i had the screen replaced on my s9+ because of the black crushing, the problem is solved now, however, there is another issue
the back glass doesn't seem to be glued perfectly to the phone
can i simply heat the glue with a hairdryer and press it together? or will that damage my device?
thanks!

Whats not perfectly and can you post a pic? Wouldn`t mess with it myself, i assume you have warranty so let the repair centre fix it.
I'd leave it as is and try and get them to sort it out. They are ruthless when it comes to repairs. They refused to repair my wifes S7 because the battery had expanded and cracked and popped the back off. Apparently according to them there was "signs of unauthorised entry" and they refused to replace it based on that, as well as there being water ingress (they have little stickers inside the phone that change colour when water comes into contact. Which they tell me was the reason for the battery expanding.
It got dropped in the bath, once, for a matter of seconds. I might be mistaken, but they're meant to be water resistant up to 5 feet for up to 30 minutes?
they refused to replace the screen, which was damaged (we didnt damage it it just refused to come on despite the rest of the phone working) and they told us that user caused impact has caused it, they wanted £240. I told them to send it back and I'd repair it myself. They sent it back with a new battery "for safety reasons" and then a new back. Which popped off in a matter of seconds. So after all that they solved nothing and saved me money.
thank you for your replies, but i've managed to fix it
i didn't want to bring it again to the repair shop, because it's far away from my home
what i did was i put the phone on a piece of cloth, screen down
then i took a hairdryer and started to heat up the back glass
after it had become too hot to touch, i folded the cloth over the phone and pressed it with my hands
i did this two times and now it's perfectly sealed without any gaps between the glass and the frame

You know that hot glass breaks very easy, so you had luck.
But now your phone may have compromised water resistance.
So samsung does replace the screen under warranty for black crush issues? By fixed, you mean when you watch a dark video with low brightness, the blacks won't become pixelated anymore? Please reply because i might want to send it back to them too.

Yeah, i don't think that's the case, i put my phone in a bowl filled with water and no bubbles were coming out, so i'm positive the water resistance is still there

I had to replace my screen as well because i'd dropped my device and it shattered completely. When i got it back from the repair center i noticed that the battery cover wasn't pressed to the frame all the way. I gave it back to them saying that there was dust trapped underneath the cover (i thought they would refuse my request if i had told them the real reason ) so my camera wouldn't take clear photos. In the end they replaced both of the back cameras and the battery cover looool :laugh: now it's all glued together as it should be

OK, If you're not insured then you need to look at this video by Erica Griffin. Yes, this is for the GS3 but it really shouldn't be any different for the GS4. Her Vid on YouTube shows you how to replace the screen with digitizer and using all of the other parts from your current phone. It's actually a good video to see just so you know how easy this stuff is to do. The screen w/digitizer seems to run around $200 which is way better then $500-600 to buy a new phone outright. Just remember, I'm just giving you a cheaper option to fix it if you don't have insurance.

They claim that as long as they can't prove that the cracks were from impact there shouldn't be a problem. I'm afraid they might screw me over. But i mean the glass is completely fine and my sides have small nicks from previous small drops. im gonna try to unroot and wipe tomorrpw after school
My screen blacked out a week ago but been too busy to deal with it. Display comes through MHL onto my TV display so wonder do I need all parts mentioned? There's no crack in my display, but to my surprise the "moisture detector" sticker is tainted red (the big visible one, as I understand there are multiple stickers -- can someone confirm this to be correct?).
I may just take a risk and request replacement over the phone. Once or more in the past, I've had a warranty period issue replaced with the warning "...if its determined to be your fault, we will charge you the full retail price" and I've sent them bootloader unlocked, watermarked phones and they let it slide. There truly was no submersion or even open case exposure to water, I'm not sure how sensitive this particular sensor is to humidity or moisture through an enclosed back.
Anybody else surprised to see their "watermark" turn red when they feel it should not have been? From past experience having phones replaced via phone support, I'd wager they take my rooted, broken-display phone and never charge me for it.........................I been with VZW a decade and a half and then Bell Atlantic Mobile and planned in about 220-250 consistently for nearly a decade.........I'm not saying VZW is prone to show courtesy for longevity, but this could be 3-4 such instances in the smartphone era of questionable watermarks of rooted and flashed-to-hell Blackberries including blatant cracks...............

So my girlfriend dropped her s3 the other night , the screen stays off ( does not light up ) but the touch sensors still work, we can answer calls on it by knowing the approximate location of the answer button, any thoughts on what the issue is ? I would prefer to repair this at home rather than make her pay money through a shop, thanks in advance

It is easy to replace broken GLASS.
but i think you will need to replace screen.
If you purchase assembly of glass, digitizer and screen it will be very easy to replace by yourself.

The glass isnt broken, perfectly clean with no scratches cracks or nicks , it just wont light up;
i had the same problem once, had to be sent to samsung (or wherever) by the shop where i bought it
buying a display and metal frame (obviously you can't buy them seperatly) plus glass would have cost almost the same
i wanted to find out whether the screen still works and it's a problem with my motherboard or vice versa so i unscrewed all bolts to access where the screen is plugged in on the motherboard but i didn't have another s3 to do the same and check it :silly:
still don't know how amoled displays work so it might be possible that whatever's responsible for backlighting the display broke

My thought was that the backlight broke or maybe the entire display system is disconnected , I might just have to take it apart for an exploratory operation,
before it went completely black there was a purple stain which grew until two thirds of my display were purple, the lower part where it started was black.
then i managed to open this samsung hardware debugging menu where you can check for dead pixels by letting your display light up in red, green and blue. there i found out that only blue and green pixels very working correctly in the upper third. the next day every purple pixel was dead.
so 2 months after this little stain appeared my whole display was in the same state as your girlfriend's seem to be now.
so i don't think this plug (it sits in place pretty tight) got loose and that's why it doesn't work anymore.
and my sister had exactly your problem. she dropped her s2 and it immediately went black
she hat to sent it in as well ...
good luck
if you find out what's the problem and want to share it, i am curious about it as well
If possible, check for loose connectors first.
I don't know about replacing the screen. The sheer amount of LOCA makes it a messy job.
Probably the display is dead. You'd need to replace the screen+glass.
There is no back light on an oled screen.

Firstly try to clean the screen without any stain or greases...
Try to tweak the sensitivity by changing the figure in /system/usr/idc/max1187x_touchscreen_0.idc (touch.filter.level = 5)...
Try to play around to get the best for ur device...
BTW white water marks due to water damage device??

This device has no water damage, that's what i wanted to say . Because of touch.filter.level: Sorry that i didn't sayed that i already tryed this whith best results @ 7, which is too high for a pen input, but the device doesn't go crazy that often.
Yesterday i've seen that you can fix this on Nexus 4 by reisolating a cable. If this is the case on ZU i'm gonna send it in for Warranty.

Better just send back to Sony...
I'm facing similar problems with my ZU =/
After I've tried to replace a protective skin for my display, the phone started to present ghost touching. I mean, a LOT of ghost touching. As my warranty expired a few months ago, I sent the phone to a private maintenance and now they want to replace the whole screen.
Do you think I'll have to replace the screen or maybe there's a way out of this? Here in Brazil, replacing the screen can be as expansive as buying a new phone (and I must confess that I'm tempted to forget about my Z Ultra and buy a Z2), so if I could fix this in some another way... well, that would be terrific.
Thanks in advance!

maybe this will help. Its the Fix i found for the Nexus 7
I started to have a lot of that Phantom touches after taking off my aftermarket screen protector. **** was so annoying. I still have the anti shatter film but don't want to mess with that crap so I installed another screen protector and everything is normal again.
It has been 1 month since installing the new screen protector and no ghost touches.

Well... I must confess that the idea of installing a new screen protector never occurred to me
I guess this could worth the shot, actually. Anyway, I've ordered a new display (got a really good price... way way cheaper than the official maintenance was charging), so if the new screen protector won't work out, I'll proceed to replace the whole display.
I got some dust particles on the inside of the lens which really annoys me. Due to this the camera does not focus correctly.
I really want to keep the phone waterproof so i am afraid to take it apart to clean it. Anyone experience similar issues or even swapped the backcover? Any recommendations for a backcover that ensures waterproof ability after swapping it?
thanks!

If you're getting dust under the lens you're obviously not water tight. I have ordered a replacement back and it cracked just picking it up. I don't know how fragile the original is but I'd be very careful while removing it. New seals can be bought for a few bucks.
not sure where this came from - the body is 100% waterproof...maybe "dust" particle is not the correct explanation
maybe is scratch dots from keys in you pocket?
it abit look like dust...
i mixed my pockets by mistake and left few dots maybe u did it lots of times.. ( i know the lens is plastic and not scratch resistance ) so i try to avoid keys in the same pocket

the scratches on the outside of the lens are no problem since the sony coated this and also polishing is working quite well. also i checked this several times with a magnifier.
i have uploaded a picture of the particle that causes the faulty autofocus. at the picture on the right you can see that this is on the inside of the lens.
since the phone is waterproof this is quite clearly a production fault but since i need the phone for my everyday work and life issuing a rma at sony is no option for me.
i was just wondering is someone else experienced anything similar or swapped the backcover and tested waterproof
You can test your waterproofness of your phone to do the pressure test in the service menu.
Go to dialer and dial *#*#service#*#*, go to service test and then pressure sensor. The value indicated on the screen should increase by pressing on your screen when the phone is still waterproof.

Hi
I have had the same kind of dust in my XZ5
I sent it back and they have exchanged with a new device.
Manufacturing issue... It could happen
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
since sony support couldn't offer me an adequate solution for their manufacturing error I decided to find a solution by myself.
primary most important was for me that i do not open the device.
I got rid of the particle by freezing the phone in the freezer for 20min and tapping on the lens. The particle fell off and now somewhere i do not care about )
if someone has a similar issue this might be also an alternative solution
Same problem here. It supprises me the presition in which this product was conceived with programmed obsolescence. Just after guaranty ended I began to notice blurs and dust.
I suppose gaskets became less performant as they get harder and they can't hold pressure changes anymore, like when you take a plane or enter a tunnel in a train.

I have the same translucent gray dust spots on my rear camera, and tapping and bumping with strenght makes them moving around. Of course this is programmed obsolescence.
Moreover they fill phones with glue and adhesives for "water-proofness" purposes... but after 2 years of daily use, noone sane minded would submerge any phone and if you have the need, you can't easily fix anything inside the phone or change battery if you aren't a technician , because you have to use professional tools to melt glue and move parts.
That's the current world of "water-proof", thin smartphones.
Something must change if we don't want to swim in oceans made of electronic rubbish in the near future.
I decided to change camera as it has lost its focus. But some of my local shop say that this Phone can be opened thorugh front ie display. There say 80% changes that display+touch might break. I don't have idea about.
Is it true ? Or my local shop are noobs.

How? I'm afraid that I breake the screen.
The screen, from info gathered on XDA & around the internet, is notoriously fragile. My X829 needs a new battery, so I bought a battery and a screen replacement kit just in case. I'll let you know how it goes, but I won't be able to do it until later this week, possibly not until the weekend.
Finally got the battery replaced. I DID break the screen though, even after applying heat and taking 20 minutes to slowly pry it off. So I'm glad I bought a replacement screen when I bought the battery. The new screen seems the same but (except the bezels are a different color ?). I'm definitely not a professional phone repair person, and in the past I have replaced already broken screens so I wasn't saving them for re-use.
If you've done a lot of phone repair and you have semi-professional equipment you might be fine, but my advice is to buy a screen too just in case.
I was afraid to i used some cheap repair kit from aliexpress, very big help is small glass swing and something like thin card what u pull between screen and frame. In any cases u can check YT there are planty of tutorials.
