Extract modem.bin file from vs996 - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Anyway to extract the modem.bin file from vs996, and flash it on my converted us998?

Possibly extracted from the LGUP dump?
As far as flashing it while keeping other things as US998, I don't know.

I would assume you could just copy the build.prop from the VS996 phone's rom and just overwrite the US998's build.prop, then change the permissions to rw,r,r. It's worked for me on Euro roms to get Sprint's LTE bands back.

It may be possible but why do you want to do so? The rest of the fw will still be us998 and as it is all network/radio functions should work properly..
You can find the modems, etc. in the backup dump you made in LG UP during the frankenprocess (if you made one) and then just repackage as a twrp installable.

Just in case OP or anyone else needs them, attached is VS996 modem.bin and a copy of KDZ to BIN Extraction tool for Windows PC.
Modem.bin:

KDZ2BIN:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ixLftU7n7XR4a71zp3pL2qDYIN60BrxT/view?usp=drivesdk
There's a different kdz tool that I like a lot more than this one but I can't link it until I get home. Will update later.

I started with a ls998 which is Sprint. So no vs996 dump. I have not great reception on my phone on vzw here in NY. I was thinking maybe the vzw modem would help.
Now hopefully I don't brick it.

Did it work? Might be helpful in getting h930 or whatever ROMs to work with us998 on vzw.

So did you try the modems or the build.prop?
I'm thinking about it for my US998 on Verizon.
I have a VS996 Stock Oreo dump. How do I get build.prop out of it?
Thanks.

I tried editing the build.prop and wound up with com.android.phone FC's. Maybe because I'm running a theme. Never flashed the modem, worried I will brick it. The build.prop from the stock Oreo dump will be in the system folder.

Wondering if I could just flash the modem.bin file using lgup. I'm lost when it comes to LG.

I finally replaced the US998 build.prop with the VS996 build.prop. (tried it once before, but I just realized I had never fixed the file permissions to 0644 rw-,r--,r--)
I get the same "contacts has stopped" error. Solved that with a different dialer app.
Still getting the "Unfortunately, Hidden Menu has stopped" error once on boot. No idea what that is about.
Everything else seems to work. Phone reports as VS996.
Hoping somebody can get Verizon's voicemail app to work.
Anybody have the .apk?

How?? I want to flash the vz modem.bin

https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/making-modem-bin-flashables-twrp-t3794435

You just need the modem.bin for Verizon I would think the process to flash modem would be the same
The readmetxt. Has the instructions
Make sure you thank @JWnSC

I never had to do this. I just activated the bands from the hidden menu via a shortcut / secret dialer code app.

Well if this works then it's way easier
I'll try it when I flash back to this rom

I flashed the modem.bin. I had my phone working fine, just was hoping for better service on vzw. I felt my samsung was much better in areas. I will see if it helps, or lg just has crap radios
EDIT>>>> I now only can get lte only, or cdma only. It doesn't switch automatically. Anyone have a flashable modem for the us variant? I think the issue is there are more than one modem.bin files
OK< I extracted the modem.bin from the kdz from the us fw. I have lte and cdma back
New edit....I extracted the modem.bin from latest vs996 kdz. Flashed it, everything is working as it should. The baseband did change, so I'm hoping for better service on vzw.

Root idea ATT G5

Has anyone tried using send_command to flash the LAF partition to BOOT (for backup sakes.. Need to be able to revert), after backing up to sdcard obviously, then flashing TMOBILE LAF to LAF partition. Rebooting the device again to download, now fastboot and oem unlocking? I was able to get this working on my old G3, I just got stuck in fastboot due to lg not having an official unlock tool (now available). From there TWRP could be flashed, and then root! After flashing the stock boot of course!!
Seriously!? Nobody responded!???? Maybe post this in the G5 Q&A????

No, and honestly I don't think there will be. AT&T has locked this device down, and I mean locked it down HARD. If AT&T will release a tot or kdz then maybe we could get root, as someone could just make a pre-rooted system of the tot or kdz (right, guys?) but until (or if) they release it, I don't think there will be root. I would be willing to test for some things if I knew I could just flash back to stock if things go wrong but right now I can't, so I'm not willing to test for anything as I don't have the money to just go purchase another device if this one bricks.

You are kind of on the right path, but there is no way to just "flash" the t-mobile LAF partition. There are too many security variables that you need to find a work-around for, along with trying to find a way to get it onto your device.
Another thing is that THE SEND_COMMAND DOES NOT WORK ON THE G5. This has been talked about on many other threads, and it doesn't work.

Well the biggest issue is on top of AT&T locking the device down, they aren't releasing a kdz or tot file.

Yea that's what I was thinking. How can they be the only carrier that doesn't have to release the FW? They do the same thing on the AT&T S7 and S7E. Can they be sued for that?

You could instead download RS98811c_00_ARB01.kdz from the site (it's not the BPT version) and go through two updates to get to Nougat.

Yeah, I posted that. It was an OTA file. I'm not sure how you could use it in LGUP, but if I had to guess, it would be through the upgrade/update option. I would assume one would also have to already be on 11d.

Yeah, until LG updates their servers with the 21a version, it won't show on website no matter what IMEI from an RS988. Either have to wait for LG to update website or someone to post correct kdz file to use.

I think the only way to get the kdz would be if you were on the 11d and upgraded through the lg computer software

I tried tonight, and the LG UP program can't read .bin files. I even tried to rename it as a .zip just to see what would happen, and still can't read it.
So a week later and LG hasn't posted the 21a link yet on their check esn page. I wonder how long this will take. If the KDZ isn't up in a couple weeks, I guess I'll have to contact LG and see about sending my phone in. Maybe they have a way to get it back to 11c or 11d so that the 21a will download and install.

WiFi calling on T-Mobile Note-8 using Straight Talk (AT&T)

Hello
I'm using a T-Mobile Note-8 that has been unlocked (from T-Mobile) and currently have a Straight Talk (AT&T) service.
Reason for buying the T-Mobile version:
1. Easy unlock.
2. Easy access to hotspot.
Question:
How do I get WiFi calling enabled on this? I'm currently on the latest Oreo CRC2 build...
Searched around but NOT much information that I could find for my specific scenario.
Thanks
Max
Wow... Looks like the T-Mobile Note-8 forum is completely dead.
So there's NO one who is using this device on Straight Talk?

I use straight talk with att byop sim. My model is U1 and I have been looking for an answer for months also. I have tried all the userdata files, CSCs, shortcut tricks, everything I can find but nothing works. Do your service mode numbers work on your phone? Everytime I dial *#*#ANYCODE#* I get an error "Connecttion problem or invalid MMI code"

Thanks bro. I'm on oreo. And also another issue is I think straight talk doesn't technically support the features. I'm running CRC1 on my U1. I just downloaded the ATT CRC2 userdata file and was gonna flash that but also was actually gonna ask if you (or if you know anyone who may have) happen to have the CRC2 ATT CP file uploaded anywhere so I didn't have to download the whole stock firmware.

Ok. Sounds good. Thanks for the tip. Do you think the modem is worth the download? I know it's all circumstantial but just curious what route you would take

I wanted to do the same thing as well.. Flash with AT&T CRC2, but then the hot spot feature goes away.
At this point, I want the hot spot more than WiFi calling.. So kind of giving up on this

The modem may or may not improve connectivity...the only way is to try both

Anybody have full stock AT&T LG V30?

Anybody have full stock AT&T LG V30?
I’m trying to get full stock dump from LGUP.
I can’t find full factory restore rom anywhere.

Do you mean a dump from H931? I actually do have that - I think it was a Nougat level OS, though. It's what I had on the phone before I Frankensteined it to VS996.
I also seem to have an H931 20H flashable zip.

Do you have full stock 20H?
I only found H93120d.rar dump.

I believe the 20H was downloaded from here, so it's likely a TWRP update, not something you can do from LGUP. The dump was from LGUP, so you could (theoretically) reflash that, but I don't know how that works. Like I said, I took the dump before frankensteining it (just in case)... but I never needed it.
Which dump u have? 20D?

I don't know exactly... I think it was Nougat, but I don't remember. If there's a way for me to find out from the dump, I'm happy to look... just tell me what I'm looking for?

There's no way to know. I'd have to flash it to see. Post it if you can. Thanks

Ok. Any suggestions on where to post it? Happy to do it, I just don't have a place I normally use...
EDIT: I use Firefox and noticed there is Firefox Send there, if that helps... (never used it, but can work with you to figure it out).

You can upload it to Google Drive. It gives you 15gb free.

PM sent, let me know when you're done downloading it so I can remove it.
If you figure out what version it is, and/or how to flash it, please do let me know... I'm curious. Thanks!

Thanks. Going to get ATT service and see if I can get full OTA now. Gotta try to make full stock restore with that.

20d would still be Oreo, just not as recent.

Nougat would be 10-something (10a - 10d or so), whatever you had on the phone before you Frankenstein'ed.

Yeah, I just don't remember what it was before Frankensteining... I thought I took a screenshot, but I can't seem to find it now. Probably deleted it since I don't need it any longer (because my conversion to VS996 was fine and successful).
