Guess it depends on the individual needs. The xtz is a great tablet, don't get me wrong, but I'm trying to sell my xtz to get the note 10.1 2014. Water proof is a useless feature in my case. The s pen however I could use. I love my note 3. I really want the note tablet experience.

I never even unlocked or rooted my xtz. I had a feeling I wasn't going to keep it. I just sold it on Amazon. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I have my old Kindle fire running cm11 nightlies to tide me over for a while. The xtz is a great tablet, I just wasn't getting $550 worth of use from it.
I have the 3.21, it runs great, hardley use my iPad 3 now. Waterproof is very important to me, I live in Canada. Its nice being, able to trek through snow and rain with this tablet not having to worry. All game I throw at it play great. In run a custom ROM and recovery s well as some scripts toleep it running fast. Also tablets get dirty, we all eat with them, nice to be able to rinse the tablet in the sink and the preinstalled screen protector is a nice touch.
So current owners of this tablet, I just purchased the Asus FHD 10 (ME302c) tablet, but may return it for this one. This is $100 more expensive, but it may be worth it.
Any complaints with custom roms or anything not working on this tab? I generally want it for some video watching and reading, browsing.
Thanks.

It's widely reported that the microphone on the xtz is poor, to the extent that it is unuseable with some apps -Skype for example.
I can vouch for the poor mic issue on Skype. You have to use mic+headset combo plugged in to the headphone jack to be able to talk to someone.
Very dissaponting. Some people have exchanged their xtz for a new one only to find the problem is still there

I guess my thing is I just want it for internet browsing, some streaming, watching 720p/1080p mkvs and reading on. I like to tinker with Android and ROM's though and the XTZ has a thriving dev section where the Asus is non existant.
Im looking for a tablet to replace my laptop and nexus 7 (2012)
My work load will be videos (On occasions) youtube, some light gaming, word processing (With keyboard) web browsing, spotify.
I am a student so it will be for work mostly with it all backed up to google cloud, for films I will OTG them over to the device so I don't use onboard storage.
I was looking at the Tab S 8.4 but I love Nexus and been very up to date.
So what is the battery life like for the Nexus 9 under a medium work load using office stuff, when I am gaming I will be near a plug.
So should I get a Nexus 9 or the Tab S?
Many thanks!
I only used Word on my N9 for a short time, but it works okay. Many 365/2010 features are absent on the Android version, so I'm not sure if it would replace your laptop usage. With my light usage 8hrs was the max I ever saw, when using it frequently 5-6.5hrs of SOT was typical. One thing you should consider is the battery life of your current laptop, as well as compatibility with whatever programs.

My usage for word is light, using google docs mostly and the battery life on my laptop on light use is at best 4 hours so nothing amazing I never feel truly portable

I would go with a surface pro 3 instead of a nexus 9. I own both.

Well the N9 will be able to last more than that for word.

A Surface is more expensive AND larger than a N9, don't think he wants such a device. The experience of using either as a tablet differs too, since Android is a lot more user friendly in that regard.

Amazon UK doing the 16GB version for £199 today click here
I would definitely recommend getting a Nexus 9. However, something to keep in mind is that it was released about 8 months ago and the two previous Nexus tablets, namely Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 7 (2013) were released about 1 year apart. This means that there may be a new Nexus tablet in about 4 months. Of course, Nexus 9 was released 4 months "late" so if Google does that again you may have at most 8 months, so Nexus 9 has already reached its half-life.
Whether you care about this or not is your choice, but it's something to keep in mind. I personally never buy or recommend anyone to buy a product that's reached its half-life.

You can find a decent surface pro for $400 or so. A Nexus 9 will run $300.

I tend to end up rooting my devices within 12 months so cyanogen mod should keep me floating for a few years, Google updates will do fine for a while, but I was also recently looking at the nvidia shield while it is cheaper, it also has as card support, hdmi and the other game things, so what would be supporting argument for n9, I love the nexus line but nvidia just seems to offer a bit more, but I love the Denver processor in the n9 also the screen and Google support
Thanks
performance and battery life are pretty poor for such a beast of a device. i haven't tried M, so i can't say if it'll help. spend $200 on a lenovo tab 2 a10-70. they're not top of the line but seem to be good bang-for-the-buck devices. the ONLY reason why i haven't gotten one for myself is b/c they don't make the multiangle slim folio cases for it yet. i won't buy a device that doesn't have one made for it, lol.

I never said he couldn't use Windows - just that the experience of each device differs, which is true. Both devices have been operated by me, and I wouldn't suggest each to the same person, nor do I encourage iPad users to buy a Surface either.

Surface pro also has a 10" device. A Nexus is far from replacing a laptop, but a surface pro can be used as a tablet, computer, note taking device (student), and run Android apps (bluestacks, myandy, etc..). I own a Nexus 9 and only use it for entertainment. I own a surface pro 3 (12 inch), and I do all of my school work on it. I write and record my lecture notes, highlight keypoints on pdf and other type of files, type (surface keyboard) documents on Google drive, use split screen to watch YouTube videos while I finish a document, and save my videos/pictures on a microsd card. The surface pro is such an amazing and productive device for a student.

if you're referring to the one i won't buy b/c i can't find a case... it's the lenovo tab 2. i've got the nexus 9 with a slim folio case.
the lackluster performance and battery life are the nexus 9 remarks. 5.1.1 did address the ramping up of the gpu and cpu to full speed when touching the screen, but it's still ramping up pretty high compaired to my galaxy note 10.1 2014. you'd figure being a more powerful device wouldn't have to draw so much power when interacting with it. using a custom rom and tuning the cpu and gpu down does yield better battery life, but at the cost of performance - it starts stuttering. i haven't tried undervolting or even checking if that was an option with the rom i'm using. that way i can keep the performance without sacrificing battery life. as it is, i get 7-8hours of use depending on how much i touch it. reading a book or watching a video can get me almost 10hours since i don't touch it much while doing those tasks.
just to clarify, the performance isn't from the cpu or gpu, but with the memory management. it just doesn't seem to get it right... i get screen redraws when i change tabs while browsing, i have to use a memory killer in order to not have it lock up daily... it's issues i had when i used a device with only 512MB of ram.
So would you say get the shield tablet over nexus 9
The shield is powerful but has issues of its own. While it has a mSD slot, you have to jump through hoops to get it to barely work. Apps cannot write to it directly. Nvidia is not very good yet at getting the basic features working properly. P.S. I have the shield tab.
Hi all, first of all I hope this is the right section (forgive me mods and admins if not.) Secondly I'm looking to buy a tablet running Nvidia hardware for their optimized games and since I'm a Google fanboy the nexus 9 is at the top of my wishlist. I was just wondering as far as hardware goes, which is faster? I know they have the same processor and gpu but the nexus 9's is 64 bit which will make it the winner right? Also is the nexus 9's Kepler GPU on par with the Shield tablets Kepler GPU, and does the Nexus 9 have all the optimizations and benefits of the Nvidia Tablet?
How much do you have to spend? At this stage, if I didn't have a n9 already, I'd be looking into the Google Pixel C
Sadley I'm on a 300$ budget. I know what you mean, the Pixcel C looks like the tablet to have for a power user but I won't have the resources sadley.
I have both the N9 & the Shield tab. IMO the Shield is the better device. This doesn't mean that the N9 is a bad one. But for pure media consumtion like watching movies, videos and ofcourse playing games go for the Shield. In games the Shield performs better and you will never notice any heat. Its also near stock and latest 5.1.1 runs really great. As for flashing roms its not the best option, but you see N9 has also not alot.
But as always its your choice

I haven't seen any reputable stores sell it anymore. It's off Amazon, Newegg, and even Nvidia's site now.
Thanks for the reply! Will consider when buying! Can you explain why the Shield Tablet isn't the best for flashing? That's usually what I like in a device but I can reconsider because I'm looking at these at a gaming tablet standpoint.
Nexus 9 has a lot of problems. I have my 2nd tablet and its still messed up.
I'm searching for a "good low-cost" tablet that I will use mainly for reading comics/manga, watching tv shows on netflix and browsing on chrome (no gaming as I do that on my pc). I always wanted to try this tablet mainly for being a nexus (I have the N5 and N6p) and the screen.
Do you still recommend this tablet? What dou think is its max price?

Watching videos on the N9 is great-screen quality, but you might not like the ratio. Comic books would be ok. It's lousy (at least mine is) at web browsing. I would say be very careful purchasing one. Some have been crappy right from the assembly line. Some have been great-not mine, but it's still working as long as I factory reset at least every 2 months.
You have 2 of the best phones google put out. My N5 still works (had to change the battery). Still have the GNex and the N4. Got 6P for one son and it's been super. I'm using a 5X for main phone. I've had both N7's and recently bought Acer r11 Chromebook. The N9 is the worst of my collection. I won't even consider any HTC device now. Just my opinion.

I'll buy from ebay so I won't have a chance to try it and I was worried after I read all the issues it had.
I see that it is like the N6P if you are lucky you will get an awesome device.
I'll watch some ebay deals and I'll probably take one if the price is good as I don't like the kindle fire and all the tablet under 200 euro. I thought about going into chromebook but I don't know if the experience would be better or not.

You're right, it's a dice roll. But there are more good than bad. If you get a good one, hey it's a Nexus (very flash friendly). And the screen is great for movies and comics. Aspect is off for movies but not a big deal. Not as many ROMs as n7 (2013), I came from that. Oreo isn't quite ready yet (the hardware acceleration not working). But lineage is working on oreo.

I noticed that the builds for Oreo (AOSP and LOS) are taking a longer time compared to pevious versions. In a few hours maybe I'll have my N9, I'll spend max 140 euro.
comics reading
ipad pro , surface pro or samsung galaxy is good , just super expensive. The nexus tablets seem to do fairly well.
I have the XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro ( xp-pen.com/product/65.html ) Pen display tablet for making comics , and I totally prefer drawing directly on a screen. it support pen pressure and pen tilt function , it's amazing and I’ve had a good experience with it .
EDIT: I managed to find a used one for half that price, so I jumped at it!
Hi!
I found a local dealer who still has a few brand new Mi Pad 1 in stock for about $250.
Is that a good price, and is it worth getting 2019?
If I buy one it will be mainly for gaming (emulators to be more specific). I wanted to pick up a Nvidia Shield K1, but they seem rather expensive for a pre owned one, and a Xiaomi Mi Pad is internally pretty much the same thing, right?
I dont think it is a good choice in 2019 and that too for 250 dollar is too much i bought it 3 yrs back (brand new) for 10000 inr that's arround 140.45 dollars. I would say rather go look for mi pad 4 or any new ipads. As far as gamming goes nah drivers are not too much optimised hence poor performance like you will get 20-25 fps in pubg with everything set to lowest with gfx tool and custom rom (nvidia shield blobs which in my opinion is the fastest available for this thing)
I paid $80 for mine pre owned, wouldn't much more than that even for a 64gb model.
$250??? Oh my God,Profiteer!!!
Go for Mi Pad 4. Treble support, SD 660 and stable Pie for $250
In general it would definitely be a bad idea but if you just want to play low power emulators like NES and all then you could go for it. But don't expect good performance from emulators like dolphin and PPSSPP. also, I would recommend you install a shield blobs based rom as soon as you get your device.
