Is there a way to update my G5 with the current EU OPEN ROM without having to root the handset?
The handset is currently branded for EE and I'd much rather have the stock unbranded software running by default... If it's not a major hassle to do it.
I upgraded it via lg up, I'm fairly sure i had ee f/w before but there was no obvious signs of branding.
I've got an EE branded G5 and have loaded Nougat Open EU Rom and have had no problems thus far (48 hours)!
How did you do it?

You flash a image with lg update look up flash stock ROM lg g5, you don't need to be rooted to do it, maybe you need the boot loader unlocked though

Did you lose EE things such as wifi calling though?
I had o2 branded one and getting NT code error on bot but if you're willing to dismiss it every boot you're free to flash any region for same model you want. Just use LG UP.

The OTA system is completely broken. EU phones have had 9 Nougat updates already. just get to marshmallow B11, then update to Nougat B09
A quick question from being new to the Axon 7, will this relock my bootloader, and or will I lose my ability to root? I'm on B32, but downgraded bootloader with toolkit, and am rooted with SuperSU. I am loving my Axon 7, having had it 1 month. Previous phone was a POS Sony xperia z4, and the Axon blows it away.

No, and never lock it. You'll end up with a brick if you ever lock the bootloader without getting the phone completely functional and 100% stock (recovery, system)
Thankyou, I never intend to or want it locked. So I assume all I'll have to do after the update is re-flash superSU?:good:

Again. The OTA system is completely broken.
Just take an official zip from the Download Center. It's there for a reason you know
Other than the security patches, seems like a very light update. Does anyone have it yet? Are the improvements mostly under the hood or is there anything actually noticable?
I'm mostly looking forward to Oreo and hopefully fixing the metadata Bluetooth problem.
Nothing noticeable. Updated security patch to December.
As someone that uses auto night light. It is broken now. It is no longer automatic at least with boot password. Have not tried without yet.
If i'm rooted and bootloader unlocked what will happen if I accept the update?

I installed it. Turned GPS on high accuracy. Stock auto night light started work. To confirm I uninstalled C.F. Lumen and it is still working. TBH I forgot all about C.F. Lumen as I run it on my tablet.

FF's database was down, it's back up now.
My firmware is the bla-L29 8.0.0.126 and I'm still with the March security patch.
To update, pay the Funkhuawei or wait for the update to arrive?

Internal storage, but you'd need to update TWRP to this one which has decryption support: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/development/huawei-mate-10-pro-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769904

I'm using this one. Was the first one with an BLA-L09 device. If I place it on the internal storage, won't it be deleted, because I've to wipe all partitions? Sry for so much questions, I only won't brick my phone. Now a lot about this stuff, but each phone is unique and has its own special things to look for.

You don't need to Wipe anything. Internal sd is mounted in /data which is not wiped.
Well, it's either that or use HWOTA to update.
Or wait for firmware to be approved

It's approved for my device. But it should be blocked on the device or I'm wrong. On my last devices, I wasn't able to update the original firmware from the system itself, because TWRP and Magisk were installed.

Yeah, you'd have to restore stock Recovery, and OTA might install (it checksums partitions and if they don't match the update fails)
You could still use Firmware finder to install FullOTA.

As of June Huawei started using https so FF can't send it to System Update. You would have to use HWOTA or TWRP with HuRUpdater.
Thanks ante0
Does that mean I should wait for the official updates from Huawei instead? And does using HWOTA require root?

HWOTA requires unlocked bootloader, same as TWRP.
You could wait, AL usually get updates fast
And FW shown on FF can be beta and test too, so just because a new fw appeared doesn't mean it will be pushed to devices eventually.
