I was wondering how does the actual gps positioning happen in Android, is it done by the OS or by the apps themselves?
Is it possible to do the positioning fix within an app?
The reason I ask is because I'm working on a custom gps positioning algorithm as part of my research and it would be great and easy if I could test it on the phone as I work on it.

I used to love the real-time updating feature that used to be present in Latitude until a few months ago, when it was removed.
Have any of you found a good substitute?
The functionality I'm looking for is the ability for me to request real-time updates from another phone.
I know I can provide real-time updates from apps like Glympse or backtitude or latify. I instead want to initiate the request from my phone and receive the updates from another phone.

I have BIP and I'm happy with it functionality in general.
The problem is that it has not compatibility with the most popular fitness apps. I'm premium user of Endomondo, but i checked also Stavra, Runtastic....
Do you know some app with can work with the smart watch? Or some easy way to get more of it with endomondo?

my app will be used by multiple users, where app will track users location in real time.
I want to map everyone's location on single map to show who else is nearby. Currently i'm thinking of getting users location and saving in DB and updating every minute or so
