Hello fine people who know more than I do.
I purchased an unlocked S9 from Best Buy while in the States.
I am looking to impart my network in Ireland (eir/meteor) firmware on to it as I need the Wi-Fi calling that the unlocked US version doesn't have.
So I have the G965U1, the version software I found on another site was for the G965F does that mean it won't work correctly? Help I have no clue.
Hello,
My wife's Galaxy Note 8 somehow boots to different firmware based on SIM card inserted into it which surprised me since I thought that phones are usually coming with single firmware for either provider. I'm considering switching to T-Mobile from ATT and I have ATT branded Galaxy S9+ unlocked. My question will it have the same experience I noticed on my wife's phone or I have to deal with flashing firmware etc to make it work properly with WiFI calling etc features of native T-Mobile ROM?
Below message I received from Ebay seller which sold Galaxy Note 8. Is it true?
Thanks for contacting us. Samsung integrated new firmwares on S8 and newer model phones. Means whatever sim card you insert, it will program according to it. If you insert T-Mobile sim card, phone will restart and will show T-Mobile logo and apps. Same for AT&T and other GSM carriers. If you are AT&T user. Please insert the AT&T sim card and phone will ask you to restart the device with AT&T logo and apps. Tap yes.

Yes. It will work on any carrier. Even vzw or Sprint

If unlocked ATT branded GS9+ phone will work on any other carrier, what is the point of the threads below about flashing T-Mobile CSC (or whatever it's called) to ATT phone and vice a versa, etc if phone already supports switching between carriers on it's own?
I have a Samsung S9+ I currently use that I bought and Canada and now recently moved to the states. I have been trying to see if I could either flash the firmware or just change providers to the United States one. The model number is SM-G965W for the s9+ and the s9 is SM-G960W they both are unlocked in Canada but they don't work in the states. I was wondering if there is a guide or if some one could help me. Thanks so much!
Hello,
I'm here to ask you for help because since January 2020 I bought a Galaxy S9+ (SM-G965U), and I have some problems.
On the one hand, I'm not allowed to get updates. The last version of Android normally available is version 10, but I'm on version 9 and no update is proposed. On the other hand, I can't send MMS and sometimes I don't receive incoming calls. In addition, the quality of the 4G connection is poor.
I contacted Samsung support and they told me that my phone is not French and that there is an American version on it. So I can't update it or send MMS.
What can I do to put it in French? i.e. XEF version ?
Thank you in advance for your help
Unfortunately you have a 965U, which is a U.S. model phone, and will not be the ideal model to use in France. And you can't flash any international firmware, which is 965F. The LTE connection is probably poor because of the differing radio bands used over there compared to the ones you have on that model phone.
As for MMS, have you entered the proper APN for the cellular provider that you are using there? I think it's possible that it could work but I'm not sure.
I am thinking of getting an S21 from AT&T because of the deal they have right now, but I don't like AT&T bloatware. I'm a noob when it comes to phone firmware and such, so I'm not sure what is or isn't possible.
My understanding is as follows:
Carrier unlock is possible via AT&T website to use other carrier SIM cards.
Bootloader unlock is not possible on AT&T devices (starting at V2 seemingly?).
I'm just not clear if you need an unlocked bootloader to flash the stock S21 ROM on an AT&T device. If not needed, what is the point of unlocking the bootloader, just for root?
Any clarity is appreciated.
You can use "patched ODIN" to do flash "U1" firmware, which removes bloatware.
Not sure about the bootloader, I think you're correct on that.
I flashed an Xfinity Mobile S21 (carrier unlocked by them) to U1 but so far the phone is refusing to use the proper carrier settings for VoWIFI (I have a VZW sim in it now). It worked for 1-2 weeks previously. Everything else seems to work properly including VoLTE.
I'll probably switch back to Xfnity Mobile to get VoWIFI working again.
Thanks for the response.

My understanding is that the international firmware is not compatible with the US phones because the US version uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, whereas the international phones use the Exynos chip. I think you're stick with single SIM, unfortunately.

the snapdragon version is only sold in the US solely?
"International and Korea models of the S21 utilize the Exynos system-on-chip, while the U.S., Canadian, Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong and Japanese models utilize the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888."
