS. Still in the loop.
Please help
Today I tried formatting Cache and Data. Still no luck.
Try to flash another twrp and also one old version of stock firmware .

That totally did it! Now it won't even boot!
In an attempt to flash stock firmware with SF Tool I totally formatted the phone with Format + Download and in the middle of the process I got a message that the firmware cannot be flashed because the phone has a secure baseband and an AUTH file is needed, so now the phone has no firmware and won't boot at all.
I tried an AUTH file I found on the Internet, but it doesn't work.
I am now taking the phone to the service center in hopes that they will be able to flash back the stock firmware and revive it.
Send me you Model Number , and try to flash several times latest stock recovery with Format + Download in order to confuse your phone to be able to flash your phone without problem.
Don't panick , that can happen to everyone.
That error is probably because wrong twrp for that version that you want to flash .
